If the Republicans were to actually stand up for what the people that voted for them believed, and make concentrated efforts to downsize government, lower taxes, and reduce regulation, I think you would see them quickly become the permanent majority in this country.

The biggest problem we have in America is CENTRALIZATION. Once you make the central government the arbiter over the entire country's affairs, the giant magnet attracts all of the corruption to that central entity. If we would've stuck to our roots and kept our relatively Swiss-style government, I think things would've turned out better in the long run. Alas, that dream died in 1865, so what can you do?

I actually prefer the opposite approach- No restrictions, and let the chips fall where they may. That's the only way you can even the playing field against the Democrats (Socialists/Liberals/whatever), who have a complete and total monopoly on the entertainment and news industries in the world.

The Democrats abused all manner of Senate rules and tradition when Reid was in charge -- they estalished new precedents for ignoring the Republicans and trashed the need for a 60 vote super majority. McConnell needs to do the same thing to the Democrats as Reid will do everything he (still) can to de-rail the Republicans. So McConnell is correct in many ways - the Senate Democrats can be ignored (just as Reid ignored the Republicans) -- and only Obama (with his veto pen) matter.
