BLSOD
Friday gave us a rare glimpse inside one of the Bureau of Labor Statistics Jobs Centers (courtesy of CNBC)... Perhaps, as the following screengrab indicates, this is why the American unemployed's "re-training" is not preparing them for life in the new economy?
In the new normal, the ubiquitous BSOD is officially to be renamed the BLSOD...

Pfffthwpt!
The era of Windows-based operating systems is over. Better get some training in Linux/Unix OSs, specifically open-source distributions (i.e. CentOS, Fedora, Debian, openSUSE, FreeBSD, Ubuntu, Linux Mint).
Qubes, For The Win Baby. Securitay, it's what's up.
Husk-Erzulie
Is that your blog? If so you are really hot.
Joanna is hot precisely because... she is rocking a world class intellect. LOL some gals got ten pound tits, some got brains to die for :-)

Linux and open source are the new future?
Security its what's up?
Hey dumbasses
Heard of Heart worm?
Windows will be around for a long time folks... and it is the most secure O/S on the market.
If you run 15 year old operating systems you might have an issue or two.
Feds are notorious for lack of controls (see IRS and email backups)
You don't even know how to troll properly kid. Come back when you are allowed to buy beer.
You are kidding right, try z/OS
Big iron rules.
>and it is the most secure O/S on the market.
You must be suffering from that virus that turns people stupid.
I have nothing against Windows, afterall, stupid people need computers too and Windows caters to that market.
I really like how when you click to shut down Windows it sometime sits there for 15 minutes running updates. How quaint.
I also like how the GUI has such a 1990's feel to it... or that Windows 8.1 seems to have been copied from the Hospital scene in "Idiocracy"... But then, that is what Microsoft is really about.
I also like how Bill Gates is so into infectious African diseases and supports UN population control, er, sorry, vaccination for those poor countries

How's that working out, Husk?
Do you have in on a USB Stick, or on your Hard Drive? How do the Apps work - are they using a certain Linux Distro as a base/repository, or do they have their own set of apps?
Thanks.
While the *nix like OSes are transparent in their adoption of safety features, there is a tremendous amount of time invested in building commercial software in the Microsofts platforms. There is too much expertise accumulated.
Actually, there's probably far greater "expertese" (both in skill level and manhours) invested in *NIX development. Windows has contributed little innovation to the computing world, M$ being accurately described as no more than "fast followers".
Their expertise is in marketing and litigation -- not technology.
Microsoft requires you to throw all expertise out of the window every 3 years and relearn from scratch. The result being you can't build a great deal of expertise because you are relearning the basics of the new environment. And making the same types of mistakes again.
Unix on the other hand, people who started on the original unix in 1970 would be comfortable and productive on Linux today. Their expertise would still be relevant but would have the benefit of 40 years of experience.
Point being, on Microsoft platforms you are continually re-inventing wheels, while on unix platforms, someone already did that and you get to invent the wing (or whatever) instead.
The perfect OS will never exist.
My first exposure to computing was punch card stuff in 1969.
Remember Z80 and the BBC computer.
Owned an Atari with 128K !!!! of RAM back in the 80s and an Apple 2
I have 2 Macs that are both set up with Mac OS, Windows and Ubuntu as a triple boot.
I mostly run Mac, as that's been what I've had since 1994.
Most people aren't propellerheads, so they go for the cheap and easy - Linux has the price end covered and is getting better fairly quickly on the latter. Unfortunately, the advertising budget is a bit lacking.
Were you damaged by Fortran as we were?
and Cobol...
Learn Perl... a good perl programmer can always find employ.
Perl sometimes looked like the cat walked all over the keyboard!
Ewww, Perl is horrible stuff - it made more sense when you needed to write powerful, compact scripts to get things done with weak processors, less memory and less disk. Sort of a grown up version of TECO... now that was a macho language. I still suspect the neurons of my fondest memories of my mother when I was a baby ended up overwritten by TECO command syntax details I had to learn under deadline pressure.
Perl, (and TECO) are great examples around of "write-only" code, in other words, after you write it and and get it to work, two months later when you have to change it and read what you wrote, it will look like gibberish and not make sense!
Python is so much better and will save you a lot of time in maintenance.
Most local governments need someone skilled in Cobol (ibm mainframe) Sql and php. Having some networking skill is a bonus but those three are priceless.
I've been using LinuxMint for quite a few years now. It just plain works.
And there is no need to use the command line. That's for dweebs who live in their mother's basement.
Sorry, but there are some things that can only be done from a command-line.
Nobody needs to do those things. Only the people who write the software.
...or dweebs who have to work for a living maintaining hundreds of machines at a time over the network.
The problem with GUIs is that they are one dimensional and don't really take the network into account. A waste of time and gives way too much control to the GUI, so you don't really know what its doing.
What you "learn" with GUIs isn't that "this command runs on this machines, then this command, then this one", rather you learn "click this tab, then enter this string, then click this tab and click this button" - now which of those is more useful information to know, given that on the next version of the GUI the order of the tabs may be rearranged, even if the underlying command line scripts are not?
Windows isn't going anywhere for exactly the reasons you've stated - CentOS? Debian? Ubuntu? Suse? Fedora? Which is it? Ever try to get a bunch of Linux nerds to agree on which is best?
And really - FreeBSD? Dogsh*t.
They are all the same. Differences are cosmetic.
This.
Linux is like a car. It has a steering wheel, gas pedal, clutch, brake all in the same place. The body looks different, some may have more features than others, but they all work basically the same.
Windows is like driving around in a bus where the windows are painted over, and you can't see where you're going or what the driver is doing, and the bus only stops when it wants to...
You wish dude. That is not even close to the case.
my roomate's sister makes $80 hourly on the internet . She has been fired from work for 6 months but last month her paycheck was $14750 just working on the internet for a few hours. check it out... www.yelptrade.com
I'm glad your roommates sister is flush with cash again. She paid me $80 to fist her and I was out the door in less than 15.minutes.
Stay away from his sister. I caught a nasty STD and my wife is so pissed. Should of used my fist.
Reading sick comments from misogynist thugs on ZH gets awfully tiresome. Tyler, can't you stop the vile comments that are pornographic and/or encourage violence against women? I see a lot of that here lately. Besides being offensive, it's simply damaging to your site and to readers' morale. Please -- is there nothing you can do for the readers here who may be 1) female or 2) human?
what? did your mom die from a fisting accident?
Lack of compassion, lack of simple human respect and decency -- these are the well known markers of psychopaths. It's easy to hide under fake names online when you're a sociopath. ZH comments have become increasingly infested with off-handed remarks about "fisting" women or beating them with 2 x 4s, as if it were as normal as talking about fly fishing or the Dallas Cowboys, It's discouraging to see an otherwise intelligent site like this infested with lowlife psychopaths because no one bothers to monitor the comments.
Spammers get no consideration, human or otherwise. Nor do their ficticious "sister's roommates."
Now please take your silly outrage elsewhere, or you will taunted a second time.
Let me guess, you also want to ban the word "bossy" and you want to make Diversity Classes a universal university requirement, eh? Fuck that politically correct bullshit. I get told at least once a week to "eat a bag of dicks" on this site. It does not get my masculine dander up. Grow a fucking spine and stop your pussy PC whining.
Oh noes, I used the term "pussy". I am going straight to feminazi hell...
Thaxter,
I don't think the "Fisting" you're referring(violence) to is what they're referring to...
If I'm not mistaken, the original poster was referring to a sexual act (where the woman is "pleasured")...
Tylers, I think you are being asked to make ZH "girl frendly". So much for fight club.
Fight club? Fight this:No moar Bosses. No moar Owners. No moar Cops.
Were you born without a sense of humor, or did you have it surgically removed?
Pretty sure that's the computer that's used to search for full time jobs.
Geez, that looks like a 10 year old Dell. I've seen those same cases in elementary schools and they are old, old, old. Probably still running Windows 2000 and that looks like a blue screen of death to me.
There was a bad run of capacitors that affected all the major manufacturers, by around 2009 the machines started having black fluid drooling out of the capacitors. As more and more machines were affected, resulting in intermittant crashes, intermittant slow-downs, etc.
I believe that capacitor batch came from China, if memory serves me.
I took out those Chinese capacitors and replaced them with Flux capacitors. Boy, my computer is like a time machine now...
Only when it's struck by lightning though.
They [Chinese] stole the formula from Japan but it was missing something which caused the faulty capacitors. That's why the good motherboards always advertise Japanese capacitors.
My memory isn't very good, but I seem to remember that a Taiwanese company stole the formula for the goo that goes into capacitors (from either a Japanese or other Taiwanese company)
But the formula they stole was missing something, but this wasn't apparent at the time...
We got burned with dozens of bad Gigabyte MoBos that failed with the black goo of death and bulging caps.
Jobs!..........We don't need no stinking jobs.
Its the Obola economy..........get your free Obolaphones here, free Obolaphones!
Hey, at least it's not green!
Guru Meditation FTW
Been seeing this error all week. Frustrated out of my mind
What IS this posting about? No clue...would someone please explain?
It's about click counts.
I think this is where unemployed go to learn new skills so they can enter the workforce. However, the computer looks like it has a BSOD, which means its a decade old at least. . .
If your job is to lie it is never an good idea to show people around. In this case the blue screen is only found in ancient systems or newer systems that have crashed. Look up blue screen of death. It reminds me of the tour they gave of the GLD gold storage vault where they showed one of the bars close enough that the bar number could be read, and traced to another owner. What was supposed to be confidence building was not so much. Always follow the lead of the IRS, erase the evidence, destroy the evidence and audit to death anyone who dares to continue to on the path to truth.
At least there wasn't any dwarf tranny porn on the screens.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Screen_of_Death
I love Stack Dumps!
A Dell Computer running some form of Windows - cringeworthy in its own right. It brings back memories of companies I used to work for, that thought they were smart by outsourcing their IT department. What's worse, was that because of contracts, they were unable to even test out alternative platforms, such as Linux.
It's actually pretty fitting since they get all their data by calling only people with landlines.
Listen Zero's.
I can't believe I clicked into this.
Is that the blue screen of death, or are they running Word Perfect?
Just a design study of Windows 11.
Government, being nothing more than a criminal syndicate of theft and violence, always produces the opposite of the stated goal. Always.
This is because the stated goal is nothing more than an excuse, a lie, for additional theft and treason.
Therefore: "Jobs Centers" are nothing more than theft-holes for pols, crats, and their "favored" contractors, to enrich themselves with. Their "clients" were previously created by prior scams, and thefts, by other pols, crats, and "favored" contractors, and are nothing but convenient pawns.
An American, not US subject.
"Lately some banksters have been putting a new meaning to 'nailing it'."
kchrisc
Unfortunately you are correct.
Jobs training on an obsolete piece of shit? Now that's the Amerika I know and love! Hope and change; speaking of change, got any? Find any employment there, guys?
There's plenty of employment, its just all going to foreign or illegal labor.
tylers
this is the most shit article ive seen for a while, go and find out and tell me something significant
looks like an old optiplex, might even be running xp so fucking what
the bureau of labour are just the benefit police and the people in there probably have to be seen to be making an effort, thats what its like in the uk but you dont even go that far
get a grip, stop being a news aggregator like the huffington post and try and live up to your rapidly diminishing reputation
arseholes
soooo, ur message is, ur too busy wanking ur willy to go out and get ur own news? or even think ur own thots?
Now back to the article about the run on Silver
Is the hack from Russia or China?
I think putting people in tiny cubicles, under poor lighting, next to people they don't like, and giving them computers that don't work the way they should is actually pretty good training for what to expect in the corporate world.
The BLS should also send applicants emails at 2:16 am bitching at them for not responding to an email sent at 1:01 am.
wow what an interesting and very telling post, pffff
The unemployed are screwed. We are coming face to face with a harsh reality. The long term implications of poor job creation are massive. We are seeing that a huge number of people have dropped out of the work force. Often these people have little in the way of savings, this means the burden of caring for them will be transferred to society. If to many people shift into this category we will slowly wear down through attrition.
Finding a fair way to share and balance the work load that goes on every day is one of the most important problems facing our modern world. Failure to discover a solution to this dilemma bodes poorly for our consumer driven economy and adds to the toxic problem of inequality. Many of the numbers and budget projections of the government have been based on far better employment numbers then we are currently facing or will be facing if this continues. The article below looks at the long-term implication of poor job creation and how it will drastically impact in a negative way both the wealth and future of America.

That's the porn terminal. When I worked for Kobe Steel, the Japanese had a dedicated terminal. Only the insiders where aware. Dial-up porn required patience. Aging myself.
;)
Anyone with intelligence, perseverance, and drive wouldn't be caught dead in one of these "Jobs Centers"; they're out doing the things necessary for developing a rewarding career. A Jobs Center is a magnet for the clueless...
This is a stupid article. Job centers can be helpful to those who don't have Internet or job searching skills. While the quality of the attendants varies, they genuinely try to be helpful in a world that has become increasingly acrid towards those who ask for help, as demonstrated in the comments section here and elsewhere. People need help. I don't know if this article proves anything at all except the author seeks clickbait for the jaded to gangbang on the unfortunate.
An excellent depiction about how the useless high cost government works. They can't do anything right.
Why do we have to 'put people to work'? I must say, I am amused by the total denial of reality in the idea that everyone should be working full-time in an economy that is automating. The obvious conclusion to draw is that people should be working LESS. FEWER hours. As to compensation, well that is up to society to figure out...maybe society should have asked this question BEFORE leaping into automated manufacturing.
But it is what it is. The huge jump in productivity caused by the tech revolution has allowed a few to do the work of many. So companies either pay a bunch of people to sit around and do nothing, or they let them go. Of course they chose the latter.
So now we have declining wage/hours overall, and a growing army of idle folks. Neither of whom can afford to 'spend' this economy back to growth. But all the items actually NEEDED are already being made by those few still working, so where is the economy to GROW?
Face it folks...if you WANT this kind of economy, you're going to HAVE to pay a bunch of people NOT to work. You're going to have to get over your Calvinist notions of 'work/eat' and face the reality of your situation. And guess what? The economy DOESN'T CARE. It HAS no morality, no notions of the 'hazard' of rewarding idleness. It only cares that the cold equations be balanced. It is AMORAL, and in the absence of guidance will seek the easiest route towards its goal.
And the economy WILL toss the board, scatter the pieces, and walk away from the table for awhile. Many, many human economies have learned this to their sorrow.
+1 Bemused Observer
Yours was the only reply worth reading on this article.
To me, having people working shit dead end jobs is immoral. Laziness has more morality to it than most of the anti-human garbage that we have to go through in the authoritarian corporate world.
Thank you 9th doctor...:-)
You talk about the economy as if it is something else. I am the economy.
Your solution simply guarantees collapse as the parasite kills the host. I stop working and join the ranks of the money for nothing people.
Thank you Bemused Observer!
I have taken the liberty to print it out and have a few copies with me in my wallet, even translated into another language, to hand out whenever that subject comes up.
Hope that is alright with you.
Thank you! Anything I post here is 'open source', glad you found it useful...:-)
There are BSOD screen savers available.
BLSOD will very soon be re-renamed BLOOD
I've got a bad feeling with the tanks and helicopters moving into Ferguson it will start there next week
The last Dell model to use that desktop case style is at least 10 years old... That's ancient.
You ain't training on those computers running all that bloatware called Microsoft.
Gentlemen,
For novelty's sake, here's a BSOD Screensaver from M$FT.
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb897558.aspx
You can relive your frustrations as the screen "blues out" when you're not hammeing away at your keyboards.
I'm looking for a "Dr. Watson" Screensaver myself, from all the times my Windoze sessions would crash mid development...
