Glass Passe

A little more than a year ago, I did a post with a typically subtle headline: "Why Google Glass Will Fail Miserably". Well, this just appeared in Reuters, and although its headline isn't as blunt as mine, the article pretty much states that Glass is every bit the flop I predicted it would be.

1116-glass

Some highlights from the article......

+ "Of 16 Glass app makers contacted by Reuters, nine said that they had stopped work on their projects or abandoned them, mostly because of the lack of customers or limitations of the device."

+ Among the developers, one small, unimportant outfit that's ditched Glass is a firm named Twitter

+ Glass now sells on eBay for as little as half list price.

+ "Alex Foster began See Through, a Glass advertising analytics firm for business, after a venture firm earlier this year withdrew its offer to back his consumer-oriented Glass fitness company when it became clear no big consumer Glass release was imminent."

+ And the corker: “It looks super nerdy,” said Shvetank Shah, a Washington, DC-based consultant, whose Google Glass now gathers dust in a drawer. “I’m a card carrying nerd, but this was one card too many.

So there.

Google Glass is repugnant uber-creepy shit from an outfit that's a bigger threat to our privacy than the NS@.

What could possibly go wrong?

Google Glassholes

Where do you find them? Look at those founder photos in VC funded startups.

Yeah, they marketed to the right demographics. It's just that they are douchebags.

The fatal mistake was not technical.....because Apple crap work like shit and still sells.   The problem was pure marketing.   Today's brainless consumers only buy what's 'trendy'....and Google Glass never put in the time to get the 'hot' people to use it.

Yep

Just like nobody gave a damn about Microsofts touch screen tablet that Bill Gates was showing off in the 90's. FF a decade and everyone wants to fondle the screen.

They just didn't target the right consumers.  Now if AAPL made glasses like this, there would be lines for blocks to buy.

Cute girl sat down across from me wearing Glass at the airport and said "hi."  I didn't say a word, just looked away and moved as far away from her in the gate area.

Don't kid yourself.  She was saying, "Hi" to her imaginary friend that she can only see on Goog Glass who happened to look like he was sitting where you were.

I think it was part of a "Make All Ugly People Look Pretty" App.  It replaced you with a picture of an owl.  But it was a pretty looking owl.  And a better conversationalist.

Sorry about the insults, but you set it up so beautifully.  I couldn't resist.  Woulda said the same about meself ...

Tim, this is OT but I also live in "SillyCON Valley."

What's up with all the empty commercial real estate around here? Again, it's malinvestment thanks to the assholes at the FED, but how bad are these commercial RE companies doing if they have all this empty office space? Do they use the "losses as tax writeoffs?"

Lemme guess:

Too many ads?
Download speeds were too slow so the screen info never synched with your location?
The bloody thing was always stopping to download some more updates?
It didn't work unless you had the latest Flash Adobe Update which always seemed to be a little bit out of reach?
You had to download an App in order to turn it on?  Nooooooo, not that App!
It was free for the first six months and then it wanted your credit card details?

Gee, where did I get all them ideas from?

Oh, I know - it was built on an XP platform and then they couldn't update it.  No?  Oh, it was built on a Win8 platform - what else do you need to know?  (Ummm, I think Goog is Android (but I can't remember) but who knows?  I'm quite sure we can still blame Win8 somehow.  You know it makes sense.  Oh okay, it doesn't.  But since when did that matter?  The whole world hasn't made sense in a long time ... )

In order to activate it you had to get the password from a different email address?

Where is that rascal Reggie? Too many embarassing moments to deal with I suppose. First his rediculous ultracoin nonsense never even gets far enough off the ground to go down in flames, and now his beloved crapple glass getting the sort of attention it has always deserved. How sad.
