CDC Demands 132 Passengers That Flew With 2nd Ebola Patient Report For Testing

Tyler Durden's picture

But, but, but they said it wasn't contagious unless you came into contact with bodily fluids. According to the CDC, the 2nd health-care worker infected with Ebola traveled on Frontier Flight 1143 from Cleveland to Dallas on October 13th and are asking all 132 passengers on the flight to get tested. One question... what about the thousands of people that those 132 passengers came in contact with in the last 2 days?

  • NEW TEXAS EBOLA PATIENT FLEW DOMESTICALLY NIGHT BEFORE FEVER APPEARED -- CDC

Via Bloomberg,

Second health-care worker with Ebola traveled on Frontier flight 1143 from Cleveland to Dallas on Oct. 13, CDC says in e-mailed statement.

CDC asking 132 passengers on flight to call 1-800-CDC-INFO, plan to begin interviewing passengers about flight, monitoring those who need it

Health-care worker exhibited no signs, symptoms of illness while on flight, according to crew

Frontier Airlines Statement

“At approximately 1:00 a.m. MT on October 15, Frontier was notified by the CDC that a customer traveling on Frontier Airlines flight 1143 Cleveland to Dallas/Fort Worth on Oct. 13 has since tested positive for the Ebola virus. The flight landed in Dallas/Fort Worth at 8:16 p.m. local and remained overnight at the airport having completed its flying for the day at which point the aircraft received a thorough cleaning per our normal procedures which is consistent with CDC guidelines prior to returning to service the next day. It was also cleaned again in Cleveland last night. Previously the customer had traveled from Dallas Fort Worth to Cleveland on Frontier flight 1142 on October 10.

Customer exhibited no symptoms or sign of illness while on flight 1143, according to the crew. Frontier responded immediately upon notification from the CDC by removing the aircraft from service and is working closely with CDC to identify and contact customers who may traveled on flight 1143.

Customers who may have traveled on either flight should contact CDC at 1 800 CDC-INFO.

The safety and security of our customers and employees is our primary concern. Frontier will continue to work closely with CDC and other governmental agencies to ensure proper protocols and procedures are being followed.”

Hospitals and health-care companies in the USA are now owned by Big Medical Corporations, which are owned by whoever buys their stock on Wall Street, and since only 1/3 of the investment money floating around in the world comes from North America, I can imagine that Big Medical Corporations are run with less concern about what happens to Americans than about what profits are generated.  The same situation that has made Americans pay twice as much for health care as citizens of most of the "developed world", and that has kept nurses chronically underpaid, now shows its difficulty dealing with a genuine health emergency until - presumably - the end of the financial quarter and payment of quarterly dividends and bonuses.  (Promised the wife a new Rolls for Christmas).  Perhaps we will see now whether the hospitals in the "socialist" countries of Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and yes even, Russia, do better.  Ebola is a test which has begun, and the clock, as they say, is ticking.

New reports suggest that the Ebola patient fell asleep and dreweled on the seat and pillow that the flight attendant picked up.

And the next person in that seat probably did touch the arm rest that her sweaty hands had touched already.

These same reports suggest that the styrofoam cup that the Ebola patient put thier lips to and drank from, and then was handled by another flight attendant.

I posted before and I will say again, Friedan and these CDC folks do not talk like medical people. They talk in platitudes and certainties and not like medical people who will talk in probabilities and differentiate between what they know and what they think and what they think they know. I attended an immunology lecture last night on peanut allergy exposures and the level of dangers from someone highly sensitive. Microscopic particles were discussed on everything from peanut dust to residue on wooden tables versus granite tops. Then the flip side was what level of exposure causes a reaction.

As I am sitting in the lecture I am thinking about ebola and how there is very little known about these sorts of things. I think most of what political hack Friedan tells us is conjecture and wishful thinking. He should be saying things more along the lines, "It seems to be necessary to have direct contact with an infected person...but we are not 100% sure." and "A person seems to shed contagious level virus within 24 hours of having a fever as the first syptom." and "The virus appears to live outside the body for X amount of time in some aqueous environment."

We should have also seen before and after testing of the apartment to see if there was live virus before the clean up crew went in and then after to see if the cleaning methods worked (presuming live virus was present). If live virus was detected they should have been checking other vectors to see if insects were carrying it, everything from common bed bugs to mosquitos in the area. Was there a family pet? There is evidence that dogs that like to lick your kids faces can carry it.  This is what real scientists do. It is not what political hacks do.

Even in hospitals there are nosocomial infections that get past all the sterilization procedures and equipment. It is quite common, actually, probably about 3-5% nationally. So, given a relatively new virus with minimal testing you overprepare and treat it as the highest possible level threat.

What bothers me about testing all the passengers on the plane is that they are A. Admitting it might be airborne, or B. Admitting they do not know exactly when someone becomes contagious, and C. Admitting they are not so sure how it is spread. Precisely the points I make in my first paragraph.

So, today I expect another TV appearance and some extra time on the golf course as the first reaction from our fearless leader.

When Obama was reelected, the full force of his campaign was knocking down his administration’s image of lack of control from Afghanistan to Iraq and to the IRS.

This appearance of lack of control is a huge danger to the Democrats in the mid-term elections. And the CDC director had his instructions: We can handle whatever comes, we are in control. This mishap was not our fault.

But it backfired because the country literally became ballistic when the CDC, to deflect responsibility, blamed the victim and the hospital staff for not following “protocol” and with each succeeding press conference, the credibility of the CDC (and the Obama administration) continues to decline.

And the reason is they are pretending they have the situation under control and they don’t. And the public knows it.

Frankly, I’ve never seen the country turn on the DC bureaucracy like this.

So there were more than 70 nurses that looked after Duncan.

Today their representatives said:

* Glove openings were not taped shut on protective suits, exposing wrists and hands to exposure

* Protective clothing did not cover necks, exposing skin between the collar and the bottom of the face shield

* To cover their necks, nurses were told to use tape that does not block the virus

* Some supervisors told nurses that face masks were not required at all when caring for Duncan

If this is true, then it's way beyond ignorance or stupidity, it's attempted murder.

Things are going to get far worse if these claims are true. Every single one of them should be in quarantine NOW.

When I was an ER nurses, the hosptial practiced "just in time" cost control  supplies, keeping the lowest inventory possible of basic items. Often we had to borrow IV solutions from paramedics to get us through the night.  We were a Level 2 trauma center.

This is all about incompetence, big business, profits and crony government morons running things.  They are educated way beyond their intelligence.

The hospitals have cut back hiring the well trained nurses, who understand the principles of contamination. They are  being replaced by "techs" who don't have even the basic biology training to know why protocols are put into place, taking short cuts whenever possible because of the work load.

I don't think people understand how thin the red line is at this point.

The continuity of gov appartus is quite real, Alex Jones aside. How many cases would it take before that plan is put into action and the MIC starts running that Cabinet level meeting?

Would we even know?

We wouldn't know.

They know far more about how this is spreading than we know right now.  Although, they are probably learning by the minute.

As the president is canceling plans to talk about this, USAMRIID is probably taking over as we speak.

One of the oldest simulations that many first year computer science programmers learn to model and program is disease spread. When I taught it many years ago one of the best math series to use in the disease spread model was the Fibonacci sequence of 0,1,1,2,3,5,8,13,34,55,89,144,… We are now at the second Ebola victim, one (1), in the Fibonacci sequence of this series. What I remember from the written discussion of this model is if you reach five (5) Ebola victims in the series watch out…

The one thing about Ebola that is better than other infections is that it cannot be transmitted until the infected person is showing symptoms.

In this article they ask what about the thousands of people the 137 passengers came in contact with since the flight.

Those people are not at risk unless by some bizarre turn of events, the 137 passengers had the patient's infected bodily fluids on them and other people came into direct contact with those bodily fluids.

The bodily fluids of the 137 cannot transmit the disease until they show symptoms which typically takes anywhere from 6 to 21 days.

This is still insane, but let's keep the information accurate.

NoWayJose's picture

Are you believing what CDC says (need contact with bodily fluids) or what they are doing (testing anyone with even casual contact)?

Are you believing what CDC says (6-21 day period before symptoms) or what they actually say (95% are within the 6-21 day window -- meaning that 1 in 20 Ebola patients is OUTSIDE the CDC timeline!)

Are you believing what CDC says (our protocols are fool-proof) or what they actually do (which is now re-evaluate the protocols)

Are you believing what CDC said (Ebola is not a threat in the US) or what they actually do (assemble crash teams to go to any hospital with an Ebola patient).

nature does all sorts of things that its not supposed to do.  in a sense "ebola" is an amorphouse entity.  every time it replicates it tries many new variations of itself.  i think it even combines with other viruses in the host.  i don't know unwaveringly what it can and can't do.  i do know that quarantine has stopped it in the past.

In the Klaus Kinski, Werner Herzog movie "Cobra Verde", Kinski's character goes to Africa to buy slaves to ship to Brazil.  Someone asks him "what will become of them"?  Kinski's character answers "they will become our murderers".

So is Liberia the country the USA helped create in a dream of sending ex-slaves back to Africa?  And now, perhaps, a descendant of one of them has come back, and may have spread a disease in the USA, and thus become "our murderer", so that, after all these years, perhaps Kinski's character will finally be right.

A demand is a request not an order

They don't have jurisdiction to order anything

So they are bluffing to see how many people will obey

And if the airlines truly believe

"The safety and security of our customers and employees is our primary concern. Frontier will continue to work closely with CDC and other governmental agencies to ensure proper protocols and procedures are being followed.”

Then why do they continue to fail to adequately screen their passengers prior to boarding when they know that the government agencies responsible have been continually willfully negligent in their duties through this event?

This quoted claim does not alleviate airlines of their liability. If Ebola is as mysterious and undetectable as they appear to imply and they can't screen people effectively then they need to shut down. This would prove their quoted claim above.

Right.  Thanks for that reminder.  Lawyers sometimes make "demands" at events such as City Commission rezoning hearings, but City Commissions often reject those demands.

"...what about the thousands of people that those 132 passengers came in contact with in the last 2 days?"

What about them indeed? And what about the thousands that those 132 came in contact with since then? And on and on.

The handling of this has been ham-handed and unprofessional at best, criminal at worst.

That's what happens when government agencies make stupid decisions. When is that? When they make decisions.

Everyone whose name has been connected with denials, obfuscations, and other uninformed comments about ebola should resign of be forced to resign... and without benefits, please, as the looming costs for "fixing" this precludes paying benefits to bozos.

How many people have died in Africa? How many now die in auto crashes in this country? Hunker down, folks, the hobgoblins are everywhere, help us FEMA, save us Homeland Security, woe is me, woe is you, woe is everyfuckingbody.

I'll start worrying when the body count hits a thousand a week. Meanwhile, I'm driving my auto to travel while the parasitic government jacks everybody off and scares the lemmings over the cliffs.

Unfortunately, the front line decent people will die while the coiffed parasites in the $2,000 suits in DC will keep their honey holes greased.
