Sorry France, The Bond Market Has Spoken: You Are Not In The "Core" Anymore

Tyler Durden's picture

What's French for 'sacre bleu'? While the fundamental reality of France's record unemployment, plunging industrial production and economic growth, and treaty-busting deficits are all fact, for many months now, the 'market' has been convinced at Draghi's omnipotence and enabled French bonds to trade as if they are 'in the core'. But... on the heels of Sapin's slap in the face of Schaeuble, shunning of Brussels, the market appears to be changing its mind about France's credit worthiness (risk is up over 30% in the last week). Across Europe, we are witnessing a 2012 replay as re-denomination risk rises and risk spreads between the periphery (which means everything but Germany) and Germany surge...

The market says "non" to the French...

And re-rates all of Europe as it seeks German safe-haven...

These are the biggest re-ratings of risk since the European financial crisis... get back to work Mr.Draghi!

France's Ebola import/export business is up...

Flight AF1300 departed from Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport on
Thursday morning and landed in the Spanish capital at 11:30am
local time.

The aircraft has been moved to a special zone of Barajas Airport
in compliance with established protocol.

The man with suspected Ebola symptoms traveled to Paris from
Nigerian capital of Lagos, the paper reports.

Why are they flagging people from Lagos, Nigeria?  I thought there was no more Ebola in Lagos. C'est vrai?  Non?

Vive la France!! It's so fucked up but, in a way, it's a shame because it is such a beautiful country. A very old way of life succumbing to US/UK Financialisation??

But, I guess, plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose. Oui??

“Yea ours dont wear panties, they wear thongs.”

I’ve always figured, if you’ve got it, flaunt it

..but lately, I am rethinking the wardrobe.

Do realize how hard it is for me to be inconspicuous and conceal carry a large frame?

Is that a 1911 in your codpiece or are you just happy to see me?  :-)

Not sure about Financialisation , whatever that is. (If you mean broad insolvency , then triple yes) , but we sure did fall into the great socialist dream , 30 years of corporate/state dirigisme mess ,ever rising taxes , middle class nightmare ,  soviet era administration , and world class political incompetance....

Americans compete amongst each other for income out of a (usually) nonshrinking pie.   The French compete amongst each other within their respective class designations for status, of which there is always a fixed sum.   The latter do a lot more mood helping drugs than the former, if you'd like to compare them on a happiness scale.  And the former have much preferable demographic problems and opportunities compared to a country on the bitter sad road of islamisation/arabisation.

What is the difference between a PANDEMIC and an EPIDEMIC?

A PANDEMIC is a widespread disease outbreak, meaning it is occurring in MANY places at the same time, even though the total number of cases may be very small. For example, HIV-AIDS, H1N1, Swine Flu, severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS in 2003) and Ebola (so far in 2014) are in many location throughout the world, but the NUMBER of cases is SMALL - and may remain small. All of the above-mentioned illnesses were pandemics, but NOT epidemics. For example, more people die of "regular flu" (the "common cold") each year than all of the causes above COMBINED. Government estimates of about 50,000 "regular flu" deaths per year are far too low, since people over 18 who die of the flu and people who die of flu complications are NOT included; plus the causes of death of many elderly people are misclassified  (e.g., heart failure; pneumonia).

An EPIDEMIC (usually caused by a highly infectious, easily transmitted agent - bacteria, virus, etc. using via respiration - that is, breathing) SPREADS RAPIDLY to many people, but often in a SMALL NUMBER of locations at first - then eventually spreading to most people world-wide, thereby becoming a pandemic-epidemic. By quarantine or early treatment, an epidemic may be contained to a small region - a country, a city/town, state, etc. - and thereby NOT become a true PANDEMIC. On the other hand, the 1918-1919 Influenza catastrophe (caused by a very virulent strain of the influenza virus) was a true epidemic than soon also became a pandemic (throughout the world). It is estimated that up to 40 million people died in those 2 years, apparently beginning with the soldiers in the World War 1 trenches, then to the rest of the populations, then across the globe. Therefore, it was an EPIDEMIC that became a PANDEMIC-EIPDEMIC. It is considered the worst epidemic in global history.

These terms are often used incorrectly by "journalists" and even physicians (who should know better!)

The MASS MEDIA always seem to "hype" these illnesses to attract more readers. The "Big Pharma" companies want the cash rolling in from vaccine sales. Governments use the hype to increase their control of their citizens - or by listening to "bureaucrat doctors" who have not seen a patient in 30 years. Medical researchers (in government, at private companies and even at universities) "go where the money is". Ten years ago if you were a physician-researcher, you could get FUNDING (which pays your salary and that of your entire staff) to study "The Speed at Which Monkeys Climb Trees" AS LONG AS YOU added "Due to Global Warming" in the title of your research proposal. I call it the "Disease of the Year Club".

Finally, BEWARE of headlines such as "disease X MAY become transmitted by air"; or "it is possible that . . .". People said that about HIV for years after it was known to NOT be true!

My best conclusion: Ebola appears to be spread by infected body fluids, but does NOT appear to be extremely infectious. The amount and duration of necessary contact is unknown. It appears to mutate very rarely. The ebola virus is PATENTED and its RNA sequencing is known. (No kidding!!!!  Check it out for yourself!) So, unless someone purposely alters its genetic sequence, my best guess is that it will infect some people who have had direct (and perhaps prolonged, multiple) contacts with those already infected and/or have a compromised immune system.

So, worry about something IMPORTANT - like your child's school grades or whatever.
