ObamaCare Creator Admits If He Had Told The Truth "It Would Not Have Passed"

Tyler Durden's picture

Having exposed the disgraceful reality of ObamaCare's passage into law (and then apologized for being caught saying that "stupidity of the American voter" helped Congress approve the bill); a 3rd and 4th clip of the healthcare law's architect Jonathan Gruber (who Nancy Pelosi says she has never heard of despite her role in the law's birth) have surfaced... and it's not pretty. As CNN reports, the emergence of this video with Gruber repeatedly suggesting that "stupid" voters were misled for their own good by Obamacare supporters is a political problem for Obama as the Supreme Court is set to rule on subsidies.

The 3rd video...

"It's a very clever, you know, basic exploitation of the lack of economic understanding of the American voter," Gruber said at the Honors Colloquium 2012 at the University of Rhode Island.

"If you had a law which said healthy people are going to pay in -- if you made it explicit that healthy people pay in and sick people get money, it would not have passed, OK? Just like how people -- transparent -- lack of transparency is a huge advantage. And basically, you know, call it the stupidity of the American voter or whatever. But basically that was really, really critical to getting the thing to pass."

Gruber said he wished "we could make it all transparent. But I'd rather have this law than not."

As CNN reports, on a 4th video...

In this latest video, Gruber's language is not as stark as in three previous instances, but his suggestion that Obamacare proponents engaged in less-than-honest salesmanship remains.

[click image below for CSPAN link to Gruber's speech]

"Barack Obama's not a stupid man, okay?" Gruber said in his remarks at the College of the Holy Cross on March 11, 2010. "He knew when he was running for president that quite frankly the American public doesn't actually care that much about the uninsured....What the American public cares about is costs. And that's why even though the bill that they made is 90% health insurance coverage and 10% about cost control, all you ever hear people talk about is cost control. How it's going to lower the cost of health care, that's all they talk about. Why? Because that's what people want to hear about because a majority of American care about health care costs."

...

Gruber said the measures in the bill that attempt to lower costs constitute a "spaghetti approach" -- throwing everything against the wall to see what sticks. And while preferable to the status quo, Gruber said he could offer no guarantee that any of the measures would work.

"The only way we're going to stop our country from being a latter day Roman Empire and falling under its own weight is getting control of the growth rate of health care costs," he said. "The problem is we don't know how." Experts "know what the problem is," he said. "Our providers are paid enormously high. In the 1950s surgeons are middle class guys like professors...Now they live on the Hamptons, the Cape, they're like investment bankers.

Gruber said attempts to control costs in a real way were politically untenable. "The problem is if we just say, 'Look, let's just cut our spending,' well, the problem is you're going to then eat into what the rich guys are getting that they're liking. And that doesn't go so well. That's going to be pretty hard politically. That's why no one has a politically feasible way right now to bend the cost curve, it just doesn't exist." Politicians could suggest capping costs but "you wouldn't win many elections."

*  *  *
So - don't worry, they lied and deceived you for your own good and in fact costs are just rising as ever...

*  *  *
Of course, the PR team is out en masse... dismissing it as political and blaming Republicans...

Earnest insisted "it is Republicans who have been less than forthright and transparent about what their proposed changes to the Affordable Care Act would do in terms of the choices that are available to middle-class families. I know there is at least one very prominent Republican who campaigned for reelection saying that he would repeal the Affordable Care Act, but yet keep in place the Affordable Care Act marketplace that has operated very successfully in his state."

Asked about Gruber's reference to the "stupidity of the American voter," Earnest said, "I disagree vigorously with that assessment."

The thing you need to remember about the NYT is that under the father / owner; (it's a family dynasty), they bought the Zapruder film of t he Kennedy Murder; and the FBI immediately asked the guy to put the film away in a vault and never prublish any of it; so he did; even though he had paid for it. he was a Cop jock sniffer and never met a Federal Cop he didn't love. This is why they were able to pull off the Kennedy cover-up; then the Son-owner hired a hack named Friedman as a science columnist, or some such job title, who rattled on about global warming for years and years; because the .gov told him to.  If you read about it in the Times you might as well figure it's pravda. They wouldn't know what reality looked like if it bit them in the ass.  Krugman is just the latest example of all  the propaganda that's fit to print.

It's amazing that there are people who honestly believe in the Tooth Fairy Left-Right/Democrat-Republican paradigm.

Really.

Here's what Republican Inside Baseball strategists are instructing GOP House & Senate members to do regarding the 'Gruber Files:'

Hang it around Zero's & Hillary's neck and rage red with anger at these "new" revelations, but whatever you do, DO NOT UNDERCUT THE PROFITS OF BIG PHARMA, BIG HEALTH INSURERS, BIG MEDICAL DEVICE/EQUIPMENT MAKERS, ACCOUNTANTS/ATTORNEYS/COMPLIANCE OFFICERS, BIG CORPORATIONS SUCH AS WAL-MART, ETC. BY REPEALINGNP IT.

I can't believe so many HERE are so gullible.

ZeroCare is more corporate welfare at a time when the middle class is being eviscerated, and a huge wealth/transfer payment from the working class to the poor AND Krony Kapitalists.

"ZeroCare" -you can't begin to imagine yet how apporpriate that name is. Everyone  here will fully comprehend that by this time next year-as well has how little Congress can/will do about it because of the magnitude of lobbying that will be brought to bear on maintaining this scam.  It will be that profitable to its beneficiaries.

While Gruber may have authored it, Congress  "may" have passed it (there was more than a little blackmail=malignant armtwisting involved to make the vote), Obama certainly signed it, but the final piece was the Supreme Court's Chief Justice Roberts declaring the individual mandate, that each Ameircan has to pay their monthly health insurance premium, a "Tax"

A Tax.  There is not a judiciary or legislature anywhere in the WORLD about to define the specific benefits that need be provided in return for the payment of a "tax"

"ZeroCare"

This one depends on what the meaning of "state" was.   According to MacGruber out takes from back before most states declined to set up exchanges, state meant state, exclusive of the federal government.   The original intent of the law.   Usually "original intent" refers to the epoch when the constitution was written.  For this supreme court case we are harking back to the beginning of the Fundamental Transformation of America.  What the law clearly meant when written and argued(though never by elected representatives)

What I ask people who talk about voting out the Dems is this:  When will Reps abolish OCare?  Will they stop unconstitutional NSA/XYZ/GTFO spying on Americans?  Will they stop our next unconstitutional war?  Will they end the Fed?  Will they pass a law that recognizes that only people are people and corporations are not?  Will they reduce the size of government by at least 75% (employees and laws/regulations)?

When I get a deer-in-headlights response I answer for them, "Of course not.  They are just the other side of the coin."

The first step to ending the FED is to Audit the FED.  Harry Reid has been holding up that overwhelming house passed Ron Paul bill for over two years.  When the truth about current funding of foreign banks even now comes out that's the beginning of the end.  Now we will get a roll call vote in the senate in January putting each Senator on record for opposing a bill supported by 75% of the American public.  So, that's the beginning of the end for all the things you mention.  You can't have a welfare/warfare state without debt which takes care of the elimination of the TSA, Dept of Education, etc.  Of course, repealing the individual mandate which will also happen in January, Obama will veto and there likely aren't enough democrat votes to get the 2/3 needed for override.     There is a difference and discrimination is the essence of intelligence.  Think about that!

And the MSM in the US, with the exception of Fox of course, didn't see this as newsworthy enough to cover. Obumboy's signature legislation was a complete fraud which was knowingly misrepresented in the bill based on a calculation of the stupidity of the American people (Oh, and let's not forget Congress) and this is not newsworthy. US media is truly a basket case. But so is this Administration. Perhaps the reason they saw this as not newsworthy is that the lies and fraud of this Administrationhave already been established as a fact.......

I do not think it is so much like this.  Major mass media is owned by just a few masters.  They make puppeh eyes when government does what they are supposed to do in the eyes of the masters.  When government does not do as expected then the media are all over them.

It is more like the media is a tool of a shadow government than the government.  Not that it matters a whole lot to most since about 90% of politicians are bought.  Still, for the sake of the 10% who are genuine, it does matter.

so we are even more stupid? some of us liked math in school. it would make a great 9th grade algebra question. if the cost of something is x which is divided equally amongst 10 people write an equation that would note the change in each person's payment if 5 more people were added to those already paying?

in layman's terms, easy enough for your average dumb cracker to understand(notice i didn't mention the counterpart), if you get more people to pay a part of the same price for something, the price goes down for each person not up. it doesn't go up.

i have a friend who counted on this to retire early and he is realizing he is working for another ten years if they let him.

Look, he's right about a lot of things. I know y'all don't want to hear it, but he's right about wealth inequality re: surgeons at the Hamptons. He's right that the average American is already so trod-upon that even a tiny increase in their cost of living could be disastrous. He's right about the cost of the services of health care being absurd. He's right about us tottering like a latter day Rome, and he's double right about the voter having been educated all the way to total imbecility.

It's just Obamacare doesn't fix any of these things, and he's describing the problems of a failed monetary regime.

"It's a very clever, you know, basic exploitation of the lack of economic understanding of the American voter"

So is the entire monetary system.

Obamacare is nothing but a cash grab for the Feds and the largest handful of insurers, another knife up the ass of the middle class, more incentives, no matter what is now being said, for 'undocumented' Democrats to cross the border for work, or failing that, free shit - and its all being paid for with printing [indebting future taxpayers] and selling bonds [ditto].

Nothing was done about prevention.  Nothing was done to increase the number of doctors or nps, or PAs, etc.

Nothing was done, really, to reduce costs, all while forcing the young and healthy to care for the effects of poor diet and smoking, and to subsidize Big Pharma and the Medical-Pharmaceutical Complex.

Most severe pain could be well-treated with generic tylenol and advil [ibuprofen, acet.] used in synergistic combination.  There - jsut saved you 50 billion dollars or so, if we include the costs of people who get addicted to oxy.

This country is run by idiots who are not perceived as such because they went to the Ivy League, which is disproportionately WASP/Jew establishment, and apparently out of good ideas.

Hamas Covenant - "Obliteration of Israel"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamas_Covenant

Hamas leader Mahmoud Al-Zahhar, Future News TV, June 15, 2010, Source: MEMRI.org

"We have liberated Gaza, but have we recognized Israel? Have we given up our lands occupied in 1948? We demand the liberation of the West Bank, and the establishment of a state in the West Bank and Gaza, with Jerusalem as its capital – but without recognizing [Israel]. This is the key – without recognizing the Israeli enemy on a single inch of land...

"Our plan for this stage is to liberate any inch of Palestinian land, and to establish a state on it. Our ultimate plan is [to have] Palestine in its entirety. I say this loud and clear so that nobody will accuse me of employing political tactics. We will not recognize the Israeli enemy. "

The media blackout on this is exactly like the Nixon Watergate cover-up or the USS Liberty.

The real institution that is shaken here is the (un)Supreme Court.  How could ANY of those so-called justices sit on an Obamacare case going forward hearing that one of the instrumental advisers intentionally used fraud and omission to hoodwink Citizens?

Time to bring out the list of representatives that voted for this and ask them if they now feel deceived. Get them on record and move this Creature back to the pits of Hell.

Don't get me wrong.  I am FOR a more humane health system. Just not one concocted by insurance empires.

These videos goes to show what I have always said: YOU (VOTERS) CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!

The voter is like an ugly fat chick at the bar, when a desperate (drunk) decent-looking, skinny guy comes up to her at closing time and tells her how beautiful she is.

She knows it s a lie. He knows it's a lie. They both know that they both know it's a lie.

But they choose to believe it, and fuck the night away.  It felt good for awhile.  But in the morning she feels like a used slut. Which she is, and is angry.  Just like the typical voter who demanded this shit.

Of course, she cannot blame herself. That is too painful to the ego.

The two groups that come to mind in this fiasco are the young and the unions.

Both voted en mass for Obama and his ilk.

Both absolutely fucked themselves, and in their own asses.  And now they will bleed for it.

The young get to pay a lot more to subsidize fat old fuckers. As they were told was going to happen. Now, (who knew?).....they are not enrolling.  Seems like hope and change isn't worth the cash.  Dope is expensive, you know.

Incredulously, the unions actually voted to decimate their OWN gold-plated insurance with the cadillac tax.  I still cannot fathom a group of people can be THAT fucking stupid and not be considered mentally retarded.

But they apparently are.  I am already seeing my union buddies watch their deductibles go thru the roof to keep premiums under the tax guillotine.  And it is severe.

They were warned beforehand....many, many, many times.  With even less offensive verbiage as this esteemed liberal professor speaking of his own ilk.

I say cut this prof a break.

For once, you are hearing the truth.

But don't get used to it.  Besides, you can't handle it.

Well...the funny thing about health is that at one point you are healthy, and then something happens and you become very sick.  THAT's why we have insurance...so that in case something awful happens, we are covered.  So let's say you are healthy, and then get seriously sick, and then have to change companies (and insurers) - well surprise, surprise...your rates go WAY up, and that is IF some new company will insure you.  So that is why most every developed country in the world has adopted single pay insurance, yes, managed by the nasty government, and to balance out the healthy with the sick.  But in the USA, you want to stay so individualistic that collectivism completely seems to escape the conversation.  Add a little greed by insurers and you get the mess you have now.  Life expectancy declining and a movement to get rid of health Obamacare completely.  What will happen to you all if you are unlucky to get sick while between insurance companies...will be your own doing!

It is your fear.

If you had saved money for health expenses when you were in your 20's, put aside 10k, then anything that came up, IN A SANELY PRICED MARKET, would be covered, and catastrophic insurance would cover anything truly expensive.

In most nations that are developing, healthcare is very reasonable compared to local wages.

In Mexico, all you need is 50k MXN. Beyond a certain age, anything more expensive, you won't be alive to spend the money.

IOW in most countries beyond a given expense line, you don't need the money because you will be dead. In most countries no one is going to spend $2 million to put you back together after you skydive into a rock with no parachute.

America, on the other hand, people burn through all of their assets, their children's assets, and the assets of society, just to extend life 18 months. Americans truly do act as if they are not going to die and that healthcare is there to prevent this.

One can self insure in many nations up to and including major surgery which only costs $20k to save your life in most countries not-developed.

Asia, Monthly wage, $500
Asia, visit to ER, $3
Ratio: 167:1
USA, Monthly wage, $4,000
USA, visit to ER, $2k to $7k
Ratio, 2:1, to 2:3.5

Healthcare in the USA is 100X more than other countries and that factors in local wages and incomes. Thus insurance IS NOT NEEDED in other countries. One can safely and sanely self-insure, aka Pay Cash.

The USA is just a rip-off nation of grifters.

I recommend that any and all stay away.

Today in the current administration in Washington DC it's far easier to come up with the list of what is not a lie than what is a lie.

Extremely important to point out: This does indeed indict the credibility of the Supreme Court as well when the lead architect admits to the general public that the whole law is built on a fraud. How could the Supreme Court with the brightest minds in the land not rule the law as unconstitutional? Based on the commerce clause a US citizen cannot be forced to buy a product from the Federal government. But they ruled in favor of the fraudulent plan and their decision pointed out that a fine was simply another form of taxation. This plays right into the narrative that Gruber has been outlining. So did the SCOTUS also conspire with the fraud? In my view they did. There is no way they did not know all of this going in to the case.

Atomizer - so true. And I have 73 years of life, and the same observation would be true over the span of a thousand years. The only good times are revolutionary times when there is indiscriminate killing of the rich and powerful ie the French Revolution. Anything less is ineffective. Molotov cocktails for all Mercedes (and all black Suburbans) from highway overpasses would be a good start.

Just kidding of course. I dont know what comes over me sometimes. Must be the beginnings of dementia. Crazy thoughts. How could anyone think that someone driving a $100,000 car is in any way responsible for the suffering and chaos in America today.

I would llike to know whether Gruber took any money from healthcare and/or insurance companies.

From the movie "The Long Riders":

Cole Younger: 'Cause you're a whore, Belle.

Belle Starr: I might be; but at least I ain't a cheap one.

Sociopathy in its purest form.  And this gem:

"The only way we're going to stop our country from being a latter day Roman Empire and falling under its own weight is getting control of the growth rate of health care costs," he said.

Forcing people to buy one of the biggest drvers of health care cost inflation is going to control the growth rate of health care cost.

"Blackwhite has “two mutually contradictory meanings" depending on whether it is applied to an opponent — "impudently claiming that black is white, in contradiction of the plain facts" — or to a Party member — "a loyal willingness to say that black is white when Party discipline demands".

Orwell was spot on.

You know this fucker cheated on every one of his college classes and doesn't know shit about economics or anything else.  He survived by being a suck up to people his whole life and then got his big chance by making shit up.  A new economics model just like they have at the BLS and everywhere else.  They need whore shills to "prove" their science.  The only science these psychopaths believe in is sociology and manipulating the low informatation masses.  Just like Romney doesn't care about the 47% that don't like him these psychos don't care about the 20% that have critical thinking and mathematics skills.  They know they can sway the masses to their "science."

The fucking stupid people are the ones who came up with Obamacare and can't even make the website work and still doesn't work after $2 Billion dollars. Obamacare can never work, even with lying and fabricating all the data.

And remember, "need" for Obamacare was an admission that the Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security are already insolvent failures. Hence the need for to reinvent a rationing system like Obamacare.
