New Russian Military Doctrine Identifies NATO/US As "Threats"; Gorbachev Warns Of "New Cold War"

Tyler Durden's picture

Following a spike in NATO-Russia "close calls," and previous rumors,   The FT reports that NATO and The U.S. are to be openly identified as threats/adversaries in a new Russian military doctrine to be published next month. Furthermore, The FT reports that the Russian government believes it must tie its security interests to China since the Euro-Atlantic framework is too broken. It appears Gorbachev was right in his recent warnings that "the world is on the brink of a new Cold War. Some say it has already begun."

As The NY Times reports, the number of close calls between NATO and Russia is spiking...

The episodes were chronicled on Monday in a report by a British nonprofit research organization, the European Leadership Network, which recorded almost 40 episodes in the past eight months involving Russian forces in a “volatile standoff” with the West that “could prove catastrophic at worst.”

And as Sofia News Agency reports, Former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev has warned that tensions between Russia and the West over the Ukraine crisis have put the world "on the brink of a new Cold War."

Gorbachev spoke on November 8 at an event marking the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall close to the Brandenburg Gate.

"The world is on the brink of a new Cold War. Some say it has already begun," he declared, referring to the crisis in Ukraine.

He accused the West, and the United States in particular, of giving in to "triumphalism" after the collapse of the communist bloc and taking advantage of Russia’s weakening and a lack of a counterweight, using the opportunity to claim monopoly leadership and domination in the world.

83-year-old Gorbachev underscored the failure of global powers to cope with conflicts in Yugoslavia, the Middle East, and now Ukraine.

And now The FT reports possibly the largest and most worrisome escalation yet... (via Bloomberg)

NATO, U.S. to be openly identified as threats/adversaries in new Russian military doctrine to be published next month, FT reports, citing people familiar.

Current doctrine lists only the following as as “external military dangers”: NATO expansion, foreign troop deployments in neighbouring states, destabilization in certain countries and deployment of missile defence systems, FT says

Russian govt believes it must tie security interests to China because Euro-Atlantic framework is too broken, FT reports citing Russian officials and security analysts

Moscow seeks to build Shanghai Co-operation Organization, founded by China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tadjikistan in 1996, as security alliance

Putin speech last month initially contained reference to “Helsinki II”, idea that Russia, U.S., Europe should try to work out new framework for security relations: FT

*  *  *

And one would imagine this gives Putin more latitude in his positioning - if he needed it - internally. Do not forget that Russian generals have also pushed for adding pre-emptive nuclear strikes into the new military doctrine... having also previously predicted the US/NATO as enemies reported above.

When you sit down to play poker, the first thing you should do is check out the other players, and in particular figure out who the patsy is.

If you can't identify who it is, you are it.

The US is expendable to the interests of the dual passport holders who run the show.

the fraud markets continue to hit new all time highs while at the same time the REAL economic and military super powers tell you exactly what they r goin to do to put the tired bankrupted global bully in its fucking grave…notice the reference to a “hard currency”… ya'll know the reasons why China and Russia have been buying all that physical Gold the US and its western lackey’s have been losing via their phony paper price bullshit…..tick, toc…

"Doing away with the US dollar and switching to ruble and yuan payments will significantly increase Russia and China’s say in energy and financial markets, Vladimir Putin has said, adding that the first deals are already underway. In short the President said the US dollar has no future, and that the ruble and the yuan have better long-term prospects. “Payments in rubles and yuan are very promising. Switching to such a large-scale work means that the impact of the dollar on the global energy sector will objectively decline. This is not bad either for the global economy, or the world of finance and the world energy markets,” Putin said at the APEC Business Summit in Beijing Monday.
“It will help expand our capabilities in mutual trade and influence both world financial and energy markets," the president said. Using local currencies will speed up trade between the two countries who are aiming to reach $100 billion by 2015. Trade between Russia and China is already nearly $90 billion, and is scheduled to hit $200 billion in the next six years. "The People’s Republic of China is one of our key partners in the region. We will make greater use of settlements in our national currencies in our trade with China. We are already carrying out our first deals in rubles and yuan," Putin said. Payments in national currency are planned particularly in trading oil and that Russian experts are currently assessing the possibility. The two countries agreed on a currency swap worth up to $25 billion on October 13. Moscow and Beijing aim for a broader use of the yuan and the ruble in mutual settlements across industries, including defense, telecoms, energy, and mining, possibly by one of Russia’s major companies, according to Putin.

Russia’s second biggest bank, VTB, has already begun to reorient business towards China and is working with Chinese regulators to remove restrictions to allow ruble transactions. “Our contact with the leadership of China’s biggest banks shows they share this interest. This is consistent with the plan for China to bring the yuan to the next level and make it a hard currency,” VTB head Andrey Kostin said at the summit, as quoted by RIA."

In reference to gold, a relatively rare commodity, with all these countries and citizens buying it why is the price going down.  First thing anyone learns in economics is supply and demand.  The price should be going up, not down.

Personally I believe the demand is there and the buying is happening.  Methinks the price is going down to try and discourage purchasers from getting into it, such as China, India and Russia.

That's utter baloney, a kind of hallucinatory mantra Western war hawks pulled out of their intense desire for winning that bloody war against the Ruskies once and for all. In fact, in a nuclear war, there are no winners. Everyone loses on a mass scale.

I wish he would tell them they have real enemies in t he world; and that they need to be Patriotic and Buy Russian; and that his government would engage in Capitalism with a Russian Face, to coin a phrase; and help start more productive private industries. The less t hey import and the more they produce the better off they will be; and he is in a position to tell them this and have them try it long enough to make it work. The United States did not become a global economic powerhouse by importing stuff from other countries factories. This is a historical fact. When it was time to build the Niagra Falls Hydroelecttric project; the most favorable alternator design came from Mr. Brown, of Brown Boveri and Co. in Berne, Switzerland; but the tariff on imported machinery was too high; so the alternators were built by Westinghouse instead. To the enormous benefit of the American Public, the working man, the standard of living, the whole nine yards. Dear Prisoner,

The notion that the individual is sacred (the foundation of all that makes European civiliziation precious) stems from the early Church Councils and their definition of Christ's status as perfect God and perfect Man.  Sociery would never have stumbled on this idea otherwise.

The idea that God became a man means man is God's highest creation, and this has all kinds of implications for how people should be and how society should be organized. The resuit was the Christian invention of universities and hospitals and creation of great works of art and architecture.

Not trying to convert you to Christ (although that's not a bad idea), just saying it's inane to link Christianity with ignorance (which doesn't stop "enlighted" types from peddling this canard; they've been doing it since the "Enlightenment" only to bequeath us Nazism, Communism and the liberal-totalitarian regime we are now saddled with).

Concur.

1) They force their Priests not to cooperate with Nation-States regarding Child Molestation Cases among their Clergy (and of course, Laity), which provide for cover-ups for underlying Child Trafficking Rings;

2) They've been designated by the StateDept_USA as a Money-laundering Concern;

3) Since the Dead Sea Scrolls turned out not containing the Gospels - the earliest copies now being available from 4th Century CE onwards - all available evidence points to Christianity being a construct of Constantine and others, amalgamated from Regional Myths(Mythra, Dionysus, Zeus, Dagon-the-FishMitre,etc.) and Movements (Chrestus) with a fabricated tie-in to Judaism.

It's a scam that harnessed the lives of its subjects and the Upright with the Roman Empire as the Original Population Base.  How else can one come up with "Absolution" and "Penance" as a means of circumventing the Rule of Law?  After bringing about the Post-Roman Dark Ages, they're responsible for the suppression of technological advances of the Western Civilizations for nearly a Thousand Years.

Therefore, one can say the same for Christianity in the long run.  It's been approximately 20years since the Dead Sea Scrolls Myth (of containing the Gospels) has been debunked.  With spread of these and other pertinent data over the Internet and Social Networks, the Upright will continue their Exodus.

One can't be an Ethical Theist and remain in Christianity, once the facts are revealed to them and the Rest of the World.

Putin has blamed "speculators" for the ruble's declining value against the Dollar, Euro and Yen:

"We have seen speculative fluctuations of the rate, but I think it will end soon in the face of action taken by the central bank in response to action by speculators."

But recall that back in August 1971, Nixon was saying the same thing:

"In recent weeks, the speculators have been waging an all-out war on the American dollar. The strength of a nation’s currency is based on the strength of that nation’s economy – and the American economy is by far the strongest in the world. Accordingly, I have directed the Secretary of the Treasury to take the action necessary to defend the dollar against the speculators."

If you'd ever been to Russia (particularly east of the Urals), you'd know that.

But even in your small American village - where you apparently possess an Internet connection - you should be able to research and discover that average per capita income in the United States is multiples of that in Russia (specifically, US per capita income is $53K and Russian per capita income is $14.5K).

There you'll be greeted by sky-high unemployment, a life expectancy almost a decade less, a vibrant state-controlled media, a failing currency, rampant police corruption and the gulag threat if you don't knuckle under.

And because most folks are trying to flee Russia, you can even earn generous ruble incentives if you stick around and help grow the population!

As time goes by Putin continues to rack up more points in the Ukraine as the conflict drags on. Things appear to have quieted down to many as the eyes of the world have moved to more pressing issues, but the war continues and Putin is playing the long game by grinding away at the resolve of both bankrupt Kiev and the EU. A recently signed deal for gas supplies to Ukraine was a sign of hope to many, but it only highlights the devil of any agreement is in the details.

The Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak said any resumed supplies could be halted again on Jan. 1 if Ukraine doesn’t pay $3.1 billion in debt prepay for future deliveries. It appears this deal is tenuous and the guarantees of it being fulfilled are weak. Don't hold your breath for Putin to back-off or back-down, he has put down his marker and is now playing both Obama and Kerry for fools in a contest that may cost Russia little. If Putin doesn't get his way next week he will next month or next year at the latest. The article below delves into why this conflict won't be over until Putin says its over.

Are the Tylers plugging Bulgarian News Services for what's going on in Rossiya and what their Politicians have been talking about?

May I recommend the following:

  • Rossyia 1
  • Russia Insider
  • TASS
  • Kremlin
  • Vineyard of the Saker (Blog)

And their respective Youtube Channels - many uploaders "Close Caption" the NewsVids for us.

re Russia sees USSA/ZATO as Threat

WHat took them so long?

I coulda told them that 15 years ago - after the trumped-up, unprovoked USSA/ZATO attack on Serbia.

Thanks for mentioning Serbia.

The US "kinetic action" against the Serbs was when the scales finally fell from my eyes, and I saw US foreign policy for what it was, and what it remains.

After being a strong anti-communist Cold Warrior for decades it was the bombing of Yugoslavia that threw me over against the US and its vassals.

My hope is that the East will coalesce into a sufficiently strong entity to draw a line that the West will dare not cross.
