Vatican Blesses Porsche, Blocks Plebs From Sistine Chapel
For the first time in the 600(or so)-year history of Michelangelo's masterpiece, Pope Francis has decided to rent out the Sistine Chapel for an $8000-per-head concert organized by Porsche. What makes this unprecedented action even more 'interesting' is the fact that The Vatican - in all its omnipotent wisdom - also made an announcement that it will be limiting the number of vistors (read 'common folk') allowed inside the chapel and as IBTimes reports, demanding vistors must be silent and cannot take photographs. So much for Pope Francis' "poor Church of the poor."
Pope Francis has revealed that the Vatican will rent out the Sistine Chapel for a corporate event for the first
time in its 600-year history.
Porsche will hire the revered chapel, which is covered in Michelangelo's stunning frescoes, and put on a private concert for 40 lucky – and high paying – guests. The concert, which takes place on Saturday, will be one stop on an exclusive tour of Rome organised by the car brand.
The Vatican has not divulged how much it will earn from the event, but the five-day tour of Italy's capital, arranged by the Porsche Travel Club, costs up to €5,000 a head, meaning an overall intake of €200,000, reported The Telegraph.
The concert will be performed by a choir from the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome, which traces its origins back to the 16th century. Participants will then sit down to a meal in the midst of the Vatican Museum, "surrounded by masterpieces by world-famous artists such as Michelangelo and Raphael".
"It's a one-off event and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," a spokeswoman for the Porsche Travel Club told The Telegraph. "It will be the highlight of the trip."
Proceeds from the event will go to charities working with the poor and homeless.
But the unprecedented news has been accompanied by an announcement that the Vatican will limit the number of visitors allowed inside the chapel, where visitors must be silent and cannot take photographs, to six million a year, amid fears that the frescoes are being damaged by the breath and sweat of so many tourists.
The Sistine Chapel receives 25,000 visitors a day and its primary function is to be the site of the Papal conclave, the process by which a new Pope is selected.

Why can't they sell naming rights to the Vatican? They would get a fortune for a big honkin sign on the roof...
iVatican?
Or they could break it up for different things... the Marlboro Chimney could look like a big cigarette...
Not that they need the money.
You're onto something, RedPill:
Start really worrying when his vestments are littered with Mobil, Ferrari, Hugo Boss, Goldman Sachs logos...

Is there really a difference between politicians and religious men? Isnt it packaging up bullshit with different kinds of wrapping paper?
I was appalled by the conduct of the public when I passed through the Vatican, and it looked like the barest minimum effort was being expended to protect priceless art from their greasy fingertips and the debilitating effects of their sweat and body heat. In the Sistine Chapel guards chanted "no photo no photo" while flash photography lit up the ceiling like a lightning storm. I wanted to smack the $2,000 DSLR camera out of the hands of the asshat next to me and scream "NO PHOTO YOU ASSHOLE" to him but alas, lacked the cojones.
Similar experience.
Don't hate me for my $2,000 DSLR camera -

Ditto. How many times can you yell at rednecks who can afford a ticket to Italy to shut the fuck up?
The new indulgences.
I was just going to ask how much for an Indulgence. Surely it's more than $8k?
Oh, and I'd like a money-back guarantee as well.

And he was doing so well up til now, IMO. But if the proceeds really go to charities, I'm okay with it, I really am.
Apart from being a petrol head (I have nothing with Porsche, though, but I can understand the passion) I'm a catholic in name, and more of that heritage still resides in me than I sometimes care to admit. The catholic church isn't all about young boys and power and money, as far as I'm concerned. There are a heck of a lot of souls throughout the world working anonimously in charity in the name of the (dare I say, my?) Lord and my heart goes out to them.
Maybe they can use the Sistine Chapel as a bingo hall one day.
HFT trading room.
MDB-! Where you been bro?
Too long between your witty, pithy gemstones
According to the prophecies of St. Malachy, this Pope would be the last one. Hopefully that is correct, because I personally do not wish to see which new ideas the next Pope could come up with... Regarding the money earned with this event, I would really like to know what it will be used for, "charity" doesn't seem the most likely purpose, for sure.
Close the Chapel to everyone but Confirmed Catholics. End of story.

I'm a young convert to the Church and usually attend the Tridentine Rite.
This pope is a destroyer, a wrecker, a person who mimics (as it were) what a lieutenant of God is supposed to do.
He appeals to good ends in his rhetoric (reminding us that the Church is a hospital for sinners, that we should be patient in overcoming sins, etc.) but at the end of the day intentionally muddles fundamental truths of the Faith.
For those who are not active in the Church, please do not base your opinion of it on the clergy, the pope, or the visible Catholics. Read St. Bonaventure (whom I prefer), Bl. Duns Scotus, St. Thomas Aquinas. The Church once was the bulwark of intellectual pursuit and I would say the true, eternal Church is still.
A few weeks after he was elected I had doubts. Then I listened how Ziomedia was hailing him and I knew he was a deadly enemy of the church. In the last months he has proven it already.
I'm a protestant looking in from the outside; and I have the same feelings about Francis as you. Benedict was a much better Pope, and was damn fine as simple Cardinal Ratzinger, in my opinion.
Ratz stepped down for a reason.
Think he ever steps foot off the papal soveriegn?
Hmmmm
I think he stepped down for precisely the reasons he specified: health related.
The same pope that is supporting the destruction of the family and gloryfying homosexuality?
The same pope that is lobbying for a "UNO of religions"?
The same pope that is giving audience to Peres while Israel is levelling the Gaza strip?
The same pope being silent about the Zionist wars of aggression?!
The Vatican seems to have become a base of the devil.
As with all organized religions. As Christ allegedly said, "My Father's kingdom is not of this domain."
Simply put, the church is NOT a place.
Of course it is. They invented the devil.
Brother's Grimm were more sophisticated than the writers of the Judeo-Christian fairy tales.
Forget it, man! At least the church is honest. The whole scam will likely be exposed in our lifetime.
Become? Always has been.
Why do you think they both wear beanies?
I've been gobsmacked by some very indepth research I've found with the resources presented by walter veith. Much has been presented here by numerous folks. Like the Tylers dig to get to the bottom of the skullduggery with the resources available, this guy ties it all together. Finance, poison food, Isra....,911, Vat, Jesuits, freemasons, mormans, new age, "coexist", There is not one thing as it seems in what we believe to be religion. It's the biggest pack of deceit imaginable and I'm not talking about true Christianity.
start with the secrets of secret societies on utube. I've been watching him for a couple of weeks. the man speaks truth to power.
He doesn't preach, he presents info for you to decide.
Disgusting doesn't begin to define this. But hey, given the source?...
I'd almost like to see Pope Francis "up the ante" by inviting under aged children and pedophiles to an all you can eat antipasto spaghetti dinner buffet at 10,000 Euros a plate.
After all. Talking exotic cars and groping under aged children can give a child abuser quite an appetite!
Next collection plate event should be Saint Paul's Basilica for the ECBers!!!
At this point -Why not?!!!
Thought at first that this Francis fellow was just what the CC needed, a humble man who seemed to embrace the poor. Then he started going on about wealth redistribution, how the First World needed to lift up the Third and how everything should be equalized, sharesies for all. Just another system shill.
everything should be equalized, sharesies for all
it's gonna be, just not as you expect.
Taking photos in the chapel has been prohibited as long as I can remember. Of course about 20% of the visitors still try to take photos in there and some get thrown out.
Last time I was there also saw a tourist of perhaps Japanese origin trying to move away a praying elder lady in order to take a photo of a statue. This was in the cathedral though.
A little respect could help.
Proceeds from the event will go to charities working with the poor and homeless.
Think of it this way, if it were a synagogue being rented out, the money would go to building settlements in the West Bank.
Pretty sure the flash from photos damages ol paper and maybe the paint itself. There's lots of places you can't take photos - I guess it's sinister when the Catholics do it though.
Shrug.
No fan of the Church hierarchy but this story looks like a lazy hit piece written by a fuckwit.
Concert? Great idea! Can they get "Black Sabbath"? They could call it "Red Sabbath with Black Sabbath". :-)
People are Catholics bcause Jesus is there, in every consecrated Host, in the tabernacle, in the sacrifice of the altar, in all the sacraments, in souls consecrated, however imperfectly, to God.
If there were no Sistine Chapel there would still be one holy, catholic and apostolic Church. We do not worship any human being, or any idol, or power and wealth. We worship God in the Holy Trinity, forever and ever, amen.

Why not just go home?
Porsche is Catholic? Then, why not bless each car? And what might that be worth?
How do we know that Francis Sawyer hasn't returned under another avatar?
How do we ZHers know that Francis Sawyer isn't in this room right now?
How do we know that Francis Sawyer isn't one of the Tylers?
How do we know that Francis Sawyer isn't Pope Francis?
Yes, FS was before my time, and NO, I am not the cheese pope himself.

So - to distill this to its essence:
The Vatican is renting out part of St. Peter's to raise money for charity, and is going to reduce/limit tourists and reiterate the photography ban to protect the hundreds of years old art?
how dreadful. Has the kid-fucking issue been resolved then?

Where's Martin Luther when you need him? The Catholic Church is nothing more than the remnants of the Roman Empire.
The Lutheran Church would HANG Martin Luther for his anti-semitism and homophobia and etc. The Catholic Church would do the same for Pope Pius X.
Yes! Because the Roman Empire morphed into Christianity! The Roman Empire wrote the script based losely on the stories and propaganda of the Judeans.
Propaganda is not new to this age. Every ruler or ruling family used some form of propaganda to subvert and control their own peoples and especially to conquer new lands and new peoples!
Why is it so hard to fathom that the whole thing is centered around a piece of ancient propaganda which sadly has spun totally out of control and is still capturing too many good minds and hearts to this day.
It was all down hill from there for the Roman Empire. And after that Europe plunged into darkness only to resurface when the reformation took place which opened the way to some free thinking. During the dark ages Islam was more enlightened but then it took a wrong turn. Societies evolve when people start to think for themselves.
Jesus used to drive the moneychangers out of the Temple. Now, Jesus drives a black Porsche Panamera Turbo S Executive.
Right from the start I thought he was one of the anti-Christs.
I was in the Vatican once and I thought if there is a better moment that I would get some sort of religious feeling then it should be then. But no. Rather I felt disgusted by all the marble, gold, jewelery, pompousness, etc. knowing that while they were all building these riches and enjoying them in the Vatican (along with some choir boys for sure) common folk suffered and had to pay pardons for their sins (with which all these cathedrals and churches were built in Europe). Not much better with protestantism either. Visiting Jerusalem also did not do it for me although I really did not have any expectations. I just felt pity for all these deluded souls whatever religion.
Christianity does not do it for me. Islam is really whacky and I am not even going there. I tried Zen Buddhist hedonism but that started to bore me after a while. I like old Greek Zeus and Apollo and stuff. Really some colorful characters there. And nature gods. You know, running naked through the forest and stuff (with some naked girls).
Stop searching. Enjoy a life free of spiritual bondage. That's worth alot. There is evidence of intelligent design. Where, when, how, who is going to remain a mystery for now. Maybe it was an accident, a crash landing. What you do now and how you pour into your kids or your friends is how your legacy will survive you when you're dead. Lights out. The End.
I understand people's need for comfort and for a meaning to life. Nothing wrong with that. It is all psychology. Every life comes to an end. In the past lives were short and often cruel. There is a lot of pain in life so people look for explanations and for comfort. And I believe that works for people. Research also shows that people who have a moderate faith are physically and mentally healthier (and that works better than filling your life with material stuff that you don't really need). But life is not about being happy. If there is a God or whatever than that is bigger than me so I don't need to worry about it. Just be good to yourself, your loved ones and be kind to strangers and help someone out every once in a while.
Christianity answers every question and mystery.
Not sure why the mere trappings of men turned you off. What do you expect GOD's holy places to look like? A straw hut on a deserted beach?
If there is a God or whatever than that is bigger than me so I don't need to worry about it. Just be good to yourself, your loved ones and be kind to strangers and help someone out every once in a while.
That won't cut it. Being a nice person is not enough. The New Testament lays out clearly the path for salvation. Accept Jesus as your Lord and in your heart believe GOD raised him from the dead. Nothing else will do. If you want proof, look at the Shroud of Turin. Explain that, because science cannot.
"What do you expect GOD's holy places to look like? A straw hut on a deserted beach?"
Where do you think Jesus was born? In a palace?
"That won't cut it. Being a nice person is not enough."
You can be a brute and be nasty to everybody but as long as you accept Jesus as your lord then everything will be A OK!
Science has debunked the shroud of Turin on numerous occasions. Cause science is great!
Anyway, it is futile to argue with folks like you. Every religion is full of them. And you did not get at all the messages that Jesus gave. If you are a true Christian then live like Christ. Live with the lepers and the downtrodden. "What you have done to the least of me, you have done to me". I remember that Jesus said something like that.
That whole idea of Jesus resurrecting by the way was devised during a concillium in Rome. Cause what good is a dead king if you want to establish a lasting religion?
Do you accept my answer about GOD's holy place? Yes or No.
Do you accept my answer about salvation? Yes or No.
Science has debunked the shroud of Turin on numerous occasions.
Completely untrue. Atheists have tried and failed. Science cannot explain the Shroud. Made by an unknown radiation source. A negative 3D image, that no known technology can duplicate.

The old time PTB within the Church hate Francis. There's the tell........give the Argentine time.
I've been. It was underwhelming.
I could do without all the Asians snapping pictures.

Charge away, Vatican. People will easily pay 100 euros to get in.
I'm sure this sort of thing has been going on for a long time... but somebody decided to leak this particular private event.
My bet is that they're not happy about the rumored synod trial balloon on the Pope recognizing gay marriage with the sop for granting communion to divorcees.
