Russia Conducts Full "Nuclear Triad" Drill, Launches Topol-M ICBM

Tyler Durden's picture

While east Ukraine, aka the Donetsk Republic, was voting over the weekend in what the west pre-emptively classified as another sham vote as its outcome would merely push east Ukraine even closer to the Kremlin, Russia was busy conducting its most comprehensive Nuclear preparedness drill in recent history, one involving the entire "nuclear triad" consisting of strategic bombers; submarines and an the ICBM shown below on Saturday morning.

As reported earlier by the Barents Observer, the silo-based Topol-M intercontinental ballistic missile was launched from Plesetsk in Arkhangelsk Oblast. A few minutes later, the dummy nuclear warhead hits its target on the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia’s far eastern corner, the Ministry of Defense reports.

The Ministry, conveniently, adds that the Topol-M missile has an “extremely high accuracy of target destruction.”

This took place after a close encounter on Friday, when Norwegian F-16s were scrambled from Bodø airbase for the second time this week as a group of four Tu-95 strategic bombers were approaching from the northeast, Norway’s TV2 reports. The bombers, flying out over the Barents Sea from Russia’s Kola Peninsula, were accompanied by four Il-78 tankers.

On Wednesday, a similar group of four strategic bombers and four tanker aircrafts were flying southbound along Norway’s northern coast. Six of the aircrafts turned around and flew north again over the Norwegian- and Barents Seas before heading home to Russia. The two last flew all the way south to outside Portuguese airspace before heading north again.

After scrambling fighter jets from Norway and Great Britian, NATO said in a statement that the Russian bombers pose a risk to civilian air traffic.

“The bomber and tanker aircraft from Russia did not file flight plans or maintain radio contact with civilian air traffic control authorities and they were not using on-board transponders. This poses a potential risk to civil aviation as civilian air traffic control cannot detect these aircraft or ensure there is no interference with civilian air traffic,” NATO said.

Tu-95 is a turboprop aircraft built during the Cold War to carry nuclear weapons and is because of its long range included in the strategic nuclear forces.

And then there were the nuclear subs (of which one was supposedly lost somewhere near Stockholm only for the rumor to be quietly vaporized).

The third arm of Russia’s nuclear triad, the submarine based ballistic missiles (SLBM), were tested on Wednesday, when “Yury Dolgorukylaunhced a Bulava missile from submerged position in the Barents Sea.

This was the first operational test launch of Bulava in line with the program of combat training. All previous launches were part of development testing of the new weapon.

It is also the first time a Borey-class submarine had a full set of missiles on board when the launch was conducted. The Borey-class submarines carries 16 missiles that each may hold as many as 10 nuclear warheads. “Yury Dolgoruky” got her full set of Bulava missiles in June this year.

Divided States, Puin preps the general pop for hardships but I am afraid the elite in Russia will not be sharing the coming hardships equally.  Putin's agreement to sell gas to WUkrain even though they are killing Russia's "friends" in EUkrain and have declared Russia their mortal enemy is an example.  It is profits before Russia itself. (Not to mention WUkrain plans to have NATO missiles along the Russian border.)

Due to Putin's inaction while other friendly countries are destroyed he needs to fire off a couple missiles to show he will not allow Russia's borders to be crossed or compromised (but is destined to have NATO along his borders not protected by China).  Right now he may be more worried about oil and gas fields off of Russia's coasts than land incursions.

Russia has fangs but the rattling noise does no good as this was already known, and the mongoose relentlessly positions and corners him,

Perhaps these shows are to remind the west that even after Russia is surrounded with a full missile defense that their subs will prevent a first strike.

Putin and Russia will pay for allowing it's allies to be destroyed and being fearful of taking a stand years ago.  Putin has shown Russia in not to be counted on, better to try to make a deal with the devil and allow the devil to move on to Russia.  Instead of Russia being able to use gas as a weapon the west will put Russia in a hold where Russia is afraid or incapable of stopping gas flow.

The newcons who have been leading America's foreign policy have never met a war they did not like. These chickenhawks have never served and their children are ensconsced safely away from any war:

Putin points to growing war dangers

By Nick Beams
1 November 2014

Russian President Vladimir Putin has bluntly warned that actions by the United States, violating norms that have governed international relations since the end of World War II, could lead to war.

His declaration came in an October 24 speech delivered at a meeting organised by the Valdai International Discussion Club in the Russian winter resort of Sochi. The theme for the discussions,  attended by journalists, foreign policy experts and academics from Russia and internationally, wasWorld Order: New Rules or a Game without Rules.

Putin began, “this formula accurately describes the historic turning point we have reached today and the choice we all face ... [C]hanges in the world order—and what we are seeing today are events on this scale—have usually been accompanied by, if not global war and conflict, then by chains of intensive local-level conflicts.”

Putin’s speech comprised a series of indictments of US foreign policy since the end of the Cold War. The US, he said, having declared itself the victor, saw no need to establish “a new balance of power, essential for maintaining order and stability” but instead “took steps that threw the system into sharp and deep imbalance.”

Apart from bombing some captive brown people, no country can afford to go into a full scale war. Neither US nor Russia. The know the energy situation.

US cannot fix Detroit or other run down States even in peace time, can you imagine who will reconstruct after a war?

Same goes for Russia, they have not even fully developed yet, despite all the home grown natural resources. They dont have enough to sell as well as consume locally.

It wil just be proxy wars carried out by private armies like XE, blackwater, ISIS etc. Even Reguler National armies are getting unaffordable.

the Detroit "fix" is in - selling blocks of sur-Real Estate to Chinese investors, sight unseen, turning off the water for current residents, perhaps "encouraging" them to vacate/disperse?  at least until their dwellings can be sold off, then rented back to them. . .

war is ongoing, just hasn't "arrived" for many here. . . yet.

and yes, the mercenaries will be the next "front" to fight - although some are called "police" for now, they're all paid to do as they're told, and the package includes the "right" to pillage the village.

nothing new in history.

They tried a number of times in the last few years, but given the aggression in Ukraine from NATO and economic sanctions, Putin must flex Russia's muscles with threat to avoid becoming an easy assassination.

It's also been a war of information. Russia has played some good cards, first with the leak of the Bandar Bush/Putin meeting, then stepping it up with the leaked phone calls of Nuland/Ashton/Polish FM. Those intercepts were some of their biggest intelligence assets but the content exposed to the public was probably even more important. I think they leave no question as to what the truth is and who is the aggressor. But 2 can play the divide and conquer game. I'm waiting for Russia(and China) to play it against the US and the West. A few truth bombs with a cache of evidence can unleash civil war overnight.

It's a gamble to tell the West, "Don't keep fucking with us while you destroy yourselves". I'm not sure it was wise but considering the Saudi/US oil price situation, the sanctions, Ukraine and Syria, this ultimate warning is understandable I suppose.

The thing is, the rhetoric and lies are so thick in the msm about these bears flying around in international airspace, it could lead to an escalation within seconds (A nuke armed B2 bomber testing Siberian air defence for example, setting off a retalitory strike). I don't think we have a lot of sane people left who are aware of the grave consequences in the chain of command any more.

it's clear Moscow is planning for war and has been for some time now. but things are developing so fast it's hard to know what the final trigger will be. the so called "missile defense shield"? i have no doubt that would trigger a military strike by Russia but things are so tense right now that it might not take that...

the west has already declared economic war on Russia via the sanctions they have imposed for no moral or logical reason. those actions put us all in danger right from the start and Putin has actually showed remarkable restriant in the face of such agression...so far.

but for how much longer?

can war be avoided at this point? yes but only if the western PTB's can be brought under control, the MDS scrapped in total, the sanctions lifted and a true re-set with Russia is enacted. sadly none of those things seem likely to happen as Washington is clearly out to destroy Putin and the Russian federation as a strong independant nation.

"compitition is a sin"

I have no doubt that NATO will use the current sisuation to further justify the MDS and other military actions targeted at Russia as this drags on. after all Obama did pretty much seal our fate when he lumped Russian and Putin in the same catagory as ISIS in terms of threats to world peace and security at the UN.

stay tuned...

The Chinese call him "Putin the Great" because, per the WSJ, “he’s seen by the Chinese people as a strong leader who isn’t afraid to confront the West."

That recognition of Putin’s strength is all that’s holding back NATO and Obama from a direct confrontation with Putin in service to their one-world government masters, headquartered at the Fed.

Yet, it's still war, at any cost. Political commentator, Mahdi Darius Nazemroaya, said yesterday in an interview with Press TV from Ottawa that the “noises” coming out of Washington DC and Brussels will “obstruct a peaceful settlement in Ukraine.”

According to Global Research:”The analyst also cast doubt on the legitimacy of the recent snap parliamentary elections in Ukraine, saying the restive eastern regions were marginalized and excluded from the votes.”

At the same time, former U.S. Attorney Genneral Ramsey Clark in an open letter has called upon Barack Obama to stop his aggression in Ukraine “before the hell of war breaks loose!”

In his letter to President Obama, Senator McCain, Secretary Kerry, Secretary-General Ban, Members of Congress, and Members of the Media Clark wrote”

“Sending U.S. destroyers into the Black Sea and the Baltic Sea; scheduling threatening U.S./NATO war games and troop movements in East Europe; and imposing sanctions on the Russian Federation is a threat to peace on a world scale. We have seen the cost of past and continuing U.S. wars, which enrich the military corporations while impoverishing the targeted countries as well as poor and working people here in the U.S.

“The years of U.S. funding of fascist forces in Ukraine and the recognition of a government in Kiev that overthrew the elected government, seized power and appointed extreme right-wing groups to head the police, army and national guard in order to pull Ukraine into NATO membership makes the U.S. complicit in the complete denial of the rights of the Ukrainian people. It is also a provocation against the entire region.”

I kind of dislike Putin. Not becuase he is a dictator or such.

But because, He is an old timer. He does not believe financial engineering can help real economy.

He protects his people and his country by careful monitoring all financial Institutions.

He does not really like private companies. He prefer doing all economic activities through Government companies.

He is very careful about trading with other countries. His administration places enough obstacles to market entry.

Having said all that, I feel Putin's policies is going to save Russia. And USA which played every financial engineering games that could be imagined, is going to see the day of reckoning soon. SO.... I kind of dislike Putin...
