Except most of us were too young to have realized it back then.  By the time I understood what the ZOG was, that it even existed, and why I was carrying a rifle down the streets of places like Najaf and Hillah...it was too late.

I'm sure my awakening was a lot like the awakening of many in that it took a couple years and came with a lot of soul searching and questioning.  Hopefully I can play a small part in dismantling the ZOG.  We all can, no reason to divide those of us who are on the same side.

I congratulate you on having the mental strength to recognize what you were ordered to do may not have been executed for the right reasons, at the macro level.  Many aim resentment at others because they don't want to confront the possibility they maybe weren't fighting for a pure cause.

My awakening occurred when I was a college freshman in ROTC and recognized the fetishism for war, weaponry and conformity within my fellow cadets and superiors.  I also realized my parents wanted to sacrifice me to the military life to avoid paying much for my education.  I pulled out after the first semester.  It also went hand-in-hand with pulling out of that college and handling my own life.  It was one of the best decisions I've ever made.  This was after being blinded to the truth about the military by a family headed by a couple of Cold War kids who put the armed forces on a pedestal.

8 or so years ago, having learned to critically think decades earlier, I independently investigated the "Bush lied; people died" meme about our 19Mar03 invasion of Iraq.

From page 125 of the Senate Intelligence Committee's "Postwar Findings about Iraq's WMD Programs" (Bolded text in original source)

Conclusion 1: Postwar findings indicate that analysis misjudged the impact of sanctions and inspections on Saddam's weapons of mass destruction (WMD) goals. Analysts accurately assessed that Saddam Hussein wanted WMD, but, in assessing that Iraq had WMD, misjudged Saddam's ability of desire to pursue such programs while sanctions were in place. The Iraq Survey Group concluded that Saddam's primary goal from 1991 to 2003 was to end sanctions, while preserving his ability to reconstitute WMD when that occurred. The ISG found that Saddam's behavior under sanctions, in which he never full complied with the United Nations (UN), reflected his efforts to balance the need to cooperate with UN inspectors and gain support for lifting sanctions, with his intention to preserve Iraq's intellectual capital for WMD. Immediately after the 1991 Gulf War, Saddam was confident in Iraq's ability to ride out UN inspections without fully cooperating. He was surprised, however, by the thoroughness of UN inspectors and, in July 1991, order the unilateral destruction of large numbers of undeclared weapons and related material, as well as evidence that Iraq had not fully cooperated with the UN. The ISG found that the Iraq regime has no formal written strategy, plan, or organization for this revival of WMD after sanctions ended. According to the ISG, this strategic intent was Saddam's alone and his lieutenants understood that this was his goal from their long association with him and his infrequent, but firm, verbal statements are orders to them.

From Hans Blix's 3 reports to the UN Security Council:

27Jan03: Iraq has not "come to a genuine acceptance" of the United Nations demand for disarmament, according to Hans Blix, head of the UN Monitoring, Verification and Inspection Commission. Following 60 days of inspections, Blix reported to the United Nations, criticising Iraq for failing to cooperate fully.

14Feb03: UN Chief Inspector Hans Blix presented on February 14 a report to the UN Security council. Mr. Blix gave an update of the situation in Iraq, and he stated that the Iraqis were now more proactive in their cooperation. He also rebutted some of the arguments proposed by Mr. Powell.

07Mar03: On 14 February, I reported to the Council that the Iraqi side had become more active in taking and proposing steps, which potentially might shed new light on unresolved disarmament issues. Even a week ago, when the current quarterly report was finalized, there was still relatively little tangible progress to note. Hence, the cautious formulations in the report before you.

As of today, there is more.

What are we to make of these activities? One can hardly avoid the impression that, after a period of somewhat reluctant cooperation, there has been an acceleration of initiatives from the Iraqi side since the end of January.

The trend in Blix's reports is clear: Sooner rather than later, Blix would have confirmed that Iraq had no WMDs. As a result, sanctions would have been lifted. As a further result, Saddam would have reconstituted his WMD program.

Thus, I concluded that the invasion of Iraq was warranted.

Some, yes.  Especially if they were drafted. Some don't care what the fight is about as long as they're getting the pay and benefits that are likely better than what they can get in the civilian workforce.  Anyone who has joined the military since the draft ended is a contractor/mercenary. 

I don't wish harm on them, but anyone who joined in the last 15 years knows the worst-case wartime scenarios unless they've been sheltered from mass media by their families.  They know what they're getting into.  Some of those who fall under the "best job option" group have no issue with milking their military service for any extra benefits and payouts they can get, sometimes for the rest of their lives.

There is no reason for me to thank them for treating me like a piggy bank.

Perhaps I have personally encountered some of the worst excuses for human beings who use their status as "veterans" to try to shield themselves from criticism or from the expectation of behaving as responsible adults, or maybe there are just as many scumbags in the military as there are in the general population.  I will not blindly thank someone for their "service" without knowing who they are and how they treat those around them.

Also, the cartoon isn't based in reality.  I can't turn on the TV or drive down the street without seeing commercials, tributes or PR stunts catering to veterans from corporations, government bodies, small businesses or sports teams.  This is only a slight exaggeration.

If the NFL wants to expand its worldwide popularity, maybe having a halftime show culminating in a pandering tribute to America's military veterans isn't the best idea.

 

It might also help if certain veterans or their family members refrain from insulting anyone who made the choice to not be a contractor.  With these people, if you disagree with them they will remind you that they're a vet or from a vet's family and your opinion is not as valid as theirs.  "Did you ever serve?"  "Have you served?" 

If you don't fall into any of the above categories and you're a military veteran, I don't have an issue with you.

Saw 60 minutes interviewing the new head of the VA. He was taliking of the hundreds if not thousands that need to go but how hard it was to fire any of them. They have to have a mini court trial to even attempt to fire these lifers. Of course he had no problem with that as all government employees find it only important to have good intentions. Results are a completely different issue. No accountability for results, only intentions.

Because, those people think Iraq, Afghanistan and all the other covert meat grinders in the world were justified. At the time I wasn't working for the people. Now I help my family, friends and neighbors, not some dipshit in the pentagon sending my guys off to get killed for no reason.

The "thank you for your service crowd" are mostly blind followers of whatever the media tells them to hate. Couldn't get more Orwellian than that, except we've had 15 years of hate rather than 5 or 10 minutes daily.

The "thank you for your service" crowd enables the MIC. They create the social structure that makes joining the military an attractive option. If nobody will fight their dirty wars, they have no power.

So if you're going to thank someone for their service, caveat that compliment with a warning - remember who you are supposed to work for, read the damn constitution and the papers of Thomas Jefferson, and George Washington.

I've seen too many idiots recently who think their oath to the constitution includes following orders from their superiors blindly. That is absolutely not the case.

We can't afford it any more.

But we're going to try.  I have my own experiences,  but I won''t even tell my wife about them, because there are some things it's better not to know. Suffice it to say, the Cold War ended with a close call that could have been a one time encounter with secular Armageddon.

Let's accept your point that what Krieger said does not incriminate him of collectivism, but it does incriminate him of either ignorance or utopianism.

The (so far) 5 Gruber videos exposed to the light of day highlight a truth: Progressivism is lies.

Progressivism is also non-compromise. Obama is a zealot, an ideologue, and a prime Progressive. His notion of compromise is "My way or the highway". Even considering compromising with a real, live Progressive is naive. I perused 50+ Krieger blog entries, organizing them into issues, and found only one even mildly critical of Obama.

On a very superficial level, Progressivism sounds good, but in practice it's authoritarianism incarnate, an active suppressor of individual liberties.

Fuck fantasy utopias. They don't work. Krieger's view of Progressivism is not rooted in reality, but in a POV immersed in fantasy utopias.

When Krieger preaches compromise with my enemy, Krieger becomes my enemy. The fact that he doesn't even name my enemy, much less berate it like every person who believes in freedom or liberty should, removes any doubt about Krieger being my enemy. Sometimes, useful idiots are the worst. not the actual enemy her/imself.

Of course, you can disagree with my POV that actualized Progressivism is 100% shit, in which case we'll always be at odds. However, I hope I've clarified my POV for your enlightenment.

We have different world views, and disagree fundamentally.

Here are my premises: (1) Big gov't bad, small gov't good; (2) Public sector bad, private sector good; (3) Collectivism bad, individualism good; (4) Positive rights bad, negative rights good; (5) The dog did not bark in the nighttime.

#5 maybe should be #1. Paraphrased, Sherlock Holmes deduced what didn't happen. But that's hard to do; You have to know pretty much everything before you can deduce what's missing.

I applied the barking dog principle to Krieger, and 53 of his articles. Here's a summary of the article's subjects, preceded by the number of articles for each subject:

Krieger opposes parts of gov't, but not big gov't itself (ie, he didn't bark about it). He also doesn't oppose the Prime Progressive Obama, Progressivism being a political philosophy which espouses very big gov't.

When I searched Krieger's blog for "Progressive" and found the first 5 references to be favorable, even laudatory, that nailed it.

Some Libertarians favor an alliance with Progressives, believing that, since Progressivism preaches liberty and rights, Libertarians and Progressives are natural allies. Sorry, but core Progressivism preaches that gov't should be run by experts, not elected representatives or, indirectly, We the People, because Progressives say: Shut Up, you dumb.

What baffling about your world view is that you fail to understand that big gov't is the ultimate authority, not banks, Wall Street, corporations, or the super rich.

Banks, Wall Streeters, corporations, and the super rich contribute to Democrats, but banks, Wall Streeters, corporations, and the super rich also contribute to Republicans. However, the total contributions of these entities is dwarfed by the contributions of other interest groups.

(Note: Open Secrets is the source for the campaign data in my previous post. There's an attached link to the actual article on the 2 dates '2008' and '2012', but ZH has a fucked "a href" HTML tag; ie, they display the text associated with the link in a slightly different, but hardly discernible, color.)

Since big gov't has become very big under Bush and Obama, and has acquired so much power, there is fierce, competitive fighting among all the hundreds of interest groups to "buy" politicians. Ergo, it is sheer idiocy to believe that our gov't is owned. Adept politicians like Obama can play both ends against the middle, and make banks, Wall Street, corporations, and the super rich his bitches.

Take Obamacare. Obama lobbied the health care industry, insurance companies, the AMA, AARP, etc prior to the enactment of the ACA. As a result, he owned them before enacting the ACA.

And what does Obamacare do? Put our health care in the hands of the gov't. Not insurance companies, or the banks, or Wall Street, or corporations, or the super rich. Obamacare puts our health care in the hands of the gov't.

Why did Obama nationalize student loans in the first year of his Presidency. Because he wanted to put college funding in the hands of gov't.

If we're in the hands of gov't, all gov't has to do is squeeze its hands together, and we bleat like sheep.

Big gov't has always been the problem, not other entities. For proof, please review all of recorded history.
