Ebola-Handling Healthcare Worker Currently On A Caribbean Cruise Ship

Tyler Durden's picture

It's almost as if the administration is doing everything in its power to spread a panic (come to think of it, when is the last time there was any Ukraine civil war coverage, or ISIS for that matter?).

While one of the big Ebola updates overnight, in addition to Obama being open to appointing an Ebola czar - because clearly the CDC is unable to handle the epidemic, best to have one on top of it all -is that some schools in Ohio and Texas are closed today after students’ potential exposure to a nurse with Ebola furthered fears of the disease spreading, this is nothing compared to the just released revelation that a health care worker who may have handled a specimen from the Liberian man who died from Ebola in Dallas is on a cruise ship in the Caribbean.

Just in case an Ebola-infected nurse traveling coach cross country doesn't do it?

From USA Today:

Industry giant Carnival says the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention notified it late Wednesday that a passenger on the Texas-based Carnival Magic was a lab supervisor at the Dallas hospital where Thomas Eric Duncan died from the disease earlier this month.

Carnival says the unnamed woman has been placed in isolation on the ship and has shown no signs of illness.

"At no point in time has the individual exhibited any symptoms or signs of infection, and it has been 19 days since she was in the lab with the testing samples," Carnival says in a statement sent to USA TODAY. "She is deemed by CDC to be very low risk."

The Carnival Magic is one of the largest cruise ships in the Caribbean with a capacity for more than 4,000 passengers. It sails with more than 1,000 crew members.

Carnival says it in close contact with the CDC, and "at this time it has been determined that the appropriate course of action is to simply keep the guest in isolation on board."

So here's hoping for the best. If, however, the worst case scenario unfolds, here is where the next Ebola hotspots may well be, deep inside Latin America:

The Carnival Magic is on a seven-night cruise to the Western Caribbean that began Oct. 12 in Galveston, Texas. The ship called at the island of Roatan, Honduras on Wednesday and Belize City, Belize on Thursday. It's scheduled to visit Cozumel, Mexico today and return to Galveston on Sunday morning.

Finally we get the Breaking Bad joke:

Belize's 7 News reports the Belize government refused a U.S. request Thursday to let the Dallas health care worker disembark in Belize so she could be flown home by air ambulance from a local airport.

How long until Americans, of which half already announced they would not fly international due to the ongoing Ebola scare, also decide to delay that holiday cruise until next year?

Ebola, frightening and new
Come Aboard. It's expecting you.
Ebola, life's harshest ordeal.
Your blood flows, it leaks out of you.
The Ebola Boat soon will be making another run
The Ebola Boat promises illness for everyone
Set a course for adventure,
Your ass on a fresh bedpan.
Ebola hurts even more,
With a heartless response from an unfriendly shore.
Yes Ebola! It's Ebola!

Surfup.  Great story, but formaldehyde is a gas at room temp.  It can be stored in water as a bottled liquid disinfectant, but with a melting point of negative 92 degrees celcius its unlikely this man was carrying "powder" formaldehyde.

Story in its entirety:

It does state the woman has no fever but exhibits "very mild ebola sysmptoms," but goes on in the same sentence to say the person is free of fever and other symptoms of illness. A contriduction inside the same sentence. So, who knows.Iit further states she is not being allowed back on the ship but is on a tender, which is a vessel that brings supplies (food, fuel, equipment, parts, etc) out to a ship. I wonder how the CDC knew she was on a cruise, though. They just called up Carnival and started a panic? I therefore wonder if there is something going on and she contacted her supervisor or the CDC. We'll see as this story develops, or fades.

Cruise Passenger with Ebola Symptoms Denied Entry to Belize

A Dallas hospital nurse exhibiting Ebola-like symptoms and her husband, travelling on board Carnival Magic, have been denied entry to Belize. The couple has been prevented from entering Belize City to be airlifted to the U.S.A., and is currently on a ship tender unable to return to the cruise ship, according to the Belizean media reports.

The Government of Belize has issued a press release on the matter, saying that the U.S. Government has confirmed one of the cruise passengers to have very mild Ebola symptoms. The release said that the passenger voluntarily entered the ship’s quarantine, and remains free of fever or other symptoms of illness.

The Belize government assured their citizens that the passenger never set foot in Belize, but failed to address the situation with other 4,631 passengers and crew reported on the ship.

The Belize Coast Guard is currently preventing anyone from leaving the ship, including the Belizean pilot on board.

Based on this story and a couple others, this is my interpretation, which could be wrong. (1) Lab worker had cruise paid for well in advance, and so to avoid losing money, decides to go on the cruise. (2) CDC has her "self-monitoring" which no travel restrictions or notification requirements, and say the risk is very low, so why not? (3) No fever, but something does not feel right to her, maybe diarreah, muscle pains, something. (4) They contact home. (5) CDC arranges an Air Medevac from Belize (this is the odd part - the US governemnt wants to Air Medevac this person! If the person were asymptomatic, the sensible course of action would be confinement and close monitoring. Keep her o the tender, and when a certain number of days have passed, either off load her into Belize to fly home, or transfer her to a Coast Guard Ship if Belize still refuses. It also takes time to arrange an Air Medevac which includes coordination with the host country, so this has to have been in the works for a couple to three days. (6) Belize looks at the situation and says, Nope, this person is not going ashore. (7) The cruise line removes the person from the ship and places her on a tender for isolation and does not want to take her back onboard. No one wants her. Not Belize, not the cruise line.

This is probably all a bunch of ebola hysteria and may be driven by the cruise line that wants her off the vessel. But why did this person come to anyone's attention at all? That's the mystery, and leads me to suspect there may be something going on here. Is the CDC so stupid as to cause a panic and international incident over a low risk asymptomatic person? We shall see.

Exactly...said the same about Ebola nurse #2. She 'may' have been symptomatic before having an elevated temperature. Did they contact all of these people and ask them if they had this 'mild' symptoms. If so, then now they are worried and want to get them all properly isolated and contained. This is all simply too crazy. We do not have enough information to know the facts. The Ebola Czar needs to release all epidemiology information ASAP to share with the public. We can then make our own decisions wether to panic or not. Right now, I'm panicing because of the lack of real information and the FEAR the .gov is covering something up.....

These suites have tubes that connect to external water bottles so people in them can hydrate. So it could have been a water bottle, and handling it would be pretty safe if clipboard man supplied it. They are reverse flow restricted and everything should be contained within the "Hazmat" suit. In the case in the video, the Hazmat suits are not to keep the virus out, to to keep it in. In this case, with the patient and medical personnel suited up for isolation, the danger zone is supposed to be inside the suit, not outside it. These costumes are there to protect the environment external to them, not what's inside. That is the explanation.

Not all cases are going to be real.  Some will be "Deliberate Fakes".  Why?

A:  To FRONT-RUN SUICIDE PUKERS.  The Clipboard Man may be one such case.

Think about it... They know, we know that sooner or later some Jihadist/ISIS Suicide Pukers will fly into the US.  What do you do it you are the US Gov and want to prevent the intended massive panic?  A: You front-run it with several/numerous fake cases, which are all intended to convey the intended propaganda message:

"We are in charge.  When push comes to shove, we have it in hand."  The MSM machine is there to propagate and replayn whatever meme they want to spread.  E.g. "Do Not Panic.  Keep grazing."

That way, when a real case occurs, the public/sheeple won't panic and will keep 'grazing' (work, play, watch TV, etc).  The only thing they are not prepared for, is for the scenario where the Enemy sends in dozens of Pukers, each to a different large metro area (Top 20), to spread the disease.  If these aren't contained rapidly, things will get very ugly, very fast.  But no one wants to talk about that, lest we give the Bad Guys wrong ideas -- as if they need our 'help' anyway.

Yeah...That one was one of the best. They have really got to get their storyline more believable. Yeah...Powdered Formaldehyde....right.

There seems to be agents here whom are doing their best to attempt to paint Ebola as a Government Conspiracy. COINTELPRO is hard at work in attempting to delay the Panic Phase of the subsequent Societal Breakdown.

They know that all hope for the retention of power is lost at that stage.

This was an accident, something not nefariously planned, due to incompetence and continued incompetence.

In a sense I hope that I am wrong about this and it turns out to be a hoax. That will be the best case. But I do not think so...this time.

We will know for certain in the next four to eight weeks. Social Media will tell the story as people will know people whom have become infected. The Main Stream Media will not be able to quash the story at that point. And all hell will break loose.

I just see so much outright BS floating around about all of this. All this piecemeal stuff being slapped together can almost sound factual.
But take these events and actually looking at what they are destroys the whole thing.

Like adding an "emergency 5th cohort" at a higher dose. Phase I clinicals do this stuff all the time. Phase I is where you adjust dose and tolerence.  If your dosage is off (they have formulas to ballpark them) then you can amend the trial and adjust the dose.

Or seeing murals on walls about Ebola is real.  Yeah, there is also anti smoking ones, ones about condoms, etc.  This could be a huge conspiracy to foment unrest. Or it could be that the majority of Africans are not educated and do not think anything about Ebola due to not being able to see it.

I could go on and on refuting every link put up, but in reality, I don't care if someone doesn't take this as being accurate or not.

I am long past the phase in my life where I feel the need to educate anyone about this. I protect my own and go about my day.  Hey, if you want to believe this is all a "hoax" be my guest.

i really hope that I am wrong.

But I do not see any advantage in any Government fomenting a panic. Panic happens when there is a complete breakdown of confidence.

In order to keep power they must maintain a modicum where the majority, the vast majority, has confidence.

Panics tend to erode away at confidence.

That is the main flaw of the thesis that it is a Government conspiracy to consolidate power.

But I do hope that I am mistaken.

I don't know about your scenario, but I DO know that, while ISIS and Ebola are stealing the news limelight, the IDF is preventing Muslims/Palestinians from having access to Jerusalem's Al Aqsa Mosque  (aka 'The Dome of the Rock').

Hamas chief Khaled Meshaal has urged Muslims to “defend” the Al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem after Israeli forces restricted the entrance for Palestinians. He accused Israel of trying to seize the site, which is considered holy for both Muslims and Jews.

READ MORE: Clashes erupt in Jerusalem as Palestinians ‘denied’ access to holy mosque

Note that Zionists (Jewish and Christian) think that the site must have a Jewish Temple built there (Salomon's Temple rebuilt), for the Jewish Messiah ('Savior') to manifest himself.  Of course, if that were to occur, then animal (lamb) sacrifices would also be re-instituted.

None of this can happen while Israel's neighbors are strong or united.  If they all become dysfunctional states, no large Muslim resistance could be mounted.  Insofar that Iraq, Syria and Egypt are unable to provide a military response, and Jordan and the oil Gulf states are unwilling to do so, Zionist plans for a new King Solomon Temple are on track, and perhaps on schedule.

I am saying that it is highly unlikely that we will ever know what is happening or what happend on the ground in any of W. Africa.

I gotta go with my gut feeling on the Ebola thing... It's a Fear Engine. And it's being revved up in our collective driveway by TPTB.

Beyond that I am not sure.

You could be right.   I really don't know.

To be honest, I don't care about Africa.  Never have.  Sorry if that is heartless but Africa is full of savages, well mostly.  I really don't care (in my day to day life) about most of the rest of the world.  Maybe individually but I only have so much time and energy to care about people.

Can this be used to herd the sheep?  Sure.  Where to though, we already are penned up and sheared constantly.  To cover the collapse? Maybe.  That one has better odds.

My own opinion is that they are using this to cover the collapse, but that this virus, unlike HIV, is real. And it kills.

The hubris to allow that bug OUT of where it is endemic is a crime.  Eventhough the chances of it becoming endemic in the USA is about nill, it will disrupt life here if cases continue to multiply.  But because it is not endemic, to keep going it needs an influx of fresh carriers.  So why keep letting in a couple hundred possibles per day?

That would be why I think this is a false flag.  A created situation that needn't be there.  I don't think the bug is fake, or that Red Cross workers are injecting natives with formaldehyde (and stealing their organs lol), but that a muted reaction to allow some cases here creates enough chaos to cover the crash and increase their power.

I absolutely do not see any pandemic here in the USA.  I could be wrong on that though too, so I accept that there might be and stay the hell away from areas where it is transmitted the easiest.

It helps that I loathe most people anyways.

Well stated pods.    We each only have so much 'worry'  to spread around the world.   Hell,  worry supply isn't  like the supply of health care services where one can increase market supply by edict.

Is this American Ebola outbreak avoidable?  By all means yes....but you nailed the bigger question:  Is ebola the threat or the smokescreen?  I think those who like to analyze action/motive would suspect the latter.   Nice post pods you insightful fucker!  I think you have your eye on the ball...we are obviously in uncharted waters,  and yours will have a better chance at survival than the apologetic,  America did it, somebody do something quick crowd of lemmings that pass themselves as voters these days.

So is this person in voluntary self quarantine or has she been forcibly detained in her cabin? If she was in any way forced then the Captain of that ship had better make sure all the paperwork is in order or a fat lawsuit is waiting ashore. CDC said she is very low risk, is that enough under maritime law to quarantine a passenger or will the lawyers argue the Captain acted out of irrational fear?

The Captain of that ship has almost unlimited authority in terms of what he could do in pursuit of protecting life and property while at sea, i.e. summarily killing the clown and tossing her/his/its corpse overboard to prevent possible infection of crew and passengers isn't outrageous (or necessarily criminal) like on land, just excessive... but less so if the US Coast Guard and Navy are unwilling (because the are able) to utilize their capacities to safety extract the threat via helicopter while at sea.

the classic manouver in older times would be to put the poor wretch on a boat and send a message with coordinates. but yes, there is a strange tendency in modern navies to forget the old rules. last seen off the coasts of Africa, when it was about piracy. I will never forget how european Navy captains were protesting that they were not allowed to combat pirates in action without specific authorization

That would also be the classy maneuver, except that the Captain might then unknowingly endanger another ship, crew and passengers. I'm perfectly happy to forgo class (or employ stomach turning juxtapositions and irony) in order to make a point though, being a redneck and all...

endanger another ship? that's what radio signals and a yellow flag on the boat are for. do rednecks float, on water, btw? or, like cats, they avoid it studiously? ;-)

Fri, 10/17/2014 - 09:09 | 5345977 Urban Redneck
Urban Redneck's picture

A redneck can find a less conspicuous use for that yellow flag than alerting possible rescuers that they want to think twice...

The radio is worthless unless the Captain receives an acknowledgement from another ship in the area that another Captain is willing to "onboard" the risk to their manifest (and balance sheet). After all, if any of all the boats in the vicinity does not have a dedicated radio operator listening at the correct time and frequency, how do they even know that a bear has shitted in the woods and an ebola zombie floater is in their end of the pool?

The importance of, and dialogue about, this issue has receded over the last couple generations of seafaring. It will be interesting to see if the collective "we" can learn from existing history or will have to reconstruct that learning curve largely from scratch.

Meanwhile, on dry land, the fascination with preemptive ebola zombie death squads and the resurrection of cordons sanitaires make me fear the choice might be to forego the classy lifeboat option and simply take the crass redneck approach over the intermediate term.

We need to think about the motive behind all this, there has to be one which is NOT how to contain a deadly epidemic (putting the tin foil hat on).

They have quite a large scale mobilisation in terms of MSM propaganda across US and EU as well as Kofi and Ban also chiming in, claiming not enough being done and funds being raised?!

Cant the World Health Organisation get an EBola Development Loan from the World Bank? I mean who's counting or auditing anyway?!

One possibility can be the control of resources in West Africa, but they have owned Africa for decades, so what changed now?

Oligarch infighting? Restricting access to West Africa? (Remember Cental Africa already has Boko Haram).

Anyone who is not supposed to be travelling to West Africa will get paid a visit by the HazMat crew, backed up by US troops?

To answer your question:

can a World Health Organisation risk to downplay a danger like Ebola?

Ofcourse not. But I am not so sure about this whole thing.

1) If it is THAT serious, why are they clowning around about it. e.g. the clipboard man incident. If it was you, and you knew how deadly and contagious this virus is, would you take that kind of risk? Its akin to walking into an active battlefield with a clipboard and a pen.

2) Secondly, in all the infomercials about the disease, they are always trying to sell you something very subtly, other than your personal well being.

Mind you, I come from a third world shithole where such things are a reality, not just reality TV, so my take on things would be kind of biased.

Of course there are alternate reasons -- but they'd better be based on something more substantial than something as vague and timeless as "elite infighting".  Just FOLLOW THE MONEY and GEOPOLITICS.  As posted by Yours Truly on Thu, 10/16/2014 - 12:41 | 5342050 , and Thu, 10/16/2014 – 13:00 | 5342103

Keeping Liberia's oil flowing to the US, and getting China out of Africa makes more sense than a "rich bitch fight".  Instead, can we talk about how...

The US seeks to get/keep China out of Resource-rich parts of Africa (Oil, Gas, Gold, Food), and make it a Zero-Sum geographic game between them.  Which is something I had posted a long time ago, when ZH showed the extent of Chinese activities in Africa.  Despite multiple comments/requests from Your Truly, I have yet to see TD/ZH posting an article that shows the impact of Ebola on US and Chinese holdings & interests in Central Africa.

Q:  How are Obama's 3,000 troops doing, in keeping the Oil flowing in Liberia -- a large oil supplier to the US and thus a large Petrodollar creator?  Ebola + Oil + Petrodollars + Geopolitics = It's all interconnected web in a Complex System, with Intended and Unintended Consequences.

A two-year pandemic preparedness project by FEMA and the financial industry is to culminate with two full scale pandemic exercises in November.

A FEMA document states the “Federal Executive Boards in New York City and Northern New Jersey in partnership with FEMA Region II, The Department of Health and Human Services Region II, NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA) and the Clearing House Association are sponsoring a two year series of pandemic influenza continuity exercises,” which culminate in full scale exercises in November.

The final planning meeting will be in on November 6th and 7th at  26 Federal Plaza, New York, NY Conference Room A/B or Conference Call 800-320-4330; pin 528585#, states the document.

On November 13, 2014 a pandemic influenza Wave 1 Full Scale Exercise and on November 20th, a Pandemic Influenza Wave 2 Full Scale Exercise.

PLANNING FOR A POWER, PHONE AND INTERNET SHUT DOWN DURING IS PART OF THE EXERCISE.

THE PANDEMIC EXERCISE SEEMS TO BE TIMED TO COINCIDE WITH AN ORCHESTRATED FINANCIAL MELTDOWN. THE PARTICIPATION OF THE FINANCIAL SECTOR IN A FEMA PANDEMIC EXERCISE IS A RED FLAG.

THE Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA) and the Clearing House Association ARE PARTNERING FEMA IN THE  PANDEMIC EXERCISE WHICH COULD SERVE AS A COVER FOR A REAL TIME FALSE FLAG EBOLA EVENT AND FINANCIAL CRASH.

Zerohedge has warned an Ebola outbreak would be advantageous for Globalists seeking to impose martial law during a financial meltdown.

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2014-10-10/ebola-outbreak-would-be-advantageous-globalists

US and UK central bankers are meeting in Washington next week to test a financial crash war game.

“A financial crash to rival the one caused by Lehman Brothers’ collapse will be played out by the world’s most powerful central bankers next week, in a “war game” designed to help end the “too big to fail” problem.

In the first simulation of its kind, Janet Yellen, the head of the US Federal Reserve, and Mark Carney, the Governor of the Bank of England, will be joined by Chancellor George Osborne and US Treasury Secretary Jack Lew, who will be tested on their reaction to a major US or UK bank failure.”

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/financialcrisis/11155381/George-Osborne-and-Mark-Carney-to-play-financial-crash-war-game.html

The pandemic exercise comes amid a false flag Ebola event on Texas territory as well as warnings by a Former Patrol Border Agent that FEMA is preparing for 200 million deaths.

http://www.examiner.com/article/bp-agent-fema-is-preparing-for-200-million-deaths

An orchestrated, simulated Ebola outbreak — water? — would provide the excuse for imposing martial law in the USA as a first step to medical tyranny around the globe.

What the hell are these people thinking?.... Hey, I've been handling people with a deadly contagious disease. I think I'll go mingle with some people in a confined space. What a bunch of idiots.

“What the hell are these people thinking?”

I’m not sure what’s going on anymore.  People are tossing into stuffed animals at Wal-Mart then tossing the stuffed animals back onto the shelves.  What do you do when you see this happening:

“Officers responded to the Walmart on Broad Street just before 3 p.m. Tuesday for the complaint. Employees say they saw Johnson using a stuffed horse toy and go to the bedding department where he masturbated into the animal. The incident was caught on camera.

He then put the toy, now covered in ejaculate, back on the shelf, police say. Other items were contaminated and could not be sold.”

You can read it for yourself:

There's the article it's a pretty straight forward description a certain percentage of people infected take up to seven weeks(42) days to exhibit symptoms. 2-5%

95% ... 1 to 21 days

3% ... 22 to 42 days

2% ... longer than 42 days

if the WHO data is accurate.

2 Sigma = 95.5%   (45 in 1,000 are outside = scary) = Incubation ~ 1-21 days

3 Sigma = 99.7%   (3 in 1,000 are outside = still scary) = Incubation ~ 22-42 days

4 Sigma = 99.994%  (6 in 100,000 are outside = still scary for a large city) = Incubation > 42 days

5 Sigma = 99.9999426697%  (0.0000573303% or 6 in 10,000,000 outside = manageable) = Asymptomatic Carrier?

6 Sigma = 99.9999998027%  (0.0000001973% or 2 in 1,000,000,000 outside = manageable)  = Asymptomatic Carrier?  Ebola Barry/Mary?
