Where is abortion?

Left Wing:  If Lashonda chooses to have her eighth abortion, you should be forced to pay for it.

Right Wing:  If Little Biffy Spratt gets knocked up by the quarterback, then she should be forced to have the baby.

Libertarian:  Biffy and Lashonda can do as they see fit.  You should not be forced to pay for others to have an abortion, or subsidize other's child.

I rarely log in or comment on ZH ...but I felt compelled today….. to give you a big green UP arrow for your link and reference to:  CHALLENGE THE CULT OF THE OMNIPOTENT STATE AND DEFEND THE RIGHTS OF THE INDIVIDUAL!

That is the basic philosophy that this this country was founded on and how our society was set up to it to function ……….it has been derailed over many years by evil, greedy, controlling, and anal people who just couldn’t let the American experiment succeed.  The current problems we face a beyond big but …but all could be resolved rather nicely if we, as a country, as a people, as Americans…..could find a way to stick with the basics principles and common sense rules of “how to live your life and manager your country” the founding fathers set up for all Americans.  Had this country kept the defense of the “rights of the individual” as our guiding light – we wouldn’t be in the mess we find ourselves in today.

I appreciate your posting and thinking.....keep on trucking.....

"this country was founded on slaughtering savages, slavery ..."

This country was founded on applying the lessons of the enlightenment on what was a largely untouched continent. The crimes committed along the way were aberrations (while sometimes massive in scope). It was love of liberty and not love of theft and murder that made America America. The Spanish raped and pillaged their way through South and Central America but that never became a beacon to the world as they did not put a premium concept of liberty.

The American people are not synonymous with the American government. The elites want you to think just a you do because by condemning your neighbors you make the elite's position more secure. By believing that most people want government to commit massive crimes you fail to seek out and ally yourself with individuals who oppose those crimes to one degree or another. By believing what you believe you set yourself up as your own gatekeeper. Why not set yourself free?

Single female demographic gave us the gift that is Obama just as much as that single slut of a hyena that shat out the twisted little pencil-necked bastard into this world. Just as brilliant as any swinging dick button-down asshole that gave us a Bush or two and all of them gave us a shit ton of dead brown people and robbed us blind.

Take a fucking bow, suffragette! So much for enlightenment and empowerment. The founding daddies had excellent reasons for thinking as they did. Was intended to make sure only those with skin ( and blood ) in the game had a say. All this fuss for what...burnt bras, a check from Uncle Sam, infanticide, and free contraception that they obviously don't know how to use?
Believe me...if it were the Founding Mothers, it would be every bit of a wreck as it is now and at least 3/4 less fun. Things get just as bloody and bleak with women running the show, so stop making it M vs. F all the fucking time. That division is just as bad as any other division employed on us and it sounds weak and pathetic, to boot.

Believe me...if it were the Founding Mothers, it would be every bit of a wreck as it is now and at least 3/4 less fun.

American Christian Conservatives seek to re-define any gains "science" has contributed to cultures, including "evolution" stories, age of planet, etc.

it's not a stretch to have 'em making up stories that mirror an "Adam & Eve" tale, including Eve's temptation by a snake to eat from a tree of "knowledge" forcing the GodFather to kick Adam out of Eden, thus implanting the memes:

women are the downfall of man, knowledge is the downfall of man, sex is for baby-making only, otherwise, downfall of man.

A significant number of people on this forum alone believe this shit. All this mystical magical invisble grey bearded skyman had to do was publish in the bible a 100 numbers in the series of pi beyond a billion decimal places or the first 100 digits of the first prime number with a billion digits or the speed of light to fiteen decimnal places or the structure of the atom or the periodic table or a picture of the aerofoil or the structure of DNA. Voila, every single person on the face of the earth would know the bible could not have been written by man. Instead we get a bunch of smites and begats and wars and fights and failed predictions. But hey, there is indeed one true miracle, that people lap this stuff up.

How do you break it to the jew, christian and muslim that despite being individually a nice person and even possibly by any other measure, an intelligent person, that on this issue they have been psychologically bent over the barrel and dry humped. I saw a jew today wearing a kippah and I felt like Elaine in that Seinfeld episode when George was wearing a toupee . . . . . you know the rest.

The structure of DNA? LOL. Wouldn't there have been like a gap there until we figured it out as the truth? What if that's where we are? God didn't reveal himself to you the way you wanted so He doesn't exist. Do you see how childish this attitude is? As in, it is exactly like my 4 year old's actions. Yet, she learns.

This is a very telling aspect of theism and my belief that god is the ultimate extension of our ego. Men dominated the world until a few short decades ago (let's face it, still do to a huge degree) so god was an extension of them, hence god is a "him". If women were the dominant gender then I guarantee you god would be a "her".

This has got nothing to do with god and everything to do with human beings.

Mon, 11/10/2014 - 23:27 | 5435258 Cathartes Aura

you make good points, thank you.

as to how to break it the the religionists?  it's a tough call, because EACH believes themselves chosen above the others, and as we all know, "exceptionalism" is a tough belief to shake off.

I like to remind those who seek to share their beliefs that there are billions of people in the world, and each one of them has a different perspective - they may agree on some things, even many things - but EACH has their own perspective, based on their mind's reactions to lived experiences, which can differ greatly.

anyone capable of truly grasping that concept, truly taking it in entirely, usually ends up more reflective than actively seeking to impose their will.

peace.

I've gone to great lengths to try and understand this obsession the human mind has with god. Not that I give a damn about peoples internal magical fairies and what they do and what they said but what I am interested in is the mind and why it creates these phantasms.

If I was to break it all down, all the arguments, all the debates into a single sentence it is this:

"God is the ultimate extension of our egos".

When I debate with someone and attack the concept of god, I am actually attacking that individual, literally, as they perceive it. This is why people can get so upset. If I make a derogatory statement about god, people display the same level of offence as if that statement was made about them - the reaction is powerful. This ability people think they have to pray and make tangible effects on the world around them is a veiled self belief that the world can be controlled telepathically by them. Just using the power of their mind, people really do believe they can change the course of history. This is ego inflated to extra-ordinary lengths. People believe they have magical abilities so long as the commands go via a proxy who they call god.

I always wondered why christians need to pray at all when god must already know what they want. I think prayer is simply a form a self hypnosis,  similiar to a person about to go on stage muttering to themselves "please don't let me stuff up, please don't let me stuff up". There will be many and varied forms of this, but essentially the goal is the same, to appease/calm the mind with a repeated mantra.

It's not about god, it never was, it's about you. Fascinating stuff.

If you threaten someone with eternal damnation (especially an uneducated person) if they don't believe in your god then sure, it's not as immediately threatening and scary as having a gun thrust in your face - but at least a gun is honest. The absolute and utter irony that the tyrant who sticks a gun in your face and says believe what I tell you or I'll blow your fucking brains out, is being honest. An asshole yes, but still honest. The missionary who tells the uneducated they will burn in hell if they don't believe in god is dishonest and subjecting the individual to psychological torture, especially if you are too gullible to tell the missionaries to go fuck themselves. I can't correlate the fact that otherwise decent people will condone this shit.

You are really stretching it there...

If a person throws a gun in someone else's face is not equivalent to telling someone that there is an afterlife.

Furthermore there is an immediacy of response required when someone has a gun in your face.

Most people, educated or not, would laugh if they did not believe in that afterlife...like you.

Or do you laugh???

I now wonder at that since you seem to take the threat of Eternal Damnation seriously as you tranfer that attitude upon others???

(BTW...In Psychology it is called "Mind Reading". It is impossible to know how others think or believe when you do not know them so you transfer your own attitudes upon them. Actually it is quite fascinating.)

So you are not certain about your own stance and not well grounded?

It does make sense now as you are reading another's belief as a threat to your own fragile beliefs.

Do you care to talk about that? Tell me more.

Do you see how you expose yourself at times?

Well this stuff isn't necessarily a laughing matter. In terms of an afterlife metaphorically I laugh if you will, but it's by no means humerous.

Eternal damnation is a hallmark of Christianity, particularly Catholocism so I don't know why you'd assume I'm projecting my own ideas onto others in this respect. It gets tricky because religion is indeed evolving rapidly and now it seems the concept of eternal damnation isn't that popular.

In terms of fragile beliefs that is an interesting observation as I have been described by others as a militant atheist. In this  case are you mind reading me? Is it you whose beliefs are fragile?

The afterlife. What is one glaring attribute of the concept. "ME", "I". I want more. I can't die. I must continue on. It's childish is it not? The concept exudes the immature human stamping his feet demanding more candy. So typically egotistical of we humans. Do animals emerge into the afterlife? Does a foetus? Does a baby? If so, in what state of mind, with what memories. This is dumb stuff. There cannot be any rational answers to these questions.

Again, I must keep stressing. I don't care what the answer is, I have no vested or emotional interest in it. What is, is. If god created the universe in 6 days and needed a rest on the 7th (all powerful?) well then blow me down - what a spin out, but so be it. Empirical evidence is all I care about.

That is really all I care about. I don't have a belief at all when it really comes down to it. An explorer doesn't have a belief in a new land, the explorer just explores and finds what he finds. Christians draw the map and decide their land exists and then never leave port because their drawing is all the proof they need.

Do you really think is your wildest dreams we know what the fuck we are talking about? Do you really?

Do you really think some bullshit texts written over the course of thousands of years by people who believed in magic and witches and dragons really knew what the fuck they were talking about?

You can't mate, you are simply too intelligent. Something is going on here that just doesn't add up.

To answer expressly as to whether I can see my arguments exposed I'd put this down to the rapid nature I write these posts, the vaguaries of the english language and my inablitiy to always express exactly what I'm thinking. It may appear that way, but certainly doesn't seem so from my perpsective.

BTB: I can tell you honestly I have zero fear of death or a supposed eternal damnation. I can happily write "god is a <insert any expletive of your choosing>" (I can't write the expletive because the post will get deleted). There's not an atom of a belief in god in my entire body. The crazy thing is just how offended people get when I do something like this. It is a fascinating experiment actually. Look, not that I like aggravating people but the fact is, I am not aggravating them, they are aggravating themselves. Over a sentence that does not even apply to them. Out of curiosity, if was to write "g is an asshole" are you offended? What reaction does it invoke? Could you not care less? Are you mortified? If so, why? Being scared of a mistical grey beared skyman TT is a terrible state in which to live ones life, I'm not trying to be funny, not trying to be a smart ass, I am deadly serious. A terrible way to live.

You can site Catholicism, crusades, inquisitions, witch burnings....but it's not an honest citation. That was politics, not religion. Just as much as ISIS or AQ. When people just start winging it, it's politics and power.

Oh come on.  Your reference to Lashonda and her eight abortions is transparently racist.  It's not unusual around here, of course; it's the way people talk here.  The regulars get very annoyed when anyone complains.  We all get that.  But your pious denial is a bit rich.

p.s. here is a more accurate revision of your typology:

Left Wing:  If Lashonda chooses to have her eighth abortion, you should jump at the chance to pay for it becuase the kid would cost you 100x more.  Take her word for it.  When people choose things like that they know what they are doing.

Right Wing:  If Little Biffy Spratt has skin darker than a certain shade, we'll look the other way if the boys decide to kill her varmint after it's born; but if she dares to pluck it out of her womb, she's goin' to haaaaaall by way of prison.

Libertarian:  We'd um rather not talk about that.

Seriously, Ron and Rand are no diffierent than any other Repulican in thinking of women as breeding sows whose bodies are owned by the government.

Oh come on.  Your reference to Lashonda and her eight abortions is transparently racist.

So using a hypothetical woman named Lashonda that chooses to have eight abortions as an example, makes me a racist?

Here is some data:

Compared with women obtaining first abortions, those obtaining repeat abortions are more likely to be black (38% vs. 26%).

What does using a hypothetical girl named Little Biffy Spratt that gets pregnant from fucking a quarterback make me?  A pedophile?  A Ravens fan?

Libertarian:  We'd um rather not talk about that.

Margaret Sanger...Yes.

From Wikipedia...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Margaret_Sanger

In 1921, Sanger founded the American Birth Control League, which later became the Planned Parenthood Federation of America. In New York City, she organized the first birth control clinic staffed by all-female doctors, as well as a clinic in Harlem with an entirely African-American staff. In 1929, she formed the National Committee on Federal Legislation for Birth Control, which served as the focal point of her lobbying efforts to legalize contraception in the United States. From 1952 to 1959, Sanger served as president of the International Planned Parenthood Federation. She died in 1966, and is widely regarded as a founder of the modern birth control movement.

The founding principles of the ABCL were as follows:[36]We hold that children should be (1) Conceived in love; (2) Born of the mother's conscious desire; (3) And only begotten under conditions which render possible the heritage of health. Therefore we hold that every woman must possess the power and freedom to prevent conception except when these conditions can be satisfied.

From Wikipedia page on Eugenics...CONVENIENTLY LEFT OFF FROM THE HISTORY OF THE MARGARET SANGER PAGE

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eugenics_in_the_United_States

One of the most prominent feminists to champion the eugenic agenda was Margaret Sanger, the leader of the American birth control movement. Margaret Sanger saw birth control as a means to prevent unwanted children from being born into a disadvantaged life, and incorporated the language of eugenics to advance the movement.[21][22] Sanger also sought to discourage the reproduction of persons who, it was believed, would pass on mental disease or serious physical defect. She advocated sterilization in cases where the subject was unable to use birth control.[21] Unlike other eugenicists, she rejected euthanasia.[23] For Sanger, it was individual women and not the state who should determine whether or not to have a child.[24][25]

Yes. Hitler was a student of her work as well as all of the Eugenicists..

He was very fond of the idea.

There were no Mentally Retarded or Mentally Ill in Nazi Germany. They emptied the Asylums. There were Medical Experiments to be performed.

Then he planned the same fate for the elderly and senile. There was a public outcry with that. So Hitler did not so as not to lose his political support. But thet were also "useless eaters".

Thank you John Rockefeller...

No...It was not targeted at Black People.

Let's consider this a little deeper.   Even most libertarians, I believe,  do not believe murder should  be legal and left to private ordering.   Therefore the libertarian  view of abortion  depends on whether you consider a fetus to be a small human being or a clump of tissue like a cyst.   There is no inconsistency in being a pro-life libertarian if you hold the former view of unborn persons - -  your freedom stops at the end of my nose and all that.

very interesting post & link HH, particularly considering your occasional forays into stirring the shit on this subject - am I to read into this post/link that while you might "hate" LaShonda for killing her "babies" - you would allow her that right, as per your version of "Libertarian" linked?  (I'm assuming it is your version, but as the comments are "missing" I'm not so sure.)

also from your link:

1.3 Personal Relationships

Sexual orientation, preference, gender, or gender identity should have no impact on the government's treatment of individuals, such as in current marriage, child custody, adoption, immigration or military service laws. Government does not have the authority to define, license or restrict personal relationships. Consenting adults should be free to choose their own sexual practices and personal relationships.

So I guess the progressive thing to do would be to just kill them seeing as how we obviously missed out on the opportunity while in utero. That's the beautiful thing about progressivism, they always have solutions. The left has always pushed for abortion, primarily to eliminate "unwanted" low income, low intelligence, low genetic value type people. All we need is a good caste system so we better know where we stand with them. Who it is acceptable to kill and who is not.

People are good intentioned being against abortion, they consider the death of a foetus murder. Maybe in a perfect world all parents would devote themselves to their children, planned and unplanned and all children would get a fair go. Problem is, we don't live in a perfect world. You can't make a parent love their child regardless of your stance on abortion.

Consider this thought experiment. Imagine we are all sterilised at birth, males and females. The procedure is completely reversible. At the age of 18 you can elect to have the procedure reversed, anytime, no questions asked. Every child then born is wanted and the result of a conscious act to bear that child. Ignoring the obvious problems of governments then deciding who can have the procedure, in principle though, would the world be better?

Mother nature is truly horrible. The suffering in the animal kingdom is beyond imagining and can only be the result of unthinking forces. If only we were born sterile at birth with a simple reversible procedure, the amount of suffering avoided would probably make this planet the paradise christians are looking for after death.

But we breed like unthinking animals until collapse, it seems unavoidable.

Parasites ARE the natural world numb nuts. We are the natural world, until nature deems us redundant or superfluous and eliminates us. Of course we have never been afraid to step in and give nature a helping hand.

OH MY FUCKING GOODNESS. Ok, sure, we're parasites and there is nothing we can do collectively to prevent our donwfall. Natrural world you, dumb cunts, I am implicitly referring to as the ecosystem. The oceans, the forests, the fucking AIR. CAPISH.

What the hell? Are you not part of the natural world?

See above where I apparently need to state explicitly that the "Natural World" I talk about is the eco-fucking-system. OK, OK, let me come up with a non-ambiguous term. That part of the earth seperate to humans (that is, everything else), meaning specifically, that part which we affect by our presence.

We shall remain "parasites" until we find a way to voluntarily leave this rock and its gravity well.

We could just have less kids, it is that simple. All the problems are either reduced substantially or go away completely: global warming, over fishing, air pollution, degradation of top soils, poverty, crime, unemployment . . . . . . . . . . .

We are just too stupid to see the prize right in front of our faces. I'm not saying no kids, I'm saying LESS KIDS.

It's sort of a bit late now, now we do have to really put the screws on breeding and people will not like that. But if you pull all your future population into the present by breeding like fucking rabbits bad luck to you and your species.

A person is a parasite - to the planet.

The decision to abort <you> and <I> will be determined by a scientific fascist elite.  You are not in that club.  You will never be in that club. You cannot join that club.

Careful what you wish for...

A newborn baby is a parasite. Many fully grown adults could be classified as parasites. Just think of all the people you could kill with a clear conscience? (individual results may vary) The oligarchs, the banks, the military, the gangs, the police, they all have jobs for you. You'll never want for work.

Is it possible that death is a part of life. Human bodies are colonies of life. We must have life and death occuring in our Bodies on a daily basis or more frequently.

Pagan Idea: Circle of Life, Wheel of Life, Cycle of Life and Death, Seasons of rebirth (Probably part of Christianity as well)

Libertarian View of Abortion is anything that I say it is.

As a Statist Nation we like to tell people what to do, then we take their kids & put them in Child Protective Services where they get molested, we pay them huge Welfare every year for each child (funded by inflating Fiat), this means the single mothers will be Economic Losers, and parents in my work place will cast judgement on me/insult me/coerce me to live up to their parenting values... because there are kids everywhere even when there are no kids at work I have to live up to the Statist Values.

No, Financially, Economically, Socially, Education System-wise, Welfare-wise, Doctrine-wise... Libertarians allow women to make their decisions about Abortion.

Nanny State Value = No Abortions (Let's Pretend Death seldom happens and people don't grow up to be Zombies that run naked in the USA trying to eat other people)

To find your answer:

Go punch a pregnant woman in the stomach resulting in a miscarriage and then see what you are charged with.

You won't be commended for the helpful removal of a cyst or meaningless tissue.

It's whatever a woman decides it to be. You have no right even asking because you own a penis and thus don't matter.

Hope that clears things up.

I have to disagree here.  I feel that a fetus is a living human being and should be protected as such.  That does not make me right or left.  That just makes my opinion different that a lot of libertarians.  I think that matter is still very much up for debate and only the closed minded want to shut it off.  We might even disagree on what it means to be a living human being.  Some people apparently feel that a child is not such until or after the age of four years.  Does that make them right or left?  I think it makes them demons but that is not a right or left thing is it?

I agree. At what point does it become infanticide? oies the child have to physically pass through the vagina and what about c sections? 20 weeks? Viability on it's own (pushed back steadily by neonatology). I also think it should be up to the individual. Anyone who thinks they can force you to have it should have to take care of the kid. Personally, I'd have to be up against a serious wall to even consider it but I don't want to take anyone else's right to free will away.

But the question is, who's free will are we talking about?  The adult or the child/fetus?  I would fall on the side of the one unable to defend his/herself.  Tough shit for the one that lost control or made a mistake.  My sympathies to the one who was forced.  All the same, the little one caused no harm and doesn't deserve to be punished for whatever the adult(s) did.

how 'bout if the fetus can survive on its own outside the woman's body, then it simply

survives on its own, with subsequent medical care that - who? - pays for.

if we are talking about ZYGOTES and other scientific definitions of fetal development, then it's a different story and outcome.

whatever happened to the precious science you folks hold so dear?

a zygote is not a fetus is not a baby is not a child.

har har billy, no worries tho' - I don't have any zygotes,

and you can't find any real libertarians.

so I guess we've both just got another click bait thread where HH comes in and drops a few shit stirring posts then vacates.

I'll leave ya to your messages, mr. "2 weeks, 4 days".  I'm outta here. . .

OK, that's fine, you look after it then. How far does your charity go? Let me guess, it doesn't go beyond the actual debate does it?

So stab it in the head before it breaches the birth canal?  What is just part of the head gets through, is it a fetus or a baby then?

Seriously though.  Using your first criteria would mean virtually all abortions performed would be killing viable children.  Science says so.

As to who pays, who is responsible?  If you throw a rock through a window and break the glass who is responsible to pay for the damage?  If you get yourself or a girl pregnant (not knowing your gender) then you are the one who threw the rock.  You broke the window.  Sure, you had help but you did it.  You pay.

Responsibility.  It ain't complicated.

Ok, Mz/Mr Science Professor, when is a "zygote" not a zygote and when is a fetus a fetus?

I want the day "YOUR precious science" has the answer...
