Leon Panetta Says Brace For 30 Year War With ISIS

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by Mike Krieger of Liberty Blitzkrieg blog,

"I vividly recall how, in the wake of Osama bin Laden’s killing, Obama partisans triumphantly declared that this would finally usher in the winding down of the War on Terror. On one superficial level, that view was understandable: it made sense if one assumes that the U.S. has been waging this war for its stated reasons and that it hopes to vanquish The Enemy and end the war.

But that is not, and never was, the purpose of the War on Terror. It was designed from the start to be endless.”

- Glenn Greenwald, in his latest piece for the Intercept

Leon Panetta is pretty much the epitome of a status quo insider. Someone, who due to his influence and mainstream veneer of respectability, is capable of inflicting an almost inconceivable amount of damage to freedom and prosperity in America. In fact, you could say that Mr. Panetta is as responsible as almost anyone else for the banana republic laughing stock that this nation has been transformed into over the past several decades. Why? Because he served in top positions for several of America’s Presidents over that time.

He started out working for Richard Nixon, before switching parties and serving nine terms as a Democratic Congressman from California. He then served the Clinton Administration, including as Chief of Staff. Most recently, he was head of the Department of Defense and the CIA under Obama. This is an extremely political animal.

His ties run deepest with the Clintons, and while he criticizes Obama heavily in his new book, he excitedly proclaims that Hilary Clinton would be “great president,” and that “one thing about the Clintons is, they want to get it done.”

I’m sure they do, but get what done exactly. In the case of of Bill Clinton, it was dismantling Glass Steagall, and fully turning over the entire U.S. economy and public policy to financial oligarchs.

Think I am exaggerating? In a recent USA Today interview, we can clearly see exactly what “getting it done” would mean during a Hilary Clinton Presidency: Endless War.

USA Today reports that:

“I think we’re looking at kind of a 30-year war,” he says, one that will have to extend beyond Islamic State to include emerging threats in Nigeria, Somalia, Yemen, Libya and elsewhere.

In the book’s final chapter, however, he writes that Obama’s “most conspicuous weakness” is “a frustrating reticence to engage his opponents and rally support for his cause.” Too often, he “relies on the logic of a law professor rather than the passion of a leader.” On occasion, he “avoids the battle, complains, and misses opportunities.”

Yeah, well Hitler was a pretty passionate leader.

Screen Shot 2014-10-07 at 12.15.08 PM

Back to USA Today…

Panetta also argues that there is time for Obama to change tactics and recover — and that it is imperative he do so.

He makes a similar observation about Hillary Clinton, saying she would be a “great” president. “One thing about the Clintons is, they want to get it done,” he says, in words that draw an implicit contrast with Obama. “When it comes to being president of the United States, it’s one thing to talk a good game. It’s another thing to deliver, to make things happen.”

“He may have found himself again with regards to this ISIS crisis. I hope that’s the case. And if he’s willing to roll up his sleeves and engage with Congress in taking on some of these other issues, as I said I think he can establish a very strong legacy as president. I think these next 2 1/2 years will tell us an awful lot about what history has to say about the Obama administration.”

Think about that deeply for a moment. He thinks Obama may have “found himself again with regards to this ISIS crisis.” This is quite telling, since what has characterized Obama’s ISIS policy, is him launching an illegal war that makes George W. Bush look like a constitutional scholar. According to Panetta, that decision characterizes Obama “finding himself.” Naturally, what appeals to Panetta most about Hilary Clinton is her bloodlust for more war. Glenn Greenwald chimes in:

Leon Panetta, the long-time Democratic Party operative who served as Obama’s Defense Secretary and CIA Director, said this week of Obama’s new bombing campaign: “I think we’re looking at kind of a 30-year war.” Only in America are new 30-year wars spoken of so casually, the way other countries speak of weather changes. He added that the war “will have to extend beyond Islamic State to include emerging threats in Nigeria, Somalia, Yemen, Libya and elsewhere.” And elsewhere: not just a new decades-long war with no temporal limits, but no geographic ones either. He criticized Obama – who has bombed 7 predominantly Muslim countries plus the Muslim minority in the Phillipines (almost double the number of countries Bush bombed) – for being insufficiently militaristic, despite the fact that Obama officials themselves have already instructed the public to think of The New War “in terms of years.”

Then we have Hillary Clinton (whom Panetta gushed would make a “great” president). At an event in Ottawa yesterday, she proclaimed that the fight against these “militants” will “be a long-term struggle” that should entail an “information war” as “well as an air war.” The new war, she said, is “essential” and the U.S. shies away from fighting it “at our peril.” Like Panetta (and most establishment Republicans), Clinton made clear in her book that virtually all of her disagreements with Obama’s foreign policy were the by-product of her view of Obama as insufficiently hawkish, militaristic and confrontational.

At this point, it is literally inconceivable to imagine the U.S. not at war. It would be shocking if that happened in our lifetime. U.S. officials are now all but openly saying this. “Endless War” is not dramatic rhetorical license but a precise description of America’s foreign policy.

Just yesterday, Bloomberg reported: “Led by Lockheed Martin Group (LTM), the biggest U.S. defense companies are trading at record prices as shareholders reap rewards from escalating military conflicts around the world.” Particularly exciting is that “investors see rising sales for makers of missiles, drones and other weapons as the U.S. hits Islamic State fighters in Syria and Iraq”; moreover, “the U.S. also is the biggest foreign military supplier to Israel, which waged a 50-day offensive against the Hamas Islamic movement in the Gaza Strip.” ISIS is using U.S.-made ammunition and weapons, which means U.S. weapons companies get to supply all sides of The New Endless War; can you blame investors for being so giddy?

I vividly recall how, in the wake of Osama bin Laden’s killing, Obama partisans triumphantly declared that this would finally usher in the winding down of the War on Terror. On one superficial level, that view was understandable: it made sense if one assumes that the U.S. has been waging this war for its stated reasons and that it hopes to vanquish The Enemy and end the war.

But that is not, and never was, the purpose of the War on Terror. It was designed from the start to be endless. Both Bush and Obama officials have explicitly said that the war will last at least a generation. The nature of the “war,” and the theories that have accompanied it, is that it has no discernible enemy and no identifiable limits. More significantly, this “war” fuels itself, provides its own inexhaustible purpose, as it is precisely the policies justified in the name of Stopping Terrorism that actually ensure its spread (note how Panetta said the new U.S. war would have to include Libya, presumably to fight against those empowered by the last U.S. war there just 3 years ago).

As I outlined in my post, The American Public: A Tough Soldier or a Chicken Hawk Cowering in a Cubicle? Some Thoughts on ISIS Intervention, as long as the citizenry remains in a fetal position praying for the return of a middle-class lifestyle that is not coming back without concerted effort and struggle, it will continue to be slaughtered like sheep and milked like cows.

Quite so. And from the videos I've seen, not one person was actually beheaded on film. The first two were nothing more than cut/splice pieces of footage showing a guy dressed in black, wielding a cheap knife and speaking with an English accent. Even the final few seconds that showed a man's head is not the victim with any certainty. The 2nd video was clearly a voiceover given that the speech was continuous and unbroken but the footage was cut/spliced.

The whole thing is a gigantic lie. We don't know with certainty if the victims have actually been beheaded. The available evidence simply does not support that claim.

None of this has prevented the propagandized MSM & political elites from referring to "beheadings on film" and a hunt is underway to identify the perpetrator "Jihad John". MI5 are believed to have identified him. If/When he returns to the UK, what can they charge him with?? Not murder for sure, unless the courts are instructed to find him guilty anyway.

ISIS didn't exist until the US helped create them deliberately or accidentally. In any case having a bunch of medieval fundamentalists running around should ensure that the region stays under - developed and burns as little of the US oil as possible. US will make a show of disrupting operations now and then, most likely any attempt to refine or export in size. By the time 30 years rolls around US will be desperate enough for oil that the government wont need any excuses like ISIS or WMD. But in the meantime it will be fun watching people explain how much the US cares about people in far away places especially as the US standard of living evaporates.

Serious question. "Is he Jewish or married into the religion?" I ask because AIPAC the Jewsih American Israeli lobby wields incredible power and influence over all American military and foreign policy. Since most Neocons in power are Jewish and many are Israeli, I think it obvious to know the underlying war fever of this guy. Sadly, to ask this real question is out of bounds because we must pretend that American Jews do not seek to make America the world class puppet of Israel.

Things are heating up in Israel, a recent mass grave in recaptured territory of East Ukraine, recently occupied by Right Sector Private Soldiers of Kiev, revealed some 38 bodies, checks reveal them to be locals, and almost half were Ukrainian Jews. Since America and Israel fund the Kiev Junta Private Battlions, the very same who did this killing, Israel is not amused. In fact, recently hacked email of Private Sector leaders revealed the anger in Israel over Kiev's Junta killing Jews. No outrage of dead christians mind you, but the hacked emails revealed growing anger of rich doners in Israel, doners who fund private Right Sector Battlions. Apparently, jew killing was not what the fundes in Israel expected from the Kiev allies. This story is unreported in the west, but the evidence is open source for Ukrainian, Russian, Hungarian and other Eastern Language speakers.

kinda dark funny. when i realized the west, supposedly run by jewish and gentile israeli sycophants, supported the nazi regime in kiev as the means to the nato end i realized the game was over. the west is done. unlike ww2 when the incarceration of jews was secretly lauded by the israel zionists the instant world wide communication systems of today make it impossible to keep a lid on anything someone wants to keep quiet.

so now it is clear the zionists are willing to sacrifice jews for the glory of empire.

Would those be pro Israeli Zionist Ukrainian Jews we're talking about or those other Jews?...

Hate to say this but what difference would it make anyway with the 38 bodies in that pit when Vicky Nuland and her husband with the tacit approval of the right leaning Binny and the fringe elements in our Congress and the Oval office that looked the other way when they helped to fund Svoboda and Right Sector goons in the first place with the "blue helmets" of Mossad training them???!...

I still can't believe the Zionists allowed themselves to jeopardize the only "fig leaf" they had left and that was the Holocaust card.  Now it's all out in the open for everyone to see. They are an equal opportunity employer when it comes to something that they must possess, so they invite Jew hating Nazis to get the job done!

Apparently this is how the MSM really works.  The picture painted by Udo Ulfkotte (and the use of bribes, fear, intimidation, and threats by intelligence agencies), clearly reflects the reality we see every day on the MSM news -- lies piled upon unmitigated lies.  No news but rather pure propaganda.

German Editor Confirms Mass Media is Controlled

October 8, 2014

Udo Ulfkotte, a former editor of Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (one of Germany’s largest and most respected newspapers), has confirmed that he and fellow journalists are bribed and controlled by intelligence agencies.  Utflotte says he went public because the Illuminati is prepping for a war with Russia by using the media to incite hostility.

by Udo Ulfkotte

Interview transcribed with comment by Eric Zeusse

I’ve been a journalist for about 25 years, and I’ve been educated to lie, to betray, and not to tell the truth to the public. … The German and American media tries to bring war to the people in Europe, to bring war to Russia. This is a point of no return, and I am going to stand up and say … it is not right what I have done in the past, to manipulate people, to make propaganda against Russia, and it is not right what my colleagues do, and have done in the past, because they are bribed to betray the people not only in Germany, all over Europe.

I am very fearful of a new war in Europe, and I don’t like to have this situation again, because war is never coming from itself, there is always people who push for war, and this is not only politicians, it is journalists too. … We have betrayed our readers, just to push for war. … I don’t want this anymore, I’m fed up with this propaganda. We live in a banana republic, and not in a democratic country where we have press freedom. …

The German media, especially, my colleagues …, day by day, write against the Russians, [these journalists] who are in transatlantic organizations, and who are supported by the United States (CIA) to do so. …

I became ‘honorary citizen of the state of Oklahoma,’ … Why? Because I write pro-American. I was supported by the Central Intelligence Agency, the CIA. Why? Because I am pro-American. I am fed up with it; I don’t want to do it anymore; and so I have just written a book, not to earn money, no, it will cause a lot of trouble for me. [I wrote it instead] to give the people in this country, Germany, in Europe, and all over the world, just a glimpse of … what goes on behind the closed doors. …

[4:40 on the video] Most of the journalists you see in foreign countries … European or American journalists …, like me in the past, are so-called non-official cover. … Non-official cover means what? You do work for an intelligence agency, … but … when they [the public] find out that you are not only a journalist but a spy too, they [the CIA] will never say this was one of our guys. … So, I have helped them in several situations, and I feel ashamed for that. … I feel ashamed that I … was bribed by billionaires, I was bribed by the Americans, not to report exactly the truth.

I was just imagining in my car while I was driving to this interview, I just try to work out in my brain what would have happened if I had written a pro-Russian article, in the Frankfurter Algemeine. Well, ... we were all educated to write pro-European, pro-American, but please not pro-Russian. ... But this is not what I understand for democracy, for press freedom, I am very sorry for that. ...

[6:30] Germany is still a kind of a colony of the United States, you'll see that in many points; like for example, the majority of Germany do not want to have nukes in our country, but we still have American nukes; so, we are still a kind of an American colony, and, being a colony, it is very easy to approach young journalists through (and what is very important here is) transatlantic organizations. All journalists from respected and big German newspapers, magazines, radio stations, TV stations, they are all members or guests of those big transatlantic organizations, and in these transatlantic organizations you are approached to be pro-American, and ... they invite you for seeing the United States, they pay for that, they pay all your expenses and everything. So, you are bribed, you get more and more corrupt, because they make you good contacts.  ... So, you make friends, you think they are your friends and cooperate with them. They ask you, 'will you do me this favor,' 'will you do me that favor,' so your brain is more and more brainwashed, through these guys. ...

Is this only the case with German journalists? No, I think it is especially the case with British journalists, because they have a much closer relationship. It is especially the case with Israeli journalists. Of course with French journalists. ... It is the case for Australians, [with] journalists from New Zealand, from Taiwan, well, there is many countries, ... like Jordan for example. ...

[9:17] Sometimes the intelligence agencies, they come to your office, and want you to write an article. ... I just remember [for example] that the German foreign intelligence agency, the Bundesnachrichtendienst -- it is just a sister organization of the Central Intelligence Agency, see it was founded by the American intelligence agency -- ... came to my office, and they wanted me to write an article about Libya and about Colonel Muammar Gaddafi. ... They gave me all these secret informations, and they just wanted me to sign the article with my name. I did that. It was published in the Frankfurter Algemeine, ... it was about how he secretly tried to build a poison gas factory, ... it was a story that was printed worldwide days later, but I had no information on that [the CIA wrote it].

[11:25] A very good example [what happens] if you say no [to the CIA]: ... So [regarding the particular employee who said no], what happened is that he lost his job.

[12:40] Six times my house was searched, ... I have [had] three house attacks, [but] I have no children, so ... it's worse for the truth [for other journalists, whose family can be threatened, not only themselves].

Comments by Eric Zeusse:

Ulfkotte has become a turncoat. He had originally been a conservative Christian German, who opposed the increasing presence in Germany of Muslims. He then came to feel so guilty as a German having discovered as a journalist the role that a major German company played in helping Saddam Hussein to gas Kurds, [using German poison gas] but which his newspaper never published, so that Ulfkotte briefly converted to Islam. Perhaps he was dealing with the shame he felt about his not bucking his newspaper's top management by simply ignoring them and going public about what he had found, his letting it remain hidden.

But then, he co-founded a Christian peace-movement against the Islamic extremism emerging in Germany. And now, he has come out with a book which argues that the U.S. is actually the biggest of all threats to peace. The book is available only in German, Gekaufte Journalisten, meaning "Purchased Journalists."

Now that he has abandoned not just the anti-Islamic but the anti-Russian elements of traditional German culture, he no longer is welcomed among the conservative Germans who had helped him to build, and then, for decades, to advance, his successful long career as a 'journalist,' but which he now calls "propagandist."

Moreover, a German poll in November 2013 showed increasing public distrust there of America's government. Since Germany is central to the Western Alliance -- and especially to the American aristocracy's control over the European Union, over the IMF, over the World Bank, and over NATO -- such a turn away from the American Government threatens the dominance of America's aristocrats (who control our Government). A breakup of America's 'Alliance' might be in the offing, if Germans continue to turn away from being just America's richest "banana republic."

It doesn't matter to them if the money is borrowed to fund welfare or warfare hence why they fund both leftwing welfare spender politicians and rightwing warfare spending politicians.

The only difference is which is the easier sell at the time: welfare or warfare?

"Today, America would be outraged if U.N. troops entered Los Angeles to restore order [referring to the 1991 LA Riot]. Tomorrow they will be grateful! This is especially true if they were told that there were an outside threat from beyond [i.e., an "extraterrestrial" invasion], whether real or promulgated, that threatened our very existence. It is then that all peoples of the world will plead to deliver them from this evil. The one thing every man fears is the unknown. When presented with this scenario, individual rights will be willingly relinquished for the guarantee of their well-being granted to them by the World Government."

Dr. Henry Kissinger, Bilderberger Conference, Evians, France, 1991

I agree with you 100%..... but, "go fuck yourself" would take a very long cock, and I doubt Panetta is "up" for the task.

We could lay waste to Isis or Isil in one month if the scumbag politicians like panetta would let the military take the gloves off and do what they have been trained to do, kill the enemy.

Not nation building bullshit.

You don't get it. The idea is permanent war- that is the goal. They also want to kill enough innocents so you create more terrorists. Wall Street and jerks like McCain, Lindsey Graham, Panetta and the rest of the usual Washington D.C. scum don't care about winning- the war makes them necessary. War is job security to them. They and the CIA/ NSA/ FBI and the other 13 intelligence agencies are the real terrorists

She'll do what she's told.  Remember, every president is a voicebox with wires coming out of them.  Nothing more.

Can't trust people who talk with their hands. In Panetta's case, you can't trust people who talk with their lips.
