Did Obama Just Raise The Ebola Threat Level?

Tyler Durden's picture

4 weeks ago this is what President Obama said "the chances of an Ebola outbreak here in the United States are extremely low."

Today, having reassured Americans that "Ebola is not like the flu, it's not airborne," (despite experts' concerns that Ebola could indeed be aerogenically transmitted) Obama stated that a "widespread outbreak of Ebola in the US is 'unlikely'"

From "Extremely Low" to "Unlikely"... in a month.

Additional points:

 • *OBAMA SAYS CDC TO DEPLOY RAPID RESPONSE TEAMS FOR EBOLA
 • *OBAMA SAYS LOCAL HOSPITALS NEED TRAINING ON EBOLA PROTOCOLS
 • *OBAMA SAYS EBOLA `NOT LIKE THE FLU,' ISN'T AIRBORNE
 • *OBAMA SAYS WIDESPREAD OUTBREAK OF EBOLA IN U.S. `UNLIKELY'

whatever he might be doing now...we all need to remember what he did back in August:

Obama Signs Executive Order to Allow Detention of Americans With ‘Respiratory Illnesses’

http://www.infowars.com/obama-signs-executive-order-to-detain-americans-with-respiratory-illnesses/

There's a very specific reason why obama's puppeteers made him do this.  And remember...there are no coincidences in politics or the with the nefarious scum who occupy the political arena.

"As the Ebola outbreak continues to cause concern, President Barack Obama has signed an amendment to an executive order that would allow him to mandate the apprehension and detention of Americans who merely show signs of “respiratory illness.”..."The executive order, titled Revised List of Quarantinable Communicable Diseases, amends executive order 13295, passed by George W. Bush in April 2003, which allows for the, “apprehension, detention, or conditional release of individuals to prevent the introduction, transmission, or spread of suspected communicable diseases.”

The amendment signed by Obama replaces subsection (b) of the original Bush executive order which referred only to SARS. Obama’s amendment allows for the detention of Americans who display, “Severe acute respiratory syndromes, which are diseases that are associated with fever and signs and symptoms of pneumonia or other respiratory illness, are capable of being transmitted from person to person, and that either are causing, or have the potential to cause, a pandemic, or, upon infection, are highly likely to cause mortality or serious morbidity if not properly controlled.”

Although Ebola was listed on the original executive order signed by Bush, Obama’s amendment ensures that Americans who merely show signs of respiratory illness, with the exception of influenza, can be forcibly detained by medical authorities.

Although the quarantining of people suspected of being infected with the Ebola virus seems like a perfectly logical move, the actual preconditions for this to happen aren’t restricted to just those suffering from the disease.

As we highlighted earlier this week, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has measures in place for dealing with an outbreak of a communicable disease which allow for the quarantine of “well persons” who “do not show symptoms” of the disease.

In addition, under the Model State Emergency Health Powers Act, public health authorities and governors would be given expanded police powers to seize control of communications devices, public and private property, as well as a host of other draconian measures in the event of a public health emergency.

Yes, that flag should have been raised last month.  But, consider this headline:

*OBAMA SAYS CDC TO DEPLOY RAPID RESPONSE TEAMS FOR EBOLA

For the gubmint, 12 days is a rapid response.  The levels of bureaucracy that must be sifted through, the backroom deals that must be agreed upon, the crony contracts for supplies that must be arranged, none of this comes quickly.  So a "rapid response" from da gubmint is about as oxymoronic as the phrase "jumbo shrimp".

#Contained?!?!

Actually they just might deal with this much faster.  Not due to the fact that they feel a great urgency and need to save the population at large, but perhaps to FEMA camp as many peoples asses as quickly as possible under the auspices of protection.  Once they start tracking how many people have come in direct contact with an EBOLIZED patient, they'll probably disappear quite a few of them.  From their point of view perhaps the faster the better.  Remember Hazmat wearer in chief knows best.

World Health Organization says Ebola cases could reach 10,000 per week

By Andre Damon
15 October 2014

The number of new Ebola cases in Africa could grow as high as 10,000 per week, ten times higher than earlier estimates, according to projections the World Health Organization (WHO) reported Tuesday.

Dr. Bruce Aylward, who heads the WHO response to the crisis, said the public health organization now estimates the mortality rate in the countries affected by the outbreak—Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea—to be around 70 percent. Even though earlier statistics had shown a survival rate of around fifty percent, the UN-affiliated organization is now recording “at best 30 percent survival,” he said.

Aylward noted that the impact of the disease in the capitals of the three worst affected countries continue to increase. “Any sense that the great effort that’s been kicked off the last couple of months is already starting to see an impact, that would be really, really premature,” he warned.

even if it isn't, it's grossly irresponsible to downplay the transmission odds with something that can live outside the body for a while.  so it may not be airborne, but if you can sneeze or wipe your saliva on something, and then someone comes along 30 minutes later and touches the surface that you sneezed or spit on and infects themselves that way, what the hell is the functional difference?   Obama is acting like you have to pour your blood into someone else's throat in order to catch it.

Thus far the evidence is that it is aerosolized and not airborne. It's the difference between spreading like the flu (each patient infects 1-3 others) and the measles (which is truly airborne and each patient infects 15-20 others.)

If ebola ever becomes a truly airborne virus, the entire planet is fucked. It'll be bad enough as it stands.

Can all our fearless leaders demonstrate their confidence in their own structures, procedures, policies, etc. by putting on the hazmat suits and looking after the nurses in Dallas for a few days - particularly a few days late in the course of the disease where it's really messy?  I'd feel a lot more confident if they did that.

"Extremely unlikely" meanwhile we have potentially 200 infected people in the United States already and Ebola infested feces swirling around in the sewer.

Come on, obviously they are trying to spread Ebola in the USA to cause mass panic so they can do something crazy like suspend elections.

The fucking president has like a 30% approval rating, there should be systems in place that automatically ejection seat the president out of the white house if his approval rating gets that low.... what if his approval rating was 10%? or 1%??? get this fuckhead out of office already.

Anyone that wants to know what Ebola is and how it attacks the human body should read "The Hot Zone" by Richard Preston.

Those 70+ health care providers wouldn't have come within 50 feet of Duncan if they were armed with facts...for that matter, Level 4 biosafety trained experts wouldn't have entered that room with anything other than a pressure suit.

Here is the recent study of disease onset data and suggests 31 days. Apparently a large deciding factor is cost benefit. Regardless, an interesting read about the differences in statistical models.
http://currents.plos.org/outbreaks/article/on-the-quarantine-period-for-...
While the 21 day quarantine value currently used may have arose from reasonable interpretation of early outbreak data, this work suggests a reconsideration is in order and that 21 days may not be sufficiently protective to public health. Further, outbreaks such as the current West Africa EBOV are presenting an opportunity for careful collection of data sufficient to revise and update (perhaps in an adaptive fashion) such recommendations. It may be that incubation time itself is a function of intensity and nature of contact21, which may also need to be considered. The estimate of appropriate incubation time would need to explicitly consider the costs and benefits involved in various alternatives, which would incorporate explicit computations from transmission modeling.
A recent report from the WHO shows timeframe of disease onset. The graphs do show a few cases falling outside the base 21 day window, but 95% within that time period.
http://www.nejm.org/action/showImage?doi=10.1056%2FNEJMoa1411100&iid=f03

. WHO did note that time to onset of symptoms seems to have increased from previous outbreaks...very interesting stats.

the article discusses a two tier vaccination system.  the better vaccine to the political elite and military.  the more side effect prone vaccine to the general public.  but they would never do that in America?  Good to the point article.

These Ebola stricken patients should never be allowed inside a hospital and once it's determined they have Ebola they need to be removed and taken to a triage center where only Ebola patients are serviced. In no way should hospitals have to deal with this nonsense. In effectively quarantining Ebola we will need to take some drastic measures and this government is not up to it. Obama is over his head or he's just doesn't give a damn about your public safety and health. If this is not addressed properly some of these public hospitals could and will become uninhabitable because of the threat of the virus. Then what?

I wonder how in the hell anyone can take Obama seriously at this point in time.

Take the next 5 days and buy all the things you might need for 90 days of in-home vacation.

So that when the situation changes for the worst you won’t have to be in the stores, and if things get better, well you won’t have to go shopping for awhile.

Then it will be Christmas and you could give your over bought stuff as gifts.

My brother will get the Lima beans and canned hash.

4 weeks ago this is what President Obama said "the chances of an Ebola outbreak here in the United States are extremely low."

But one has already started. We have 2 confirmed cases so far.

So now he is telling us it probably won't become "widespread" (whatever that means).

What he didn't say: "Now leave me alone so I can get back to my golf game."
