So I want to know - why the fuck no one is talking about how both the US and Russia have had instances of Ebola infections in labs off and on since the virus first showed its potential in the 70's.

I've diligenced the difference, and I wouldn't be comfortable operating in an infectious environment with a run-of-the-mill N95 that you see Asians wear on their way to tai chi in park.
It's not the filter size, it's the fit. N95 is perfectly adequate for any virus. The issue with any mask is that air flow takes the path of least resistance, and if there is any gap at the edge of the mask the air will go around the filtration mechanism. N100 or 10000 might sound better, but it means there's more resistance for air to go through the filter, and therefore it will likely bypass around the sides.
If your life is on the line, vaseline gobs around your mouth and nose, then apply the N95.

and make sure you shave well though, so that your stubble interferes with the seal..
but don't shave too well, lest you provide a microscopic port-of-entry through your skin.
