10 Examples Of The Extreme Incompetence That Now Pervades The Federal Government

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by Michael Snyder of The End of the American Dream blog,

There has always been a substantial level of incompetence at federal agencies, but under the Obama administration incompetence has risen to unprecedented levels.  This year the incompetence of the Secret Service, the Veterans Administration, the Department of Homeland Security and the CDC have all made national headlines.  And it is hard to forget how the launch of Obamacare was such a failure that it became a global joke.  We live at a time when our government officials can’t seem to do anything right.  When Americans complain about the government, most of the time they focus on how corrupt and wicked our politicians have become, and that should not be downplayed whatsoever.  But just replacing those politicians is not going to fix what ails our government.  The quality of the workers throughout the government bureaucracy has fallen so dramatically that our federal agencies can no longer be depended upon to perform even the most basic governmental functions competently.  The following are 10 examples of the extreme incompetence that now pervades the federal government…

#1 The Secret Service

Once upon a time, the Secret Service was considered to be one of the finest security organizations in the entire world.  But these days, they seem to be too busy partying and chasing prostitutes around to do their jobs properly.

For instance, multiple intruders have recently been able to cross the White House lawn and walk right into the White House without being stopped by anyone.  Here is just one example

An intruder made his way across the White House lawn and through the building almost to the Obama living quarters before being stopped by a Secret Service officer who was off duty: This chilling news is more than just a kind of melodramatic movie scenario come true.

Next to the military, the Secret Service is probably the most highly regarded institution within the executive branch. Or it was.

Now we learn its agents can’t catch a guy running across the White House lawn; can’t stop the guy at the front door; can’t get to him before he gets to the stairs that lead to the rooms where the president’s daughters sleep.

#2 The Obamacare Website

The launch of Obamacare overall has been a complete and total disaster, but the launch of the Obamacare website in particular was such a dramatic failure that it is hard to put into words.  The Obama administration spent more than 2 billion dollars on healthcare.gov and trumpeted it as the future of healthcare in America, but the website was a technical nightmare.  The following is how one news outlet described it…

Healthcare.gov has shutdown, crapped out, stalled, and mis-loaded so consistently that its track record for failure is challenged only by Congress.

#3 Dropping Weapons To ISIS Terrorists

It is well known that ISIS is using captured U.S. vehicles and weapons to take over vast stretches of territory in Iraq and Syria.

So what do we do?  U.S. planes drop even more weapons into the region to aid in “the fight against ISIS”, but ISIS is ending up with many of those weapons too

At least one bundle of U.S. weapons airdropped in Syria appears to have fallen into the hands of ISIS, a dangerous misfire in the American mission to speed aid to Kurdish forces making their stand in Kobani.

An ISIS-associated YouTube account posted a new video online Tuesday entitled, “Weapons and munitions dropped by American planes and landed in the areas controlled by the Islamic State in Kobani.” The video was also posted on the Twitter account of “a3maq news,” which acts as an unofficial media arm of ISIS. The outfit has previously posted videos of ISIS fighters firing American made Howitzer cannons and seizing marijuana fields in Syria.

ISIS had broadly advertised its acquisition of a broad range of U.S.-made weaponsduring its rampage across Iraq. ISIS videos have showed its fighters driving U.S. tanks, MRAPs, Humvees.

There are unconfirmed reports ISIS has stolen three fighter planes from Iraqi bases it conquered.

#4 The Immigration Crisis

The Obama administration has refused to secure our borders and has openly encouraged mass illegal immigration from Central and South America.

As a result, our border patrol is absolutely overwhelmed.  Tens of thousands of women and children are turning themselves over to border patrol agents and asking for asylum.  They expect to be taken care of and given a new life in this country.  As a result, “processing centers” along our southern border are packed to the gills with women and children living in absolutely deplorable conditions as the federal government figures out what to do with them.

#5 The VA Scandal

Under the Obama administration, military veterans have been treated like human garbage.   For years they have been denied the care that they need, and many Americans were absolutely shocked when they learned that countless veterans have died waiting to get an appointment at one of our VA facilities.  Needless to say, this scandal has greatly shaken the confidence that the public has in the Veterans Administration…

The Veterans Administration was viewed favorably by 68 percent of those polled last year. But it too has since been swept up in a scandal over long wait times for veterans seeking care and records that were falsified to camouflage the problems. In the CBS poll, just 30 percent rated the VA as doing a good job.

#6 The SEC

Many wonder why the SEC never seems to go after the big Wall Street banks.  Well, perhaps one of the reasons is because many SEC employees have been too busy watching porn all day long

One senior attorney at SEC headquarters in Washington spent up to eight hours a day accessing Internet porn, according to the report, which has yet to be released. When he filled all the space on his government computer with pornographic images, he downloaded more to CDs and DVDs that accumulated in boxes in his offices.

An SEC accountant attempted to access porn websites 1,800 times in a two-week period and had 600 pornographic images on her computer hard drive.

Another SEC accountant used his SEC-issued computer to upload his own sexually explicit videos onto porn websites he joined.

And another SEC accountant attempted to access porn sites 16,000 times in a single month.

#7 The Environmental Protection Agency

You know that things are bad at your agency when employees have to be told not to poop in the hallways

It appears, however, that a regional office has reached a new low: Management for Region 8 in Denver, Colo., wrote an email earlier this year to all staff in the area pleading with them to stop inappropriate bathroom behavior, including defecating in the hallway.

In the email, obtained by Government Executive, Deputy Regional Administrator Howard Cantor mentioned “several incidents” in the building, including clogging the toilets with paper towels and “an individual placing feces in the hallway” outside the restroom.

Confounded by what to make of this occurrence, EPA management “consulted” with workplace violence “national expert” John Nicoletti, who said that hallway feces is in fact a health and safety risk. He added the behavior was “very dangerous” and the individuals responsible would “probably escalate” their actions.

And just like the SEC, there has been a lot of porn watching going on at the EPA too.  The following is from a recent Washington Post article

In May, the Environmental Protection Agency’s inspector general disclosed that a senior-level employee was caught spending as much as six hours of his day looking at porn. The IG found that the employee had downloaded and viewed more than 7,000 pornographic files. The Justice Department is investigating further for possible prosecution.

Four months later, the employee has not been fired and is still collecting government pay, Environment & Energy Publishing reported last week.

That prompted Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) to introduce a bill the day Congress left town to make it a uniform federal government law that employees cannot look at porn at work.

#8 NASA

Generally, NASA has been regarded as one of the more competent government agencies.  That is why it is so alarming that a rocket recently exploded just before liftoff at a NASA facility in Virginia

An unmanned commercial rocket headed for the International Space Station to deliver supplies exploded just after launching Tuesday, filling the sky with a massive fireball.

The Antares rocket supplied by contractor Orbital Sciences blew up moments after liftoff at NASA’s space launch facility on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, the space agency said.

The explosion destroyed the rocket and spacecraft and immediately raised questions about the future of NASA’s reliance on private commercial ventures to carry vital payloads into space to supply and support the orbiting space station.

#9 The Federal Reserve

The Federal is NOT a government agency, but it claims such a close relationship with the government that I have added it to this list.

Since the Federal Reserve was initially created, the U.S. dollar has become more than 20 times less valuable, and the U.S. national debt has gotten more than 5000 times larger.

More recently, the Federal Reserve’s quantitative easing program has been an unmitigated failure.  The Federal Reserve created 3.5 trillion dollars out of thin air and pumped it into the financial system, but all of that money has done next to nothing for the real economy.  The percentage of Americans that are employed is about the same as it was during the depths of the last recession, the homeownership rate in this country has been falling for seven years in a row, and half of all Americans now make less than $28,031 a year.

#10 Ebola

This is the one area where the incompetence of the federal government could be the most dangerous.  Originally we were told by the CDC that Ebola could only be spread by “direct contact” with the bodily fluids of someone else.  But now we have learned that the government believes that Ebola is “aerostable“, and we have also learned that researchers have discovered that Ebola can remain on surfaces for up to 50 days.  If Ebola does start spreading widely in this country, giving people bad information could accelerate the spread of the disease.

And Barack Obama continues to refuse to ban all non-essential air travel between the United States and the nations in West Africa where Ebola is raging out of control.

As far as Obama is concerned, incompetence is the best case scenario.  There is absolutely no excuse for not protecting the American people from what could become the greatest health crisis that any of us have ever seen.  If a major Ebola pandemic does erupt in this country, the blood of countless numbers of Americans could potentially be on his hands.

Example of incompetence #1- not printing debt-free money to put into the economy without need to be paid back.

Inventor Thomas Edison put it this way: “If our nation can issue a dollar bond, it can issue a dollar bill. The element that makes the bond good makes the bill good.

” … It is absurd to say that our country can issue $30,000,000 in bonds and not $30,000,000 in currency. Both are promises to pay; but one promise fattens the Jew, and the other helps the people.”

Where do we begin with the previous administration:   1. Prevented the attack on World Trade Center. 2. Prevented attack on Pentagon. 3. Attacked the wrong country on a known lie. 4. Said getting Bin Laden did not matter. 5. Sent the country into a depression. 6. Did not care about the victims from Katrina. Let them die until Fox News, (go figure), got their attention. 7. Gave us a new department because he did not trust the CIA, FBI or Secret Service to hide his incompetence called Homeland Security. 8. Created the Patriot Act. 9. Bailed out all his Banking Buddies under Hank and Neel Kashkari. 9. Did not put anybody in Jail for stealing all the money from the Financial Crisis. 10. Thinking that Iraqis would welcome liberation and immediately embrace Western-style democracy giving us a new land to occupy forever. 11. Ramming through a massive new, unfunded Medicare drug benefit when the system was already broke. 12. Giving tax breaks and tax credits to the rich at a time of a unfunded war. 13. Telling us the war would pay for itself. 14. Gave us Wiretapping. 15.Suspended the Bill of Rights under Habaes Coupus. 16. Ignoring the Pre-9.11 Memo on Terror. 17.Mission Accomplished. 18. Outing of Valerie Plame's cover came from Cheney himself as retribution for her husband's refusal to play part in the Administration's manipulation of evidence justifying the invasion of Iraq. 19. Appointing and backing the unqualifed Alberto Ganzales after the resignation of John Ashcroft. 20. Bush took away prohibition against giving cash bonuses to political appointees. 21. Crashed the Stock Market. I could keep going.

The point is simple. Bambi is Bambi. No doubt. But who was worse. I kind of think the Bush administration wins hands down considering the real cost of Dollars to taxpayers, Lives Lost on the homeland plus the war, and Taking away our Freedoms. It is no contest. Even Nixon was better, he just got caught.

What the author misses is that every single department, bureau, office, nook, and cranny of our federal bureaucracy has been politicized by the Obama administration. No stone has been left unturned. There is no "incompetence", just pure politics. Every decision, every action, must serve a political end. The ostensible mission of each department is relevant only to the degree that that department can serve a political end. If a problem arises that offers no immediate opportunity to advance the political agenda, it is ignored until it does offer an opportunity. When problems are ignored, it creates the appearance of incompetence, but that simply distracts us from what is actually happening, which is the exercise of political power.

A better question is, what is that power being used to do? Once we frame the question that way, we can see the answer is obvious-- to loot, undermine, destabilize, and destroy this nation.

The next questions are: why? And, for whose benefit? While always keeping in mind FDR's observation that "in politics, nothing happens by accident. If it happens, you can bet it was planned that way."

The incompetence is meant to create pathos, when the correct response is anger at the wantonness. Cui bono? First, the haters of America; second the financial manipulators and finally the unexpected by the first two, a Neo-Napoleon.

You missed my point, which was that "incompetence" is irrelevant and an unintended byproduct. They don't care how they appear to you; it's irrelevant to what they are trying to accomplish. You don't matter; what you think doesn't matter; unless of course you actively try to oppose them. Then you will be dealt with, with fairly surprising efficiency.

Let's be charitable and say incompetence. I have managed large Organisations and I know that how I managed in my last 5 years, would not have been possible without the prior 35 years.

Obumboy has no experience managing anything, which is the heart of the problem. On top of that, he has a political Agenda (Which is Socialism although in The US, that is a bit like Voldermort; it cannot be mentioned by name and revenge on the WASP's) so he looks at every situation in terms of Red/Blue advantage. Because of the latter, he surrounds himself with political hacks (Latest example: Obola Czar), rathet than competent, seasoned Managers, which further compounds the problem.

And next comes "Corporations don't create jobs" , "What difference does it make", Hillary.

The main issue here is why do you Americans continue to elect such useless assholes as President. As the old saying goes, "In a democracy (And even more so in a Constitutional Republic), you get the Government you deserve".

You must work for the USPS.

INCOMPETENCE is as old as the hills, when it comes to ALL 'governments' (including the CONUS).

It isn't OBAMA. It's the CULTURE. It'a WORLDWIDE SYSTEMIC PROBLEM, in fact.

The REAL 'free-shit army' stems from the ability to get hired in a GOVERNMENT job and be assured of 40 years of ever-increasing pay for doing NOTHING while bragging about it (and taking NO RESPONSIBILITY for ANYTHING AT ALL, at the same time).

Frankly, you might want to apply for a job at the EPA (where you can still surf porn and shit in the hallways while collecting a paycheck). NIXON established the EPA during HIS tenure (NOT Obama).

I have no disagreement with you there and, no, I was CEO of large Private Corporations and NEVERworked in Government. You seem to be missing my point that Obama, Hillary are all the same thing, so why do you keep electing these people? It's your country, not mine, but it has become a common problem globally.

Administrative law is not admirality law, however admirality law can be used in administrative procedures. During and after the so called Reconstruction Era and the War of Northern Aggression all sorts unconstitutional acts took place. How admirality law has jurisdiction on the land is another whole can of worms. This is the era that highlighted the use of emergencies and executive orders. I have heard about the gold fringe for many years and never have seen any documented evidence of why it exists. Plenty of theories out there that my have some validity.

Well, yes, I was an alive hippy.  I remember Nixon extended the Vietnam War for three needless years after he and Kissinger concluded that Vietnam was a lost war.  More than half of the US soldier casualties occurred during thiese years.  Agnew took bribes.  Nixon abandoned the gold standard.  Nixon went hysterical and declared a war on drugs, increased sentences, and strengthed the DEA/FBI.  Nixon invited China into the WTO without wage floors/unionization rights. Then there was Watergate.

The list of Obama's incompetencies are minor compared to Nixon.

OT:  Bush/Cheney (under PNAC suggestion) allowed the false-flag 9/11 attacks, the Patriot Act, the Iraq/Afghanistan wars.

Do you understand the devastating consequences of purely fiat currency?  Thank Nixon.  Do you understand the consequences of China's entry into the WTO?  Much of US manufacturing capacity fled to China.  Now we have 92 million discouraged/unemployed people in the US. Thank Nixon.  Do you understand that the backlash against pot smoking hippies caused millions of people to wither away in jail with mindless sentences for victumless crimes?  Thank Nixon.  Lastly, 25,000 US soldiers died needlessly in Vietnam only because Nixon wanted a second term.

Now, look at the list offered above.  Half of them are transitory.

Herr Frieden over at CDC wants to set up yet another check in line to monitor everyones temperature for God's sake, even after the full cavity search by the TSA! Government by it's very nature is incompetent. It attracts those who cannot function outside a very protected environment. The few who enter with good intentions never have a chance. Success in government is just survival. All that government actually accomplishes is done by competent people outside the government paid to do it. The government then takes credit.

If we as people were wise (and confident) we would hire out every single service that the government performs...and don't tell me the military can't have it's functions farmed out...it already does this.

Start with vouchers for vets...the VA system has been nothing but a patronage gimick since day one.

There are two basic types of people who get "public service jobs".

1. Those who have little to no ambition.  Gimme a paycheck for doing nothing.

2. Those who have sociopathic ambition.  Gimme power over everything and everyone.

The chasm is vast between them and that causes the systemic incompetence in general.

I was going to withhold comment.

But since Michael Synder is full of shit and you are even worse...

Let us look at #8 NASA...

The Antares Rocket which exploded after liftoff...not shortly before liftoff as Synder reported...is an ANTARES Rocket, a relatively new design, provided by Orbital Sciences, a PRIVATE Aerospace Company. Here is the quote from the article

That is why it is so alarming that a rocket recently exploded just before liftoff at a NASA facility in Virginia

Well I am not alarmed.

The ANTARES was developed under the COTS Program (Commercial Orbital Transportation Systems) initiated by the Bush Administration in order to provide Commercial Low Cost Services  to provide material support to Low Earth Orbit Operations (the International Space Station).

This would take some of the burden for supplying that $100 Billion Orbiting Laboratory, which NASA basically constructed, from the Russians, the European Space Agency, as well as the Japan Space Agency, JAXA.

Ideally the COTS Program, of which Elon Musk and his Falcon IX Rocket along with Dragon, is a sponsored contractor, would free up NASA Engineers to design and build the hardware for Project Constellation, Human Exploration and establishment of a Lunar Laboratory and Colony...which...Obama killed...due to NASA Administrator Mike Griffin's totally incompetent misallocations of Research and Development Funds.

Of course parts remain as Orion is going to be lofted by a Delta IV Heavy Lift Launch Vehicle, unmanned, into a extremely high Sub Orbital trajectory to test the dynamics of an extreme speed Atmospherice Reentry and deployment of Recovery Systems, happening sometime at the beginning of next month.

But the points are...

#1) Mike Synder is full of shit as that was a Private Company, Orbital Sciences, which was launching from NASA's Wallops Island Pad Facilities that was responsible for the loss of that Launch Vehicle. Furthermore the ANTARES is a new and yet unproven design.

I agree that it was "farmed out".  But the result was a Catastrophic Loss of the LV...a CATO in my parlance.

#2) It is a RARITY...But sometimes the US Government actually performs better than Private Industry...AS IT IS A CORPORATION due to an 19th Century Law passed in 1873.

To my junker. You can disagree all that you want. But I have reported factual information. It does not change the truth.

Son,

You'd best check your historical facts regarding what you call 'NASA'. It was originally 'NACA'. It WASN'T a GOVERNMENT thing at all (until the FEDS took it over and shoved their brand of shit in it's mouth). They did a really GOOD thing, letting Columbia take off in 'less than optimum' conditions, didn't THEY? Apollo 1? Apollo 13? Challenger?

They were using a fucking 1960's BUILT RUSSIAN rocket engine for fuck's sakes. No choice, though, because your GOVERNMENT HEROES over at NASA have shut down ANY rocketry for fucking GOOD.

The Act of 1871. NOT 1873.

Opinions are like assholes. Facts work MUCH better (should you care to check them before spouting off).

Having dropped ordnance in another time and another war, You can't really blame the military for one of the drops being captured by ISIS. The fact is that was pretty good odds. In Vietnam, we planned for 40% losses.

You might want to consider replacing the ordnance drops with the handling of the Snowden case instead. How can a super top secret government operation let a contractor take all that data?

The question was about competence in the government, not a judgement on Snowden. Whether you agree with what he did or not, it was incompetence in government that made it possible.

Some bitch I forget her name. A nobody, a nothing, a defense departmetn office woman with some pathetic title. In any case, this was back in the 90's. This woman leaked the story about blowjob and soiled dress and the whole works to the press. What everyone, but me, missed was this woman was an employee of defense, but no press person could find out what her job was, she an office and a title, something to do with purchasing. It was just a little shit job, her anual salary was 90K + in the 1990's! Would be 190K today. Defense was paying every little shit in the Pentagon nearly 100K a year!

Don't forget how the government handles H-1B visas.  Firms that apply for H-1B's are receiving literally hundreds of qualified resumes from qualified applicants (if they bother to make a good faith effort).  Firms throw those resumes away, and cry to the government for H-1B visas for their chosen, low-cost foreigners.  While domestic candidates basically rot.

Just a quick correction.  H-1Bs don't even require the firms to prove they couldn't find someone else.  You just apply and prove that you're paying at the "prevailing wage" (which is another BS government statistic).  The part of the process you're thinking of is used for the EB-2/EB-3 permanent residency.  Yep, you got it - for people to get green cards there is a process called PERM labor certification.  This process requires posting of ads and exclusion of the (domestic) applicants before the Department of Labor will approve the certification...while domestic candidates basically rot.

Nevermind that much of the tech work in the US isn't only done by foreigners at US companies, but by FOREIGN companies that establish a subsidiary in the US (very easy to do, even online) and then "transfer" their employees to the US.  Sometimes they hire Americans, but why would you do that if you're moving people to the US as part of their benefits package.  Sucker Americans are already there.

EU mind bender, you're a coat tail rider who has no responsibility for spending habits. The money flows in as aid. Once you lose the USD aid host, fiscal responsibility will ring bells throughout EU.

Make no mistake, government never aims to be competent.

It's real and sole purpose is to give "legality" to people who use deception and coercion to take what they would otherwise have no right to, to use force to control people they should have no right to control, and to kill without consequence.  All the rest is just a dog and pony show.

In other words it gives "legitimacy" to what is essentially organized crime

The author misses the point: Progressives couldn't give a fuck if what they wrought works; eg, have you ever met a Handyman who was a Progressive? No. We've all met Mouthmen and Intentionstrumpresultsmen and Theendsjustifiesthemeansmen who are Progressive, but never Handymen. Handymen need to fix things and make them work.

Whereas, we have a gaggle of information givers, snotty nosed liars, and TV-tricksters that are far moar practiced at deceiving and propagating fear using lies and mis/dis-information, than they are at telling the simple truth. Meanwhile, the world falls.

Make this go viral.:

VOTE OUT ALL INCUMBENTS!

Do not be stupid and ask for the same old carp we have all seen for the last three decades by voting for any of the darn incumbents again. No moar puppet cronyism. No moar open borders. No moar lack-toast attitude towards the obola. NO MOAR WAR for the bankster/MIC profiteers. Bring all our troops home NOW! Stop supporting murderous nazi juntas. Stop supporting the murder of the Palestinian people!

NO MOAR NO MOAR NO MOAR.

VOTE OUT ALL INCUMBENTS TOMORROW!

Just for fun.:

I loved this from Taranto/WSJ;

"Some might argue that the problem is Congress itself—that those quaint 19th-century “checks” and “balances” are dangerous anachronisms and the nation would be better off with a completely revamped system of government. Three branches: the executive, the pen and the phone."

According to Sprott Global Resource Investments Limited:

http://sprottglobal.com/thoughts/articles/what-greenspan-latest-talk-means-for-gold/

Friday, October 31, 2014

I traveled last week to the New Orleans Investment Conference, previously known as the ‘Gold Show.’ Jim Blanchard, a man known for promoting the right to own gold during the Nixon era, started the conference in 1974.

Early on, the conference was a gathering place for investors in precious metals. Speakers such as Rick Rule broke out into the investment scene through conferences like this one.

I’ll report later on the many speakers who attended the conference - and try to boil down some of the salient points from the highly valuable conference (attendees took nearly a week away from their regular lives to attend).

For now, I’ll confine myself to the headline speaker of the show – former Fed Chairman Alan Greenspan – and what his comments could mean for gold investors.

We did, though, learn a few important things about the Fed.

First off, Greenspan claims he has always remained true to Austrian economics and the principle of sound money. He fell into his role as Fed Chairman purely by accident, he claimed, and what he did there, he did it because he had to.

He explained that the capital needs of the Federal government were so massive that the only way to prevent disaster for the rest of the economy was to keep feeding the beast with cheap money. If the Fed hadn’t created and circulated new money, the Treasury’s insatiable demand for capital would certainly have ‘crowded out’ the rest of the economy, wrecking the entire private credit system.

Political realities, he explained, in the form of entitlement spending and off-balance sheet obligations of the US government, trump the need for sound money every time. It wasn’t his fault – that’s just how the system works. It’s set up to redistribute income from savers, who lose income because of low interest rates, to spenders.

In other words, Greenspan was a man who was forced by circumstance to go against his beliefs. Coming to the show, I had expected to disagree with Greenspan, but what I found was that the Fed Chairman was saying exactly what we have believed all along. Sound, stable currency is incompatible with the welfare state. Greenspan may have slipped away from the path, but he’s a great spokesperson for our message.

The Fed is unlike any other business in the world. It’s the only one that we know of that literally creates ‘something from nothing.’

The Fed wills new currency into existence, which it can then ‘sell’ by charging interest. Every dollar comes into existence as a debt due to the Fed; the more dollars are out there, the more money the Fed makes. The interest it receives is ‘pure profit.’ So it’s no surprise that as the government’s demand for capital has increased, the Fed has ‘accommodated’ that demand. Even if the Fed has to lend the government the money to pay its interest, that new money costs nothing to create, and it adds to the bottom line.

We did get one striking admission out of Greenspan. The Fed is not independent of the government, he said, calling suggestions to the contrary ‘naïve.’

Greenspan didn’t speak much to role of the Fed. He didn’t talk about inflation targets, or comment on how the Fed could help grow the economy, as he would have if it had been a New York Times interview I’m sure.

Hidden in his answers, however, was a big prediction for how the Fed will likely act in the future.

It’s not about juicing the economy or keeping the currency stable, although those are certainly justifications that are used.

The truth is, the Fed is merely adjusting supply to meet demand. That’s what he meant when he said that the Fed had to increase the supply of debt to avoid the private sector being ‘crowded out’ of the market.

Its mission isn’t to keep the currency stable, it’s to help fund the spending of the US government, and to defend the banking system.

This suggests that as long the US government resort to high levels of debt, the Fed isn’t likely to decrease the supply of money.

Greenspan might have an inkling of something he’s not telling.

Here’s what the former Fed Chairman had to say about the direction of gold and interest rates:

“Gold – measurably higher. Interest rates – measurably higher.”
