CDC Explains Why 3-Out-Of-4 US Nurses Feel Unprepared For Ebola - Live Feed

Tyler Durden's picture

With three out of four nurses say their hospital hasn't provided sufficient education for them on Ebola, according to a survey by the largest professional association of registered nurses in the United States, it seems the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has decided its time to tamp down some more public fears over the contagiousness of this deadly disease... The CDC will provide an update on the response to the second U.S. Ebola diagnosis - the Dallas nurse who was infected while caring for a Liberian national in her hospital (supposedly due to her 'protocol breach')...

CDC Press Conference is due to start at 1200ET...

Suspected Ebola carrier wrapped in plastic after Czech police seal off rail station

Czech police and hazmat suit-wearing doctors have seized a traveler from Ghana at Prague’s main railway station. The man, suspected of suffering from the Ebola virus, was wrapped in black plastic by the authorities and taken away.

Remember: We live in an age where repeal of the Smith-Mundt Act of 1948 allows for outright propaganda of the American people by the American Government because of repeal by the NDAA 2013.

Why no pictures of bleeding ebola patients ANYWHERE? This is a horrible disease which late in stages causes bloody vomit, diarrhea and profuse bleeding from the eyes and ears. But not a single pic of it anywhere? Especially on the "news" channels showing "late stage" patients walking around appearing quite healthy. Not even sweating? We have no problem showing kids getting their head blown off in Gaza, but Ebola, ISIL beheadings and Sandy Hook 911 calls are too gruesome. Think about that for a moment.

This is the greatest Psy-Op in history.

For a more in depth look at how the repeal of Smith-Mundt actually works in targeting the American population with USGOV propaganda go to the 59 minute mark of this podcast

Comment from someone who is on the front lines:

"I was looking at what my hospital posted yesterday about how to protect ourselves if we had an Ebola patient. Mind you, I'm also at a level one trauma ICU, and am used to different types of isolation. I was getting over whelmed by the if this then's, and at a minimum but not more than this. If I were the nurse, I would expect someone to stand there and watch me, because I am terrified that I would screw it up! We don't get training, we get memo's! They need to go to the few hospitals around the country who have actual training in this.
I don't know what happened, but IF I had to speculate, this man needed CPR a few times before they called him dead. Those are the times, when fluids fly everywhere! Ribs get cracked, we get blood on us spewing out from the mouth, stool poring out. And I'm not even talking about a patient with a hemorrhagic virus. Trauma patients tend to bleed more than they should too. Its a mess! AND he was on CRRT! (continuous dialysis) talk about blood bath! everyone gets sprayed when a patient codes and you need to emergently unhook that thing."

We don't get training, we get memo's!

If they were stupid enough to code him, they shouldn't complain about catching it.  Actions have consequences.  In this case, those consequences can be very, very real.

Same would apply to CRRT.

If you blindly follow protocols, on the front line, this thing will get you.  The malcontents who say "fuck you" to procedure stand the best chance of staying disease-free.  Reminds me of "over the top" on the Western Front in WWI.  Thousands of men walking blindly into heavy machine gun fire, because they got told to.

Next time it comes up, ask yourself a simple question: "would the PPE I am supplied be considered sufficient if this was in a Level IV biocontainment lab, rather than a hospital".  If the answer is no (Hint: it will be ) then don't go anywhere near the poor bastard.

whether it was originally designed to spread like the mythical 'captain trips', I can't say.  All i can say is that ebola, if it is real at all, is not nearly as virulent as the mass media is leading people to believe.  nor is it as infectious.  someone is going through great lengths to create the appearance that the world is on the verge of a massive ebola outbreak, but careful scrutiny reveals that this is largely hype, no substance.  a few cases faked in the west is more than enough to spread massive fear and panic... meanwhile, in africa, the disease is not widespread.  a few hoax stories released to fan the flames, but no real substance.  if the disease was nearly as deadly or infectious as they would like you to believe, africa would have hundreds of thousdands dead and dying right now.  but it is not happening.  isolated incidents that would be easy to fake, or simulate, with agents such as formaldehyde spiked in water supplies.

massive mind control at work imho.   but time will tell.  if Africa is not ravaged by hundreds of thousands of people dead and dying in the near future, you know this is a fake outbreak.  all we need is charles jaco in front of the green sceen to round out this bullshit...   the real question is, if ebola is the fear based distraction, what are tptb trying to hide....

I appreciate the explanation.  I happen to agree that the threat of this is overblown and the lethality has not been demonstrated to hold up in a first world environment.

I think that if it was as easy to spread as they want us to believe, most of Liberia would be dead, certainly West Point would be a rotting open air cemetary.  From the videos I have seen, the only protocols are to spray down stuff with bleach (which is effective) but there are no other controls going on, at least none that would prevent contamination.

It's treating septic shock.  Which can be as simple or as complex as you and your resources desire.

Surprise, in the USSA it's complex.  Because health insurance rewards complex interventions.  When the pt is obviously pretty well beyond help, that's when we like to get really complex.   Things like the above-mentioned continuous hemodialysis.

That will change, once sufficient healthcare workers catch it and die, which is inevitable using that approach.  Then it'll go back to gatorade and asprin.  Maybe a little incense.  The trick for providers will be to survive the intitial nonsense.

Must say, as a front-line provider the ZH forums are really helping me figure out how I should handle this personally.  Talking to professional colleagues, not so much.  There's a message in that somewhere.

Edit: thanks to all contributing knowledge and plain old common sense here.

Frieden, like Chertoff, is here to explain why we're ALL safer in the Tribes warm, reassuring hands.

Bringing in the danger, and then keeping us safe-!

"As we waited for our flight, we sat on the floor next to the boarding gate. What I witnessed while sitting there and subsequent events have changed my life forever. While I sat there, I witnessed Umar dressed in jeans and a white t-shirt, being escorted around security by a man in a tan suit who spoke perfect American English and who aided Umar in boarding without a passport. The airline gate worker initially refused Umar boarding until the man in the tan suit intervened. The event meant nothing to me at the time. Little did I know that Umar would try to kill me a few hours later as our flight approached Detroit. The final 10 minutes of our flight after the attack were the worst minutes of my life. During those 10 minutes I sat paralyzed in fear. Unfortunately, what happened next has had an even greater impact on my life and has saddened me further. When we landed, I was shocked that our plane taxied up to the gate. I was further shocked that we were forced to sit on the plane for 20 minutes with powder from the so called bomb all over the cabin. The officers that boarded the plane did nothing to ensure our safety and did not check for accomplices or other explosive devices."

Yup, keepin' us safe.

That is some shaky ass reasoning there.

Diamonds?  Hard clear rocks?  Rocks which have been under the control of De Beers (Rothschilds) for 100 years?

Why would they want to go in to SL and INCREASE the diamond production? There is already a glut.

Maybe if they said we want to go in there to break the cartel I would entertain it. Or to go in there and STOP production.

And Africans kicking out the Red Cross due to the Red Cross injecting them with Ebola?

That is a big leap there.  Common sense would dictate that sick people go to clinics and get treated.  Some get better, some do not.  And Africans are not the brighest lot.  Why not blame the guy who said he would cure you?

And stealing oil?  Why didn't we steal Iraq's oil?  Because the issue about oil is not about stealing it, it is about keeping in priced in and traded for $$$.

NIH waste:

Why Fruit Flies Fall in Love: The National Institutes of Health spent $939,771 on research that has discovered male fruit flies are more sexually attracted to younger female fruit flies. “Video of the encounter,” the scientists wrote, “showed that the male was much more attracted to the young fly.”

Mood-Enhancing Reruns: The NIH squandered another $666,905 for a study into why people enjoy watching re-runs of old TV shows like Seinfeld. “There is something special and comfortable about a “relationship’ in which you already know what the other person is going to say and do,” the study’s lead investigator wrote.

I haven't taken the survey, but I can tell you that at this point we do not feel prepared to care for ebola patients. In fact our hospital has not come out with any information whatsoever. We are simply plodding along with all the senseless BS paperwork and routine they have dumped on us especially over the last two years of aca.

But speaking to my co-workers it appears likely we will use some time off if this ebola lands on our doorsteps. Not that we don't care but that we care more for our own as well as our families health not to expose them to this while we are unprepared.

So the hospitals attitude is it wont happen here.

"I cannot fully explain my sadness, disappointment and fear when I realized that my government allowed an attack on me intentionally. During this time, I questioned if my country intentionally put a known terrorist onto my flight with a live bomb. I had many sleepless nights over this issue. My answer came shortly thereafter. In late 2010, the FBI admitted to giving out intentionally defective bombs to the Portland Christmas Tree Bomber, the Wrigley Field Bomber and several others."

I do see the Liberian 'body removal workers' with their mud boots, kitchen gloves, plastic bags and duct tape - and they appear to be exposed cumulatively to vast quantities of highly infected materials.  Why are they not all sick/dead? The one thing I see them doing frequently in photos is getting sprayed down with heavily chlorinated water. There isn't an equivalent complete disinfection step prior to PPE removal in our protocols, is there? Maybe we need a 'spraydown' room prior to protective gear removal?

Or maybe it is not as contagious as previously thought?
Or maybe the protocols followed over there are actually more effective? (bleach versus barrier)

At this point who the hell knows, but the transmission of it is nowhere near airborne like as commonly accepted.  There are whole groups of people standing outside these "hospitals" waiting.  A woman (supposedly infected) even wandered out and was 10 feet from them.
Couple that with an ambulance holding 8 people in it, cars with sick people pulling up and the basic sanitation of Haiti with bleach and you would think there would be hundreds of thousands of deaths there at this time.

Could still be expanding exponentially though. But even if it is, it is tough to extrapolate that out a year with no change in rates.

The "avoid panic at all costs" line out of Washington is falling flat on its face, as I expected that it would.  Hospital workers are not idiots.  They are trained professionals, and they know what they are dealing with.  This situation requires a calm and serious address to the nations healthcare workers: honest as to the extent of the threat, sincere in the attempt to provide support to staff, and grateful for their assistance and cooperation.  You will not get this from Washington, and unfortunately, in my experience, you are unlikely to get this from your local hospital administration.  The threat demands leadership at least at the local level, and there are few real leaders in healthcare, because like most businesses, it is run by bean counters, yes-men, and sycophants.  I am truly sorry for all of you.

Agreed. Asking Tom Frieden to care for an Ebola patient here (direct contact) using the "PPE-lite" (not hermetically sealed, no independent motorized respirator beltpack), would indicate quickly how confident he really is. There are two nurses in question, one, the female nurse tested positive, another male nurse is "under observation".

Both took care of Duncan when he was first admitted, before they got the full gumby suits. They just wore normal gloves, mask, face shield, and over garments.

This is what is recommended by the CDC, but it is not enough, such microscopic amounts of bodily fluid is all that is required to transmit the virus, and it can live for days outside of the body.

These nurses did everything right, The hospital was simply not prepared. They did not have the correct gear, and these nurses are the ones who are going to pay for it."

That is exactly what I said in earlier comments when Frieden first appeared on the tele.  The CDC was, has been, and continues to downplay this threat.  I said at the time that to do so was "criminally negligent."  Now you see why.  In my opinion, he has committed involuntary manslaughter on this poor nurse.  How many more will die to this incompetence?  That number could be hundreds of thousands, or even more.

The protocol was not breeched. In fact, it was never applied. There are specific protocols to handle a BSL 4 agent like Ebola. It can only be dealt with safely in a biohazard level 4 lab where decontamination is assured. No one walking around in a hazmat suit is safe because it must be decontaminated by others to exit it safely.

I work in a BSL level 2 lab as most USA hospitals. There is NO WAY I can handle this agent safely no matter how careful I am. That some one is asking me to do so is criminal.

If you want me to deal with ebola, I'm not going to pay attention to what biohazard level it is and I'm just going to assume that something has changed and we don't know how virulent it really is anymore, and just assume the worst.  That means a hermetically sealed suit with its own air supply that gets drenched in something that will kill the shit out of ebola before taking it off.
