I think that this brave woman should be supported. Can we take up a collection to pay for her hotel expenses, to spend her quarantine time near K street in Washington DC?
Well, she should be allowed to go out into the countryside for walks, and exercise. As long as there are no people around, she should be free to do as she likes.
That doesn't excuse her so-called altruism in returning to an ebola infested environment, unless one cheers her eventual elimination from the gene pool.
The do-gooders I have met, not all but nearly all of them are self-righteous attention seekers, with a bent notion of what Public Service means. They also have a self-destructive urge, are addicted to risk that makes them forget about trying to figure out who they are, as if the only way they can know what they are is by putting their continued existence in jeopardy.
I am reminded of the the book "Mountains Beyond Mountains", a biography of the doctor,Paul Farmer, who has made life's work out of missions to Haiti to work with TB and HIV patients. He will travel for days by foot into the deep forests of that country to get to a single patient who needs his help. What is not said is that many other patients who are within a few minutes of his help will suffer because of his inability to get things in perspective. Simple triage would have him treat the close in patients rather than one in the hinterlands. He is not god but acts like one.
Nor does he see that saving the lives of any of these people will result in them having more children who will also get sick and require even more medical attention, in essence propagating the diseases which he purports to want to defeat.
But his conscience can not rest, he claims he is driven by his need to try and heal. "The road to hell......".

some of the medical personnel in Africa are on a religious mission. hmm, seems to me George Bush did something to open WAfrica to missionary medical teams, at the time they were there to treat people with aids, seems that most of these meds were preaching abstinence to the locals, no condoms allowed, even in the third world. not sure where Kaci fits in all this, but clearly if there is problem with medical teams refusing quarantine based on religious orthodoxy that opens it up to serious questions (just as W Bush believed the end of days was coming and the war in Iraq would be the beginning)
