Ebola Pandemic Update: Probable Cases In Brazil And Paris, 7 More Isolated In Spain, WHO Warning

Tyler Durden's picture

Despite claims of containment, Reuters reports seven more people turned themselves in late on Thursday to an Ebola isolation unit in Madrid; but following a visit by PM Rajoy, Spanish citizens can relax as the government is setting up a special Ebola committee. Following yesterday's scare in Paris, The Independent reports authorities are investigating a 'probable' case of a French national who may have contracted the disease in Africa. The World Health organization has warned that East Asia is at risk of becoming a "hot spot" for diseases - but is well prepared after SARS and avian flu but it is the appearance of a confirmed case in Brazil that is most concerning. A 47-year-old man, originally from Guinea, is LatAm's first case and suggests SOUTHCOM's "nightmare scenario" is closer than many would care to believe. Finally, the CDC has issued special guidance to 911 operators on dealing with suspected Ebola cases across America.

Spain continues to escalate (as Reuters reports)

Seven people turned themselves in late on Thursday to an Ebola isolation unit in Madrid where Teresa Romero, the nurse who became the first person to contract Ebola outside Africa, lay gravely ill.

...

In Spain, recriminations mounted over Romero, who was infected in hospital as she treated two Spanish missionaries who had caught the hemorrhagic fever in West Africa -- where Ebola has already killed around 4,000 people -- and remained undiagnozed for days despite reporting her symptoms.

The seven new admissions included two hairdressers who had given Romero a beauty treatment before she was diagnosed with Ebola, and hospital staff who had treated the 44-year-old nurse. The Carlos III hospital said they had all turned themselves in voluntarily to be monitored for signs of the disease.

A hospital spokeswoman said there were now 14 people in the isolation unit on its sealed-off sixth floor, including Romero, her husband, and health workers who had cared for Romero since she was admitted on Monday.

But have no fear...

  • *SPAIN IS PREPARED TO DEAL WITH EBOLA, SAENZ DE SANTAMARIA SAYS
  • *SPAIN SETS UP SPECIAL EBOLA COMMITTEE, DEPUTY PM SAYS
  • *DEPUTY PM SAENZ SAYS SHE WILL CHAIR SPAIN EBOLA COMMITTEE
  • *SPAIN TO CREATE EBOLA CRISIS TEAM, PM RAJOY SAYS
  • *POSSIBILITY OF WIDER EBOLA CONTAGION VERY LOW, RAJOY SAYS

Following yesterday's false alarm, The Independent reports that France appears to have its first case...

Authorities in Paris are investigating a “probable” case of Ebola in a hospital, according to local reports.

Doctors are expected to receive results from medical tests on a woman who may have contracted the virus and is currently being treated in hospital on Friday, Europe 1 has reported.

They fear the woman may have contracted the virus in Africa. She is understood not to be a French national.

Brazil becomes the first South American country with a confirmed Ebola infection (as The Independent reports)

Brazil is treating a 47-year-old man who has become the country’s first suspected case of the deadly Ebola virus.

The man, originally from Guinea in West Africa, has been placed into isolation at a hospital in the city of Cascavel, where Brazil’s ministry of health have sent specialists to provide additional help and care.

He arrived in Brazil on 19 September and is believed to have travelled from Guinea.

On Thursday afternoon the man went to the emergency department at the hospital with a fever. His case is being treated by medics as suspicious as his symptoms have developed within the maximum incubation period for Ebola, which is 21 days.

Brazil’s ministry of health has reminded people that Ebola is transmitted through the contact with the blood, tissues or bodily fluids of sick individuals, or through the contact of contaminated objects or surfaces.

Which is what SOUTHCOM commander General John Kelly said was his "nightmare scenario"

In the US, the CDC has issued guidance for 9-1-1 operators dealing with suspected Ebola infected patient calls...

Who this is for: Managers of 9-1-1 Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs), EMS Agencies, EMS systems, law enforcement agencies and fire service agencies as well as individual emergency medical services providers (including emergency medical technicians (EMTs), paramedics, and medical first responders, such as law enforcement and fire service personnel).

What this is for: Guidance for handling inquiries and responding to patients with suspected Ebola symptoms, and for keeping workers safe.

How to use: Managers should use this information to understand and explain to staff how to respond and stay safe. Individual providers can use this information to respond to suspected Ebola patients and to stay safe.

Key Points:

  • The likelihood of contracting Ebola is extremely low unless a person has direct unprotected contact with the blood or body fluids (like urine, saliva, feces, vomit, sweat, and semen) of a person who is sick with Ebola or direct handling of bats or nonhuman primates from areas with Ebola outbreaks.
  • When risk of Ebola is elevated in their community, it is important for PSAPs to question callers about:
    • Residence in, or travel to, a country where an Ebola outbreak is occurring;
    • Signs and symptoms of Ebola (such as fever, vomiting, diarrhea); and
    • Other risk factors, like having touched someone who is sick with Ebola.
  • PSAPS should tell EMS personnel this information before they get to the location so they can put on the correct personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • EMS staff should check for symptoms and risk factors for Ebola. Staff should notify the receiving healthcare facility in advance when they are bringing a patient with suspected Ebola, so that proper infection control precautions can be taken.

The guidance provided in this document is based on current knowledge of Ebola.

*  *  *

And finally, the World Health Organization is warning about risk in East Asia... (China Daily)

East Asia, with its trade and transport hubs and armies of migrant workers, is at risk from Ebola but is improving its defenses and may be more ready than other areas to respond if cases are diagnosed, World Health Organization officials said Friday.

Shin Young-soo, the WHO regional director for the Western Pacific, said East Asia has been a "hotspot" for emerging diseases in the past and has dealt with SARS and avian flu, so it is more prepared than other regions to respond after learning the importance of public education, strong surveillance and transparency.

"All these travel, economic trade, and we have global hubs like Singapore, Hong Kong, and the Philippines is sending a lot of work forces all over the world," make it a possibility for the virus to reach East Asia, Shin said.

It is not contained...

It is clear which region is the most concerned...

Meh.

Did you see our fancy, scary Ebola Gumby Hazmat suits on an airplane lately? You may want to hurry and complete registering for ObamaCare or you may be bitten by a Liberian Fruitbat while shopping for bananas at the grocery
store (especially if you're now young, healthy but short on cash - we know that the economy sucks - but we [BigPharma&BigInsurance] need you to make our new ponzi scheme work) and therefore have no recourse & no access to our soon to be released combination miracle drug & vaccine.

Hurry, because enrollment in CronyKapitalism Health Care ends soon!

I move quietly, mostly unnoticed through the crowd. I watch my victims entertain themselves with war, it amuses me to see them playing with resources, tanks, jets, puppets, gold, pawns, crackers, blood, assets and guns. I am not evil as the concept of sin eludes me and I don't discriminate against any particular individual. I will not judge on race, religion, status, morality, nationality, intellect or age. I am not on a mission and I don't know my purpose, my only instinct is to multiply and I am the same with everybody. I don't know if I was modified, created or manufactured. I do, however, know my name. Some, they call me Ebola, I prefer my title, Destroyer of Worlds.

The Ebola vaccine trade is over....not all the vaccines will work and depends on the victim's health and the time he has been infected (the longer till he gets treatment, the lesser the chance of survival, EVEN with a vaccine. Duncan died using the CMRX drug. These drugs are hit or miss, no guarantees

Thus, the best way to be sure is PREVENTION...aka hazmat suits....and even that, you need to be careful to use it properly, aka DONT ROLL UP YOUR SLEEVES!

The hazmat makers are running today (LAKE and APT), and the sheeps are getting worried even as Obola/Frieden keeps lying about everything is A-OK, these things may fly even more when they sell to the retail sheeps. I may make my own hazmat suits using garbage bags and ski goggles and sell when Ebola arrives to my neighborhood.

Actually hes been on this Ebola thing since the start of this year WAY ahead of everyone else, the J-owned MSM media didnt even cover Ebola until it was full blown spreading like wildfire even as CDC head ziobag Frieden still lying that everything is under control.

classic tyler pump and dump....lets keep posting sensational headlines about all of the "almost" ebola cases. hey tyler, if ebola is the new scourge, why is that, in a region of africa with 250 million people, a region with poor sanitation, poor healtcare infrastructure, little education and lots of superstition, there have been only 3000 deaths???? the standard fare flu causes more than that every single year in the united states. all of the bullshit headlines by tyler and so far there has been one case in the united states....oh wait, theyve quarantined a guy who has fever and the shits!!!!......eblola!!!!! oh wait, sorry it was just bad taco bell......nevermind, tyler doesnt need fact, just headlines!!!!!!

hey tyler, why havent you put up the headlines about how nigeria stamped out ebola??? hmmm?????? you want the u.s. to worry about ebola when nigeria was able to contain it? typical zh bullshit sensationalism.........

good job tyler, youve moved closer to the status of a supermarket gossip rag...........

DS, no country can eliminate ebola unless the virus itself is eliminated....all it takes is an infected person to stroll through the border.....i said nigeria stamped out the last outbreak.....dont let tylers doomer fantasies get in the way of fact....ebola is not as contagious as tyler would have you think, and with good infrastructure, it is easily contained.

how many cases in the u.s.??? 1???  how many "almost" "probable" cases tyler keeps touting, which turn into nothing???  too many to count......

DS, the irony here is that tyler has you as brainwashed as any other sheeple out there. he is throwing enough shit at the wall hoping something sticks (which it never does for tyler) and you are buying into all of it.

lets get back to fact.....how many of those who were in that ebola sweat drenched apartment in dallas came down with it? none. how about that frisco sheriffs officer who had a "probable" case? nope.

Anyhow, the world is a fuckin mess, you cant deny that fact. ZH maybe over doing certain things like blowing Ebola to a level that isnt warranted but MSM was way behind on this. What do you rather have then?? At least ZH is reporting real events whereas MSM hides the truth, causing you to be clueless. What ZH reports is up to you yourself to interpret as useful or relevant. I choose to take some of what is written on here by the Tylers and fellow posters. Thats my call.

This is America buddy. Democracy?? we have every right to express our personal feelings and glad ZH allows that. So basically, you live in your own little world and only see and hear what YOU want to hear??? its tough to accept reality, I agree but only people who can articulate can see the gong show going on and SOMEBODY is calling the shots....even animals prepare for a cold winter by stocking up food prior to the cold....so people are preparing for a desolate future because we have been given the mind to analyze situations and prepare just in case....if we didnt, we could be worse than animals.

Anyhow, there is a lot of hate on here but try to understand why. I have a job and yes maybe I should be doing more at work but honestly, what you want me to do, keep looking at the markets bounce up on bad news and up even more on horrible news?

why is that, in a region of Africa with 250 million people, a region with poor sanitation, poor healthcare infrastructure, little education and lots of superstition, there have been only 3000 deaths????

Actually closer to 4000 but, seriously? poor sanitation indeed but also keep in perspective the inability to keep an absolute pulse on the ebola outbreak in Africa.  Meaning 3865 (at the time of this post) is HIGHLY unlikely to be representative of the actual number of dead in a country/continent that does not have death certificate with cause of death required like in our country.  No paperwork (villages burying their own dead) means no accuracy in ACTUAL number of dead.

Actual stats as of the time of this post:

Total Cases: 8033    Laboratory-Confirmed Cases: 4461    Total Deaths: 3865  -   http://tiny.cc/CDCstatistics

Unreported deaths/cases:

...The World Health Organisation (WHO) said the magnitude of the Ebola epidemic in West Africa has been "vastly" underestimated and extraordinary measures are needed to contain the disease...

...World Health Organisation (WHO)...warning that unknown numbers of people were dying in “shadow zones” unrecorded by medical authorities...

...Families are hiding infected loved ones, on the assumption that, because Ebola has no cure, it would be better for them to die at home rather than in hospital...

...In remote villages, corpses are being buried before authorities are notified...

So yeah, your 'only 3000 deaths' comment is a bit disingenuous to say the least.

You do not think the our govt would hide things from us?  Like you know, when they shut down the radiation monitoring stations after fukushima.

Um.... just wait a couple of months......  the number of cases are doubling ever 3 weeks and, the numbers are just starting to get interesting.... In January, when the number of deaths is 750,000 or so, you may change your mind.

Even if you think that we can control it here...  Our system could be easily overwhelmed if it comes across our borders in from Mexico in large numbers of sick or, soon to be sick, people trying to escape it.

So, you have to ask yourself not if we can contain it here.... Can Mexico contain it?  Can China and India contain it?

I don't think we're in any kind of trouble yet but, we could be next year sometime if our system gets saturated with patients and quarantines.

I think the best news I've heard so far is that there are not one but two vaccines that they're testing.... if that works, that could stop this thing in it's tracks.

Vaccines do NOT "cure" disease.

They, at best, force your body to create its own antibodies.

NOT A CURE.

If you are vaccinated, you can get the disease from the vaccine, or the wild, not 100% effective for ANYTHING (contrary to American myth).

CURES are CURES, and in America, we believe in treating symptoms, not curing disease.

Look for a "cure" which will end up costing millions and millions in drugs and doc visits to "maintain" it.  Just like HIV, just like many cancers.

There is NO MONEY in CURES.

Besides, Bill Gates owns the dna and he has been quoted multiple times stating that a portion of the population MUST be allowed to die.

Wow, I can't believe that most don't understand what vaccines truly are.  They just march their munchkins in and let the medical professional inject them ten times, then they never can figure out why little Johnny developed deadly allergies, a drop in cognitive behaviors and then die from cancer.  Coincidences all!

"Tel Aviv: Birthplace of Visa Card, MasterCard, "American" Express, etc."  I was curious if that statement was true, so did a search. One source gives what it claims is the history of credit cards in US; not everything is appended below but the three you mention are: http://www.creditcards.com/credit-card-news/credit-cards-history-1264.php#ixzz3FlVaqTxB

"The first bank card, named "Charg-It," was introduced in 1946 by John Biggins, a banker in Brooklyn, according to MasterCard. According to its archivist, American Express formed in 1850. It  specialized in deliveries as a competitor to the U.S. Postal Service, money orders (1882) and traveler's checks, which the company invented in 1891. The company discussed creating a travel charge card as early as 1946, but it was the launch of the rival Diners Club card that put things in motion. In 1958 the company emerged into the credit card industry with its own pruduct, a purple charge card for travel and entertainment expenses. In 1959, American Express introduced the first card made of plastic (previous cards were made of cardboard or celluloid). American Express soon introduced local currency credit cards in other countries. About 1 million cards were being used at about 85,000 establishements within the first five years, both in and out of the U.S. In the 1990s, the company expanded into an all-purpose card. American Express, or Amex as it often is called, is about to celebrate its 50th credit card anniversary. "The general-purpose credit card was born in 1966, when the Bank of America established the BankAmerica Service Corporation that franchised the BankAmericard brand (later to be known as Visa) to banks nationwide," Sienkiewicz writes. In 1966, a national credit card system was formed when a group of credit-issuing banks joined together and created the InterBank Card Association, according to MasterCard. The ICA is now known as MasterCard Worldwide, though it was temporarily known as MasterCharge. This organization competes directly with a similar Visa program. "The new bank card associations were different from their predecessors in that an 'open-loop' system was now created, requiring interbank cooperation and funds transfers," Sienkiewicz says. Visa and MasterCard still maintain "open-loop" systems, whereas American Express, Diners Club and Discover Card remain "closed-loop." Visa and MasterCard's organizations both issue credit cards through member banks and set and maintain the rules for processing. They are both run by board members who are mostly high-level executives from their member banking organizations. As the bank card industry grew, banks interested in issuing cards became members of either the Visa association or MasterCard association. Their members shared card program costs, making the bank card program available to even small financial institutions. Later, changes to the association bylaws allowed banks to belong to both associations and issue both types of cards to their customers. "

"...Oh right, Ebola was created in a Mossad lab and introduced into Africa by returning illegal aliens..."

No, LasVegasDave, that's impossible. Israel does not permit research directly on highly lethal viruses anywhere in Israel. There is no research inside the country on ebola.

Israel researches filoviruses - mostly Marburg - at their lab in Uganda. Ugandians are sub-humans to the Israelis, so the accidental release of a few bugs there is inconsequential.

Israeli bioweapon research now probably only focuses on weaponization and vaccinations. In the 90's, however, the body of the South African research into ethnic-specific bioweapons was transferred to Israel. Later reserch by Israel uncovered the embarrassing fact that Palestinians were just as Semitic as the Israelis. Genetically speaking, they were even more purely Semitic than most Israeli Jews. So much for 'easy' ethnic cleansing. The Israelis did find some unique genetic markers in Iraqi Arabs that could be exploited for bioweapons purposes, but ended up sending their bitch - the U.S. - to take care of Saddam's army.

Israel also has a long-standing interest in using bacteriophages for both good and evil purposes. Bacteriophages are kind of like viruses that attack bacteria. They don't kill the infected bacteria cell right away, but usurp its internals to reproduce more phages that are released to infect other bacterial cells. The bulk of the original research on phages comes from Russian Jewish scientists that were enticed to emigrage to Israel after the fall of the Soviet Union. They were given high-paying research posts in Israel's top universities and continue that research today. There are hundreds of papers on phage research out of Israel.

Phages are of interest because they can also be used to inject DNA into human cells, opening up a whole universe of evil possibilities for ethno-genocide. If Israel could only get rid of all those dirty arabs (especially those pesky Palistinian Semites) then the world would be a wonderful place. Um, except for the blacks. Israel doens't care for them much either, so I guess they have to go. I'm not sure about asians - I think Nettanyahu likes asian food, so they're probably OK for now.

Time to put the dronecopters to work in the DMZ along the southern border.  A dronecopter could conceivably hold more ammo and larger weapons to strafe desert walkers.  A larger drone vehicle could also hold IR devices for which to easily spot desert walkers, especially at night.  Dronecopters could be largely self-controlling.  Hover, spot, saturate the target with lead, move on.  Mark the site with GPS so that smaller scout drones can arrive later to confirm the kill.

I believe TPTB considered these types of scenarios in the 80's in movies like "The Running Man", where it's postulated that human officers demonstrating humanity are an inherent flaw in a system of totalitarian control.  They are a liability in the cockpit of military vehicles and they are a liability in the prison system as well (Ahnold's outlaw character eventually becomes the fulcrum of a revolutionary movement).

At this point you have to be under the running assumption that they are either trying to spread this, or are closing their eyes and hoping it goes away.

Either way, not that comforting.

Almost every case (out of Africa) has one thing in common.  The person has recently been in one of these areas.  The only one I know of that isn't is the Spanish nurse, and she is 1 step removed from an out of Africa traveller.

If every rational, thinking person would take a deep breath & engage their critical thinking skills and warranted skepticism, it would become more likely that they'd see this as the elaborate (but poorly produced) government/industrial panic production that it is.

I would have to agree.  The people in charge (GS) know that this false economy (markets) cannot remain at this level without further QE boosting it.  And QE just stopped (paused). Voila, the market is going down.

The government also knows they must project concern but not panic.  Take some steps and when it pops up like Where's Waldo around the nation they can feign surprise.  This is the perfect excuse for a short collapse, which will provide cover for something drastic that keeps the bankers in charge.

Letting a little air out of the balloon so it doesn't pop.  Tricky though.  Like a water landing at 500 miles an hour. Where's my oxygen mask? Ahh, there, all better. What's on TV?

The reason I don't believe that this is manufactured is that they are NOT capitalizing on it.  No enhanced security procedures at the airport, no military boarder patrols, no politicians proclaiming "the loss of freedom required in these dark times are necessary for the security of the nation", no travel restrictions or curfews, etc. etc.  All this leads me to believe that it is WAY more serious then we know about.  Absolutely nobody in the political world is picking up this lever, so if it is manufactured then this nations leaders are even more retarded then I suspected - and let me tell you my bar isn't that high.

If the goal is to rule by fear & instilling a need for dependence, why would they nip the fear in the bud?

I mentioned this earlier.  There are no small crises any more.  Why is that?

Because small crises are ALLOWED or ENCOURAGED to spiral out of control, until the public CLAMORS for the desired reaction (in this case, mandatory vaccinations, my guess).

My thoughts exactly, maybe even with check points on roads asking for proof of vaccinations.

I compare it to Fukushima for a reference.  This is in the press, Fukushima somehow does not exist (whilst it's quietly wiping out life in the Pacific).

I think we'll see the statist boot going in pretty soon on this one.

Give it time - the flock needs to get panicky before the draconian `tmporary` measures are implemented. When the time comes each anouncement will be made with the caveat the `nobody could have seen this coming`

Our loss of freedoms and property will as ever be for our own good. But not yet, the pot of frogs is barely luke warm.

What? NATO boots now on the ground in a region that was poised to produce massive amounts of iron ore, oil, and gold for China while the "awake" in the West were screaming about EBOW-LAA. Additional IMF loans to "infected areas" approved. Mandatory health screening at airports is now being implemented and five whole YellenBuxx says it won't be leaving us after this "pandemic." Forced (or at least "highly recommended") vaccination/treatment is right around the corner.

...just to play Devil's Advocate. Maybe this is legitimate, but I suspect they've just gotten a bit smarter about how seizure of Liberty is rolled out, i.e. "having our contingency plans in place ahead of crises is too suspicious now."

The reason I can make that they would wait to bring down the iron fist is you need it to spread further and have a higher death toll before people are willing to give up everything for government protection.

I bet they wait till almost every state has an infected before they bring down the nazi boots, and by then you'll be considered a loon for not stepping in line with the program.

Agree. That should have been the 'Plan' about a month ago, imo. I guess TPTB were unable to come up with that idea. 'Buy the tickets 21 days in advance or NOT leave your country/not come to USA', anyway.

Rev. JJ and Rev. Al wouldn't like that, would they? No.  They'd like it in Ferguson soon tho.

That would just lead to corrupt gatekeepers selling blackmarket access to plane rides out of there, more regulations always creates more corruption.
