You have to consider they have to hire a lot of these guys to have 24/7 shift coverage. It costs a lot of money in overtime to babysit dysfunctional adults.

Nursing homes typically pay $8 an hour. Which is a fraction of what C.Os. make.

As for colleges, the TA usually only puts in 30 hours week. Spring semester and fall semester. Professors are busy doing something else other than actually teaching.

It's much cheaper to educate than house, but the shareholders of CCA Aren't complaining one bit. Long, the casino-gulag!

High-interest student loans are for people wanting to advance their career, and a taxpayer money pit for those wanting to advance (on average) their criminal career.

You would think it would be the other way around, but providing higher education is way too "Socialist" for America, yet housing inmates at double the cost... well that's very politically conservative, so it's the moral thing to do /I'm being sarc in the last paragraph.

Paul Krugman's solution to the jail problem would be to have vandals go around breaking windows, and as long as they weren't put in jail, the economy would take off and the cost of jails wouldn't even matter.

Charles Manson was once interviewed by the CBS in the early 80's. It was one of those 'in-depth' interviews (I think it was a 'sixty minutes' segment), and they asked him about his personal life. He stated that it was just fine. He could have all the sex he wanted in prison. He laughed about it. They changed the subject.

A few years later, a teleplay of the Book 'The Green Mile' was made, and there was a character in it that was patterned loosely after the gay Charlie Manson (although Steven King would probably never admit this fact in public).

If men want to have buttsex together, then that's their choice (but keep that shit to yourselves). The fact that the taxpayers are forced to pay $180,000 per year per 'inmate' for this 'priveledge' of being ass-raped is the outrage. Al Capone was succesfully prosecuted for 'tax evasion' and sentenced to imprisonment at Alcatraz. His cause of death was SYPHILLIS.

People working at Walmart get paid about $18,000 per year (if they're lucky). In NYC, it costs TEN TIMES AS MUCH to keep a prisoner locked in a cell. The people working at walmart are being TAXED to PAY for this shit.

Yeah, I'm ROFLMAO (whatever the fuck THAT means).

I could fix that fast.  just execute all inmates, regardless of the nature of the crime.  And, the government is fast working on killing off any elderly with their death panels.  that leaves a lot of money for the already rich universities.

Your solution wouldn't work, as all governments live off the backs of their "subjects."

All totalitarian governments prevent exit from their domain for that very reason. The Nazis even made it difficult for all, but the poorest Jews, gays, etc., to leave. That is because they, the pols and crats, wanted first dibs on their property instead of allowing it to be sold/transferred to someone else, Of course they also wanted their labor, and the associated  concentration camp support contracts.

Looking at the Soviet Union, the gulag system was really nothing more than a cheap labor system that benefited the profiteers who ostensibly "owned" it and the pols and crats who were connected to it. I.e. the gulag system was a giant Soviet profit center, prison system, inside a prison system, the Soviet Union.

These facts are why one sees the DC US being more and more fixated on the "border." First on "entry," but later on "exit"--"...you can check out, but you can never leave."

An American, not US subject.

Government is theft and violence, and only poverty, misery, death and lies can be the product of their efforts.

Prisons are indeed "profit" centers of government.

An American, not US subject.

"The common joke is that one will be made someone's bitch in jail. But isn't the real joke that government can't even prevent such things where they are fully in control?"

Thats just tuition for that Ivy league which is a corporation and has a trust worth Billions. Doesn't include anything else.

And that is cheap for a nursing home.
My grandmother lost tens of thousands from the modern day wage slave 5 finger discounters who "cared" for her.

She was from the "Greatest Generation".

The money toward jails helps make money for municipalities (even though municipalities are trillions in debt) trade stocks in inmates names, the money of course going toward rich republicans.

The fraudulent Benedict Charlie Crist Arnold and The goblin plead the 5ther Scott both own and have friends that own majority stock in CCA and GO respectively, 2 large private FSA corporations that make big bucks warehousing people in concentration camps.

Also part of the medicinal pharmaceutical military industrial complex.

One of these days, you'll "mouth off" to a cop and end up in one of these jails. In the new normal America, going to jail has become inevitable so your modest proposal wouldn't benefit you in anyway.

Just something to consider.

Nothing is inevitable.

The blessing and the curse of 'free will' has a responsibility involved.

Tom IS correct in pointing out the totalitarian/death cult attitude of the current trend regarding the so-called 'police'.

Yeats was right. The center doesn't hold.

Is it better to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune? Comply with illegal 'commands' by a NAZI STASI PRIVATE INCORPORATION and their 'roid representatives'? BOW DOWN and PAY TRIBUTE to their form of taxation and subjugation of the free mind and spirit and will? BEND OVER AND TAKE IT IN THE ASS WITH NO LUBE?

NAY, LAD, I say thusly take up ARMS!

Imagine instead of arresting people for stealing, we just had a hot-line that you called up "Hi operator, I am about to commit a robbery, but if you guys just let me live in a hotel room for a year with free cable and room service . . .  I wont" - Operator: one minute sir,  . . . .  would you like a single bed or two?

^^

Not for nothing, I GUARENTEE if you could figure out a way to keep people from mouching on it. . . and pretending to commit crimes they wouldnt normally commit without the incentive. .  .that it would actually be cheaper and better for everyone to just do that.

Or

We can just stop arresting every pot smoker who urinates in public, and you know . . . be civilized and grown up about the situation that people have a right to relax and take a piss when they need to. . . you cant keep arresting people for "human nature".

If no one is hurt in person or property and no one is put into immediate or prolonged danger (exposure over time to something that creates a health risk). . . it should not be illegal or criminal

80% of the cost is all salary and bennies, the prision guards union is one of the most powerful in the state next to the teachers.

In California, city by city are filing for BK, and 100% of the time, its becasue they have to pay so much for thier retied workforce..  less and less money for active employees..  sooner or later, each city will have one person left employed, and it will be the person handing our the pension checks.

It should be illegal for public employees to unionize, if that happened, you would see much of the corruption out of politics.  The unions supply more money to politicians than all corporations combined.
