One Reader's Shocked Response Upon Learning His Health Insurance Cost Just Doubled

My wife and I own a small business and we had previously (in 2013) been buying health insurance on our own for ourselves and our two kids. The cost was about six hundred per month with a $5200 deductible, $6800 total out of pocket exposure for the family of four.
After spending months trying to register for the ACA in late 2013 and early 2014 my kids got put on our state's insurance (at "no cost") and my wife and I bagged an ACA policy at a subsidized cost of $281 per month with a total out of pocket of about $6500 (just for the two of us).
Attached is the ACA notification of next year's price increase. As you can see the cost goes from $281 to $555, a monthly increase of $274, a percentage increase of 97%.
Basically we are now paying the same amount for the two of us that we paid for all four of us one year ago.
How can that increase occur in a "free market" economy? Did I miss something? Has some input cost leaped exponentially in order to double the price I pay? Or has private industry colluded with government to rig the markets (again) in their favor?
How much longer will the American people allow corporations to rip them off in collusion with the government? Fuck this bogus economy and government captured by corporations. Where is the leader who will rise up from the masses and snuff out the corp/govt nexus before it imprisons us all in debt serfdom police state?
Do you think for one minute that freaking Mitch McConnell, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, John Boehner or anyone newly elected or previously elected cares one shit about my wife and kids or what we pay for crappy health care that we cannot afford to access due to high deductibles? - Dems knew they had to lie to people to get them into Obamacare, hired an economist specifically to find the best way to do that
- Economist admitted that bill getting passed depended on duping the stupid voters, in almost those exact words
- Dems knew it would hurt the insurance companies, unless they massively subsidized the program
- Dems understood the economics at work very well, decided that they could just blame the insurance companies for the inevitable rate increases and people would believe it

I am not a fan of throwing bones to the political partisans, but in this case there is one rather important aspect to Gruber admission that the US chattering class doesn't want to address- independents (and false dichotomy team "R") were lragely against the ACA, and team "R"'s Congress critters were uniform in their opposition. So when the pundits (and particulary the team "D" mouthpieces) admit Gruber is correct, they really need to quailify that admission that PASSAGE OF THE ACA WAS DEPENDENT UPON THE STUPIDITY, IGNORANCE and GULLIBILITY OF DEMOCRATS, AND ONLY THE DEMOCRATS AND THEIR SUPPORTERS.
Every time (or most every time) I feel myself start to get caught up in feeling angry about this ACA Tax/Charade I remember something that calms me down.

There is NO WAY out but forward through a complete collapse of both our monetary system and as a result, our gov't and it's programs that require a currency that has purchasing power both here and abroad (due to our imbalance of trade, need for oil, etc).
That means that these ridiculous programs of redistribution of wealth have to come to an end. There isn't anyway around it. It's going to be a complete collapse and repudiation of socialism and big gov't.
Everyone needs to prepare for a future that results from a collapsing currency. That means all gov't employee's to include police/military not able to be paid (maybe they will stick around and do their jobs for food that FEMA has stockpiled?). A sudden stop to most if not all economic activity and most importantly, the fucking thugs that are currently being paid via EBT to stay home and not pillage/burn, will be set free to do that very activity. However, it is not the law because nothing the assholes in congress, the mullato foreigner in the whitehouse, or the vegetables on the supreme court, can do or say will turn health insurance into commerce, or the delivery of health care into an interstate activity. Do not submit to this shit becuase you think it is the LAW - that is a lie. Submit, if you must, because you fear the consequnces of resisting - audits, jail, violence - but don't pretend that there is anything lawful about the ACA.

it's just a coincidence that the insurance and drug companies, some of the most powerful lobbyists in corruption land, had numerous secret oil/cheney like meetings with the current administration and then lo and behold, they now have new laws that the Supreme Court was forced to call a tax in a desperate attempt to make it constitutional and its no coincidence that they enjoy a mandatory product in a protected market that, among other things, does not seek out drugs in the world market for a mere fraction of the cost for a society that is aging and using more of them and it is also just a coincidence that neither of these industries made any concessions at all. I buy the best I can get from HSY Corp. It went up from $4,500.00 to $6,000 with a 90% coverage on medical and they raised the cap on perscription by $600.00 before they cover all out of pocket.
The persription plan is a 60/40 plan which means they must see high inflation on drugs. Just one script alone went up 1000% last year alone. From 100.00 to 1000.00 for a 30 day supply. Not a misprint. When it was generic it cost $3.00 for the same 30 day script. They changed the shape of the drug which took it off of the generic listing status. Somebody can't tell me that Americans are not abused on medical cost. There is no excuse for the abuse by Doctors, Hospitals, Drug Companies and the shitty insurance and healthcare companies. This is not a Bambi issue. This has been a abuse system for over 25 years. We pay more than any other nation for health care and we do not get the best care . We are far from the top on health care. The same goes for Internet and Media companies. Hell, France and Asia have higher internet speeds than we do for much less money.

Exactly right. The underlying problem is that the US healthcare system operates on the principles of Somali pirates. Getting sick is like sailing past Yemen, and they simply take all your money however they please, unless you paid approx. $20K per year in protection money (premiums and deductibles). The whole thing is rigged by lobbyists in Washington, like everything else. I think most progressives who signed on for this nightmare secretly hoped that it would blow up the healthcare industry and open the way for a gradual shift to single payer healthcare that the rest of the developed world has. (Yes, the whole rest of the world is stupid; we are the only smart ones here in USA cough cough.) Alas, the blowing-up process is slower and messier than they imagined.
Obamacare (as Mr. Gruber helpfully pointed out) is a classic "third way" program where -- when it's politically impossible to raise taxes to fund a benefit, you impose regulations that force some citizens to provide the benefit to other citizens directly. Obamacare is a massive cross-subsidy system where the healthy uninsured are forced to pay for the chronically ill. Never much secret about that. So it is essentially a tax; the Supremes were right about that. People are forced to pay for what would normally be a responsibility of government (providing care for the chronically ill who could never afford it themselves.) Not a tax imposed fairly, but a tax.
Even without Obamacare, the uninsured (e.g. me) still have the Somali pirate problem with healthcare. The option to pay $20K protection money just makes me laugh, or is it cry. I forget.

Most doctors and a whole buncha hospitals out here in The People's Republic of Free Shit and Unicorns won't take ACA policies as the reimbursement (pay) is too low.
