Happens all the time in Albuquerque. They routinely shoot white guys with brake pads in their hands, actually - I've never seen a guy carrying a brake pad, but they have an annual end-of-year season on these guys and usually kill them. So, no camping, no running stops signs, and no brake pad carrying in Albuquerque (file that away).

There is no such thing as "accidental discharge" from a normally functioning firearm. There is only intentional discharge and negligent discharge, and if some dies as a result, swap "homicide" for discharge.
Unless, of course, someone was fighting the cop and grappling for his gun!
That might result in an intentional discharge of the firearm by the scofflaw, but it's also not generally possible to fire a gun while it is securely holstered in a level 2 or 3 NYPD approved duty holster. Then again cops are becoming more and more prone to negligently drawing their firearms in the first place.

Chicago Murders Up 50%: Rahm Manipulating Murder Rate News | The Daily Kos
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and his police chief Garry McCarthy claimed in the first month of 2014 that because of their work the murder rate in Chicago was "down." During each of the next three months it went up again, despite attempts by city officials (and the Hollywood propaganda film "Chicagoland") to claim that Rahm had made Chicago safer.
During the month of November 2013 there were a total of 16 murders for the first part of the month. In the current month of November 2014 there have been a total of 24 reported murders a 50% increase in murders from the same time last year. Raw data was used from RedEye Tracking homicides in Chicago.
Checking if this was an anomaly. Substance News compared homicides statistics for the months of September and October to last year during the same months. September 2013 had 43 total murders compared to September 2014 which had 44 total murders a 2.33% increase. In October of 2013 there were a total of 33 murders compared to October 2014 which a total of 38 murders a 15.15% increase. The totals for both months show an upward trending murder rate of 7.89%.

When factored into the November 2014 statistics there is an upward trending three month 15.22% increase. Murders are up in Chicago despite the cold weather and the increased State and Federal law enforcement agencies working on the streets of Chicago. It only makes one wonder what would be happening if the temperatures were not at record lows and all those extra police were not in here.

Here they are folks, the 10 commandments of gun safety. Every time something like this happens, I go down the list. In every case, you can identify the "sin(s)".
1 - Treat every gun with the respect due to a loaded gun. This is the first rule of gun safety.
2 - Guns carried into camp or home, or when otherwise not in use, must always be unloaded, and taken down or have actions open; guns should always be carried in cases to the shooting area.
3 - Always be sure barrel and action are clear of obstructions; and that you have only ammunition of the proper size for the gun you are carrying. Remove oil and grease from chamber before firing.
4 - Always carry your gun so that you can control the direction of the muzzle, even if you stumble; keep the safety on until you are ready to shoot.
5 - Be sure of your target before you pull the trigger; know the identifying features of the game you intend to hunt.
6 - Never point a gun at anything you do not want to shoot; avoid all horseplay when handling a gun.
7 - Unattended guns should be unloaded; guns and ammunition should be stored separately beyond the reach of children or careless adults.
8 - Never climb a tree or fence or jump a ditch with a loaded gun; never pull a gun toward you by the muzzle.
9 - Never shoot a bullet at a flat, hard surface or the surface of water; when at target practice, be sure your backstop is adequate.
10 - Avoid alcoholic drinks before or during shooting.
