Republicans Lay Out Agenda: Repeal ObamaCare, Authorize Keystone, Save The Children

Tyler Durden's picture

It would appear the blood-red pen of veto will be running dry by the time the President's term is up based on Mitch McConnell and John Boehner's WSJ op-ed explaining "now we can get Congress going." As they begin, "Americans have entrusted Republicans with control of both the House and Senate. We are humbled by this opportunity to help struggling middle-class Americans who are clearly frustrated..."

Via Speaker.gov and WSJ,

Americans have entrusted Republicans with control of both the House and Senate. We are humbled by this opportunity to help struggling middle-class Americans who are clearly frustrated by an increasing lack of opportunity, the stagnation of wages, and a government that seems incapable of performing even basic tasks.

Looking ahead to the next Congress, we will honor the voters’ trust by focusing, first, on jobs and the economy. Among other things, that means a renewed effort to debate and vote on the many bills that passed the Republican-led House in recent years with bipartisan support, but were never even brought to a vote by the Democratic Senate majority. It also means renewing our commitment to repeal ObamaCare, which is hurting the job market along with Americans’ health care.

For years, the House did its job and produced a steady stream of bills that would remove barriers to job creation and lower energy costs for families. Many passed with bipartisan support—only to gather dust in a Democratic-controlled Senate that kept them from ever reaching the president’s desk. Senate Republicans also offered legislation that was denied consideration despite bipartisan support and benefits for American families and jobs.

These bills provide an obvious and potentially bipartisan starting point for the new Congress—and, for President Obama , a chance to begin the final years of his presidency by taking some steps toward a stronger economy.

We’ll also consider legislation to help protect and expand America’s emerging energy boom and to support innovative charter schools around the country.These bills include measures authorizing the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline, which will mean lower energy costs for families and more jobs for American workers; the Hire More Heroes Act, legislation encouraging employers to hire more of our nation’s veterans; and a proposal to restore the traditional 40-hour definition of full-time employment, removing an arbitrary and destructive government barrier to more hours and better pay created by the Affordable Care Act of 2010.

Enacting such measures early in the new session will signal that the logjam in Washington has been broken, and help to establish a foundation of certainty and stability that both parties can build upon.

At a time of growing anxiety for the American people, with household incomes stubbornly flat and the nation facing rising threats on multiple fronts, this is vital work.

Will these bills single-handedly turn around the economy? No. But taking up bipartisan bills aimed at helping the economy that have already passed the House is a sensible and obvious first step.

More good ideas aimed at helping the American middle class will follow. And as we work to persuade others of their merit, we won’t repeat the mistakes made when a different majority ran Congress in the first years of Barack Obama’s presidency, attempting to reshape large chunks of the nation’s economy with massive bills that few Americans have read and fewer understand.

Instead, we will restore an era in which committees in both the House and Senate conduct meaningful oversight of federal agencies and develop and debate legislation; and where members of the minority party in both chambers are given the opportunity to participate in the process of governing.

We will oversee a legislature in which “bigger” isn’t automatically equated with “better” when it comes to writing and passing bills.

Our priorities in the 114th Congress will be your priorities. That means addressing head-on many of the most pressing challenges facing the country, including:

The insanely complex tax code that is driving American jobs overseas;

Health costs that continue to rise under a hopelessly flawed law that Americans have never supported;

A savage global terrorist threat that seeks to wage war on every American;

An education system that denies choice to parents and denies a good education to too many children;

Excessive regulations and frivolous lawsuits that are driving up costs for families and preventing the economy from growing;

An antiquated government bureaucracy ill-equipped to serve a citizenry facing 21st-century challenges, from disease control to caring for veterans;

A national debt that has Americans stealing from their children and grandchildren, robbing them of benefits that they will never see and leaving them with burdens that will be nearly impossible to repay.

January will bring the opportunity to begin anew. Republicans will return the focus to the issues at the top of your priority list. Your concerns will be our concerns. That’s our pledge.

The skeptics say nothing will be accomplished in the next two years. As elected servants of the people, we will make it our job to prove the skeptics wrong.

* * *

Good luck with that!

The Republican "agenda" is all relatively meaningless fluff.

The Republicans & Democrats are identical on the three most critical issues our country faces:

1.) Monetary policy (especially who controls the issuance of currency)

2.) foreign policy (endless wars for Israel) and

3.) Immigration policy (open borders and no effective deterrence)

As long as the usurers continue to dictate our monetary policy, nothing substantive will change.  Bought puppet will follow corrupt puppet ad infinitum.

It appears that this election cycle was more of a referendum against Obama than a genuine support of the GOP.  The Repubs gained control of Congress way back in '94 and promised a "contract with America", complete with Newt Gingrich even carrying a copy of the Constitution in his pocket at all times.

The magic lasted less than two years, and they squandered their opportunity by quickly abandoning their promise.  Same thing in 2004, when Bush Jr. (whom I voted for both times) squandered his second term and changed his colors, bringing us Medicare expansion, TARP, etc.  Disappointing...same as it ever was.

Then the GOP paraded McCain in '08, and Romney in '12, both RINOs who were a waste of time and didn't even come close to espousing conservative values.  What an embarrassment.  No wonder Obummer won.

Now the Repubs will be taking over the Hill again in January.  Boy, I sure hope they don't pull a repeat and piss away the chance to undo some of the damage done by the Unholy Trinity (Obama/Pelosi/Reid).  If all we get is lip service and then another fake Republocrat again for the '16 Presidential race, that will be the last straw and I'll leave the GOP forever and become an Independent.

Actually, Citxmech, I've memorized the Declaration of Independence, taught Colonial/Founding History and Economics classes on a college campus, and am a Constitutional scholar.  I even have framed copies of multiple Organic Law documents (DOA, Constitution, Bill of Rights, etc) framed and hanging above my desk at home.  I'm acutely aware of the political system and how it's far-removed and perverted from the original intentions of the Founders.

I've probably forgotten more about how American parties work than you yourself have ever learned.  So if you're truly interested in having any meaningful impact on the world around you, grow up and do something productive.  The world already has enough 20-year-olds who think that dropping an ocassional forum comment in between Call of Duty games is a valid contribution to the betterment of society.

It IS interesting, though, how you seem particularly enamored with the thought of a "good ass-f**king".

Most of us are well aware of what's going on.  We even realize we can't change the flow of the river, but if a person takes action that at least makes ripples, it's better than nothing.  And certainly better than standing neck-deep in the water and just complaining about it like you do.

In five minutes I'll be signed off and will have forgotten all about you and this conversation, so please feel free to ignore me.  But if you wake up tomorrow and are still the do-nothing loudmouth you were today, then you've made no progress and will be dismissed by everyone.  It's your choice.  If you're not helping to improve things, then you're just in the way.  Like a pothole.

The Contract with America promised House votes on, I believe 10 bills if the GOP became the majority party. The Senate GOP did not sign on to it. Aside from breaking up a few of the points into multiple bills which then got voted on anyway, it actually happened post election within the timeframe that they promised. The problem was the Senate then sat on many of the bills which then died. Others were vetoed by President Clinton and one, establishing a presidential line item veto, was declared unconstitutional.

So youre problem is that they actually fulfilled the contract or that the other parts of the government didn't go along with the House or you just never read up on what actually happened?

I think the "Democrat" was trying to illustrate that this was not a victory for anyone... duplicitous, imperial business will continue as usual. All spending bills originate in the House...and you can't veto a budget.

How is any of that bad for the economy?

Administration just issued its first spending request. 8 billion for Ebola. "Welcome to Washington DC."

Just remember...the Vietnam War ended when the Democratic Majorities cut off all funding for the war. Of course good luck trying to do that to a domestic program. Ebola is an interesting hybrid of course...

Nothing short of hyperinflation or default can fix the deficit at this point and the politicians don't want either ... so they'll keep the status quo and kick the can, they are depending on Obama to veto anything big.

It will be interesting to see what they will do when the Republicans get the presidency ... my guess is that they will stop talking about the deficit very very soon.

Translation:

We're cutting taxes on the super rich, we're going to war, your health coverage is over, good look in school if you're poor.

Well, the super rich don't pay taxes (They write the laws, remember?), The US is going to war no matter what (the Zionist douchebag controllers must have their blood ... as long as it's goy doing the fighting, of course), and now (since I'm self-insured) I might be able to afford healthcare .... as opposed to Obombercare's $6K deductable and $20K in premiums enforced via threats of violence. School was no more affordable under Obomber than anyone else - as a matter of fact, it's become dramatically more expensive during his squatting in the WH - and it looks like it's going to stay that way until people start figuring out there aren't any jobs for graduates....

Honestly, If the "Republicans" do anything positive, I'll be shocked.  One thing that would be a breath of fresh air is if they impeached the Halfrican (that's not racist - Christopher Dorner taught me that word).... but then that would leave the drunk frat boy in charge ... shudder....

You must have missed that particular language class in HS or college, as your translation is simply awful.  The passage could be translated in one of two ways:

(1) We have seen the light and will actually oppose the Progressivist/Statist uber-tax schemes, Sunni takeover foreign policy, totalitarian "health coverage" scheme, and no-choice education scheme, and do everything within our CONSTITUTIONAL power to break the Progressivist/Statist tyranny by not only cutting taxes, but by also going to a fair/flat tax of no more than 10% that EVERY WORKING AMERICAN will pay, with no deductions or exemptions or credits, by instituting a foreign policy that promotes AMERICAN interests ONLY, and not those of Islamists or Socialists or Fascists, by destroying "Obamacare" and bringing free enterprise to the health care marketplace, and by getting the federal government OUT of education altogether.

Or, and admittedly the translation accepted by most people:

(2) We will "oppose" the Porgressivist/Statist agenda only insofar as we can use it politically to cement power for each of us and other Establishment Republicans, and if we happen to do some small good along the way to lessen the tax burden, slow the Islamists, eliminate the worst abuses of the Socialist "Obamacare" scheme, and remove a small part of government's current role in education, well that is just icing on our cake (but KNOW that WE come first).

Regardless, your translation fails because it ASSUMES, for whatever bizarre reasons, that somehow Obama's regime does not represent the largest increase in the wealth of the wealthy in history, that we are not at war (fighting, whenever possible, for Sunni Islamists), that "Obamacare" provides healthcare coverage of tolerable quality, and that somehow the poor benefit from a Federally-run education system in which 50% of the poor drop out before graduating high school.  In other words, your translation ACCEPTS the status quo as THE GOOD, which causes your translation to fail from the "git-go."

I get that, but obamacare isn't going anywhere, sorry to say. They can vote to repeal it until they are blue in the face, Obama won't sign it. And it's like every other fucking govt program: once it is created , it only grows in size. Then, once billary is safely enshrined in the White House for 8 fucking years, it will be over a decade old and too many people will be getting "helped" by it to repeal at that point. Just like SS and Medicare. Can't afford them, but they will stay and eat us alive(I'm 29, I expect to pay for it but never benefit from it). And, any kind of economic downturn that seems pretty much inevitable at this point(the markets can only ignore reality for so long) will be blamed on republicans for 'deregulation', even though we all know all these people on both parties are firmly in wall streets corner. This could wind up giving one chamber back to dems and the WH to them as well in 2 years, so they can just reinstate something similar even if republicans manage to get rid of it. Then, they can all just keep fighting about obamacare and gay marriage as the country burns down around them. Sorry , turned into a way longer post than I intended when I started talking.....

btw I opted out of Obamacare and am exempt under my health insurance costs about the same as yours but also pays 100% after I meet my deductable, no limit, and I owe any co-pays or percentages.

It rose from a tiny backwater nation to leading the world in science, culture and economics.  Look what the US has become since we allowed the government to tell us what to do.  Let's declare war on politics; get rid of the parasites; and advance the human race.
