Who Said It: "Obama Has Emerged As One Of The Most Successful Presidents In American History"

Tyler Durden's picture

None other than Paul Krugman - the Nobel Prize-winning economist - once one of the president’s most notable critics, explains why Obama is a historic success...

Excerpted from Rolling Stone (read full Op-Ed here),

Obama faces trash talk left, right and center – literally – and doesn't deserve it.

Despite bitter opposition, despite having come close to self-inflicted disaster, Obama has emerged as one of the most consequential and, yes, successful presidents in American history. His health reform is imperfect but still a huge step forward – and it's working better than anyone expected. Financial reform fell far short of what should have happened, but it's much more effective than you'd think. Economic management has been half-crippled by Republican obstruction, but has nonetheless been much better than in other advanced countries. And environmental policy is starting to look like it could be a major legacy.

...

Yes, Obama has a low approval rating compared with earlier presidents. But there are a number of reasons to believe that presidential approval doesn't mean the same thing that it used to.

...

A constant of his time in office is the onslaught from the right, which has never stopped portraying him as an Islamic atheist Marxist Kenyan. Nothing has changed on that front, and nothing will.

Finally, there's the constant belittling of Obama from mainstream pundits and talking heads.

...

Am I damning with faint praise? Not at all. This is what a successful presidency looks like. No president gets to do everything his supporters expected him to. FDR left behind a reformed nation, but one in which the wealthy retained a lot of power and privilege. On the other side, for all his anti-government rhetoric, Reagan left the core institutions of the New Deal and the Great Society in place. I don't care about the fact that Obama hasn't lived up to the golden dreams of 2008, and I care even less about his approval rating. I do care that he has, when all is said and done, achieved a lot. That is, as Joe Biden didn't quite say, a big deal.

That poll about his "failed presidency" is incorrect. He is an absolute success as it relates to Saul Alinsky, Cloward and Piven, etc.

America is a big machine, it takes a few years to break it.

What is success when we speak of a president? That is the question. I think you must look at Mr. Bush and Mr. Obama not as presidents of different parties with vastly different interest groups and policy goals behind them. But as an example of how the "deep state" and America's elite 1% work together to rule this nation with an Iron Fist abroad and a velvet gloved Iron Fist at home.

Nobody can argue that Obama stuck it too the rich, screwed over the pentagon, controlled the CIA and NSA. Nobody can say the 1% of bankers and wall-streeters didn't enjoy one of the greatest equity bubbles in histroy, all manipulated by the Fed's zirp and money printing. Nobody can argue that Obama acted to enpower labor, wages are down for most, the lucky ones are stagnant. Papered over by false figures and a controlled media.

Mr. Bush, he set a policy agenda that built upon the Clinton deregulation era, Clinton layed the bricks, and Bush finished the structure of elite based government. Both presidents have sent the empire to war all over the world, and both have given powers to CIA and NSA to treat every American as an enemy of the state.

When push comes to shove, the great difference of the parties is once again fringe social issues that get lip service from Obama for some liberal social issues, while Mr. Bush gave lip service to conservative social issues. BOTH men maintained the Open Borders policy. That is fact. Both took part in setting in motion a totally out of control police state.

Was Bush a success? In a sense yes, but he left the job totally unfinished, with house bubble bust, banking crisis and two unsettled wars. Enter Obama. He set the Fed's task as bailing out all elites and bankers. Done! He set about trying to expand empire while winding up the Iraq war to free up troops for a war on Iran. Obama has gone one step further than even Bush, he has declared war on Russia, and has launched a proxy war against them in East Ukraine.

Success? YES! He got the rich richer than ever in history. He made CIA and NSA more powerful than ever in History. He has launched more proxy wars than Bush. Look at the stock market ticker for military, prison, spy, and defense contractors. These were a good place to be long. I give Bush a high mark, but an incomplete! Obama gets a high mark, but incomplete. THUS, Americans military industrial spy elites and bankers need a new president to finish the job of ending American democracy once and for all. So BE fucking Ware! Clinton, the bitch, or some republican just like her is going to be elected with a liar media and fake vote counting, and we will live to regret the next president of the USA. Whoever fills the chair for our rulers is going to finish the works of Bush/Obama, and it will crush us all for good.

It's a contradiction to declare actual citizens enemies of the State. We appear to have been declared "enemy combatants"...which is even more terrifying...but there is no way any of us here are "enemies of the State."

+100.  Success can only be judged in terms of what the subject set out to achieve. Maybe, just maybe, Obama had some good intentions initially but with a graveyard full of skeletons in his particular cupboard he was and is putty in the hands of the Permanent Rulers.

Things sure are well messed up alright.  That is a major achievement.

France is in the toilet and Obama is heading us in the same direction.  Hollande has a bad approval rating too, worse than Obama.

Sorry for going off topic. This is important ecnomic news and I can't find a home for it on ZH, as Ukraine is now off the topic list due to partial cease fire. Yet, the real story is the economy of Ukraine, and winter will be all about the economy! So it begins below!

" the Kiev local government may default on repayment of bonds priced at 1.125 billion US$. The credit rating agency Fitch has already downgraded Kiev to CCC status (Ukraine itself is rated BBB). If the bonds are not repaid by 9 October, Kiev will be downgraded to D, a state of technical default."

Not to be a party killer but the 'problems' with the White House proffered birth certificate are still lingering like a stale fart. We are not to bring this up I know because those who do are just crazy people who are trying to make trouble but it  is still out there and has never been resolved.

It is clear we are now in a time of great turmoil and until that passes we can only pretend to ask questions and pretend to understand the answers given. Things are so bad that we simply cannot ask for the truth because the truth is so horrible that we would wished we had never asked. So for now we all must pretend. We must only ask questions that can be answered with fantasy and we can't press for answers to the real problems that would have, in the past, been considered evidence. That would cause everything to fall apart.

Things will fall apart but they must do so naturally so that no one important can be blamed.

He's not useless. He, like everyone else, is just trying to seek a profit from the on going intervention by government and banks which destroys profit in the private sector so he has to go to what is or could show yield.

Why do you think people trade bonds, treasuries, fx, cds, mbs and so on.  Those aren't businesses or industries that are profitable. Its governments/banks trying to manipulate the system to guide the money where they want it to go not free people.

When he says that its not his choice its due to the only choice is to play in the only arena that has any ability to find some kind of profit.

I will agree he walked into a trash can of problems already there but there was more trash created by all means.  It has a lot to do with his choice of cabinet members big time and that's sad.  Right now with Ebola all the government folks, Congress included, are being brought to their knees to get out of their virtual worlds and come back to the real world.

People cannot separate real world values from  the virtual values and it's a big problem.  That's why we have all this broken modeled software pushed at us that won't work as people don't work that way,  Bigl gulp always come to mind when speaking broken models and look what hell Bloomberg put everyone through on a broken model that would not work in the real world.  He didn't know when to stop and kept using his money and influence to keep pushing a broken model, and there's more of that out there we all know.

I revile him and all who adore him, but Obama is one of the most consequential Presidents in US history.  If you understand that, you'll be faced with your own complicity in the final phase of destruction for this fleeting Republic.

Could not pass this up.  He receives an "A+", if Success is measured by playing more than 200 golf outings, spending $1.5 billion annually on his luxorious life style at taxpayer expense, not working (missing 60% of intel briefings and eating dinner with the wife and kids every evening), destroying our military, murdering the middle class, doubling the Public Debt, seeing the National Debt grow by at least $1 trillion in 5 of his 6 calender years in office, increasing food stamp recepients to 46 million or more for the past 3 years, creating a U.S. poverty rate above 15% for the past 3 years, having the NSA spy on all Americans with not one terrorist being captured due to it, increasing the premiums of those who pay for health coverage by 100% or more, doubling student loan debt guaranteed by the government, seeing 75% of U.S. military deaths in Afghanastan occurring on his watch, and accomplishing pretty much nothing.  Even Jimmy Carter says he is doing badly and that is really the pot calling the kettle black as the old saying goes.  Saul Alinsky would be so proud.  May God bless Amkerica and get us through the next two years.

Obama is certainly NOT a natural born Citizen, eligible for POTUS, since he was born BRITISH of a British subject father.

:"The Constitution does not in words say who shall be natural-born citizens. Resort must be had elsewhere to ascertain that. At common law, with the nomenclature of which the framers of the Constitution were familiar, it was never doubted that all children born in a country of parents who were its citizens became themselves, upon their birth, citizens also. These were natives or natural-born citizens, as distinguished from aliens or foreigners." Minor v. Happersett, 88 US 162, 167 (1875)

The "Common Law" is law of nations, i.e natural law (See Sosa v. Alvarez (2004)), and the law of nations is embedded in the Constitution itself and defines "natural born Citizen" as one born in a country of parents who are citizens of that country (See Vattel, "Law of Nations" Bk. 1 Ch. 212).

Obama even told us he was not eligible by the title of his book "Dreams From My Father", since Barack Obama Sr. was an "improper ascendant", i.e improper inflience of a foreign father (See Federalist 68).

It was done on purpose to void the US Const., since when the executor of the laws is an illegal entity, then there is no law.
