American Spring Night 2: Coast-To-Coast Protests, "We Have Every Right To Destroy A System That Seeks To Destroy Us"

Tyler Durden's picture

With countrywide protests having occured across the nation all day, and more planned into the dark of the night, many cities are gearing up for another evening of fear and emotion. For now, the main trouble spots appear to be NYC (Lincoln Tunnel blocked, pepper spray used, multiple protests arounds Union and Times Square), Minneapolis (car ploughs down protesters, violence escalating), Cincinnati (main highway shut down) and Ferguson (2,200 National Guard deployed, multiple protests, multiple arrests). St. Louis just postponed the Thanksgiving Day parade, Los Angeles marches blocked Figueroa, Chicago protest blocked Michigan Avenue, and Oakland (I-580 and I-980 blocked)

President Obama's earlier comments translated appeared to sound like, 'I condemn the violence but totally understand it' and Al Sharpton's earlier analogies to a fight did not help. It appears the American Spring is spreading and while color may have been the catalyst, it appears youth is the dividing point.

This seemed to sum things up...

Yes the police do murder / execute citizens all the time and they receive no punishment 99% of the time. They beat and kill homeless and those with mental health issues daily. Swat teams raid innocent or the wrong house daily killing citizen's hurting their children with flash bang grenades and shooting their pets. Great times here in America. I have no doubt should the history books of the future reflect the truth that the US will be compared to Nazi Germany in many ways and in many ways we are worse.

But in this case the shooting was justified.  I'm no fan of the sadist goons btw.

As usual.

I don't like either side in this debate.

I can't stand police officers and their abuse of "authority" along with crooked courts where the cop's word is gospel.

I also can't stand thugs who commit strong-armed robberies.

This is what David Icke would call an opposame.

It's a false choice duality or dichotomy where no matter what side you support, you aren't gaining anything useful out of it, and both sides are wanting to further their own enslavement.

What in the hell does a drugged up teen trying to kill a police officer and ending up shot in self defense have to do with the people protesting imperialism?

jbvtme's picture

i have read enough stories of police brutality in this country, where cops skate because  the crimial justice industry looks the other way. who knows the merits of this case but the handful who were witnesses?  however, if Ferguson is where the shot is fired, so be it.  let it be heard round the world!

Even if this is a false start to the American spring, which hopefully is not the case, the real spring is on the way becausse real American men were built of courage and sinews. They will return to their nature and overthrow these spineless, mealy mouthed squids and serpents and become a respectable people and respected nation once again. Real men have every right to destroy and overthrow a system which seeks to enslave them. No retreat, no surrender from the Man in Black himself - the true American spirit of independent will. Run for your lives zio-scum, God is coming to chew gum and cut some folks down, but He's all out of gum.

LTER, I admire your efforts to represent an enlightened perspective on matters, both on this issue and over time on a wide variety of them.  Your clarity of vision and persistence have been heroic.  But I'm afraid you've gotta face the impossibility of injecting the least bit of positive influence into this raging sewer of humanity's ugliest passions.  Look at the way ZH set up the story as "driver about to get . . . wait for it . . . lynched."  You understand the reference, just as the author does.  Sadly, this comment section is representative of current ZH management itself.  Sick enough to just stay the fuck away, far as I'm concerned.  You should consider the same, imo.  Lost cause, incurable sickness, a celebratory mob of virulent racists engaged in an orgy of self-congratulation for their hateful ignorance.

Lawlessness and misplaced anger will engender anger.  No sympathy here for willful, stupid lawlessness. Pretty sure those small business owners had nothing to do with any police brutality. Same with the owners of those burned vehicles.

Try to assault me and I've got some steel-core rounds headed your way @ 2800 feet per second.

As Hitlery Klinton would say "We are losing the Infowar"

This site used to be diehard libertarian.  There used to be debates on free energy technologies, gold vs. bitcoin, banking reform, deflation vs. hyperinflation arguments, how to update government to the 21st Century, etc.  Those days on ZH are over.

Nowadays its click bait garbage and a bunch of regressive racist vitriol from a bunch of neocon righty-tighties that watch too much Faux News and listen to too much right-wing talk radio where the topic at hand is hating and judging your fellow man while holding the contradictory views of Christianity at the same time like Orwellian doublethink.  Just total outright lunacy.

I know these righty-tighty types in my personal life.  They are miserable people to be around and they are always in a bad mood, angry, and bitching about something.  They whine about government fiscal responsibility, yet their own household budget is massive debt and deficits.  They work jobs they hate to buy shit they don't need, and think it is somehow virtuous.  As much as I don't like Obama, Bush, Clinton, Reagan, Nixon, [insert politician's name here] I also don't blame Obama for all of my personal problems.

The irony is, the blogger who runs this site goes by the pseudonym Tyler Durden, and the posters call this place "fight club".  I can tell many posters on here never have read the BOOK Fight Club, or watched the film, or both.  It is one of the biggest critiques of righty-tighty Americans I have ever read.  It flies in the face of all of their perceived values.  Although I disagreed with Tyler's (in the novel) solutions (because they were more authoritarian than the society he was up against, and I'm sure Palahniuk illustrated that on purpose), I loved Tyler/Narrator's critiques of society.

I try to upvote you all the time, it never lets me. Regardless, I have seen the demise of this site you speak of and it saddens me as well. Though I have just recently joined, I have been reading for years. This site used to be the go to for real information, now more and more all I see is hype and racism. More Us vs. Them propaganda and promotion which is the exact thing that is holding us back. Anyway, thanks for being a voice of reason. Posters like you are outnumbered on this site, but it was not always the case. I said the same to myself yesterday that most of these posters now have no idea what fight club is about or they would never spew some of the stuff they post. For me, I see the threads that connect Ferguson, Occupy, Tea Party, and the Bundy Standoff. If we could only put our differences aside, open our eyes and see we are all fighting the same thing, and work together to defeat it. But it seems that may be our greatest battle, the demon inside rather than the one we face.

LibertarianMenace's picture

Yet the ugliest human passion that has proven time and again to be the most damaging to civilization is that of the good intention inspired by arrogance. I take it that if an attempt were made to redeem this rabble, then you'd have no shortage of recommendations. Now since it is advice that is being proffered, here’s a bit for you: look in the mirror. Ironically it’s your fellow travelers, those that always see wrong and try to right it, those that never tire of telling the rest of us how we must live, that are agitating for violence, not the celebratory mob that you’re sniffing at in this comment section.

The reaction you see here is one that has been for decades provoked by an opposite ilk with an attitude of think and do as I say…or else. In other words, you own it. The sickness here, if any, is yours. The trouble with the clairvoyant and magnanimous like you and Jonathan Gruber is that you’re both often neither. I for one am perfectly capable of sifting through the trash heap and remarkably without any assistance from the enlightened like you. And it’s not just LTER, but most people, that if left alone to go about their lives, can take care of themselves. You’d be surprised, but only because doubt about your sophistication with respect to the riff-raff never enters your thinking. As the door hits you in the ass on the way out, I recommend you think about that and stop worrying about other lost causes, those that you can truly do nothing about.

So why are we invading Russia then?

Lore's picture

Because of Putin's "aggression."  It must be so, because Canada's Prime Minister believes it.  /SARC

Seriously, what good do these protests do, except to justify all the militarism pushed out to municipal police departments?  Never mind that the morons are smashing their own neighborhood grocery stores, gas stations and other retail outlets, thus contributing to the urban blight: more importantly, the building-burners and window-smashers are playing right into totalitarian hands:  "We had to lock the city down to keep it safe."

Nothing constructive is being accomplished by this.  A subgroup of protestors will loot and have one helluva party, and do a fine job of justifying the soon-to-be-marketed label of "domestic terrorist."  If the hairbags really stopped and thought about it, public protest is LESS THAN MEANINGLESS.  You smash stuff belonging to others, justify more goonery, contribute to police statistics and mass media scaremongering, and that's about it. "Whose streets? Our streets?"  Enjoy your streets, sheeple, because soon that's all that will be left.

One important takeaway from all of this is to underline power of the media as a HYPE MACHINE.  This thing has been pushed HARD for weeks.  Couch surfers see interesting stuff going on and "Hey, I wanna be on TV too!"  It's no different than Black Friday.  SUCKERS.

If everyone would simply go home, go about their business, and not get caught in the frenzy, the media would be foiled.  There would be no smashed buildings, no fires, no tax bills, calls for greater police presence, etc., etc.  In its way, it is very similar to the tactics being employed in East Ukraine, but whereas Putin refuses to bite, American sheeple get sucked in by the spectacle.

Old Man River's picture

I read the Cloward-Piven piece once. Ferguson seems to be following that narrative. It is difficult to wrap your head around such things but it is a means to and end in their world.

The hype machine is simply a struggle for relevance and ratings.

At the end of the day, Darren Wilson will be blamed for the destruction of a small nail salon, a few restaurants, AutoZone, O'Reilly, Lil' Caesars, etc. I bet most of that won't return. Things will get worse there. Sad display of humanity.

Paveway IV's picture

I watched the VICE live feed yesterday and noticed the first fire truck to show up to one of the first fires was chased away by cops at the sound of pretty damn distant gunfire timed almost to the second they stepped off the ladder truck. Almost like it was staged.

The cops all reacted almost immediately and without even speaking with each other, approaching all the firemen as if on cue and almost manhandling them to get back on their trucks and leave. The firemen couldn't even finish picking up their hoses from the hydrants they stopped to connect first. They were genuinely pissed at the cops and said they didn't care about the gunfire - they obviously didn't think they were in any danger and wanted to do their job. The cops had that same prick attitude of "Obey me or I'll throw your ass in jail"

None of the bystanders or reporters seemed the least bit worried as the gunfire seemed to be from somewhere else blocks away and had nothing to do with the fire trucks. In fact, they all hung around in disbelief after the fire trucks left and watched the building burn. Something similar happened at one of the other three fire sites. Cops chased the firemen away 'for their own protection' apparently in reaction to the distant gunfire.

The first four fires were at the extreme ends of the two main streets and all started almost the same time, but well after the protesters had pretty much left those areas. They were all a few blocks in from the pre-positioned police lines. Close enough to draw reporters, but far enough away that no cops had to move.

About two hours later, a bunch of other fires were started (again, almost simultaneously) along those same two streets between those 'boundary' fires - where firemen were prohibited from responding. Reporters walked freely up and down those streets to report on the fires, chatting wtih random protesters and apparently not afraid of the occasional distant gunshots (which were sounding more and more like fireworks).

From reading the ZH comments the last couple of days, I would say the operation was a complete success. I would like to think the Stazi had their own Hasbara frantically stuffing the comments section here, but it looks like plenty of what seem to be regulars showed up to fan the flames here as well.

Well played, Stazi. [golf clap]  Well played.
