Shock At ISIS Beheadings, Silence At Saudi Arabia's: Why?

Tyler Durden's picture

In the past 3 months there has been much discussion regarding the gruesome and barbaric beheadings by ISIS of western hostages. Yet surprisingly, a similar and just as barbaric tradition has been taking place for ages just a few hundred miles east of ISIS, in Saudi Arabia. It has been met with nothing but silence by the same indignant western societies who are quick to condemn ISIS villainy. Why the disconnect? According to the following interview by Canada's CBC reporter Anna Maria Tremonti with Newsweek's Janine Di Giovanni looking at the "shock over ISIS beheadings but silence over Saudi Arabia beheadings" the answer why few if any dare to criticize the Saudis is simple: oil.

From CBC:

The crimes committed by ISIS in Syria and Iraq are immense and repulsive. But videos of the extremists purportedly beheading captives appears deranged. Decapitation as a means of execution has terrified people as long as there have been sharp blades.

But while the world condemns ISIS, not so far away a nation routinely punishes its criminals in a similar way. And sometimes the punishment is for acts most people in the West wouldn't even consider crimes.

Newsweek Middle East editor Janine Di Giovanni has investigated beheadings in Saudi Arabia and she joined us from Paris.

We called and emailed the Saudi embassy in Ottawa to see if anyone wanted to comment on the practice of beheadings in Saudi Arabia. We have not heard back, but that offer remains open.

The beheadings by ISIS and the Saudi Kingdom are the latest manifestation of an ancient horror. Frances Larson has looked into the terrifying and bizarre history of beheadings in her new book "Severed: A History of Heads Lost and Heads Found". She is an honourary research fellow at the University of Oxford.

The full 27-minute interview can be found after the jump. The all too obvious reasons why the Saudis are immune from any western criticism, at least according to the Di Giovanni, are laid out 11 minutes into the recording. Also pay particular attention to the executioner saying he is "doing the god's work." One wonders if he works for Goldman too?

We should just take the oil as war reparations for damage caused to Europe by the ottomans. This is the one thing I can agree on with Trump. Just take all the oil baby.

Because you don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

mickeyman's picture

Because ISIS is our enemy and the Saudis are our friends.

Or is it the other way around?

Mister Ponzi's picture

Judging from the geographical knowledge this was written by a CNN journalist. If you go a few hundred miles east from ISIS you do NOT end up in Saudi Arabia...

A slow death by radiation poisoning is much more barbaric, and no one says much about that, either.

Why?

Because that's what they're selling to the suckers this month. That's all there is to it.

So long as everyone obeys, why should they give a shit?

Saudi royal family is a cancer to Islam.

Jumbotron's picture

"Saudi royal family is a cancer to Islam."

"ISLAM is a cancer"

There.....fixed it for ya zerozulu

And like all cancers Islam will burn itself out killing the host.  They failed the first time when they try to take over the West.  People like Charles Martel and Vlad Tepes crushed them.  They think they are ascendant.  Even the quickly de-Christianing West will get a bellyful soon enough and turn on this primitive hoarde.  It will, of course start with the people with a people's hero in each country for the leaders are ball less ladymen.

But make no mistake about it.  Islam's time has come and gone.  It may start with a secular Western pushback.  It may start with a renewed Christian Crusade.  But when radical Islam hits the streets in a significant way, good men and women of the West will go house to house if need be and sweep away these vermin in their own blood.

And if need be.....and SHOULD be.....take it to these rat bastards homes and slaughter their women and their children as a lasting reminder.  Practice your barbarous religion in your own home and country.  But not here.  Never here.  Never again.

Random_Robert's picture

yeah, but tell us how you really feel about Islam... ?

Bendromeda Strain's picture

Maybe they ignore Saudi Arabia because they have never faked a beheading. Only select people are allowed to be staging events. What's that? Those are the same people? Oh... never mind then.

It is sort of hard to get any real criticism from the MSM when the Saudis own 9.8% of News Corp (Fox) and large chunks of shares in all of the other US media outlets of any size.

chiswickcat's picture

Would you prefer to die a painful, and often unsuccessful the first attempt, electrocution, (USA) or a non-painful beheading carried out swiftly by a professional? (such as in Saudi Arabia) Let's not forget both methods are used as part of the judicial system as a capital punishment for a crime considered worthy of the death penalty.

Yes, a Freudian slip no doubt, east would be Iran. But I wonder what these three wonderful, peace loving theocratic paradises on earth could all possibly have in common ;-)

Unlikely venues for an Ozzy tour or a Black Sabbath reunion concert?

lol...I guess we better roll with that.

Although the environs do have that macabre vibe goin on ;-)

We are... or what do you call trading real oil for fake money? We have convinced them to accept electronic ones and zeros in exchange for empire building oil. I say thats taking the oil, dont you?

While perhaps true, many of the beheadings are performed on criminals, not just on random people. In addition, the executioner who performs it does a good job of it, not a hack job with a dull knife. Given that the US executes folks too, I dare say that it is an argument of method rather than an argument over substance.

Urban Roman's picture

Um, yeah, the Saudis are executing criminals.

Sounds OK until you find out that allowing a woman to drive a car is a crime.

Along with any number of other silly things.

Squid-puppets a-go-go's picture

Now hang on!!! Women driving, while a crime, is NOT the kinda thing they execute people for. Beheadings are reserved for the outrageous sorts of crime like 'whistling on a tuesday'

To bad we can't send the Kardashians over to have their heads sliced off for lack of talent.

If that offends you, just send over Kim and have them do a little tush "nick and tuck".

ZombieHuntclub's picture

This is a horseshit post by the Tylers. The reason ISIS whacks people's heads off is to terrorize their enemies. Doing it as the Saudis are as a way of capital punishment after some trial is another matter entirely. This article is nothing more than some lib trash's attempt to demonize our little brown brothers.

Squid-puppets a-go-go's picture

OMG u surely left of the sarc slash? you did dint u? .......u didnt? ...wait what? omg you are that much of an Anglo-centric RETARD that you morally equivocate between different beheadings?

MAAAAAAAN Goebbells would have been so proud of you if he'd lived to see the full realisation of the power of propaganda ensconced in your fucked up viewpoint

Hell...The Guillotine will be used in the United States before this is through...for the deserving.

Sharpening my steel blade...

kchrisc will open a franchise before this is over. If not him then I.

It is actually quite humane. Hell it is much more humane than burning people from the inside out...Or...with Hydrogen Cyanide gas immersing the victim in an acid bath. (HCN is an ACID. It burns up the lungs causing suffocation. But it burns the outer skin and eyes also.) Or Electrocution which cooks the victim alive. Or lethal injection where the Panchromium Bromide burns much like NOVOCAINE in your gum...except it is throughout your entire body.

Yeah we might as well burn them at the stake as it would be more HONEST.

No I am not anti Death Penalty.

We can kill without any suffering through the use of a Nitrogen Gas atmosphere which causes anoxia, laughter, unconciousness within 15 seconds to a minute, and death in six minutes. But most Death Penalty advocates will not have that as they want people to suffer horrific pain.

Now that is much more barbaric than a beheading. At the most you suffer for 15 seconds...if that...from a beheading.

Yeah...Bring back the guillotine. Or burn them at the stake. By God Almoighty be HONEST about what you are doing and why you are doing it.

That is what really makes, me think to terminate lives...DISHONESTY. The wages of sin are death and none are so deserving as the DISHONEST.

That is why the Banksters are first in line for the Guillotine.

Trucker Glock's picture

First, you say "It is actually quite humane."

Then, you end with "Banksters are first in line for the Guillotine."

I'm confused.  You like banksters?

Tall Tom's picture

No. But I do not like torture much more than I do not like the Banksters.

The desire to torture is an attribute of psycopathy.

Does that clear it up?

after some trial---? and you know what about this "trial", exactly ? Would you feel that your natural rights as a human being had been adequately represented if you were the subject of one of these "trials" ?  A couple of years ago The Saudi .gov beheaded an old woman for the crime of putting a "hex" or "curse" on a man, resulting in his impotence. She shouted that she was innocent and had done nothing, until she was gagged; and then beheaded.  Always remember to show the full respect due to any "major religion" regarding any practice of the "religion of peace".

john.smith's picture

being a saudi, I can say you are correct that most people executed in Saudi are criminals, mainly murderers. However, we have had a few "wizards" who have been executed, and usually one or two are executed every year.

The U.S. cracked down on that shit a long time ago in good 'ole Salem Massachusetts, cept we didnt behead them we just burned those mother fuckers on a stake "humanely"

There was no shock when ISIS was doing atrocities in Syria.  And no shock or outrage at the horrible death of Gaddafi (Hillary joked about it) or about the complete destruction of Libya.  Nor at the thousands of people illegally droned to death by the Nobel Prize Winner including women and children.

Outrage is so selective these days.  Everything that Putin does is an outrage while the West can flout every law without rebuke.

Everyone seems to have forgotten that ISIS was made in America:

ISIS: The jihadist movement stamped “Made in America”

The fact remains, however, that the US, the major European powers, and their regional allies all previously lent financial, military and political support to ISIS and similar groups, which have “Made in the USA” stamped all over them. They have, until now, played a significant part in Washington’s efforts to overthrow the regime of President Bashar al-Assad in Syria, as part of a broader effort to gain control of the region’s vast energy resources and transit routes.

OK, that was just a children's storybook. But in it, the New York mayor does offer to let the Saudis destroy the World Trade Center instead!

Just today the British press are reporting the pathetic bleatings of the head of NATO that it is (so says he) terribly terribly naughty of Russia to fly it's military planes around places without filing plans and generally checking with him first.

Strewth!

Elsewhere they report that Putin says that lower oil prices present difficulty but they have a plan to deal with it is a sign of weakness. Perhaps the US government is depressed it couldn't sign a deal with China for Americam shale oil? Meantime our limp wristed PM is giving out tickings off to Putin on behalf of Obama & Co. Perhaps Putin no longer bothers with the Poofter in Chief?

The difference is that ISIS beheaded British and US journalists.   The press makes a big deal out of it since they protect their own.

When the 'rabs are beheading or crucifying each other no one cares.

Holy cow dude, that's awful. Wonder why they didn't disappear the dashcam. I thought there was a law on the books somewhere that the dashcam can only be used against you. For real, only to prosecute you, despite the fact that it's public property.

Anyone can subpoena any dashcam at any time for any reason.  If it helps your case your lawyer can get the dashcam footage and use it in court.
