Officials Responding To "Possible Ebola Situation" Near Pentagon

Arlington County Fire Department and Fairfax County HAZMAT Teams are on the scene after a woman - alleged to have recently traveled from Liberia - fell ill and started vomiting in The Pentagon parking lot this morning. Arlington Public Health has activated its Emergency Operations Center to manage the incident.

"During the response, the individual allegedly indicated that she had recently visited western Africa. Out of an abundance of caution, all pedestrian and vehicular traffic was suspended around the South Parking lot, while Arlington County responded to the scene," Arlington officials said.
The situation started at around 9:10 a.m. when the woman started vomiting in the Pentagon Parking Lot around lanes 17-19, officials said.
Arlington County Fire Department transported the woman to the Virginia Hospital Center, but she did not exit the ambulance there. She was then taken to Fairfax Inova Hospital, officials said.

As ARL Now reports, just before noon, the county issued the following press release.
Arlington Responds to Possible Ebola Case
At about 9:10 a.m. today, Pentagon Police officers identified a woman in the Pentagon South Parking Lot, around lanes 17-19, who was ill and vomiting. Arlington County Fire Department (ACFD) was notified and responded immediately with both emergency medical aid and HazMat response team.
During the response, the individual allegedly indicated that she had recently visited western Africa. Out of an abundance of caution, all pedestrian and vehicular traffic was suspended around the South Parking lot, while Arlington County responded to the scene. At 9:53 a.m, the patient was taken to the Virginia Hospital Center; however she did not exit the ambulance. ACFD then transported the patient to Fairfax Inova Hospital.
Arlington Public Health is directing the public health response to this incident. Arlington County has activated its Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and a Joint Information Center (JIC) to manage the incident.
At the Pentagon
Out of an abundance of caution and to allow the investigation to proceed, pedestrian and vehicular traffic around the Pentagon South Parking lot’s lanes 7-23 will remain restricted until further notice. The Corridor 2 entrance to the Pentagon is also closed.
More information will be released when it becomes available.
We hope Obama got the memo that the lawyer/lobbyist whom he appointed as the new Ebola czar isn't actually supposed to have Ebola.

The vomit came in low almost clipping the power lines. Then it punctured a nice, round 8' diameter hole and penetrated three inner buildings into some of the offices of the least popular Pentagon workers' cubicles.

Just telling you what my friend said, a matter of weeks after 9/11! I lived 1.5 miles from the Pentagon at the time. I peronally didn't see it or feel it, as I was in the elevator at the time. Could see the burned out side of the Pentagon from my building. A resident of my condo building said he saw the plane overhead. For months afterward, when driving by the north side of Pentagon you'd have these very large manned guns trained on your vehicle. A few of the Saudis visited the nearby Al-hijrah mosque in Falls Church, where al-Awlaki preached before he and his boy got droned. Interesting times.

She was transferring to a different bus, but not the bus she briefly boarded and left. She apparently just got on that bus to use the bathroom in the back and left immediately afterwards, according to the passengers. Makes sense if she usually transfered to a city bus - they don't have any bathrooms.
She probably just randomly picked one of the dozens of tour/charter buses that wait there. This one was probably parked with its door open and no driver to question her. They generally don't care to have their buses used as public restrooms. The bus she boarded just happened to be a charter bringing marines and guests to a change-of-command ceremony at the Pentagon. Her employer, Total Source, doesn't really have any direct business with the Pentagon and she was not invited to the marine ceremony.
All of this must have sucked for the unfortunate marines and guests - the bus was stopped enroute and everyone taken prisoner until they got everyting sorted out (hours later). The marines on the bathroom-stop bus didn't say anything about her being delerious or drunk, and they didn't even know what happened with her until their bus was stopped.
The first responders would have been the Pentagon Force Protection Agency - one of the many guard outfits elevated to federal law enforcement agent status (=part of the private federal army). If she threw up then passed out, then who knows what she actually said to them. She was obviously too sick to work but went anyways. I doubt she lied about being in Liberia considering the source: the PFPA. They probably freaked out and jumped to conclusions when they were called to the scene of an unconscious black woman that just vomited.
Good thing it wasn't DC cops responding. They probably would have tazed her several times and emptied a clip into her before figuring out she was just sick. It's hard to plant a gun on a body with all those people around.

The problem with any "New" infectious disease, especially one as notorious as e.g. Ebola (or its relatives), is that they grab the attention of the general population, and become the centre of attention (and with a unhealthy mortality rate, one fully understands this).
The REAL problem is that Ebola (or whatever) will be joining the already pretty large range of microorganism that can (and regularly DO) kill us. So, it's not a "Death by Ebola instead of, say Plague", rather Death by Ebola on top of all the other "costly and time-intensive to manage" diseases out there.
So, considering that the peacetime Health Systems (of pretty much everywhere), are set up (and of course funded) for a "fairly constant" stream of categorised Patients, any new disturbance carries the very real risk of overwhelming the system; not just the "treatment" system, but also all those very necessary "invisible services", including "management of the dead".
These are all the "less glamorous" parts of Medicine. Less glamorous = less intensively funded / less adequately staffed / far less "equity" when claiming "their fair share" of the funding cake. If "things do become interesting" (and predictions / modelling indicate a very high probabilty before Christmas . . . .), these are the areas of Medicine that will collapse first. And once "our" speciality collapses, it'll be game over for any directed infection-control management.

But there are plenty of people out there who do, and they stick to their story no matter what, and no matter what evidence or logic is presented in counter-argument. How do they do it? I've no idea, my own mind does't even start to work that way.

If you don't then you could probably do with a little more paranoia yourself. Of course your mind doesnt work that way, and other people dont have minds that work like yours. Therefore its perfectly normal for someone to think this way about you too. I just try not to use MEDIA talking points as arguments since they have been proven bogative for a long time now and critical independant thinkers know their agenda is NOT in favor of the average person.
