Disillusioned Millennials Dump Democrats, Blame Obama

Tyler Durden's picture

In a sad reflection of the hope-and-change expectations, a new national poll shows likely voters in the so-called millennial generation prefer a Republican-led Congress after next week's elections, and young Hispanics are turning sharply against President Obama. As National Journal reports, the poll of 18-to-29-year-olds by Harvard's Institute of Politics (IOP) shows that young Americans are leaving the new Democratic coalition that twice elected Obama as the president's approval rating among Millennial tumbles from 47% in April to just 43% now (and nearly 60% of young Americans disapprove of Obamacare). However, the news is not all good as the future of the American electorate, generally hold Republicans in the lowest regard.

As The National Journal reports,

A new national poll of 18-to-29-year-olds by Harvard's Institute of Politics shows that young Americans are leaving the new Democratic coalition that twice elected Obama. The news is little better for the GOP: These voters, who more than any other voting bloc represent the future of the American electorate, generally hold Republicans in the lowest regard.

The long-view IOP findings suggest that neither party is poised to win the largest generation in U.S. history - a pragmatic, demanding, relatively nonideological electorate raised in an age of terrorism, war, and government dysfunction.

"Millennials could be a critical swing vote," said IOP Director Maggie Williams, projecting the latest results on future elections. "Candidates for office: Ignore millennial voters are your peril." Williams is a Democrat and a former adviser to Hillary Clinton.

In the short term, the news is worse for Democrats than Republicans.

  • Millennials who told the IOP they will "definitely be voting" Tuesday favored Republicans over Democrats, 51 percent to 47 percent. That is a reversal of September 2010 results, when the IOP found Democrats favored over Republicans among young likely voters, 55 percent to 43 percent.
  • Obama's job-approval rating among millennials decreased from 47 percent in April to 43 percent, his second-lowest rating in the IOP surveys. Among young Americans most likely to vote, his job-approval rating is just 42 percent.
  • Obama's job approval is below 40 percent on several issues, including the economy, health care, the federal budget deficit, and foreign policy. Nearly six of 10 young Americans disapprove of Obamacare.
  • Among the one in four millennial voters who say they definitely will vote Tuesday, Republican-leaning constituencies are significantly more enthusiastic about the election than Democrats.
  • Just 49 percent of young Hispanics approve of Obama's job performance, the lowest since IOP began tracking in 2009. That's a big drop from six months ago, when his rating among young Hispanics was 60 percent, and five years ago, when 81 percent of Hispanic millennials approved of Obama's performance. Only 17 percent of Hispanic youth plan to vote Tuesday, far smaller than the non-Hispanic percentages and likely a reflection of frustration over stalled immigration reform.

*  *  *

With a week to go... things do not look good for The Democrats... time to get long 'veto' pens.

*  *  *

And if you're wondering why the disillusionment... here's one big reason (via The Washington Times)

The Affordable Care Act was supposed to make health care more affordable, but a study of insurance policies before and after Obamacare shows that average premiums have skyrocketed, for some groups by as much as 78 percent.

Average insurance premiums in the sought-after 23-year-old demographic rose most dramatically, with men in that age group seeing an average 78.2 percent price increase before factoring in government subsidies, and women having their premiums rise 44.9 percent, according to a report by HealthPocket scheduled for release Wednesday.

Hey Millennials - you don't buy into the false left-right paradigm & illusion, do you?

I hope not. No matter how the rhetoric on social issues differs between the Republicans & Democrats, I can prove to you, without an iota of doubt, that both"different" parties are owned by the same exact people and institutions, and there is no real choice, no real democracy and no substantive difference.

It's the Matrix. Unplug yourselves and actively work to take the system down, because it can't be saved.

True. Gingrich dragged Clinton along in the 94/95 timeframe into balancing the budget and producing a surplus (ie, still somewhat gimmicky due to the blurring of the distinction between off- and on-budget, but still impressive). Then, in 1998, the Republican Congress passed a budget that added to the deficit.

Along comes free spender Bush who represented the Progressive wing of the Republican Party. To be mercifully short, shit happened. If you compare Bush vs Obama, Bush is Obama lite, or Obama is Bush heavy. "Lite" is a relative term since Bush racked up over 4 trillion in debt.

Since the Tea Party revolution in 2010, the Republican establishment has spent more time, energy, and money trying to destroy the Tea Party than even slightly inhibiting the Democrats.

There are many good Tea Party candidates among the new crop of Republicans. Maybe there is some hope.

Newt and Bill were both CFR members.  Newt and Romney were backed by Shedlon Adelson (zio casino) while Obola had many other AIPAC supporters.

Why did he back Newt and Romney?  Block Rick Santorum because Rick was destroying Romney in the midwest with no money.  Santorum was getting the Christian vote.

Adelson said Santorum was "a little too Christian" for me. They don't like Christians in power like Putin.

Romney rigged a few Midwest states then pressured Santorum out.  Santorum would carry the entire state and Roney would win the major city with 120% turnout.   Obola then did the same thing to Romney.

They rig primaries and elections.  Nothing left to chance.

I am a millennial. I cannot speak for my entire generation, but I can speak for my direct peers. We know society is ready to explode. We know that what comes from the mouth of.gov is a lie. We know that anyone with a government pension will not act in the best interests of the country as a whole. We know that the police serve and protect their interests, and their interests only. We know that since birth ('91 in my case), we have been filled with propaganda of "American Exceptionalism". We know that if the status quo is maintained, in our life time we will see the Earth destroyed beyond the point of no return. We know that the "enemies", that this country face are domestically created. We know that if you want a vibrant, flourishing economy, C.E.O's cannot bring home 2500% the wage of their companies avegage employee. If you want change, look to my generation for it, and abandon your oppressive systems of corporate and social hierarchy that your generations have created, as those are the ones that have brought us to this point. In essence, embrace us and vote for us in governmental and corporate positions, or start taste testing your favorite flavor of cat food because that is all you'll be able to afford to eat.

Full Faith and: The elite love people like you. To them, you are a useful idiot.

We know that what comes from the mouth of.gov is a lie.

Some questions: Do you believe in big gov't? If you don't, where in your fantasy utopian juvenile vision are your criticisms of big gov't? If you believe in big gov't, how in the fuck does making gov't bigger cause gov't to lie less? Does your vision even include the downsides of big gov't?

We know that since birth ('91 in my case), we have been filled with propaganda of "American Exceptionalism".

No, your head has been filled with propaganda that America isn't exceptional. Said propaganda blares forth from all the institutions that Progressives control: The culture, media, colleges and universities, etc. It appears that propaganda worked in your case. It usually does with useful idiots.

If you want change, look to my generation for it, and abandon your oppressive systems of corporate and social hierarchy that your generations have created, as those are the ones that have brought us to this point.

God. What an idiot. "Oppressive systems", my ass. What brought us to this point is actualized Progressivism, the belief that a larger, more powerful gov't is the solution to all problems. Back in the day when the gov't was smaller, we had a healthy, vibrant country and economy, turned to shit due to Marxism/Lesbianist redistributionism espoused by Progessives. Progressivism is tearing this country apart.

Not to worry, however, that your are brainless and clueless, and have no idea how to fix the putative shit you say we're in. No 23-year-old knows anything. When you acquire experience, knowledge, and wisdom, and understand the pernicious effect of the Progressive propaganda that turned you into a useful idiot, you'll realize your error and sheepishly (ie, as in a "sheepish" grin, and not as the total sheep you are now) admit that, yes, you were a useful idiot.

Establishment assiduously fostering the process behind the scenes, moved closer together and nearly met in the center with almost identical candidates and platforms, although the process was concealed as much as possible, by the revival of obsolescent or meaningless war cries and slogans (often going back to the Civil War). … The argument that the two parties should represent opposed ideals and policies, one, perhaps, of the Right and the other of the Left, is a foolish idea acceptable only to the doctrinaire and academic thinkers. Instead, the two parties should be almost identical, so that the

American people can “throw the rascals out” at any election without leading to any profound or extreme shifts in policy. … Either party in office becomes in time corrupt, tired, unenterprising, and vigorless. Then it should be possible to replace it, every four years if necessary, by the other party, which will be none of these things but will still pursue, with new vigor, approximately the same basic policies."

There are two profoundly different human social survival paradigms:

One is based on tribalism (Democrats); the other is based on wealth production or "capitalism" (Republicans).

Over human history, tribalists have been the majority of humanity, by far.

"Democracy" favors political control by the tribalists. Capitalists don't have a good story for why they don't share their wealth with tribalists, so they just try to claim they would be nicer and more efficient tribalists.

If you prefer capitalism over tribalism, don't expect a Republican to explain to you why it's better. You'll have to figure it out for yourself.

Crony Capitalism is a form of "economic tribalism" that includes both Democrat and Republican members. The Cronies like big fat (exclusive) government contracts, and they like government regulators to make rules that will take out thier competition.

Crony Republicans are not aginst "big government", they're just against the goverment giving all the business to Crony Democrats.

But feeling good about millenials not loving Republicans doesn't help anything.

What is YOUR message to millenials?

Fri, 10/31/2014 - 23:30 | 5400831 livefreediefree
livefreediefree's picture

What is YOUR message to millenials?

Damned good question; no simple answer.

The negative-based answer is: Don't elect Progressive Democrats. Doing so is equivalent to the abandonment of hope.

The positive only answer is: Vote for Scott Walker and other small-gov't Republicans because they're our only hope to toss out the Fascists.

If Republicans don't win the Senate on Tuesday, Obama will be more likely to institutionalize his Progressive coup d'etat. It makes no difference what kind of Republicans we elect in the short term, even crony/Fascist Republicans. After all, politics is pragmatism, and the excision of all receptors in the nose.

Then, hope and pray Congress does what it needs to do to stage-manage Washington politics to help elect a Republican president in 2016. If Democrats win the White House in 2016, we are shit. Even Hillary will permanently institutionalize the  vast, unelected, unionized, autocratic Progressive bureaucracy as our overlords.

Let's hope we have the upcoming crash at the right time. If it happens at the right time, we stand a good chance to really dig the rot out. Let's hope, too, that Tuesday election sends a strong message for the Republicans to build upon.

A good, strong conservative leader could change everything. Reagan did. It's amazing how much he changed shit. In the current crop, there are no good, strong conservative leaders, but hope springs eternal. Some politician should be able to figure out that the road to the Presidency is shorter, straighter, and better paved for a principled conservative than for any other ilk of politician.

Amazingly shitty, right? I sure think so, but we're picometer close to losing it all.

Congress/Senate don't matter. You may think you voted a choice-but when they arrive in DC -they will be greeted by the masters and taken out to dinner for a lesson in how the city works.

What does matter are the statehouses and governors. Only THEY have the power to reign in their Congressional representation. They can decide whether they will continue to abide by the 17th amendment-the direct election to the Federal Senate vs the state legislature election to the Federal Senate.

I really don't like such claims of a "false left right dicohtomy"; the difference (and the consequences) of left-wing and right-wing politics are very real, and are particularly felt by the disenfranchised and the underprivileged.

At the same time, the evidence does appear to corroborate yours claims, or at least partially so. A fact which I dislike  even more.

Egg-zactly.

Don't blame the Republicans for not being different; blame them for not EXPLAINING the difference.

Ronald Reagan could explain it. George W. Bush couldn't and didn't.

The left engaged in major "brand destruction" of the Republican brand during the Bush years. Bush just ignored all the trashing and assumed that "people would figure it out".  It didn't work out.

Re-establishing a tarnished brand is a very difficult proposition.  The Republicans will likely have to undertake some kind of "re-branding."

Conservative Republicans, Liberty Republicans, Tea Party Republicans, not-those-old-crony-capitalist Republicans. Whatever.

The millennials are dumping Obama because they're lining up to support Elizabeth Warren. So it'll be same shit, different politican come 2016.

Sadly they're still plugged into the Matrix. But then again, so too are the vast majority of Americans. The only thing I can take solace in is that there seems to be a growing minority of those who are seeing the system for what it truly is.

Thu, 10/30/2014 - 20:37 | 5396186 Dr. Destructo
Dr. Destructo's picture

Being a millennial (didn't vote for any candidate the last two elections) I know many more people who say 'fuck the system' than 'let's participate in it', and this is on a college campus. We millennials feel betrayed on multiple fronts: I feel betrayed for buying into the GWOT and serving the hegemony's armed forces, others feel betrayed by Obama and his empty promises. All of us were duped, and the more TPTB bullshit about the job and financial markets the more it becomes apparent that they live in a different world than we do.

We are pissed, but the bad thing is many millennials for the most part have to fight a cultural war based on the glorification of consumer whoring and reattach the severed community links that was done by 'smart' phones. I have done this already and I am bringing other people out of it through teaching others how to grow food for themselves so that the coming revolution can be sustained.

We need to fight on the food front and ensure we have the means to grow healthy and nutritious food to sustain nonviolent struggle for the long run, because as long as we depend on corporations and the government (same thing amirite?) to feed us, we'll never win.

All of our food is bought at grocery stores and produced by big ag farmers. That money then goes to fund the people we hate. I'm glad someone else out there has had the intelligence to recognize that food is where it all comes to a head.

Thu, 10/30/2014 - 22:22 | 5396568 Dr. Destructo

It's also the main component to building a proxy system; the bridge from a tyrannical government to something better. People look to governments for the guarantee of safety. If we can provide the food and water in a sustainable way (something that the current system is unable to do) we'll have a chance because Big Ag is heavily dependent on fossil fuels; once access to that resource becomes more difficult we'll see the price of food skyrocket. THAT is when we'll have a fighting chance.

The end of the USD as the global reserve currency will open up many opportunities.

I was VERY close to voting for Obama in 2008 until he supported and voted for TARP. That got me unplugged from the Matrix once I realized just how fucked the country was when even "hope and change" was voting for "business as usual". +1  I have a daughter too but she is only nine.  What is that generation going to be called?  I also have a three year old son going on four.  They both speak Russian and English well.  They love candy.

Now we have to have Halloween.  I did not get to have Halloween as a kid but neither did Mr's Russia.  Mr's Russia is going to make sure they get what we didn't because she made custom costumes for the children on the sewing machine I bought her.

Despite a $30 cash dispursement from me, Mr's Russia only bought ONE bag of candy, for the price of slightly less then $7.  I had to ask about this because I like my candy too.

Mrs. Russia said that we will wait until it goes on sale AFTER Halloween and we will get a better deal.  I could not argue with that point.  Well, she is correct and she cracks me up.  I doubt I will get any candy.  Maybe a tube of toothpaste or something.

Once people understand that all politics has devolved to "Let's pretend we're still solvent, somehow" then no other talking points matter.

Once people understand the history of fiat currency collapse, then the only thing that matters is how you will live when the latest iteration does as all others have done before.

The failure of any significant movement deemed a threat to TPTB is primarily attributed to the intelligence community infiltrating them. I won't be mirroring the hippie commune, but I will work on the premise that people need food without the strings of a monolithic government attached.

There are also some successful intentional communities that have been going on for decades; I'd recommend using Google, but Startpage is a much better search engine.

Google Dave McGowan Laurel Canyon and you will see the whole hippie movement had two purposes:

1. Derail the anti-war movement.

2. Push the drug culture because their was a lot of product coming in from LBJ's Vietnam War that had to be consumed and marketed.   Somebody had to pay for those drugs from IndoChina.  American boys were dying for it just like they are in Afghanistan.

Dr. Destructo. We've always been a country where small groups of way out individuals with a common vision can coalesce and form their own communities; eg, Pilgrims, Amish, Mormons, clitoris enviers. They all remain small. None every came close to being even close to mainstream ... except for Hippies. I was there. I was a Hippie, getting out of the Army in 1969. The Hippies that formed communies (I wasn't, just had friends who did) had will, energy, and overflowing idealism. It was fucking amazing how innocent we were. Then came Altamont.

Freddie. No. I was there. Sure, sex, drugs, and rock'n'roll played a large part in our lifestyle, but it was more. Your 2 points are like describing Obama as an organic being. It still turned to shit, but when movements embody pureness as one of the main aspects in their ethos, shit is inevitable.

CIA-Obama's mandate to reinvigorate the right-wing, evangelical Christian base of the neo-cons is right on track.

Going to be one scandal after another over the next two years around these categories:

1) Morality, especially his homosexuality.

2) Law and order, especially his, and their, deemed lack of support for the gun and badge thugs.

3) His, their, policies on "Illegals" as the cause of all that ails the economy.

4) More seemingly incompetent responses to crises, real or false-flag.

5) More of the supposed anti-Israel charade, while he, and they, are kowtowing to Israel at every turn.

6) More gutting of the military (Which is actually a good thing, but will be spun as a bad thing.)

7) More push back from the Pentagon against the CIA and their stooge in the Oval Office. (See Phoenix program reveal, Pentagon papers, Church committee, etc, for background.)

Enjoy the show.

And look for a mostly white, evangelical Christian dominated ReadyReserve to form. It is provisioned for in Obamacare.

"hopeless fucking clusterfuck of no choices in a non democratic failed republic."

But you, we Americans, do have a choice:

The most powerful weapon the American people have is Rejection.

The system of fraud and theft that has been built up upon the backs of the American people is dependent upon our backs. Withdraw our backs, and the whole scheme collapses. This is our greatest weapon.

Quit Paying--Put it into food, and precious metals, etc. They stole what ever "debt money" they loaned you in the first place (fractional reserve banking) and soon you won't be able to pay them anyways.

Quit Obeying--If they are in violation of the Constitution then they are not legitimate anyways.

Quit Playing--Quit being a tool for them to use.

The Four Rs
Rejection: Quit paying, quit obeying , quit playing
Revolution: It is inevitable, so prepare, as they are.
Retribution: The guilty must answer for their crimes against the American people and the Constitution.
Restoration: Restore the American people, country and Constitutional republic.

Now here this!  Now here this!  Democrats will keep the Senate and Republicans will retain the House.  there'll be some swaps but, all in, nothing changes because over 50% of American households receive government transfer payments (of some kind).  That and as we have learned time and time again, never understimate the stupidity of the majority voting.

Real change calls for real pain - and that my friends - aint never gonna happen.  Yellen's queing up QE4

You heard it here first - (well...maybe not).
