Record Beef Prices Soaring By 28% Got You Down? Then Drown Your Sorrows In Cheaper Booze
The bad news in today's PPI inflation report: pork prices surged yet again, rising 6.8% on the month, and up 24% from a year ago, while beef/veal costs rose by 2.1% on the month to a record indexed 251.8% (we dread to wade through the BLS "hedonic-adjustment" calculation for that particular food product) and are now up a sticky 27.4% from a year ago, which is just shy of the recent record Y/Y jump of 28.6% posted in August. So for all those who still see no inflation, could you please share you Delmonico's expense account with the rest of us?
The good news: for the first time in years, booze prices declined from a year ago. So, with compliments of the hoapy president: don't be moapy and start drinking cheap booze, preferably early and often, as you try to remember - in an alcoholic daze - what beef tastes like.

Food prices, especially meat, will be down substantially next year,
due to dramaticly lower grain and fuel costs plus the stronger dollar helping imports.
If you hate inflation, worry about Scumbamadon'tcare. That's the wild card.
In most industries, grunt level workers often are mystified that products such as roof shingles spike dramatically in price when crude oil (the biggest raw material input cost used in making them) prices spike, yet the price of these same roofing shingles rarely, if ever, fall appreciably when crude oil prices fall, even if dramatically so.
The herds were drastically reduced due to feed costs and drought. It takes time to build back up but meanwhile the price sucks.

for those who do not fully appreciate fine cinema Burt Gummer was one of the main characters in the Tremors franchise. They made 4 movies and a telly series. Burt was played by Michael Gross (who also played Alex P Keaton (Michael J Fox) in Family Ties. The original also starred Kevin Bacon, Reba McIntyre and Fred Ward. As the series progressed they apparently got rid of the higher priced talent but maintained the great non CGI special effects. It ranks above all other movies ever made and is screened regularly at our home theater (Ok my bedroom) No one else has even made a movie since the final Tremors prequil as it just seemed pointless. I tried to get the UZI4U license plate but some other fan in Nevada already has it...damn....

Australia has the ability to supply all the beef that the USA could consume. The prices are only rising because the US refuses to import enough supply. Allow beef to freely move from Australia to the USA and your beef price would be dropping a lot. Artificial shortages...
And then watch Australian prices rise.

I almost feel sorry for you. I think nothing of having beef 7 days a week if I want. It's so cheap and bountiful here in the land of plenty. If any of you guys manage to make it over here I'll take you down to the local park and cook you up some steaks on the free-to-use bbqs supplied and maintained by the local council.
