Putin Signs Secret Pact To Crush NATO
Submitted by Marin Katusa via Casey Research,
Back on September 11 and 12, there was a summit meeting in a city that involved an organization that most Americans have never heard of. Mainstream media coverage was all but nonexistent.
The place was Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, a country few Westerners could correctly place on a map.
But you can bet your last ruble that Vladimir Putin knows exactly where Tajikistan is. Because the group that met there is the Russian president’s baby. It’s the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), consisting of six member states: Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
The SCO was founded in 2001, ostensibly to collectively oppose extremism and enhance border security. But its real reason for being is larger. Putin sees it in a broad context, as a counterweight to NATO (a position that the SCO doesn’t deny, by the way). Its official stance may be to pledge nonalignment, nonconfrontation, and noninterference in other countries’ affairs, but—pointedly—the members do conduct joint military exercises.
Why should we care about this meeting in the middle of nowhere? Well, obviously, anything that Russia and China propose to do together warrants our attention. But there’s a whole lot more to the story.
Since the SCO’s inception, Russia has been treading somewhat softly, not wanting the group to become a possible stalking horse for Chinese expansion into what it considers its own strategic backyard, Central Asia. But at the same time, Putin has been making new friends around the world as fast as he can. If he is to challenge US global hegemony—a proposition that I examine in detail in my new book, The Colder War—he will need as many alliances as he can forge.
Many observers had been predicting that the Dushanbe meeting would be historic. The expectation was that the organization would open up to new members. However, expansion was tabled in order to concentrate on the situation in Ukraine. Members predictably backed the Russian position and voiced support for continuing talks in the country. They hailed the Minsk cease-fire agreement and lauded the Russian president’s achievement of a peace initiative.
However, the idea of adding new members was hardly forgotten. There are other countries which have been actively seeking to join for years. Now, with the rotating chairmanship of the organization passing to Moscow—and with the next summit scheduled for July 2015 in Ufa, Russia—conditions could favor the organization’s expansion process truly taking shape by next summer, says Putin.
To that end, the participants in Dushanbe signed documents that addressed the relevant issues: a “Model Memorandum on the Obligations of Applicant States for Obtaining SCO Member State Status,” and “On the Procedure for Granting the Status of the SCO Member States.”
This is extremely important, both to Russia and the West, because two of the nations clamoring for inclusion loom large in geopolitics: India and Pakistan. And waiting in the wings is yet another major player—Iran.
In explaining the putting off of a vote on admittance for those countries, Putin’s presidential aide Yuri Ushakov was candid. He told Russian media that expansion at this moment is still premature, due to potential difficulties stemming from the well-known acrimony between India and China, and India and Pakistan, as well as the Western sanctions against Iran. These conflicts could serve to weaken the alliance, and that’s something Russia wants to avoid.
Bringing longtime antagonists to the same table is going to require some delicate diplomatic maneuvering, but that’s not something Putin has ever shied away from. (Who else has managed to maintain cordial relationships with both Iran and Israel?)
As always, Putin is not thinking small or short term here. Among the priorities he’s laid out for the Russian chairmanship are: beefing up the role of the SCO in providing regional security; launching major multilateral economic projects; enhancing cultural and humanitarian ties between member nations; and designing comprehensive approaches to current global problems. He is also preparing an SCO development strategy for the 2015-2025 period and believes it will be ready by the time of the next summit.
We should care what’s going on inside the SCO. Once India and Pakistan get in (and they will) and Iran follows shortly thereafter, it’ll be a geopolitical game changer.
Putin is taking a leadership role in the creation of an international alliance among four of the ten most populous countries on the planet—its combined population constitutes over 40% of the world’s total, just short of 3 billion people. It encompasses the two fastest-growing global economies. Adding Iran means its members would control over half of all natural gas reserves. Development of Asian pipeline networks would boost the nations of the region economically and tie them more closely together.
If Putin has his way, the SCO could not only rival NATO, it could fashion a new financial structure that directly competes with the IMF and World Bank. The New Development Bank (FKA the BRICS Bank), created this past summer in Brazil, was a first step in that direction. And that could lead to the dethroning of the US dollar as the world’s reserve currency, with dire consequences for the American economy.
As I argue in The Colder War, I believe that this is Putin’s ultimate aim: to stage an assault on the dollar that brings the US down to the level of just one ordinary nation among many… and in the process, to elevate his motherland to the most exalted status possible.
What happened in Tajikistan this year and what will happen in Ufa next summer—these things matter. A lot.

Let's take down both of them.
You are on your own.
I heard it again. Somewhere in the wind came the distant roar of, "Check!"
An American, not US subject.
And if one is listening, one can also hear the all too familiar clarion call of the Zionists for more young cannon fodder.
The Ruble is crashing, the West has essentially frozen Russian companies from the international bond market. Oil prices are being pushed down by Saudi Arabia and oil and gas is the total Russian economy. They don't have anything else!!
Russia is a $2 Trillion dollar economy compared to the $40 Trillion West. The West can crush Russia by freezing their access to the SWIFT interbanking system. The only question is what happens then?
Let's be clear, there is no future for Russia. And Russia's "friends" like China, might decide to take back some of Eastern Russian land that was seized from China in the 19th century. China might be the real winner in the defeat of Putin.

Economist World Debt Comparison World Debt Clock compare countries
Russia has lowest National Debt to GDP of any major country.
Russia does not spend money it does not have normally.
Russia has 13% Flat Tax only
GDP is overrated.
Debt with derivatives is underrated
Better worry about your own country
You need to read the ZH stories about Russia and the SWIFT interbanking system. Russia has the fix for this and the fix involves China. China and Russia have resolved their land disputes and they now have too much going together economically to be antagonistic towards one another. Besides, Russia has enough short range tactical nuclear weapons that could and would be used in any invasion of their country. Also read the ZH story about who is really isolated. Russia is far from isolated and has more friends and economic partners than the western media is letting you know about. Russian people know how to suffer and have done so many times in the past. President Putin's approval ratings are above 80% and they know the future of their country is now at stake. Putin and Russia will not back down amidst US and EU pressure. This is another huge miscalculation and error of our White House and leaders. There will be no defeat of Putin.

Mike,
Cood comment.
The Int'l bond market ? You mean the Bond market that is being bought up by printed, electronic fiat the BOJ, Fed, and soon to be ECB ? That feckin' bond market. You are 1 stupid fuck.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization is the greatest challenge to America’s economic power
The famous prophecy in 1904 by the famous geopolitical expert, Sir Halford Mackinder seems to be coming true:
"Who rules East Europe commands the Heartland; Who rules the Heartland commands the World Island; Who rules the World Island commands the World."
"Keep your friends close and your enemies closer."
These countries are aligning themselves for the purpose of protection: protection from the Zionist-dominated western world. But both India and Kazakhstan are very interested in developing closer relations with Israel and the United States. And China still needs easy access to US consumer and capital markets; and has invested heavily in Kazakhstan as well.
For people who believe that a unipolar world is dangerous to mankind, the idea of creating and sustaining a counterweight to the current world order is very appealing; but the SCO, both as it is currently organized and even more so when India and Iran join in, will be full of competing interests. Foremost among them would be control over -or at least influence in- the "stans" of Central Asia.
The Inclusion of Iran and India would be useful as "buffers" that could keep rivalries between China and Russia in check over who will play the role of "Big Brother" over the other Central Asian nations. But including Pakistan (and Afghanistan in effect, as well) would be like holding the lever in place on a hand grenade after the pin has been removed. From Pakistan (and Afghanistan), the restive Islamic minorities in all the other countries could draw inspiration. Not good for harmony!
This alliance could form and be sustained only if -and as long as- there is more money to be made by keeping the Americans and the Israelis out. Russia can be the senior partner in such an alliance only as long as Putin maintains his cache as the world's most competent and admired leader. After that, China's leaders would expect to call the shots.
Henry Kissinger, while basking in the glow of a Nobel Peace Prize in 1973, put forth a concept of regional organizations. The dominant nation(s) in each would be given a relatively free hand to instill order and maintain stability within its own region. France and Britain would have the responsibility to do the same in their former colonies. As I recall, he came up with 7 regions. The UN would still play a role; but it would be used more as a forum where these regional organizations would regulate, negotiate, and monitor overlapping concerns.
These days, the aged Kissinger is just a shill for China and Israel. And he has lost his cache as the world's foremost diplomat. But his concept needs to be resurrected.
SCO - communists working with communists - they're likely to kill each other first before the challenge the US or any other part of the world
"The US down to the level of just one ordinary nation among many" and looking after its own territory and people, I add.
I'm sure plenty of Americans will agree it won't be a day too soon.
The rest of the article is the usual fearmongering Nato trash.
This is more proof a struggle is occurring to unseat America as the worlds most dominate nation. For many proud Americans who see the world from the unenlightened and possibly undefendable position of the United States having a right to be in control it is both threatening and frustrating to see control slip away.
It is threatening to think the country might quickly fall to the position of a second rate power mired in debt with many of the options we have come to see as our right suddenly ripped away. It is frustrating that in many ways the country has become its own worse enemy guilty of political inaction and squandering its power through a series of bad choices and missteps. The article below delves into what America must do to turn this around.

The author of this article missed Turkey, which is of even greater significance, because Turkey is the straw man for Saudi Arabia. Keep your eye on The Great Game and the geopolitical objectives of the 3rd Saudi State. And that is the Big Picture.
I recognize that Turkey is probably the most strategic, geographically-speaking, in the world. The problem for Turkey is that it is a "bridge" country: between Europe and Asia, between Christianity and Islam, between modernity and antiquity. As such, it marks the boundary between, not really part of any.
Turkey since Attaturk, but especially since NATO, has made every effort to gain acceptance as a "European" nation. But the European Union would have none of it. It is an insult to Turkey that pseudo nations like Slovenia and Croatia, or impoverished countries like Bulgaria, Romania and Greece were admitted while they have been put off. Now Ukraine is the next darling to be courted.
Where is Turkey?
Turkey should seek to reunite with the former elements of the Ottoman Empire. But there are jealousies and suspicions to be overcome. I believe that Erdogan and his type can find Turkey's place on terms of its own. But it won't come soon.
The Problem for Turkey is that they hold her by the short and curlies.
1st is Greece that can be a great weapon with the right weapons as the former inhabitants can testify and the hope that can return home (1922 population exchanges 156,and 1964 expulsions ) and the yearning is there.
2nd is Armenia for the same reasons as that of Greece.
3rd is the Curds as they are the ones that the British/Americans/Jews hold as the trump card that are the pilot light to turn the BOILER on and off.
The lead spokeswoman for newly installed EU foreign policy chief Frederica Mogherini is married to a partner in a Brussels public relations firm that lobbies for Russian state-owned natural-gas monopoly Gazprom.
Spokesperson Catherine Ray married Thomas Barros-Tastets in France on October 19, 2013. Barros-Tastets is a partner in the Brussels branch of the G+ lobbying firm. His online biography states that he "helps to coordinate the European part of a worldwide consortium which advises a major international energy company on communications and public affairs."
Although the "major international energy company" is not named, Barros-Tastets is frequently referenced in the media as "a consultant in European public affairs for Gazprom." An August 2013 announcement that he was appointed a partner at G+ states that he "is an adviser to Gazprom in its dealings with the EU competition authorities."
The EU's Transparency Register lists "Diversified Energy Communications (for Gazprom Export)" as one of G+'s major clients, generating annual turnover of between 300,000 and 350,000 euros. Barros-Tastets is listed there as one of the firm's employees "accredited for access to European Parliament premises."

The West (EU and US) is more socialist than Russia. In the Soviet Union only one in 500 people were card carrying party members. In today's Russia the communist party is a tiny minority, mostly the elderly. This talk equating modern Russians with communists is ignorant antiquated bullshit.
Play time is over.
We had US Bases in 3 of those countries or at least 2.
It’s the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), consisting of six member states: Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
So, I guess they are taking money from Russia and China now. But big Question: Will the USA be satisfied to surrender Afghanistan and those 2-3 foot holds in South West Asia??
US is acting kind of Erratically after all.
I think we can fly there from the Persian Gulf, from Pakistan, from Turkey, from Afghanistan, from Mediterranean, from Italy?
Let me know when Putin starts banging his shoe on the table.
The road to Dushanbe...ah, Spies like Us. Wouldn't know this place if it wasn't for that movie!
Does this mean India will come to the rescue if Iran is attacked? When the article says "crush" NATO, does this mean they will attack NATO? Under what circumstances? I always had hope that I'd never have to see a big War, but it feels like that's exactly what may be coming.
There has been a fair number of foreboding articles written trying to draw comparisons between 1914 and 2014. But actually, it is more like the 1930s.
The great danger still lies down the road a bit, as the US is trying to get together a mix of electronic warfare + missile forces that would give it first strike capability along with the ability to defeat Russian defensive measures or counterattack capabilities. The powers that be in America definitely believe that they can do it.
America is led now by a generation of zionist "chickenhawks", who have grown arrogant, are impervious to the suffering of war, and believe that they themselves, at least, would be isolated from the devastation. They are without a moral compass within them to retsrain them from using or abusing the power which they are seeking.
Russia in particular, but China somewhat less, believe that they are the prime targets of such a program. The SCO is just an attempt to convey a sense of "all-for-one and one for all" in order to dissuade the powermongers from acting too quickly. But in reality, the stage is set. Russia will be left to fight alone, while the others will play for time in the hope that the American hegemonists will overextend themselves, falling from the weight of its own hubris, before the Americans can get to them. In the meantime the global war against Islam is distracting America.

Weekend softcore for the addled brain sheeple of the Putiporn Generation! And who better to write it than the man, or company, almost solely responsible for the establishment of the “steal me” table of books outside of Barnes and Noble and (formerly) Borders.
Readers should go inside B&N and buy “The Great Game”. The “stans” haven’t changed a lick, save for their leaders building grand palaces for themselves and statues of---again---themselves. To the untrained eye some parts of the stans might look all chrome-and-glassy, but that’s merely a coat of shellac brushed on a desiccated 9th Century cadaver.
India and Pakistan in the same club? That should be special. Maybe they can discuss that recent blast at the Wagah border. The Moslems in this new “secret” club can discuss the Uiygur situation with the Chinese.
But the sheeple gotta believe! Their little Puti, the Most Interesting Man in the World, or whatever People Magazine contest he just won, is the new Tamerlane, or Genghis Khan, or maybe Attila. He’s the man who can slay any all-female rock band, blow the head off of middle age female journalists, and tap phones---albeit for a good cause---of diplomats. Okay, he monitors the internet and phones in his own country and has enacted all sorts of Draconian rules for control of the masses, but he must have a good reason. Perhaps it’s because if people are afraid of him and his Neo Cheka henchmen, they will behave and he won’t have to slaughter them like he did Anna P. And let’s cut the guy some slack; to a man in a freeze dried little body, women can be very intimidating. It is probably unfair to call him a misogynist. He’s just shy.
Oh, and for you sheeple who think RT or “the internet” is any more reliable than CNN or MSNBC, you might consider that the old propaganda producer Puti really is leading you by the short hairs when it comes to an (admittedly) unpleasant woman named Victoria Nuland. That “$5 billion”? You do know that it refers to the total of US assistance given Ukraine since 1992, to governments that were pro and anti-Western, right? Ooh, you don’t? Facts ruin your meme? Your spoonfeeders fooled you? Well, here’s the math: It amounts to about $18 million/month, hardly enough to get the attention of a mid-tier HF manager, much less a nation. The money was used primarily for infrastructure improvements, environmental clean-up, technological training, and weapons dismantling. Some also was undoubtedly skimmed, and perhaps some went to the medical care of Yushchenko after Puti poisoned him. Total aid given around Maiden, as “uncovered” by none other than Glenn Greenwald and his associates, and which was disbursed through USAID, amounted to $500,000. Puti would have you sheeple believe that a bumptious virago in Washington and a metrosexual US Ambassador in Kiev, plus some chump change, were strong enough to turn an entire populace around. What little respect you Sheeplekovs have for the Ukrainian people!
And before you sadsacks accuse me of it, I’ll admit it: Yes, I’m a 322 33rd Degree Bilderberging Bohemian Grover who uses his private aircraft to chemtrail the wretched souls in the Scroomosphere.
Thank you. I’ll be here at the ZH Day Care Center all week. Remember to tip your nurses.
Clever and well done!! Your points are well made and well taken ... with a good sense of humor of course.
Hey chindit the genius, re. $ Vicky Knoodlman-Kagan's $5B figure. Is there anything, anything, besides your say so that claims this figure she quoted represents 22 years of activities / payments??
The book recomendation, I completely agree with. I wonder what you mean by so little has changed. The book documents the expansion of empires into Central Asia.

Marin Katusa appears to be incapable of seeing things from the point of view of other persons, especially Putin.
The fact is that Russia's national and cultural existence is threatened by NATO which is lead by maniacs with neo 'conservative' (i.e., anti-American) ideas. These neocons, as they are often called, include Robert Kagan, co-founder of the Project for a New (anti)American Century, whose wife, Victoria Nuland started the entire recent conflict in Ukraine, for example, by organizing paid & violent demonstrators to oust Ukraine's legitimate, elected leader just because he accepted Putin's better offer over the one he negotiated with Nuland and the EU. Were it not for Nuland, Crimea would still be part of Ukraine and Ukraine would be better shape to service its debts to European banks.
Nato's borders have moved 1000m east during the last 20 years in violation of promises made (although not put in treaties) not to move into former Soviet territory. There is good reason to believe that so-called 'Westerners' like Senator McCain encouraged Georgia to attack S. Ossetia in 2008 while Putin was in Beijing for the Olympics. Neocon leaders in the West are deceitful, murderous people. It should quite clear to anyone with a brain who is not a neocon that NATO, controlled as it is by neocon ideas, is trying to accomplish world domination through any means necessary.
Putin is forced to make deals with Eastern countries or NATO will eventually destroy his country. His actions are purely defensive.
