Walmart Ends Healthcare Benefits For Workers Under 30 Hours
Under the title (only-a-PR-person-could-make-up) "Providing Quality Benefits for Our Associates," Walmart - who employs 1.3 million people in America, has changed its eligibility standards for healthcare benefits. "Like every company," they explain "Walmart faces rising healthcare costs," and so are ending benefits for associates who work less than 30 hours a week.
In the U.S., the 1.3 million people who work at our stores, clubs and distribution centers are vital to a great experience for the 140 million customers shopping with us each week. We’re in business because our associates bring us their unique skills and talents – and so we do our absolute best to offer all the benefits that come with a great job, particularly affordable health insurance.
Anyone who has been following the news for the last several years knows that health care is a major topic of debate. From doctors’ visits and prescriptions to insurance premiums, health care costs have increased for all of us – individuals and the companies that insure them – each year. Knowing this, Walmart continues to work with health care providers and professionals, using our size and influence to negotiate the best rates and options for our associates.
Like every company, Walmart continues to face rising health care costs. This year, the expenses were significant and led us to make some tough decisions as we begin our annual enrollment. As a result, today we announced that our associates will see an increase in premiums for 2015. For example, our most popular and lowest cost associate-only plan will increase by $3.50 to $21.90 per pay period – still half the average premium other retail employees pay.
We’re also changing eligibility for some part-time associates. We will continue to provide affordable health care to all eligible associates, including part-time, who work more than 30 hours. However, similar to other retailers like Target, Home Depot, Walgreens and Trader Joe’s, we will no longer be providing health benefits to part-time associates who work less than 30 hours. This will impact about 2% of our total U.S. workforce. We will be working with a specialist, HealthCompare, to personally guide our associates through the process of finding the right, affordable health care.
We are proud of the health care plans we offer, which are among the best in the retail industry, as well as the new benefits we’ve introduced over the past two years for our associates. This includes a vision plan that launched this year and our innovative Centers of Excellence program that began in 2013 that covers select spine and heart procedures at no cost to our associates. We expanded Centers of Excellence this year to include knee and hip replacement surgeries and, for 2015, we’re excited to be adding breast, lung and colorectal cancer care at the Mayo Clinic.
We don’t make these decisions lightly, and the fact remains that our plans exceed those of our peers in the retail industry. Our premiums remain well below the industry average compiled by expert Aon Hewitt. We also continue to pay the majority of health care costs for associates covered under our medical plans. For example, on average we cover more than 60% of our associates’ total health care costs and more than 75% of their premium costs. In contrast, the retail industry pays, on average, about 54% of total health care costs and 68% of employee premiums.
All of our eligible associates – both full and part-time – will continue to benefit from our health care options that include no lifetime maximum, preventative care covered at 100%, and $250 up to $1,000 to help pay for medical expenses. We believe these options are among the best in the retail industry.
As our associates continue to work hard for our customers, we will continue working hard to keep their benefits as affordable as possible, enhance the quality of health care they receive and make the cost more transparent, which will benefit everyone.

We suspect the refrain from the American taxpayer will go something like "thanks Obamacare, you're welcome Walmart."

Thanks Obama(care). Heck of a job, Baracky...
Next on the chopping block, "associates who work less than 50 hours a week".
Obozocare FTMFW!
"If you like your..."
Eh, screw it...it's not even funny anymore.
700% increase in premiums for those who actually dont get cancelled all together. Gotta luv the Affordable Care Act !
While I am no fan of Obamacare I find the timing of this announcement to be politically sensitive....and I like it!
I'm actually surprised Walmart ever did provide health insurance to its part-time employees...
Gee, can't GhettoMart just import healthcare from China with big smiley-face savings for all our entitled 'Mericans???
Cloward Piven at Work with Your Tax Dollars
Shit's all pre-planned
Nobody is this fucking stoopid
***Oh, and by the way, "folks"...don't forget this is all being done by design. Wipe out private healthcare and force the sheeple onto the government system which will eventually become single payer from the gubment.
It was meant to do this...it was meant to bankrupt us and swing all control over the people by the government via "healthcare".
Forced Obola vaccinations will be FREE. And if you don't take your shots you will lose your jobs. I ain't kiddin'...it's all going to happen eventually.
Step 1: eliminate benefits for all workers under 30 hours
Step 2: get all workers under 30 hours
Step 3: PROFIT
Wal-Mart can cancel all medical insurance policies, hire their own in-house doctors, and require their employees to use them. It might save them some money and when they want to terminate any of their employees, they can send them to one of their doctors. Dr. Kevorkian.
What % of WalMart employees do you think voted for obama.....TWICE ?????
"Dear Valued Employee ..." is how the letter begins.
90+% ... some several times.
very true knuckles, but i am getting too old and dont want to wait 10 more years for the final act.
Then you're a moron.
Next week Barry will claim victory as 1.3 million new sign ups occurred. ...
NO SUEETOW
not to mention the countless millions of illegal invaders that will be automatically signed up and registered as a "D".
And hey....now that our gubment has imported the fucking Obala virus well gee, sky's the limit on how many freaked out sheep will sign up to be saved by their masters.
Is obesity considered an existing condition?
The danger of reading without comprehension. How do you get 700%?
I read ... "For example, our most popular and lowest cost associate-only plan will increase by $3.50 to $21.90 per pay period..."
That means the old rate was 18.40
I believe he's referring to those who get dumped into Deathcare.
I stand corrected. Read that wrong. My mind read from $3.50 to $21.90 .... not by $3.50
It happens to us all... ;-)
Health care is the number one killer in the world. I'm always amazed by these people living to be 112 without having ever visited a doctor.
So true, self care and natural medicine will become the trend for those with a brain.
The rest, "sick care."
Yes its still funny... Ill never forget for the rest of my life the people crying in Chicago at Obamas virctory event in 2008, saying to the news camera that he will change the world and save all the poor people that have been neglected for so long....
Elections have consequences and one day adults will have to start being adults again.
no worries, .gov is rolling out Ebola-Care (tm) just in time...
or is it Ebola-Scare?
for now, more scare than anything else. whether tptb can make into something more than that, remains to be seen. great distraction from the pending invasion of Syria in any event.
Yes. Yes, it is.
Sorry man, ACA, page 87,812 section 666 clearly states Ebola is not covered
Oh, but it is! A little further down it states you will get (no choice) a vaccination which will contain an RFID chip compliments of Bill Gates.
My borg nano-probes would reject the implant
dang...not covered. But it's definitely patented!
https://www.google.com/patents/CA2741523A1?cl=en
http://www.naturalnews.com/046290_Ebola_patent_vaccines_profit_motive.html
gee...hmmm...now I wonder why that could be, huh??? Why, oh, why would the gubment want to patent a massivley deadly disease? Unless they actually created it and its derivatives for some nefarious reasons.
Nah....the government surely would come up with something as sick as twisted at that to use again the people, right??? ;-)
"Why, oh, why would the gubment want to patent a massivley deadly disease? "
To engineer it to target specific genetic patterns?
well, my qeustion was rhetorical and sarcastic, but yeah...that's one reason I wouldn't doubt those scumbags have worked on. I'm sure they've done it with many others like HIV, syphalis, Limes disease, etc.
"To engineer it to target specific genetic patterns?"
Weren't the Israelies working on that type of project a generation ago? Must have succeeded by now!
...America's all time biggest Scandal...election of a Non American to the Presidency.
Literally..."on the chopping block" that is...
Wal Mart is an EBT/WIC store. I would bet food stamps are over 50% of their business now. Let em eat cake with GMO and corn syrup in it.
Yeah, doesn't surprise me. Heard tell there were lines of people shopping at 1130pm on the 30th waiting for it to become 12am on the 1st so their EBTs would be reloaded. I live in CA, noticed all the fast food places now have signs that they accept EBT. 'Cos that's totally good for them. What a gift to fast food, which was otherwise heading down the toilet w/the diminished spending. Forward...over a cliff.
Compassion, justice, mercy, love, the values of all religions and humanity in action. Take 1 full time job w health care and turn it into 3 part time jobs w no benefits and no unemployment benefits is an example of our highest values and success story.
Prez Sambo Obola's response, "We Got This".
Would you please stop using words that generate sympathy for the scumbag named Obama? All you're doing is supporting him, while smearing ZH.
Racist barbs serve no one but those who play the race-card.
Surely you can understand this?
Precisely, he's a useless piece of shit. The colour of his skin has no bearing on that.
The colour of his skin was one, but not the only, of his attributes that determined his selection by The Elites for his position as The Mouthpiece and Ceremonial Chief Livestock Herder.
It was NOT coincidental.
Make no mistake - I will combine the elements of white-skin privilege with the elements of black-skin privilege, to create a privilge that is more powerful than both! Bwahaaahaaaahhaaaaa!
30 hrs. of minimum wager work, Obamacare, an EBT card, and a 12-year car note is the New American Dream.
Don't forget about monthly rent. Renting is the "new normal" dream. I'm sure Sambo will implement "RENT CONTROL" as well, but just for the po fokes.
The talk of 'rent control' at more and more city councils may be one reason the Wall Street Landlord Barons are not buying en mass anymore.
Make that 29 hours. Your part-time employer will make sure you don't accidently hit the 30 hour limit.
Like every company, Walmart continues to face rising health care costs.
WTF, I thought OBummercare was supposed to rein in rising costs. no??
ACA hasn't seen the number of healthy young people as expected (who would have helped spread the costs) ... therefore, premiums have to rise for everyone else.
When a normal person is young they don't give as shit about health insurance because in their eyes they are immortal. That and they have a lot of iCrap to buy.
It's really a no-brainer. The ACA is working out EXACTLY as it was planned. Fucking up a Fucked up system even more.
EVERY piece of legislation passed can be understood, as to it's intent, simply by renaming it the opposite.
Examples; Unaffordable Care Act,
Unpatriotic Act/Treason Act Etc..
Federal Reserve Act=Private Bankster Act
Or they dont have $300 a month to pay for it. You know there's food and stuff like that to buy.
Oops, things didn't go according to plan? Plus young people don't have the friggin' income to pay for government Deathcare.
Government, being nothing more than a criminal syndicate of theft and violence, always accomplishes the opposite of the stated goal. Always.
An American, not US subject.
The 16th. amendment is the only exception to the Constitution's prohibition on non apportioned direct taxes. The 9th. and 10th. retain all powers not expressly given to the federal government for the states and people. Forced healthcare is not a power of the federal government and there is no amendment allowing a direct tax of healthcare. Ipso facto, Obamacare is Unconstitutional and null and void.

If I read this correctly, it will be 26,000 out of 1,300,000 workers.
Snowflake before the snowball, I reckon.
Apparently that's the case. Really not horrible unless you are one of the 26,000 shoved into unaffordable care act. On the other hand, I imagine a decent percentage of those are already on Medicare.
The REALLY funny part of it is that 25,999 most-likely voted for it.
Its so true.... They deserve it.
Pres Barrack Hussein claims if all America were muslim, there would be no need for a healthcare system as you must trust your life and health in Alla! Think of all the $$$ saved.
HusseinCare covers 80% of medical costs for all suicide bombers. Local street sweepers must pick up the remaining 20%. Great plan.
Next uo, allow FSA members to pay for healthcare with EBT cards, then raise the monthly EBT allotment to $10,000 per month so that things will be "fair".
10,000 a month? Damn, bitchez....where does I signs up fo dat!!???
can I buy big stacks of sweet, silvery bullion with that EBT? ;-)
All you have to do is change your status from US citizen to "economic amnesty"... then the US's world will be your oyster. I'm looking into this as we speak as it's beome clear that just being a US citizen makes you a victim of our government.
Don't forget the power wash puke cleaners!
Walmart is reading the writing on the wall, and it says eeeeeeebooooollllllaaaaaaaaa...
Seriously though, when did Walmart ever insure its part time workers? I thought we did that through Medicaid, just like we feed their employees with EBT and house them with Section 8.
Save Money (on employee benefits). Live Better (on your bonus, corporate honchos, that was made possible by saving money on employee benefits since our profit margins are razor thin). Walmart.
No worries, I just heard from the WH spokesperson that most of these 30k employees will now look for jobs at Starbucks in an effort to secure healthcare on the Sbux health plan.
Cool
El Presidente recently assured everybody that regardless of what people are saying, Zerocare is working perfectly fine...... and he's right. We will all be on .gov healthcare before this is done.
Welcome to Obamacare.
I refuse to shop at Wal-Mart because of their community-destroying business model. That they're reducing benefits for their employees is not particularly interesting in view of the fact that this company eliminates small businesses everywhere they go.
Communities don't have to accept them. Problem is they offer what the community needs/wants. Sorry. Otherwise, they'd be out of business. Citizens can't afford "mom and pop" prices nor can mom and pop offer the inventory and selection. That's simply reality. Glad you have plenty of disposable income to pay high prices at specialty stores.
I don't shop at Walmart because I simply don't care to. Target, yep.
Right on, but tgt gave me the forced new cc aggravation.
...company eliminates small businesses everywhere they go
That made me laugh. I pictured Sam Walton going around with a huge death-ray gun, shooting at Mom-n-Pop businesses and laughing maniacally as each went up in flames.
Target of all places is a gun free zone...go figure
So I say F**K Them!
That falls under the category of 'truth-in-advertising'.
Lots of misrepresentations there.
First, communities that try to fight the Wal-Mart's propaganda machine usually lose, as the public school educated masses think 5 seconds ahead of themselves, and give in to the low-prices advertisements.
What they (and, apparently, you) don't realize that their costs GO UP in unanticipated ways. Like when the old main street, which used to be a bustling civic center and meeting place, suddenly is all boarded up, and then graffiti, hookers, and drug peddlers start appearing, so now you need to hire more cops to police an area that didn't require policing anymore, resulting in increases in your sales and property taxes. Cha-ching! Then the former store-owners, your neighbors, can't pay the notes on their homes because Wally World ran them out of business, and the bank forecloses on their home right next door to yours, thereby causing your property value to decline. Cha-ching! And let's not forget about the local farmers who used to sell their wares to the public but now can't compete with Wal-Mart's ultra low prices, and so have to take their (fresh) produce miles away to sell to some wholesaler thereby forcing you to buy bland produce from Mexico (but if you're lucky, a farmer's market will spring up). Ba-da-bing!
Far better to pay that extra 5 cents for the trinkets you want at the mom-and-pop than to sell your community up shit creek without a paddle in a barbed-wire canoe by shopping at Wal-Mart.
Hey now, wait a minute, our walmart has pictures of people and community service contibutions to make up for that nonsense. Balloons and sparkles too! Value!
I spent some time in the Mississippi Delta country. Every little town had a rich old white doctor, dentist, lawyer and grocer. They ran the place with an iron hand. The good old boy system in place for generations. Their kids went to college, the others went to truck driving school, the army or welfare.
Prices were astronomical, service sucked. Sanitary conditions were deplorable. Competition was not allowed. I watched the local dentist close shop for one month a year and take his family to Africa on safari. Probably a 50 grand vacation in a place where his staff made minimum wage. Complain and you got fired - and nobody would hire you because they were afraid of pissing off the guy that fired you.
I watched as one little town (that is, the five guys that ran it) fought WalMart tooth and nail. WalMart ended up locating just outside of town and they destroyed the stranglehold the old white powerbrokers had on the place.
There are two sides to every story.
Sometimes Mom and Pop deserve to bite the dust. Hard.
hey meat, see any diff today, ask corzine if he gives a shit what you think.
Evil white men. Wow, that's the best you got?
I'd prefer the local mafia (even if that were a fair comparison, and it's not) to the Bentonville mafia. At least the local successful hardworking businessmen, er, sorry, old white powerbrokers will recycle their wealth in their own communities rather than export all their wealth out of the county.
I refuse to believe your hyperbolic rhetoric about poor service and deplorable sanitary conditions in this (probably fictional) town you claim to have "watched." (What kind of binoculars did you watch through?) I live in a rural Wal-mart free area in the Ozarks myself; and while some prices are a bit higher, they're not astronomically so, and the friendly service at the few mom-and-pops is good - charming even.
Cry me a river about the fact that there are poor people.
Wal-mart is a destructive force that should not be allowed into any town worth its salt. It's unfortunate that their propaganda machine is so compelling to the lesser educated people who seem to always vote in Wal-Mart's favor in referenda.
My health care insurance is over $900 a month, with a $5000 deductible for a healthy family. So, cry me a fucking river. Before Obama and his community organizer liberal fucks got involved I paid $500/ mo. with a $1000 deductible. Some of you fuckers voted for this prick. Unbelievable. Did you really think this guy could give you everything free. There is no free lunch in economics. Someone always has to pay. It's not complicated.
Well now, we can't have the old fuckers and cancer patients paying for their own pre-existing conditions, now can we? Nor can we turn them down for insurance, because no fair! This one clause in the law is responsible for most of the increase to your deductibles and premiums. Next time you see a decrepit old git tottering by on their walker or trundling along on their mobility scooter, thank them for your unhealthy paycheck.
If they wanted to do something about people with pre-existing conditions they should have just expanded medicare instead of fucking the whole middle class.
That is such a spot-on comment. The health insurance problems in America could have been addressed much more simply. That wasn't the goal obviously. It was their criminal plan to implement a one-payer system by destroying the existing one. Just a stepping stone. If Hillary or whatever marxist the Demonrats put up in 2016 gets in, they will finish the job. Don't know if the other party has the guts to reverse this existing mess but they won't push for the one-payer system.
Several good points/comments.
I now have a New Plan, thanks to the ACA, it's the
"Save the Last Bullet for Yourself Plan" but be aware, I have Lots & Lots of bullets!
Expanding Medicare IS "fucking the whole middle class". DUH!
Who the fuck do you think supports Medicare? Do you fucking work? If so, have you ever looked at your wage and deduction advice? See the Medicare tax?
Do you, in your wildest fucking dreams, believe that the elites or the unemployed pay for Medicare?
Wow!
Calm down before you hurt something. They were going to do something regardless and expanding medicare would have been the least painful option. Instead they put their hope into the youth of this country who we all know is the least reliable of all citizens, and now we all have even worse insurance wih double or even triple the cost with a higher deductable than we otherwise would have had.
Hurt what? Are you claiming that medicare is NOT supported by the middle class?
Are you one of the posters here that claim that since the government has already stolen (borrowed is the same as stolen?) the SS trust fund, it should be considered bankrupt?
Why wouldn't a single pay system be better? Or a Swiss type of system? At least you might get a few people that don't contribute to medicare to pay some of the costs.
Kill them all (they're just useless eaters) and let the Lord sort them out. It's becoming very clear why TPTB want (and need) to get rid of the firearms in the possession of the proles.
Would be interesting to see what you'd be posting if your mom, or your spouse got kicked off or wasn't allowed insurance because they had a preexisting condition like cancer.
Ummmm... Did it ever occur to anyone that the large corporations were behind this so they could shift the health care bill to the America tax paying public???
Bingo.... We have a winner
"Some of you fuckers voted for this prick. Unbelievable."
Some of you fuckers voted for the other prick, Romney. Also unbelievable. Mitt had a similar plan to enrich his gang of thieves.
Make no mistake. Obamacare (or Romney Care if it had been the "winner") is making certain groups of Rich White Zioligarchs a hell of a lot of money at the expense of the American middle class.
Why do you stupid motherfuckers keep voting for these criminal assholes and their platforms of enslavement?
"We have met the enemy and he is us." -- Pogo
I voted for Romney. I was a stupid motherfucker. Thanks ZH for setting me straight.
You're welcome.
You are to be congratulated for realizing that, like other addictions, the first step in recovery is realizing that you are addicted to voting and believing the lies that are continuously drilled into you by the media.
I did as well.. I know the D vs R is a stupid paradigm and its fake. But what else could you do? I know I am gonna catch flac but if you didnt vote your just as responsible. Yes, romney would have been bad but not this bad....
What else could you do!?! Boycott the election!
A boycott is a vote for something else.
How do you know Romney wouldn't have been as bad? Because he's so successful at cheating on his taxes?
"For example, our most popular and lowest cost associate-only plan will increase by $3.50 to $21.90 per pay period –"
imo, the real story from release
assuming pay period every 2 weeks ... $478/yr ... for people stretching to make ends meet as is.
It isn't the premium that really matters.
If an employer offers minimum wage workers a plan for under $50 premium per month, you can bet that the deductible is too high for that employee to actually set foot in a doctor's office.
Only a basic preventative exam is usually covered. The second you actually get sick or need an emergency room, you are on the hook for $5000 deductible and a percentage of everything above that.
Minimum wage earners might as well not have health insurance at all -- if you can't afford the deductible, then you never get to the point where the insurance company pays in. You stay at home, sick, only now you have $50 less per month for groceries.
And "low income" isn't off the hook at a lot of hospitals. Have a friend who made $18K per year last year -- hospital said she didn't qualify for low income payment plans because her income was too high and she didn't have a child. $18K per year -- too high? So your option is to pay up, or go into collections. The corporate healthcare system wins: the health insurance plan leaves the patient to pay up first, knowing that the patient will not be able to afford it, so won't seek care and require insurance payout. And in instances where they have no choice but to seek care, the insurance company throws a payment at the hospital, and the hospital inflates the prices of services, so the patient still gets a bill they can't pay.
Emergency room visits: they take your blood pressure and temperature and throw a prescription at you -- all for the low price of $1500+ And big pharma fills the prescription for medication that makes you chronically ill for an extended period of time, with side effects that send you right back into the hospital.
You make some great points Austri however health insurance was originally designed to cover the high costs of a health catastrophe not routine health care. Routine health care can be covered by eating a healthy diet and physical exercise. If you have to go to the doctor for a sinus infection it shouldn't be covered....I agree that is also shouldn't be so damn expensive - Catch 22 right?
If you don't change the oil on your car and your engine seizes up who pays for the $5000 overhaul?
Just a little more torture along with all the other price increases in this "deflationary" environment. What is actually deflating in price these days? Ipods?
Did anyone expect dif-f-f-f-erent with the Affordable Care Act?
This is how you spell ObamaCare....M E D I C A I D. Because WalMart needs Corporate welfare.
Shieet, sh'all! I gots insurance! hell yeah, I jus' signed up with d' medicaid bitches!
Unfunded mandates, er, liabilities.
Dayam! I don' feel so goot! I gots a fevah, an' dizareah, an' dayam! I'm bleedin' out my daym eyeballs! Honey! Wheres my dayam Medicabalaid cart? I GOTS t' git t' da dayam Emerrgency Room!
And if you are one of the fortunate few who still have a house and suddenly have to go on Medicaid, you pay back all your "benefits" to the state via your home equity.
Wallmart is broke? Couldn't tell by their stock price.
Ahh, you're confused my friend let me help you out. The stock price is for the insiders and the amount of SNAP you can qualify for is for the workers.
"we will no longer be providing health benefits to part-time associates who work less than 30 hours."
unsaid: we will be reducing all part-timers schedules to less than 30 hours(29.5) immediately if not sooner.
Next up full timers...or at least those that remain.
Nice PR move WMT, right up there with this one.
It will remain only as a perk for salaried employees.
... and now comes the left (how ironic) hook of rising minimum wages ...
Part II (1Q15)
Walmart rebalances its workforce: 40% of employess now work less than 30 Hours/week.
"K-Mart Walmart sucks." - Raymond of Rain Man
People who will be most exposed to ebola.. I sense a conspiracy.
ebola can now be spread by farting...
Ebola can be spread by fast food restaurants.
obama and his free shit army getting bigger
This is all apart of the master liberal agenda to 'force' the government to provide healthcare to these partially displaced workers.
Biggest fucking sham in US history.
Yesh...so let's be mad at those fuckers working part time who get shafted when Wal Mart is who benefits from Obamacare. HA HA fucking HA.
Again - has it occurred to anyone that the giant corporations were FOR Obamacare because it puts the burden of paying for healthcare on the middle class taxpayer?
You really think every corporation is marginalizing it's health care by making part time workers? The majority of the big publically traded companies have full-time employees and are having difficulty passing through health care costs.
Always always always place the burden of blame on the policies government passes.
MSM will be fucking outraged. "Pure Greed" it will be labelled. "Equal access to to healthcare" will be the hot-button word.
This is what really enrages me about the MSM (aside from the bunghole licking of the current administration and the deliberate underreporting of topics deemed not to be on the approved list, that is). Health insurance does not equal healthcare. How many of our nation's doctors are flat-out refusing to see Obamacare patients? How many people are finding out after they get a five-figure bill that the procedure they had wasn't covered by their bronze plan with $6000 in premiums and a $10000 deductible? The MSM makes out like it is the doctors holding out their greedy hands and demanding your first born to save you from your soda-induced diabetes. It is the insurance companies and the medical malpractice lawyers and Big Pharma holding out their greedy hands.
ACA did nothing to fix the healthcare situation. There is still an insurance company between our health care and us. They do not provide medical care, they just take a slice of the action. Other countries give better health care for much less money.
It is the fair and American thing to do to cut workers benefits if they are under 30 hours. They are just slouches and slugs anyway. What people fail to realize is that the executives and heirs simply do not make that much money to support the welfare state.
yeah...we need to be sure to consider who are the real victims in all this. /s
pass me the grey poupon
The true story of Obamacare is still not out......just wait..every year it will get worse and worse....that is if they let us know the truth....next year I think the small business has to get on board....they wont because the expenses will be just to high for a miedocre economy.....its not pay or go out of business..many will go out of business...many will not pay the cost....and the costs will be out of this world.....
unforseen, totally unexpected, will be used more and more in the MSM, obuma's doing a good job of revenge and his hatred knows no bounds..yes we can, hope and change..no coverage for ebola, say what?
Our fearless leader will impose sanctions on Walmart.
I like how no one lays any blame at the foot of the health care system. Nevermind the fact that US Citizens have been subsidising the health care costs for the globe for quite sometime. We have always been charged much higher than other countries because a) we can afford to pay (thats the other countires excuse) b)frivouls malpractice law suits and c)government regulation. Lay the blame where it lies, at all three.
Hasn’t Wal-Mart become a GSE through EBT?
They should have pensions!
I went to walmart a week ago. I wanted a trail camera. after walking around the store for 15 minutes, i couldn't find a single employee to help me (the camera was locked up). I walked out of the store. the only employee that works there is the self checkout patron. seriously, short walmart. it has to go out of business, if no one can actually shop there. besides, it smells putrid in there. If i ever go in, i need to pull my shirt over my nose... something between rancid pepperoni and a nail saloon glue.
Don’t short until you see a wig station near the door.
Here is the low down on insurance renewal rates this year, per our insurance agent.
Our firm is grandfathered in, so we do not, at this time, have to have an ACA compliant plan in place until 12/1/15 in order to avoid the $2000 per employee penalty. Our current plan can is horrible and can be considered a catastrophic plan. We received a 14% increase which will be hard to absorb, since we are not able to raise prices in our market, since too many of our competitors are using miss-classified 1099 workers or are just paying straight cash. That practice means they have no employees and do not have to provide insurance, thereby avoiding the $2000 per employee fine.
Our insurance agent priced up the same level of plan by our current health insurer that was ACA compliant, and told us that if we had to get that plan (or wanted to put it in place this year), it would be a 92% increase. 92% increase for the same horrible level plan just because it is ACA compliant! This is what we are in store for next 12/1/15 (and who knows what the rate increase will be in another year) and we will not be able to absorb that, so we will then have to switch from paying full family insurance, to only providing single insurance which is allowed under the ACA.
Now here is the kicker, when we put into place an ACA plan, the employees can still go to the government market place on their own to get insurance, but they do not qualify for the subsidy (our tax money) since the company has a compliant plan. If the company gets rid of insurance, then they can get the subsidy but then company then will definitely have to pay the $2000/employee penalty.
This beautiful catch 22 feature the government has created, will only start hitting small businesses next fall since, most firms last year changed their renewal dates to avoid facing this issue this year.
Shit winds are a comin' in 12 more months!
So you will pay a $2k per head penalty to the government, who will then turn around and offer that as a subsidy to your employees for Obamacare. You end up looking evil and the government ends up looking benevolent. This is all making more sense now.
Oh, and the government takes its cut and we are all a bit poorer.
Exactly Fred. But will we be considered more evil by offering a lousy plan that the employees do not want, that will prohibit them from going to the fed/state exchange to get a better plan because they get no subsidy? The main point, is that the prices are going through the roof because of ACA act, and it will only start hitting home with individuals next year. Our insurance agent has also told us that there are rumblings that the grandfather period will be extended even another year, because government knows sticker shock is coming for the electorate. The bad part about the grandfather rule though is that we cannot change health care companies for it to be considered a grandfathered plan, so we are captive. Our 14% increase this year will probably be even greater next year if the rule does get extended. Point is, like some other comments have noted, this ACA has not been implemented yet and it will open some eyes once it is forced on everyone. The savings promised during the politicians sale of this disaster of a law, were a complete lie.
Is it also not ironic that Wal-Mart announced they will now be selling health insurance as well? Now they claim they won't be making a dime from it, but who do you believe anymore, right?

Is it also not ironc that HHS hired a former Wal-Mart Executive at HHS as well? Don't forget though that in the Silicon Valley, there's a division of this company, Wal-Mart technologies that's make money with software services as well.

There you go, pass that cost of doing business on to the Government, the absolute best system the marriage of government and private business out of the lime light of the public can develop! Wally world and O'bola, made for each other.
Pensions cost money, the Waltons are't wealthy enough to pay for that nonsense! I cringe everytime I drive by one of those stores.
Next year will be worse. That's when all businesses get hit by Obamacare. Expect more firings, layoffs and full time workers turned into part time workers(to avoid penalties). Health insurance costs will continue to rise. Deductibles will go even higher again. What good is health insurance for the masses if you don't even have money to pay the deductible??? The media and liberals sold the public a shit sandwich. Now we all get to eat it.
i've always thought this healthcare clusterfuck was designed to create a demand for the government universal care system simply due to frustration with the mess, tax to support it would be hidden, everyone loves something for free.
Simply because there is an (insolvent) social welfare program in place is no reason to blame Walmart for not paying for employees' health care.
DO SOMETHING ABOUT GOVERNMENT SOCIAL WELFARE SPENDING INSTEAD!
And...why is YOUR healthcare anyone else's responsibility but your own, anyway?
"why is YOUR healthcare anyone else's responsibility but your own, anyway?"
It isn't. To understand one cause of the whole health fiasco, you must go to the source (IRS tax code) and see the preferential tax treatment given employer-sponsored health benefits.

yeah...poor, poor Walmart and the poor Insurance Companies. Seriously, let's lay the blame where it lies: those greedy assholes working part time!! Fuckers.
I know if you should, god forbid, get cancer Kred you won't take advantage of those poor insurance companies. You'll pay those $200,000 bills yourself because your healthcare is YOUR responsibility. The world needs more people like you.
I would probably VOLUNTARILY pay into catastrophic illness insurance coverage. Voluntarily. That's the difference...

Let's face it already, medical insurance is a socialist ponzi scheme.
Why do we healthy people have to pay premiums that support unhealthy people.
Move the death panels into the homes. Cash on the barrel head folks.
Let the family decide at the kitchen table if mother will get a new knee or if father will get the aortic bypass or if the neonatal stroke patient gets proper care.
Next on the schedule, assign all workers 29.5 hrs. per week!
Oh, the shock from the Obama administration: "We could never have imagined evil corporations would do this to their valued employees!" lol
