Obama May Have To Shut Down Government To Halt The Keystone Pipeline
It would appear the first big test for President Obama's 'veto' pen will be no lesser issue than the Keystone Pipeline. Reuters reports that Republicans will quickly introduce stand-alone legislation in the first quarter of 2015 that would approve the Keystone XL crude oil pipeline from Canada, Republican Senator John Hoeven said in an interview. "It's really a good chance to see if the president's willing to work with us," Hoeven said, suggesting they would pressure Obama to act one way or another by attaching the bill to some must-pass legislation leaving Obama's only option but to fold or shut down the government. As Reince Priebus exclaimed, "he's going to be boxed in."

Republicans will quickly introduce stand-alone legislation in the first quarter of 2015 that would approve the Keystone XL crude oil pipeline from Canada, Republican Senator John Hoeven said in an interview.
"I think Keystone will be one of the first bills we'll be able to put up in the new Congress," said Hoeven, from the oil-rich state of North Dakota.
"I've got a bill right now that's got about 56 cosponsors. And with the election results, we'll have over 60 who clearly support the legislation," he said.
"It's really a good chance to see if the president's willing to work with us," Hoeven said. If President Barack Obama vetoes the bill, Republicans would seek to attach it to must-pass legislation on other energy or appropriations issues, Hoeven said.

The background on Keystone (via FOX)
The TransCanada-built pipeline, which would cross over an aquifer in Nebraska, has been held up for six years by environmental and even diplomatic concerns. President Obama, under pressure from environmental groups, has repeatedly ordered reviews by the State Department.
Proponents say the alternative of transporting the oil south by rail is more of an environmental risk, and say the Phase IV expansion would bring more than 800,000 barrels of oil per day to U.S. refineries from Canada and the Bakken region. The American Petroleum Institute claims a fully built pipeline could support 42,000 jobs and as many as 500,000 additional jobs in the U.S. by 2035.

“I actually think the president will sign the bill on the Keystone pipeline because I think the pressure — he’s going to be boxed in on that, and I think it’s going to happen,” Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus said Tuesday.

Bless this pipeline bill....to take away bidness from Uncle Warren's railrroads?
Really???
Priceless....
The lobbying will be furious.
Six years is more than enough time for idle bitching by those who never had a real job.
Time to shit, or get off the pot.
As long as Obama is President working for Warren Buffett the pipeline will never be built. Period.
The November 4th U.S. Butt Election
It's a start, I guess...I'm still waiting for Uncle Warren to cut that check to the Treasury so he can pay his "fair share" that he wants everyone else to pay.
Also waiting for that fuck McCain to drop but just like the other fuck just mentioned it's a waiting game. It must be some kind of cosmic joke that these assholes seem to live forever.
Do we have a dead pool for McCain in '15?
I'd be shocked if it was before 2020.
Warner Buffett's trains of death must keep rolling along. Small towns destroyed in massive fireballs be damned!
If the Keystone gets approved, Warren would just lobby Preezy for an extended national emergency, plus a contract to handle a chunk of the FEMAcamp transport contract.
How may FEMAns can you fit in a tank car?
Depends on whether they've been fully or only partially liquidated,
Welcome to Soylent Petro; mourners attending your service receive this handsomely bound coupon for $.05 off every gallon of you they put in their tank, isn't that nice?
Congress can pass it. He can sign it. Who exactly will control implementation? Oh right...
Yes! Tar Sands to US Refineries. Smarter than across the Canadian shield. Fortress NorthAmerica. Good for Canada, good for USA.
Dumb Ass Republicans; it's not Obozzo you have to worry about! It never was. It's Valerie Jarrett you Dumkoffs...
I still fail to see why we should give a rats ass about this pipeline. There are pipelines going in literally everywhere right now. And isn't this pipeline supposed to be full of Canadian tar crude with a splash of US light sweet just so that the sludge will move? Obama has been in office for the duration of this oil boom, he is obviously friendly to the oilies. This pipeline seems like a big distraction to me.
Not all crude is created equal. Tar sand heavy crude is cheaper than Bakken light.
So, we could say, drill baby drill actually works, as far as supply & demand and market prices? Whocouldanoed.
If you like your sub-five dollar a gallon gas, you can keep it ;-)
Here's an idea... Three of my six grandkids are already old enough to be driving. If we could just use up all the oil before the other three get their licenses in a couple of years they won't have to worry about all that 'car stuff' like some generations had to do.
Just iPhones and tattoos from then on. Think of the money they'll save...
Your grandkids will have gas, unless central planners convince them to ride a bus ;-)
You can't explain that to a Peak Oil Theorist. They buy what ever the government is selling. Although I have to say.
The Kock Brothers would be jumping for joy. Since the government will pay for it and they will profit from refining all that sludge.
If it wasn't sludge I might buy in, but that bastard is going to leak all over the place in years coming.
They think fracking can ruin good water. Just Wait. lt will be really SAD.
The Alaskan pipeline has spilled less than 700 barrels of oil per year since it opened in 1977. That's in a much harsher climate than the proposed Keystone. The Koch refineries are not calibrated to handle the very low API-gravity oil coming out of the Canadian tar sands. The primary US commercial beneficiaries would be Gulf Coast refiners like VLO, followed by light, sweet Bakkan producers. The enviro-freek shit-fit is related to the effort to keep tar-sands from ANY marketplace. Unfortunately, these bastards do not include an economic analysis of job benefits to Americans, strategic benefits to having this oil processed in the US, and keeping the raw inputs from travelling overseas to Asian refineries. I guess the enviro-freaks would rather be ass-raped by Islamic raiders than give hard working Americans the opportunity to provide for their families while serving to keep America strong.
I hope they run that right through your yard, fool. Pipelines spill ALL the time.

"The Transocean Deepwater Horizon is unsinkable suh! UNSINKABLE!"
Thinking about this pipeline Bullshit makes me wonder one thing. Canada likes jobs too.
Why don't they refine their own sand sludge and make the money. Oh, don't tell me because it's bad for the environment.
So we will import garbage through a pipeline so that the Kock Brothers can destroy American land.
Never go full retard. That Canadian syncrude is going to a marketplace somewhere. It can either be hauled via Greek-registered tanker to India for refining, and then on to the Asian products market, or it can be piped to US job centers. You are the type who sneers at 'flyover country', so it's not like you are taking your family on a sightseeing car trip through this area. And just stop with the dire pipeline leakage predictions. Show me where the Alaskan pipeline was an environmental disaster. Let me give you a hint - ITS THE TANKERS RUNNING AGROUND THAT DO THE BIG DAMAGE.
Before the election the Canadians were planning a pipeline EAST toward the Atlantic to get around Obama and XL. Canada is producing and they have every intention of selling it to refiners, its going onto the market one way or the other.
Period.
End of story.
And literally, the night before the Canadian election, when the dead guy posed a credible threat to Harper's majority, Obama announced they got OBL. What a coinkidinks, and imagine the typical voter Monday morning mulling over the Harper conservative sound drumming "fragile, must not ROCK THE V/Boat" message they'd been hearing for two weeks.
ALL your oilsands is belongs to US
LOL, we'll be collectin/"marketing" one daycade, we'll let you know Canada...

Some real dipshiit myopics on this thread
I am a Republican voter and this pipeline makes zero sense. Why do you need to ship tar sands oil 2000 miles down to the Houston refineies? To export for the Government tax whores? FU Canada. Ship it out of Vancouver or another Midwest refinery. http://www.refinerymaps.com There are hundreds of refineries that are closer than Houston. This is just plain stupid.
Canada doesnt care anymore, its going to be sending it east through mostly existing pipelines. The reason it was delayed was buffy makes money moving the exact same oil to and from the exact same places by rail, and he paid obie a lot of campaign money.
You're a fucking economic illiterate is what you are.
How the fuck would YOU know whether this is going to be profitable or not?
Why the fuck would a THE INVESTORS be willing to do this if it weren't?
Granted, some investments fail, but I would prefer to leave the decisions about resource allocation to the people who've been proved competent at such decisions in the past (i.e. investors) than put it up to a vote by economically illiterate cunt voters like yourself, or their cunt representatives in government.
Your comment wasn't just plain stupid... until the last two sentences. Oil is not fungible like fiat and re-configuring existing refinerIES to process that much tar sludge is a series of multi-billion dollar investments that would then render the refineries incapable of processing the current feedstock.
Shipping the oil thousands of miles to the gulf coast where refineries process the ghost of Hugo Chavez's "sulfur stench" sludge doesn't make sense either (but then CapEx is almost as unpopular as permitting new refineries in the USSA).
The best answer is to find the closest body of water (navigable by tankers to bring in the other raw materials for refining and bring out any finished products not transferred by pipeline further "downhill") and build a new refinery right there (making sure that it is on the US shore/ side of the border).
Yeah, that refinery entitlement and construction is so a quick and easy
The oil is not being exported, from North America that is.
This pipedream pipeline is DOA due to common sense. It is an illconceived idea from tax export whores.
Yippy, somebody else gets it. It's a political football for swing voters. Although there are fewest ever now.
The pipeline is like abortion, guns, religion, pay wages for the masses and war.
You just dont get it. There is no cure for stupid. Please suck-start a shotgun and do your part to create a cleaner environment.
Common sense? Are you high?
No. It's just plain old graft. People have already died because of it. The oil is coming one way or another. In this case Buffet and his railroad benefit from a blocked pipeline. Obama and Dems benefit with campaign cash. Statistically, pipelines are by a wide margin much safer than shipping oil by train or truck. Not even debatable. Pipelines carrying oil, gas etc. crisscross the nation with very few accidents per unit piped. The pipeline between Texas and Virginia ships over a million gallons a day. They even have spacers in the pipes that separate different kinds of liquid. There have been accidents through the years but miniscule compared to the volume shipped. Truck and train have a much higher rate of mishap. THOSE ARE FACTS. Google the accidents in Canada and northern US in the last year or two. A town was nearly vaporized last year.
More like the Keystone Kops.
He will not do it, because of Warren Buffet's interests and his own personal demons.
Complaints are way up on northern railroads - moving oil instead of grains, timeliness issues, holding up Amtrak, etc. The pipeline is needed. Harry Reid helped Obama avoid some of these votes - that is no longer going to happen. But rather than Obama - you can bet that the Republicans are going to bring up a bunch of bills that will pass, but which will force Democrat senators to go on the record as voting for or against many issues. If McConnell is smart (he has not impressed thus far), he could set up the 2016 Senate for even more gains.
You guess it right -there will start a war between this groups and Obama can't do a thing or he must veto all bills=)
1. McConnell will not be Majority Leader. Ted Cruz will assume the position.
2. The US Congress is notorious about"correct votes so the people back home will be in the dark".
3. Uncle Warren will not let his investment in BNSF or Billy Gates will not let his investment in CP tank without a fight.
4. You will be an extinct RINO by 2016.
The pipeline won't change emissions that much. The issue is that a sitting president, who avows an international effort towards curbing the effects of climate change, should be setting an example for the rest of the world.
This is important dude (or dudette).
Yes. Hanson's passionate statement was but a moment in time. O's passion was squandered in Copenhagen and everything since only manifests the lack of power 'he' has remaining. The RoW is moving on, not because it thinks O doesn't mean well, but because it knows it's Time.
Absolutely. Important. +1
You are the mark.
Bill Clinton watching Obama's speech today....while Hillary was pounding Huma with a hairbrush in the background....
"This F#%&!NG N!@@#R just doesn't get it!"
"Hillary was pounding Huma with a hairbrush "
OOOWWW!!!
For Christ's sake...my poor fucking overactive imagination..see it in my mind's eye...
Stoppit dammit!!!!
We should have traded Barry in for a new model last night, even though there was two years left on the loan.
Cash for Clunkers?
Yeah, Warren paid good money to have that pipeline stalled. He ain't gonna be happy to have that turned around.
+100
You know, your statement is the God's honest truth.
We need to stop this pipeline and buy more of our oil from Saudi Arabia and Iran.
That would actually make sense.
Why not use up all of their oil first?
I thought it said "Obama May Have to Shut Down Government to Halt the Keynesian Pipeline" -- fatigue . . . or maybe I'm just a dreamer.
Uncle Warren will be pissed
I said this before but looking at this election and being that TPTB tend to stick with the illusion of differentiation between the red team and the blue team for appearances, this is gonna look a lot like the Bush years. With NG decline rates, shuttering of coal power at a massive scale, forced consumption of "clean" NG, current low price and the inevitable shit storm of war coming..... long NG bitchez. When... who knows.
I don't think Congress should force a shut-down-the-government crisis over this issue. Most voters don't care that much about the Keystone, so it would just be seen as a partisan squabble over something unimportant. Particularly with low gas prices.
If Congress really wanted to make the President look bad, they would pass a bill that would gut Obamacare. Then Obama would be forced to shut down the government in order to defend a program that most people hate.
Most people LOVE Obamacare.
The ones who don't are mostly Southern morons (like McConnell)
Is that you, Mary Landrieu? You should stop reading ZeroHedge and start packing. Stupid shit like this is what got you fired last night.
And you may wish to check your map of The Confederacy re: Kentucky.
I'm not disputing the moron part, only the Southern part. You Yankees can have ol' Mitch.
Yeah, right. That's why they just ousted all those congressmen and senators who voted for it.
And they will like it even less when the new 2015 premiums kick in. Obama issued an order prohibiting insurance companies from divulging them until after the election.
I am out of the country, permanently. Thus out of the local media USA loop.
When do the premiums go up this time?
They have delayed this so many times, to keep the consequences off election and away, but eventually it will have to begin.
Where is a good website with hard coverage of this?
Oh goodie queue the ramped up republican/democrat distractions while things continue to fall apart. We can all hate each other that much for being a republican and vice versa.
Fucking pathetic all of it.
Endeavor to persevere..... https://www.google.com/search?q=chief+dan+george&biw=1280&bih=621&tbm=is...
The Tyler's deleted my commets earlier today.
So, what got my and some other people's comments deleted by Tyler?
It was pointed out that the Tyler's never have any hard hitting articles about Israel (other than some about Palestine). Never point out that the Fed is owned by the jewish, that a majority of key appointments are jewish, that the media is controlled by the jewish and now they are writting story lines into sitcoms to show the jewish is the best light.
That the Tylers posted 3 articles claiming that there was a Russian sub. The George Washington posted articles claiming that the airliner was shot down by Russia - but by accident.
Pointed out that ISIS = CIA/Massad and they may use it get Saudi back in line. The recent religious incident was most likely CIA showing Saudi they can and will create inter religion strife if Saudi plays with oil prices.
Sure seems something there hit the Tylers nerves. Agenda? Why?
MCCONNELL SAYS KEYSTONE EMPLOYMENT FIGURES ARE 'STUNNING'
Boy, doesn't take much to stun him. I wonder what word he used to describe how he felt about the Interstate Highway System?
A wordless, violent orgasm.
I apologize for anyone contemplating the reality of a Mitch McConnell orgasm.
I'd probably come myself, if I could watch Mitch blow a load into Obama's face.
I find it hard to believe that turtle-faced shitwit has cum once in his miserable life.
Zowee! all them machine operators and paper work doers. WE'RE SAVED!
lol! good to see ya with
The sooner the better
I'm all for them shutting down Washington D.C. bitchez.
Yeah!
Like, what's the problem?
Republicans were elected to STOP OBOLA
SLOW THE TRAIN DOWN
AND STOP IT
Poor, Poor president obama.
The little moron will be FORCED to whip out his punk-ass little 'veto' pen in an effort to prevent the opposing criminal gang from undermining his regimes progress (FORWARD) into the abyss for the American people.
How utterlly unfair!!
Maybe he should just quit?

Stack On
The Oracle will be pissed if the pipeline is approved. Besides it's much safer to ship oil by train over decades old track than to put it in the pipeline. And you don't remember the train car that nearly vaporized an entire town last year. You don't remember....got it!
Rail Jams Snarl Canada Grain Sales Even as Crop Shrinks http://www.bloomberg.com/news/print/2014-10-02/rail-jams-snarl-canada-gr...
Both sides are sociopaths.
This is the best America can do. These liars come from American homes, American schools, American Churches, they attend American Universities and watch American TV and read American Book and listen to American Music.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rsL6mKxtOlQ
Mixed feelings about this. For the most part, I'm with a few other posters here. This pipeline bullshit is just another fucking distraction in the form of a 'team red vs. team blue' issue. Short term, there may be some jobs....which will disappear once the thing is built (minus the personnel needed to maintain the line). In the interim.....whole shit-tons of private and state-owned land will be confiscated via 'emminent domain' to get this done. Ultimately, the main beneficiaries will be the 0.01%. Color me a jaded old geezer, but I hold ZERO hope that the refined product that results from this Canuckian tar sand crude is destined for American consumers. Rather, it will be tankered straight to the Chinese branch of the NWO once its refined.
All hail the North American Union, may our glorious borderless globalist region never falter in forcing control over the human population.
The approval of the Keystone Pipeline will not result in lower energy prices - indeed it is more likely to result in higher prices. The oil that pipeline will carry will no longer be trapped within the North American market, but now available on the global market where it can fetch a higher price. This is not a pipeline to the refineries, but in reality a pipeline out of America. And of course, we are stupid enough to fall for this shit.
Exactly! That's "the plan," one that normally gets zero coverage for obvious reasons. And the vast majority of jobs created will end once it's built. So, the Dems are correct to oppose it, but they do so for the wrong reason (environment).
Also, please, don't include me in "we."
