US Ebola-Fighting Troops Mission Could Last A Year; Spain Quarantines 6, Euthanizes Dog; US Patients Conditions Worsen

Tyler Durden's picture

Africa's US commander has admitted troops will be fighting Ebola for about a year (and in direct contact with infected individuals). Both US Ebola patients conditions are worsening, as Reuters reports, Thomas Duncan is fighting for his life on a ventilator (and undergoing dialysis) and NBC cameraman Ashoka Mukpo is receiving blood from Ebola-survivor Dr. Kent Brantly. The outbreak in Spain has spread with 6 "high risk" patients under quarantine (and Excalibur the dog is set to be euthanized - raising questions about transmission mechanisms). The economic impact on West Africa continues to surge with The World Bank estimating a $32billion hit by the end of 2015.

US troops will be fighting Ebola for a year...

Thousands of U.S. troops may be living in tent cities in Liberia and supporting the fight against Ebola for "about a year" or until the deadly outbreak appears to be under control, the top military commander in Africa said Tuesday.

"This is not a small effort and it's not a short period of time," Army Gen. David Rodriguez, the chief of U.S. Africa Command, told reporters at the Pentagon.

Duncan is suffering...

The Ebola patient fighting for his life in a Dallas hospital is on a ventilator and a kidney dialysis machine to help stabilize his health, the hospital said on Tuesday.

Liberian national Thomas Eric Duncan, the first person diagnosed with the deadly virus on U.S. soil, has also been given the experimental medication brincidofovir.

And Mukpo is receiving blood transfusions..

The first American flown back to the U.S. after contracting Ebola has donated blood to an NBC News freelance cameraman who was also diagnosed with the virus. Photojournalist Ashoka Mukpo’s family told NBC News early Wednesday that Dr. Kent Brantly was contacted by the Nebraska Medical Center and asked to give plasma. Experts hope the survivor’s antibodies will kick-start Mukpo's immune system.

As Spain quarantines another potential Ebola patient...

One more Spanish health care worker was admitted to hospital for monitoring for Ebola today, bringing to six the number of hospitalisations in Madrid where a nurse has been infected with the disease, a hospital official said.

In the latest case, a nurse was quarantined at Madrid's La Paz-Carlos III hospital today morning as a precaution, a spokesman for the hospital said.

Another nurse had been admitted to the hospital with a fever yesterday night and put in quarantine for monitoring, he added, confirming Spanish media reports.

Three other people had been placed in quarantine at the hospital for monitoring after a nurse who works there was diagnosed with Ebola on Monday in the first case of transmission of the disease outside of Africa.

The woman, identified by Spanish media as Teresa Romero, a woman in her forties, had cared for two elderly Spanish missionaries who died from the virus following their return from west Africa.

Among the six people hospitalised was the woman's husband, considered at "high risk".

Not even man's best friend is safe (as CBC reports),

Ebola's victims may include a dog named Excalibur. Officials in Madrid got a court order to euthanize the pet of a Spanish nursing assistant with Ebola because of the chance the animal might spread the disease.

At least one major study suggests that dogs can be infected with the deadly virus without having symptoms. But whether or how likely they are to spread it to people is less clear.

Lab experiments on other animals suggest their urine, saliva or stool might contain the virus. That means that in theory, people might catch it through an infected dog licking or biting them, or from grooming.

"Clearly we want to look at all possibilities. We have not identified this as a means of transmission," said Dr. Thomas Frieden, director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The Spanish nurse believes she was infected as she remover her containment suit...

Nursing assistant who contracted ebola in Madrid thinks she may have become infected when part of suit touched her face when she took it off after attending to infected patient, says German Ramirez, one of the doctors treating her.

And The World Bank is concerned at the economic costs...

The deadly Ebola epidemic could deal a USD 32 billion-plus blow to the West African economy over the next year if officials cannot get it under control, the World Bank warned today.

If efforts to halt its spread out of a three-country core -- Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea -- are not successful by December, the entire region faces a real threat of economic catastrophe, the Bank said in a new report.

"In broader regional terms, the economic impacts could be limited if immediate national and international responses succeed in containing the epidemic and mitigating aversion behavior," it said.

"If, on the other hand, the epidemic spreads into neighboring countries, some of which have much larger economies, the cumulative two-year impact could reach US$32.6 billion by the end of 2015."

It appears Ebola is not contained...

When are these troops going to rise up and say, "Enough of this horseshit"?  When will they finally and righteously rebel against the satanic puppeteers who throw them into harms way for no American benefit or interest?  Maybe a dozen or so of them coming back home with bleeding eyes will cause a revolt of some kind.  This lunacy must cease.

Amazingly, the CDC owns “the” patent on Ebola and all future strains.

The “SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION” section of the patent document also clearly claims that the U.S. government is claiming “ownership” over all Ebola viruses that share as little as 70% similarity with the Ebola it “invented”:

Why would a government organization claim to have “invented” this infectious disease and then claim a monopoly over its exploitation for commercial use? It is clear that the CDC plans to claim royalties on Ebola vaccines. This certainly increases the likelihood that the vaccines will become mandatory, thus increasing the profit potential for the patent holders.

Clearly, Ebola is manmade and this patent proves this contention. Why does the CDC need to own the patent on Ebola? Perhaps, we should ask Bill Gates why he is donating $50 million to the UN and the CDC in the name of fighting Ebola (see video below). The CDC has partners in the fight against Ebola, namely, Crucell, the National Institute of Health (NIH) and the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID) and, of course, Bill and Melinda Gates.

Do you understand how much we are being lied to by the media on this topic? The work on an Ebola virus, sanctioned by the holder of the patent for the vaccine, the NIH), has been ongoing since 2004 with clinical trials in 2006. This explains why the CDC and the NIH are bringing Ebola patients into the country to treat. The moment that an Ebola patient crosses the U.S. border, they become the intellectual property of the CDC, NIH and Bill and Melinda Gates! How can we not believe that this is the Hegelian Dialectic run amok in a case of problem creation, solution to the problem and reaction to the problem?
The involvement of the USAMRIID is noteworthy because the Army has long been rumored to have created Ebola and, for purposes of experimentation, implanted the artificial virus in Zaire in 1977.

When an unsuspecting public is finally told of the existence of an Ebola vaccine, the Global Fund will be in charge of the distribution of the vaccine. Interestingly, Bill Gates has donated a total of $560 million dollars to the Global Fund. The Global Fund has also positioned themselves to be in charge of the distribution of the “newly developed”, and not yet announced vaccines for TB and HIV. Since the goal is the vaccination of every man, woman and child on the planet with multiple vaccines, Gates’ $560 million contribution to the Global Fund is chump change compared to the expected ROI. However, on deck is the Ebola virus.

Given it is slightly attributed to helping the allies by decimating the enemy first, it seems likely. Ebola is weird because it has been hitting western countries (via Africa of course). Haven't heard of a case in any of the BRICS yet.....

We were going to ask this question on the Ruble thread but decided not to as it's so daunting but maybe this is the place: Has it begun? Is it time to circle the wagons? Will we have to start making life and death decisions in the very near future? If all these ebola cases are legit and the incubation period is 21 days or so, what might the world look like in November? If you have a friend or family member in the hospital, will you visit them? Might that be suicidal? One thing is certain, they want martial law and it appears people will be begging for it real soon.

Depends on how far this rabbit hole goes.

IF these pathogens (Ebola, E68, etc.) are part of a sinister plot to bring in martial law with thunderous applause, then I suspect there is a 'cure/vaccine' for the powerful. Otherwise, to release pathogens into the wild puts everyone at risk no matter your social status - lest you plan to live the next decade or so in underground bunkers sealed off from the rest of us.

Or - they really are that full of hubris.

Or - mother nature really does bat last.

After watching this short video I had some questions.

How do you drink water after you’re suited up?

How do you use the bathroom if needed?

How does the last person remove his suit safely?

Do you throw away the $40.00 rubber boots and $180.00 face mask after each use?

What do you do with the room you just undressed in?

You don't drink or use the bathroom while suited up.  The boots and facemask are washed and the filters should be replaced.  I would not recommend taking off the suit as shown in the video.  The suit should be disposed of so you don't need to use the zipper.  We always used a cutter similar to a mail opener and cut open the suit.  This method requires less handling and less chance of contaminating the wearer.  The person helping should have on either a respirator or wear a facesheild.  It would be almost impossible to perform that task without contaminating yourself on the face.  He should also wear several extra pair of disposable gloves and remove a pair after each step of helping the other person remove the suit.  If health care workers do it the way shown in the video I am not surprised that they catch the disease.  They also need to have a visibly marked line for stepping over as they remove the contaminated suit.  One side in considered contaminated and the other side is kept clean.  Both sides should be wiped down periodicaly to maintain cleanliness.  The video is sadly inadequate for protection from most contaminates.  For something life threatening a double set of coveralls is normally used.

The 21 day number is max(though some think a longer period is more appropriate just to be safe) but the average/median is in the 5 to 7 days. I would think that if Duncan had infected anyone we should have been seeing them showing up at the Dallas hospitals by now. His care givers on the other hand could be a problem just as the nurse in Spain has become.

That would be Marburg, which this most likely is. This outbreak doesn't seem to be Ebola, the entire thing has probably been Marburg all along.

Ebola death is worse than Marburg, even though the diseases are similar. Marburg was engineered and far more contagious than Ebola. Marburg was engineered using fruit bats as carriers and they probably tested the disease on an African tribe at some point. One of the fruit bats probably escaped and infected others.

I remember watching a show on the Soviet bio warfare experiments. Essentially the Soviets developed all kinds of viral weapons, some which could kill the entire population of the world in a few months. They also created enough supply to kill everyone hundreds of times over.

The PC CDC is following Obama's libtard agenda.

Common sense is thrown out the window.

In the meantime Obama and his liberal media are boasting about the ISIS bombing. Reports are coming out that Obama is bombing fake targets just to boost his polls in the US.

Is that why ISIS is making major gains as if the US isn't even there.

Or...or.....  the US is targeting Syrian infrastructure and Syrian government troops and capabilities ahead of a push to get boots on the ground and depose Assad.

Also, if you keep trying to blow up the bad guys in their bunks, it doesn't help if 'someone' tips them off ahead of time...

ISIS is a tool of Washington/London/Riyadh/Ankara/Jerusalem - they have work, yet, to do, in remaking the middle east.

So who's paying for Duncan's care? Obviously he doesn't have health insurance. If I got Ebola I'm sure a multi million dollar bill would show up in my mailbox. Critical ER care is $30k a day just for the room and dialysis runs $10k a day. Not to mention the experimental drug which would probably be $15k per dose.

PAYS TO BE AN ILLEGAL!!!

They just want him to survive so they can use his blood for the .1% syrum. Can't have the average Bugatti owner not be able to enjoy his 84 cars, 3 jets, and Yacht.

The real question is unlike all the other Ebola patients who make useful blood donors/lab rates etc, do they really want Duncan to live?

Duncan poses a bigger problem by surviving, the fact that he had enough money to buy a ticket to the U.S makes him upper class in Africa.  By fleeing to the U.S and surviving he sends a message to others to flee at first signs of symptoms or contact with the virus and therefore accelerating the global spread.

Evidence suggest the authorities agree given the delay in giving him Ebola medication and locking up his family in an ebola incubator for a week.

What if the troops say “Hell no, we wont go!”, then what? It may be time for our young warriors to say enough. No more being used to fight for the oligarchs and oil, no being used as guinea pigs to fight Ebola. They will get cuts and abrasions and be working right alongside the infected indigenous population. They will be ill prepared for this deadly disease. Even well trained and well equipped medical teams are being infected.  It is a suicide mission and no Americans should have to go. We need to seal our borders, now more than ever.

So dogs may become reservoir hosts for the virus. And what other animals, as the virus is introduced into new areas... Cats? Pigs? Cows? Chickens? Mosquitoes? Fleas? Houseflies?

"Replication of virus in internal organs and viral shedding from the nasopharynx were documented in the absence of clinical signs of disease in infected pigs. These observations confirm not only that asymptomatic infection of pigs with REBOV occurs, but that animals so affected pose a transmission risk to farm, veterinary, and abattoir workers [not to mention people who are EATING the asymptomatic Ebola infected pigs! -vegan]"

It's ironic because of the dog?

It's moments like this that briefly alleviate the feeling that my English baccalaureate was a waste of time.  That may have been the point, however.  I spent most of the time drunk, so I can't be sure.  Which leads me to your question - and a possible solution.

I've often found that important decisions about whiskey can only be fully addressed whilst drinking whiskey.  In the interest of science, I have consumed a modest amount so that I might provide a clearer perspective.

My feeling is that the risks of becoming dangerously sober far outweigh any other consideration at present.  Any sudden gain in whiskey availability may very well be offset by the need to be even less sober due to the circumstances which have facilitated its sudden availability.

Sobriety is inversely proportional to circumstance - let this be your guiding principle.

So they euthanize a dog because it may spread the disease but not the humans who may spread the disease and who will obviously be worse at spreading it. Brilliant logic by that species. Note to humans: YOU ARE NOT SPECIAL. You're made of the same crap every other species is so if those species are fine to kill off then so are you.

As to the dog, a dog is a "suface, " is it not? Isn't that enough to worry about it? Of course we're a little unsure how long ebola lingers on surfaces. Could dunk the dog in bleach, I suppose -- but putting it down might be the kindest thing to do.
