In the UK there are not demonstrators demanding the release of political prisoners - not yet, anyway - but the police regularly assault and/or arrest protesters at demonstrations. The Mayor of London - BoJo - has recently bought water cannons.
In at least one case several years ago, an elderly innocent bystander walking home from work was assaulted and beaten by police with batons at a demo and he died soon after on the roadside.
All marches & demos have to be pre-approved by the police, who often insist they follow a route along side streets and back streets where nobody can see them. The police use a variety of devious tactics to stifle & block demos to prevent them getting visibility. This is especially true if a demo is taking place against an international political gathering, eg NATO.
Several years ago, a small coach load of demonstrators on their way to demo at an arms fair were stopped by police under "anti-terrorism laws" and held on the roadside for the whole day until the arms fair had finished.
My point is that whilst what that video shows in Moscow is bad, exactly the same things or similar things happen in the UK and I'm darn sure in the United States.

I think that Obama's problems stem from a few basics:
1. His childhood was not in America (although this on its own is not fatal). In my view he never really had a passion for the American nation and its people.
2. The promise he showed and the promises he made prior to his election built our hopes up too much and the subsequent turn around disgusted all of us.
3. He has made so many errors in the last few years that his credibility has been irreversibly damaged.
