What The World Needs Now... Is Not This

Tyler Durden's picture

Despite the post-FOMC exuberance, there has been yet another major technical breakdown, this time in the infamous Vanguard Total World Stock ETF... remember, the trend is your friend... until it ends.

Bangalore,  spoken like a person who had his ass handed to him by the market.  Gov stats, central bankers, and company fundamentals can be fudged or outright lies.  The charts have never lied and offer a lot more transparency than any government or company.

Sorry I don't play hocus-pocus.

Charts show true supply and demand.  The only thing it wont show are dark pools.  How many times has there been a scandal regarding charts.  None that i know of.  How many times have Central bankers and government stats come out as total inaccuracies or straight out lies?  why does this data subject to revisions?  the only charts i know subject to revision are futures chart.  Do you trust the employment or inflation numbers?  How many Enrons, MCIs, etc does it take to convince you that companies sometime completely lie about their data.  Also, fundamentals are a lagging indicator.  they base their numbers far into the past.  Their forward guidance is not a true reflection future events. they try to look to far into the future not taking into account a billion variables.

Also, .gov sued S&P for true to tell the truth about the health of US bonds.

Remember MBSs were rated as AAA and that was a sham.

Things like Japanese candlesticks have been around hundreds of years to help predict the price of rice.  Some of the largest mutual funds, large institutions, and central banks buy and sell equities based on moving avgs.  It literally pays to pay attention to such things when hundreds of billions of dollars are at stake especially in forex or bond market maybe you trade the fundamentals and have been successful at it.  Congratulations.  But I have recently learned to successfully read the charts and want to turn it into a full time job. Granted charting is not 100%.  But id rather take my chances with charts than the fundamentals.

THe Fund Managers will have to defy their own internal risk control protocols to stay long at some point.

-THAT could have very ugly repurcussions if things don't work out so well for their Clients...

Notice the bulk of the easy/fast money was already on the table in 2009.  IF as an individial investor You were long for the 2009 ramp there is lots of room to sit out a few thousand points of carnage and grab at a few falling knives...

In retrospect it might have been best to sit out 2010 and 2011 if you weren't trading both long and short or selling the peaks and buying dips.  Although the big retrace in 2009 was spectacular, The FED never really got protocols and game plan in place until mid/late 2012.

"Fucking technicals" 102, Chapter 1:

The shortest distance between two points is a line.

A line drawn through points arbitrarily selected by pointed-head old-school technical analysts is a trendline.

Computer code that waits for such poindexters to trade upon these cave drawings, then smashes the hell out of them using big investment bank bucks, is known as an "algo."

 The trend has ended.

Fonz made a compelling point earlier. (bless his soul)

If Treasuries decoupled from {Corp. and RE bond yields}, how would we define risk?

Would regulators just run amok with risk pricing? Why would Treasury yields stay low?

Wouldn't everyone chase yield into HYG, causing treasury yields to rise?

What would be the impact on the USD from this type of move?

My guess is that the USD would devalue putting even more pressure on it's reserve status.

Japan is NOT a reserve currency country. It's economy is 1/6 of the United States.

Could get out of hand but you saw the banksters even pick up the Russell today. Even though the world indexes are being manipulated by software with an infinite supply of backing I believe there is a point at which the charts become meaningless and the financial system goes ice 9 no matter what. But I don't think you'll see anything like before. It will appear as a complete shut down--the markets will be vaporized in one unmeasurable instant.

This type of schizophrenia in equities after an extended run-up typically signifies a great deal of indecision and doubt, prior to a downturn.  Not saying that's it definitely going to be that way this time, but clearly there are many emerging risks for future economic growth.
