Forget Orwell And Rand, We’ve Gone To Full On Plato
Submitted by Thad Beversdorf via First Rebuttal blog,
Lately, we hear a lot about Orwell’s “1984″ and Rand’s “Atlas Shrugged” but perhaps the best crystal ball to our current state of affairs is Plato’s Republic. You see both Rand and Orwell were describing a world outside of themselves. A world they couldn’t understand or accept. And while those works are brilliant and incredibly prophetic, I expect that to understand a world borne of narcissistic sociopathy one must examine the construct of such a world by a narcissistic sociopath. Fortunately Plato, perhaps the world’s most (in)famous narcissistic sociopath, provided us a vivid illustration and explanation of his ideal state in “Plato’s Republic”. Plato provides us the why to Orwell’s and Rand’s ‘unideal’ states.
Plato provides the arguments for the philosopher kings. He also describes various levels of reality, arguing that each societal demographic must live within the reality level delegated to them. He argues each demographic has a limited intellectual capacity and thus can only handle the reality level provided to them. With the philosopher kings being the only societal demographic with the right to and capacity for absolute truth. Likewise, the philosophers kings in the world we find ourselves today control each and every aspect of life including our subsequent perception the world. There is no such thing as happenstance.
The market moves a certain direction not because of unexplained market forces but because the philosopher kings have made it so. Economic policies are creating incredible wealth for the already wealthy while destroying the middle class not because of honest misjudgements or the need for more time but because the philosopher kings make it so. The Fed dropped the U3 unemployment rate as a benchmark because it does not meet their standard of truth but expects the rest of us to consider that true unemployment. Declining GDP is ignored while adjusted indicators signalling GDP is healthy are paraded all over the street because the philosopher kings make it so. A Malaysian airliner is shot out of the sky not by things yet unknown but because the philosopher kings make it so.
As in Plato’s Ideal State, today’s philosopher kings are the only ones with the right to and capacity for (as decided by them) absolute truth. The rest of us live within the realities provided for and to us. We are handed the explanations and when the explanations don’t suffice the subject matter disappear altogether; refer to Ukraine, Ebola, Malaysian airliner, Benghazi, Fast & Furious, IRS criminality, NSA, Breitbart and the Constitution, etc. We the people take what we are fed in stride and in line with our respective places in the hierarchy of truth. If we dare challenge the hierarchy of truth, as men like Snowden have attempted, we are exiled with a bounty on our head. Or for minor offences such as providing the truth behind declining same store sales your career is taken from you like Bill Simon, ex Walmart CEO who was fired for stating that Americans are buying less because they have less income than before. The philosopher kings make it so.
The facts are we will never know the facts.
We will know but a shadow of truth as ascribed to us by the philosopher kings as described by Plato’s Cave Parable. This is how a handful of men and women control billions of people, the same way 20 cowboys control 30K head of cattle. We are provided food, shelter, safety and fear and in return we are provided a certain reality from which we must live. So long as we remain within our respective realities we will be granted comfort. However, if we attempt to break through a level of truth or worse bring others with us, the heavy hand of the philosopher king will find us by way of the guardian class. In our world we become a threat to national security and once we adorn that scarlet letter all rights that were once guaranteed by the Constitution disappear. The Constitution states no person or law supercedes it, however, by way of executive order the chief philosopher king has granted the philosopher kings a level of authority that supercedes that of the Constitution. And as comfortable cattle do, we paid no attention but strode forward with the herd.
So for those inclined to not only reflect on the prophetic worlds of Orwell and Rand but to understand the arguments for such a world by the philosopher kings themselves, refresh yourself with a read of Plato’s Republic. For wars are won not by force of might but by force of knowledge. Plato was correct in understanding that freedom is found in knowledge. If we accept a shadow of truth we will enjoy a shadow of freedom. But if we fight for absolute truth we will win absolute freedom.

The Plato Ideal State that the author describes would be better called "The Matrix".
Inside The Matrix exists a societal model where the predictions of Orwell and Huxley operate and increasingly dominate, as in "totalitarian".
Like Plato, all truth is what the ruling elites say it is. All facts are what they say. Friends and enemies are who they say they are. News is what they say it is. Democracy and accountability is what they say it is. Economic activity is what they say it is. Reality is what they say it is.
Anybody who dares to think independently, lives outside The Matrix "off the grid" or tries to expose it for the giant corrupt, totalitarian construct that it really is, is hunted down and disappeared one way or the other. Asylums and hard labour camps have been used in the past to deal with dissidents and shut them up.
Whichever way you cut it, there are parallels to the emerging Western society today and the totalitarian models imposed by past despots Mao, Pol Pot, the old Soviet Union and many others.
Since The Matrix has been in the making for many decades (even longer in Britain) and is wholly structured to keep the ruling elites in power, there have been plenty of corrupt laws enacted to use against opponents to control and deal with them.
The MSM Daily Slime and judicial systems are simply agents of The State to give the appearance of a citizen-centric system of justice. It is anything but that.
And as many people have spotted, the whole system of "welfare" is used like a drug to keep the masses docile and obedient. Disobey the master and your welfare gets cut. You will obey.
The really bad news is that it's probably true that ALL societies eventually end up going down this road, if only because whoever is in power at any moment soon becomes intolerant of dissent and disobedience since it undermines their authority and risks their power structure.
"... if we fight for absolute truth we will win absolute freedom."
We have to regain Vision first:
"People like the economists F.A. Hayek and Milton Friedman, novelist Ayn Rand, mathematician John Forbes Nash and psychiatrist Ronald David Laing, will promote the idea that man is an egoistic being which works only for its own personal interest. Extreme individualism becomes increasingly one of the basic characteristics of the Western man and concepts such as altruism, collectivity and solidarity are dismissed from the central core of his thought. The Western man accepts rationally that these concepts are clearly utopian and that they will never be applied massively in societies.
[...]
Generations of pragmatists grow with cliches like "this is the best society we can have", or, "humans are what they are and will never change". Thus, ethic, in many cases, ends to be a kind of luxury and replaced by a crude economic pragmatism and an extreme cynicism."

Disagree on this point.
We are provided food, shelter, safety and fear and in return we are provided a certain reality from which we must live. So long as we remain within our respective realities we will be granted comfort.
An ever growing number through no fault of their own now find their lives no longer have meaning, future or worth all destroyed by the philosopher kings. But they learn to live within this harsher reality ... they will be the ones to destroy the philosopher kings AKA the bankster class.
Reason is simple if you QE +20% of the pie the pie is still finite in size and is the new 100%.Their action.
The philosopher kings, on this finite economic pie, taking the lions share for themselves will never leave enough for the rest to live a life of Plato's granted comfort without many being left with nothing.
>> But if we fight for absolute truth we will win absolute freedom. <<
Since we're human, truth can never be absolute, nor can freedom. Absolutes are in the domain of the philosophers who - inside their ivory towers - can declare their favorite truths "absolute".
If we, simple humans, fight for absolute truth, we become zealots, the caliphate of IS.
The only way to reach absolute freedom is to divest ourselves of our worldly trappings, a state we usually call death. That's the price to pay for any absolute. As to divestment, the caliphate and its followers will gladly lend a hand.
OK, enough! Here is the absolute truth, ...... It's all bullshit, and you're wallowing in it
For wars are won not by force of might but by force of knowledge...
You have summarised the conundrum of societal forces in history as the pendulum swings from one to the other : iconised by Plato's philosopher son Aristotle (the logic of knowledge) who completed Plato's idealistic grasp by his own contrbution of factual analytic logic that led to the pragmatic meme in civilization : "we are what we do, not what we say"; fact over ideality-- and his own pupil Alexander, iconic western conqueror, who will be the role model of the other logic-- that of power and of war-- and whose legacy will die bringing down with it the fall of the Hellenes and the rise of Rome (for the cycle to rebegin).
So History's lesson is that Man's destiny is forever swinging like a pendulum between "logic of knowledge" vs "logic of power". There is no getting away from this truth or untruth of civilization.
Plato's COMPROMISE solution was the Republic and it entailed open debate amongst the Aeropage (the elite) to find resolution.
Aristotle's contribution was to base that compromise not just on IDEALS (Plato's construct) but on factuality; aka what we do and thus the post factual analysis of our acts--feedback loop-- to guide us subsequently to achieve a pragmatic resolution of the problem.
Inherent in Aristotle's logic, as it develops over time, is the scientific method that it bequeathes to Man, based on doubt not on IDEALISTIC certitude (as will be the case of its rival metaphysical philosophy of the Creationist meme; aka the three Abrahamic religions).
The dark ages of western civilization will then get civilization boxed into the digression of creationistic "God wills it" or "Allah o Akbar" rivalry, false certitudes that will get us nowhere except to the recurrence of war for God and the spawning of the debilitating poison of the Inquistion, the ultimate crime of Man against Man.
The Renaissance will see the rebirth of Greek philosophy and a return to DOUBT, the true mindset of Man's conundrum on Earth. WE STAY MORTALS AND THE GAME OF POLITICS AND CIVILIZATION IS NEVER ABOUT CERTITUDE BUT ABOUT THE UNKNOWN AND HOW TO FACE IT.
Even the Popes of the Renaissance saw that as the Raphaellian fresco of Athen's school illustrates in the Vatican. We were back to celebrating logic (at par with obscurantism) in the House of divine Certitudes!
Well, Galileo nailed that debate for posterity, and the western world moved on to Enlightenment.
Today, the new God of certitude is the allmighty Market. We all bow to it and its invisible hand to iconise Man's libertarian quest. And its just as much a MIRAGE as the Papal Vatican.
So whatever people might say about Plato and his narcisscism, I find that he stays the best illustration of our search for fragile equilibrium, task facing each generation.
As the ONE single truth about civilization is that it stays ephemeral and for each generation it is an eternal re-beginning to BALANCE the logic of power with the logic of knowledge.
We stay Sisyphians...And the Republic stays our best framework to resolve this eternal conundrum between power meme and knowledge meme; not the Obscurantist Market and its invisible hand!
Our current neo-libertarian reality in this awesome regression of western civilization--new obscurantist age--, all enforced by our Catholic Kings of deregulation and "State is the problem not the solution" meme; aka Maggie and her City eurodollar farm, and Ronnie and his "Take down that Evil Empire Wall Mr Gorby", NSA/CIA spawing neo-con NWO dawning mantra, falsely proclaimed.
Our current obscurantist Merlins of this dystopian economic construct stay the school of Von Mises and Hayek and their monetarist son Milton Friedman. They INSPIRED this mess by blessing Glass Steagall revoke! Alan Greenspan's magic hand!
Its Neo-liberalism (bedfellow of neo-cons on the militarist front) that is the POWER meme today, and its State setting the tables right to protect the people which is the KNOWLEDGE meme, and not the contrary.
Even that Neo-con fellow traveller Sarko got it right in 2009 when he said " Le laissez faire c'est fini!"
Of course as the Merkozy mantra showed in EZ he DID NOTHING to stop "laissez faire" and the world went further down the Banksta controlled route, as sons of the Von Mises "no regulation is good liberation route" !
I rest my case.
+1 You'll be punished for that enlightenment, falak.
The fact that the Tylers trot out these "one nutted" posters to spout half baked philosophy, like Kim Kardashian selling her sex tape, is beyond me!
At least KK has a following, however ephemeral !
Wait a minute--KK has a sex tape?!!
Sorry, falak, but I think that's worth a look!
How easily we're diverted.
here is that info :
http://www.businessinsider.com/kim-kardashian-sex-tape-best-selling-2014-11
Yeah, I had to immediately search it online. Seems it's from her earlier--and hotter?--years, 2003. How could I have missed something sooooo important? Now it's the best selling sex tape of all time.
If women didn't police the engineered pussy shortage so well, what a difference we'd see in society. But, of course, then how would sociopathic female narcissists find psychopathic Kingly mates to keep them in Royal fashion and the ancient archetypal debacle rolling merrily along to Armageddon?
Plato, perhaps the world’s most (in)famous narcissistic sociopath
Right... Ok...
According to this, I'm a dead man.

A common, perhaps even natural response to all the current noise, though I'm convinced a more personal, self-defining approach, as in Camus' Myth of Sisyphus or Sartre's Nausea, is inexorably building, soon to replace the energy-sapping, tiresome, look-what-they're-doing-to-us whining.
Yeah. Nailed it right on the head but most of the cattle won't notice.
LTEP = LET THEM EAT PLATO?
I like Rand and Orwell. I don't care how obtuse LTER gets over it.
constitutional crisis..... after january impeach obama and get back to rule of LAW vs crony enforcement we now have...
Impeachment is what he wants. He wants to be a martyr to the cause. The only way he can save his legacy is by blaming everything including impeachment on .... wait for it .... RACISM!
On another note President Joe? Really?
"When plunder becomes a way of life for a group of
men in society, they creat for themselves, in the
course of time, a legal system which authorizes it,
and then a moral code which glorifies it"
This works for both stripes of our system.
This article misses the worst of Plato's perfect city-state. IMO, the idea of Philosopher-Kings, protected by the Guardians, enforcing the concept that the other classes of workers remain properly in their classes. Occassionally the "benevolent" P-kings would reach down into the workers caste and pull bright children up to their level.
In Plato's argument, this would make everyone happy, as they would be educated enough to do their job and not have stress worrying about improving their lives. Sounds very much like the Rockefeller quote on the ideals of the American "Education" system (just smart enough to work the factories and leave governance to the elites).
I can't decide if we're in Animal Farm, 1984, Stranger in a Strange Land, or on the road to Idiocracy. Part of me actually hopes for the Road Warrior, if for nothing else than the chance to smash some elite skulls.
My, how can anyone misunderstand Plato so badly? The "author" is confusing the philosopher's rule (i.e, people who, because they revere truth, justice, wisdom, dignity and don't give a hoot about money or position, have only the best interest of the population at heart) and Tyranny - that Plato elaborates on, and condemns, in another chapter of The Republic.
How can anyone be so crassly ignorant, so abysmally stupid, as not to be even capable of reading what's clearly stated black in white? And to mistake Obama and the neocons for philosophers, for heaven's sake?
It's incredible to see up to what point the lack of history of America generates an inability to fathom anything beyond the rule of the wealthiest/mightiest (the only rule it ever knew), and badly impairs its understanding of the fundamental texts of the world literature.
You're right, Lea.
The author has misconstrued his point by going to the Philosopher Kings component of Plato. However, there is a fundamental principle of Plato's philosophy that is responsible for society's current conditon which is indicated in my post above.
"However, there is a fundamental principle of Plato's philosophy that is responsible for society's current conditon which is indicated in my post above."
I've read your post above, OC Sure. You confuse two vastly different concepts, that of higher Principles (one can only grasp through thought) and that of non-proved, invented ideas (that's to say falsehoods, illusory concepts or ideological bents).
To understand easily the concept of the higher Principle, one can use the example of the table. "Table" is one word that covers all the possible shapes of tables. If that word - table - did not exist, we'd have to use a different word for every shape or type of table under the sun. The table, as a concept, cannot have any particular shape because we're not speaking about this or that table, but about a universal concept called "table". And you can only grasp it through thought because, once it become concrete, it will have a particular shape and won't be your universal table anymore.
Does this make the universal concept of the table non-existent or a fallacy? Of course not. Each and every table in the world derives from that concept.
And so go the Ages. You are agreeing with P and I am agreeing with A.
Jefferson may be often misquoted, but the quotes are almost always sympathetic to his beliefs. Here he's not misquoted...

Best source for Jefferson quotes is Monticello.org. Here is an example of an oft cited spurious quote about inflation/deflation:

It is embarassaing and shameful that such a comparison can be made to the philosopher kings of Plato's Republic. The one who needs a new reading of or more likely a first reading of The Republic is the author of this crap article.
The philosopher king is a lover of wisdom, truth, and virtue. This poorly concieved article is a bastardization of one of the great works of Western philosophy. Since this sham of an article needs some help, what Plato was actually referring to is a moral reasoning for the individual that complements and completes the morality of the society in which the individual exists, striving for harmonious interdependence, as people who fulfil their highest potential lead the society to its highest potential. But seeing as how we have fallen into complete intellectual decay these days, we instead will suggest Plato a simple fool and compare Plato's ideal in The Republic to our failed American Empire... Dispicable.
And must not that be a blameless study which he only can pursue who has the gift of a good memory, and is quick to learn--noble, gracious, the friend of truth, justice, courage, temperance, who are his kindred?
The god of jealousy himself, he said, could find no fault with such a study.
And to men like him, I said, when perfected by years and education, and to these only you will intrust the State.
"The philosopher king is a lover of wisdom, truth, and virtue."
ROFL. Translations and interpretations vary.
Right on.
Also, who are the 20 badass mf'ing cowboys that can run a herd of 30,000?
Once you become aware of the level of absolute control and propaganda you see it everywhere. Advertising, TV shows, games all created to slightly adjust perceptions over time to bring about the desired change.
Before Obama was elected I said just about every commercial will feature blacks in power positions or strong black nuclear family units. They would also speak perfect English without a hunt of Ebonics. The polar opposite of reality. That happened.
Starting last year you started seeing lots of commercials with women in power positions. In almost every case the white man is made to be a bumbling buffoon. The main offender is cell phone ads, specifically AT&T. But you have car insurance ads with the at fault white guy hitting the well spoken black man who is a buffoon for choosing a crappy insurance company. Who sells you Allstate insurance? A strong well spoken black man who happened to play the POTUS on a TV show.
Women no longer care for children on TV. That is the white man's job. When the strong woman is selling you your cell phone, the man is wearing the baby harness and the mom is making the decisions.
McDonald's problem is their ads don't show white people eating their food anymore. The subtle probably unintentional conditioning is that white people don't eat at McDonald's. In an attempt to be overly PC they killed their business by turning off their primary customer.
People think you are crazy when you bring things like that up in conversation. Saying it would be impossible to control advertising. What they don't realize is three agencies produce nearly every ad for the top of the Fortune 500, which make up 90% of major TV advertising. But if you can point it out when the ads are playing in front of their face they have a "Oh my God" moment.
All psychological conditioning to break down the perception that a strong white man is necessary. Specifically a strong Christian man. Which is the true enemy of the Tribe. The original strong male Christian threw the money changers out of the temple forever making his followers enemies.
"Declining GDP is ignored while adjusted indicators signalling GDP is healthy are paraded all over the street because the philosopher kings make it so. A Malaysian airliner is shot out of the sky not by things yet unknown but because the philosopher kings make it so."...
And three buildings that lost all of their potential energy on the very same day without MIT trained professional engineers from the National Institute of Standards and Technology able to tell us "why" they couldn't call all three of them near free fall accellerated collapses when they delivered the report 3 years late in 2004 for Tower(s) 1 and 2 and then in 2007 for Building 7 which were the only reason for starting Regiional war(s) of choice in the Middle East?!!!
Fixed it!
Me thinks PLATO were he alive today would have had much to write about on this topic!
"And three buildings that lost all of their potential energy on the very same day without MIT trained professional engineers from the National Institute of Standards and Technology able to tell us "why" they couldn't call all three of them near free fall accellerated collapses when they delivered the report 3 years late in 2004 for Tower(s) 1 and 2 and then in 2007 for Building 7 which were the only reason for starting Regiional war(s) of choice in the Middle East?!!!"
All three buildings had out of control fires. That is why they collapsed.
The floor trusses were held to the exterior columns by what were flimsy flanges that could not hold up against tons of falling debris, resulting in a rapid collapse, the same as when a standing domino cannot hold up against a domino falling into it.
The invasion of Afghanistan was not due to the collapse of the buildings. When the second plane hit, Card told Bush, we are at war. The war started before the buildings collapsed.
I'm melting!!!....
You are certainly right about one thing...
"The invasion of Afghanistan was not due to the collapse of the buildings. When the second plane hit, Card told Bush, we are at war. The war started before the buildings collapsed."...
Binnie IN his own "words"!
those "out of control fires" looked like the last time i saw someone try to get a campfire going with wet wood.
now this is an out of control fire!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j4MjsVnasLA
but no molten steel, no free fall global symmetrical collapse! maybe you are right, the engineers chose some "flimsy flanges" for the tallest buildings in the world...
T-N
Much obliged for the "exclamation point"!
It's just too bad someone like John Gross or some "flunky" working for him at NIST couldn't have stored that one away for the day he would commit scientific fraud first in 2004 and then when the "oops -we completely forgot about that 3rd building in the official report" moment arrived in 2007!
We still have a CBO even though they were never correct and now we know that the writers of law intentionally deceive the CBO so their numbers can't possibly be correct. Yet the MSM will continue to cite the CBO numbers to the sheeple as proof that the legislation is economically beneficial.
I think that this sculpture displays the current power structure to some degree
http://unsteinn.blogcentral.is/File.ashx?id=85ccbc52-9441-4577-abe8-c4c5...
The wall furthest from the person would be the ruling elites, the super rich.
The wall in the middle would be the central banks, inner circles of politics, main stream media etc.
The wall closest to the person in the sculpture, who is the only one the person can see is for the most part a illusion projected by the walls behind, mostly to make sure you don't see what goes on in the real world. If you did then you would want to stop supporting them.
This human being looking at the wall is divided in the middle, left and right, black and white, man and woman, this is something that can be exploited to make it easier to control.
The base those ruling elites build their walls on are philosophy and ideas borrowed from the past, i would hardly call those people philosopher kings. The people who are in the inner circles are usually cultivated, brainwashed to view the world from a very small angle, it seems to me that when things go differently than they expected they are lost and clueless as to what to do.
I suppose that if someone would want to create a unipolar world, some kind of a empire that was so powerful that it could bend all other nations to its will, then i suspect getting that power would be extremely difficult, and keeping that power once you have it would 10 times more difficult. Then you would really have to have a brilliant plan, or use brutal force and all the evil you could possibly find.
I suspect the latter option would be more likely if some elite groups start dreaming of a new world order of some sort. If we would allow something like that to happen, then i suspect the world will be a really dark place.
The powers that be vs the rest of us.

Orwell was wrong about a lot of things: he made the Jews the oppressed, not the oppressors. Emmanuel Goldstein is the hero of 1984, the big proponent of Freedom. Bardèche’s vision of the future is much truer than Orwell’s, and his book was written a year earlier than Orwell’s.
Maurice Bardèche’s Nuremberg or the Promised Land is a revisionist classic. . . . That anyone in 1948 could have foreseen so accurately our modern world is to me astounding. Bardèche recognized that the judicial travesty at Nuremberg was not simply an act of vengeance by victors against the vanquished and that what was on trial there was not just the particular German defendants, nor the German nation, nor even National Socialism, but rather nationalism itself: the idea that a people own the land that they have long lived in and have the right to live in it as they wish and to exclude others from living in it if they so wish. It is nationalism in any form which was condemned at Nuremberg.
With amazing prescience Bardèche foresaw in its condemnation the coming of an international system which is first and foremost economic, not political or governmental. Its purpose is to protect an international economic élite, not ordinary persons, or peoples, or nations. It offers the latter lots of rights but no guarantees that these rights will be respected. Its laws are unclear (unlike those of a prince) and broadly unenforceable, but the system does not attempt to enforce them broadly but only selectively. For selected victims punishments are severe. Victims are selected not so much because they have broken laws but because they have offended the “universal conscience,” the conscience created and fostered in us all by the media (Bardèche’s “radio”). Bardèche clearly foresaw the system which we today call “globalism,” although he nowhere uses that term. He also foresaw at least implicitly many other aspects of our world: Third World immigration, the irrational glorification of democracy, loss of sovereignty, humanitarian wars and interference, hate crimes, affirmative action, racial miscegenation and replacement, etc.: “At the bottom of the sanctuary there sits a Negro god. You have all the rights, except to speak evil of the god.” “And, from one end of the world to the other, in perfectly similar cities . . . there will live under similar laws a bastard population, a race of indefinable and gloomy slaves, without genius, without instinct, without voice. . . But this will be the Promised Land.”
In 1949, one year after the publication of Nuremberg or the Promised Land, another prophetic book was published, George Orwell’s novel Nineteen Eighty-Four. In it Orwell describes a scary future in which there is a single party dictatorship, living conditions are drab, food is scarce, people’s thoughts are openly controlled by Big Brother, their words and actions are monitored through “telescreens” which they cannot turn off, they are given no choice over what they view on these screens, there is only one channel on the “telescreens” and one film (always a war film) in the theatres, in one such film refugees trying to escape are shot to the delight of the audience, some of these refugees are Jewish, “the Enemy of the People” is a Jew, Emmanuel Goldstein, who is condemned for “advocating freedom of speech, freedom of the Press, freedom of assembly, freedom of thought,” people are openly taught to hate him and his followers during “Two Minutes Hate” and “Hate Week,” sex is discouraged through a “Junior Anti-Sex League,” the Inner Party is called the “Inner Party,” thoughtcrime is called “thoughtcrime,” Thought Police are called “Thought Police,” the media propagate obvious, self-contradictory lies such as: “War Is Peace,” “Freedom Is Slavery,” “Ignorance Is Strength,” people are told that democracy is “impossible” (although the Party is said to be its “guardian”), capitalism is viewed as a barbarity that has “vanished.”
The world described in 1984 little resembles that in the Occident today. We live in multi-party democracies. Our mainstream media tell us not only that democracy is possible and a very good thing, but that its triumph everywhere is virtually inevitable, an inevitability which we should make every effort to encourage. Living conditions are generally good, food is abundant. Capitalism is alive and well and is promoted as an economic panacea. Our politicians advocate the same things as does Emmanuel Goldstein. Our media propagate obvious lies such as: “Diversity is our strength,” but they at least avoid flagrant self-contradictions (some kinds of diversity may indeed be a source of strength, although certainly not the radical ethnic diversity that our media promote). Refugees do not flee our societies, but rather risk their lives trying to get into them. We are not taught to hate, but to tolerate. Sex is not generally discouraged, even among the young. With our multi-channel televisions and the internet we are free to see, hear, read, and discuss almost anything, if not everywhere. Freedom reigns. Yet to some that freedom seems, if not illusory, useless. It is useless because people’s thoughts and actions are monitored and controlled not by anything outside themselves but by their own warped consciences, consciences deliberately warped by our mainstream media, consciences closely resembling Bardèche’s “universal conscience.”
Orwell’s and Bardèche’s books have had quite different careers in the Occident. Orwell’s, although formerly banned in the Soviet Union, has been widely read and praised; Bardèche’s is still banned in France and is generally unknown elsewhere. 1984 has served to warn us against the dangers of Communism, and for that deserves acclaim. But one cannot help but wonder if its general acclaim today is not also an index to its irrelevance. We have escaped the dreadful future envisioned by Orwell in 1984. We have not escaped the dreadful future envisioned by Bardèche in 1948.
Bardèche says that his “only ambition, in writing this book, was to be able to read it again without shame in fifteen years.” My ambition, in translating it, was much more grandiose: I hope to hear it read some day without shame on TV by a politician. Bardèche wrote this book for the sake of the German “reprobates,” whom “the radios of all the people of the world, and the presses of all the people of the world, and millions of voices from all the horizons of the world” characterize as “monsters.” I have translated it also for the sake of “reprobates,” those nationalists throughout the Occident whom all our radios and presses and millions of voices likewise characterize as little better than “monsters.”

"But if we fight for absolute truth we will win absolute freedom."
Be very very careful as more than likely you will be fighting a battle few others are willing to fight and those you think you are fighting for, will end up fighting along side your enemy.
I have seen this first hand and I tell you there is no reason to publicly make your feelings, thoughts or plans public. Insighting or joining a mob will only put a target square on your back. If you wish to fight, fight alone. An army of 1 million each fighting alone and dispersed throughout a large land mass amongst millions of people will be far more insideous and indefensible than massing together as cattle do before their slaughter.
If I hear gunshots from my neighbor's house and see .gov outside, you best believe I'll be locating and occupying the optimal firing position. I know 2 things: (1) my neighbor is a law-abider; and (2) .gov thuggish tyranny has already led to too many innocent deaths in their homes. The fucking justice system has ruled recently that a citizen should obey and submit to .gov gunpoint tyranny, b/c they always have access to the court system to address their grievances. Bullshit on that. Lots of citizens lose their lives to 'accidental' thugcop gunfire before they ever see a jail, let alone a courtroom. No, the system is fucked, and I wont watch my neighbor go out like that. I hope my neighbor would do the same for me.
"I'll be locating and occupying the optimal firing position."
And you will die, and your cause will die with you.
That is your opinion, Fedcoat. You won't mindfuck me into anything other than righteous angry action. That's the way I work, you see. Tell me I can't do something, and watch it get done.
Government need - Do you reveal your hand while playing poker? Do you consider the element of surpise and why volumes of using it for tactics are written? Be cool as ice and use wisdom.
"Or for minor offences such as providing the truth behind declining same store sales your career is taken from you like Bill Simon, ex Walmart CEO who was fired for stating that Americans are buying less because they have less income than before."
If that was why he was fired, that was a rather silly reason. He stated something everyone already knows.
You can't be a CEO for Oligarchy and say that your clients are too poor to justify your lack of ROI.
The bosses expect you to alter your offer to meet the new demand; aka get more illegals to improve your marigns selling cheaper things made in Bengladesh rather than in upscaling China.
Stay ahead of the curve, CEO ! "Just do what it takes to keep my profits up!".
Thats why Obama's immigration laws should ravish the Oligarchs/ "More cheap labour that we can declare in our books as they are legals, but we do not have to cover basic pay with "benefits"."
We don't get caught by the IRS or the customs for using illegals. We are kosher!
Just as long as they don't get organised into unions ! Ah but that is not included in the Obama deal !
Tyranny begets tyranny, which inevitably leads to bloodshed. The US can always veer like a drunk away from its current path, but the current path leads to war, at least versus 'externals', but also likely 'internals', and the sequence of these wars is difficult to ascertain. My reality has led me to leave a big city, stock up the larder, and build a self-defense inventory. I'm increasingly uncomfortable with the .gov tyranny at home and abroad. If my decisioning is being replicated by the 100,000 across Murrica (firearm purchase data is readily available, as is concealed carry permitting), then that red flashing light should be blinking in the Bat Cave. There is a point at which the preparation for an expected outcome steers one closer to that outcome in a self-reinforcing cycle. In my view, we're well down that road. Every IRS-targeting, every death from a Fast'n'Furious firearm, every executive order on immigration that bypasses Congress, every trillion of Fed fiat conjuring without Congressional approval takes us further away from the representative democracy our forefathers crafted. Even in a well functioning government, there will be law-breakers. Justice for these criminals is what shows Murricans the rule of law remains sound. When the justice system fails to bring the criminals to justice, then the government itself is the corruption. Fixing a corrupt government rarely happens from the inside. It always involves blood.
The article assumes that knowledge is controlled by the Philosopher
Kings when in fact it is not. Moreover, the Philosopher Kings would like you to think that they are in controll, but they are not. Clearly, the American hegemony that all have witnessed over the years is in sharp decline and will never return as a guiding force in contemporary society. Americans do not like that prospect and will say and do anything to hang on to their delusions of grandure and omnipotence at whatever cost. Forget Plato, Orwell, and Alisa Zinov'yevna Rosenbaum. If people actually followed Plato's dictates there would be no persons making more than three time another person in contemporary society. Wealth transfer would not have manifested through such limited philosophy as 'Objectivism' obviously is, and Orwell would have never needed to write about the objectivist class or ruling elite corrupting leadership and power as it has done.
“Plato was correct in understanding that freedom is found in knowledge.”—Thad Beversdorf
Globalism doesn't mean global free speech. The philosopher kings cannot allow thinking outside the Establishment box. Thus, Lew Rockwell’s knowledge can be found on RT-TV (Russia Today-TV) but not on UST-TV (US Today-TV). And that is why the British mainstream media is scared to death over RT UK’s recent TV launch in the United Kingdom. It is afraid of any exposure to the Empire's crimes, of the reality “that freedom is found in knowledge.” As for the truth…
“Sanctions Are Immoral: They target civilians, seeking to sicken, starve, and impoverish them. Lew Rockwell is interviewed by RT.”
“Sanctions…hitting a sick guy over the head… As economic troubles get worse, maybe the Europeans will stand up and refuse to engage in these economy-destroying, prosperity-destroying sanctions…”

RT says: It’s not only politicians, business leaders in Europe consider sanctions to be harmful for the EU. RT speaks to Lew Rockwell, chairman of the Ludwig von Mises Institute in Auburn, Alabama (and founder of LRC: lewrockwell.com ) who thinks that ordinary people are hit the hardest.

“Plato was correct in understanding that freedom is found in knowledge.”—Thad Beversdorf
well, lets hope few decades from now few people will remember the name Beversdorf as well ... we can hope ... hopie and changie
Be suitably heartened, or rightly justly terrified if fully cognizant of ones own guilty self-serving and inequitable puppet philosopher king actions and their inevitable consequences, to know that some which may the few and many are not helpless or petrified in inaction and would be extremely active in sowing the seeds and feeds and needs of remedial action and the future supply of quite revolutionary securely compartmentalised proprietary intellectual property ..... which wont be bothered by, or be botherng itself with any fluffing entanglement and sycophantic lip service to mangled mainstream sub-prime server service channels with compromised covert and clandestine communications chunnels..... with the knowledge that new knowledge is appearing everywhere all of the time and for everyone who is able and/or enabled to make great and free use of to make for themselves and their friends, obscene fortunes and/or hold a Wild Wicked Wacky DODgy MODified systems and muppet manipulators to perpetual perpetuating Danegeld ransom ? ....... http://thedailybell.com/news-analysis/35845/Internet-Reformation-Sparks-UK-Parliamentary-Money-Debate/#comment-1706831844
And yes, one surely does expect such a service to be one which is the pride of a nation and nations, doesn't one, even if it is just the private pirate sector doing its Renegade Rogue IT Command and Control thing and warning the markets of strange goings on to monetize and factor in to risk assessments and future hedged options/derivative cyber paths of real travel and/or virtual perspective. Is it to be an Eastern confection or Western delight though?
THANK YOU
one of the coolest articles i have read here ... and it is correct !
FIGHT THE POWER !
Good one Skippy.
But really, equating the financial shenannigans of the Treasury and Fed with different philsophical systems is a bit of a stretch. Is the guy on the corner playing three-card Monty really a philosopher king? I don't think so.
