Misery Mounts As Airline Delays & Cancellations Surge On East Coast

Tyler Durden's picture

As of 1220ET, 505 flights have been cancelled in the US today (and 1,731 additional flights are subject to delays) as airlines both pre-emptively and reactively prepare for the worst case nor'easter due to hit the East Coast any hour now. Chicago O'Hare is subject to the most flight delays, followed by New York's JFK. Newark, Laguardia, and Philadeplhia airports are seeing the most cancellations currently.

The worst hit airports are...

And it looks set to get worse, much worse... (as accuweather reports)

A storm with rain, heavy snow, low clouds and poor visibility will cause major disruptions and delays for Thanksgiving travel on the East Coast and in the Appalachians into Wednesday night.

Enough rain, low clouds and fog will occur to lead to airline and highway delays ahead of the snow.

In anticipation of delays or cancellations, several airlines, including US Airways, American and Delta, have announced they will waive change fees for passengers scheduled to fly into airports in the line of the storm.

According to AccuWeather Chief Meteorologist Elliot Abrams, "In most cases, the worst time to travel in the mid-Atlantic and New England due to the storm will be on Wednesday and Wednesday night."

Rain will initially spread northward along the Interstate-95 with snow and rain to start farther west in the I-81 corridor. However, a change to snow will take place from west to east from northern Virginia to New England.

The storm will bring mostly snow to the I-81 swath in Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania, I-84 in southeastern New York state, as well as much of interior New England, where a general 6-12 inches of snow are forecast.

"The storm should rapidly strengthen off the coast of New England on Wednesday night, leading to strong and gusty winds, especially near the coast," stated AccuWeather.com Meteorologist Ben Noll as he discussed the impacts in this storm scenario.

Problems due to blowing and drifting snow will be the greatest in northern and western New England. Farther south, winds will not be strong enough and the snow will be too wet for substantial blowing and drifting.

the east coast sucks.  I was born and lived there for a most of my youth.

just look at the stats for ferguson riots: most of them were (are) east of the mississippi. when this economy goes full-tilt toilet bound, that's the last place you'd want to be, that, and of course the west coast.

This is a good observation and was the only good question I heard asked about this far from surprising....well, Uprising for lack of a better word....namely "the number of outsiders" who were involved in this.

I highly doubt it was "just a bunch of folks from the East." Certainly this was a well chosen "target location" however. Always remeber that scene in the movie A Few Good Men where Tom Cruise "asks himself" why he would get a case when he is a lawyer with zero court room experience.

Obviously the answer to him was just as obvious....

Chicago is THE WORST [next to NYC] places to fly thru. I used to fly thru there once amonth on business and 60% of the time [yes, i counted] the flights were del;ayed due to -- snow, ice, wind, broken something, pilot woke up late, etc. Luckily they had great restaurants there and there was no long line TSA bullshit at the time so you could go out, eat and get back for the revised flight pretty quick.

Stay the fuck home.  FaceTime your loved ones on your iPhone, iPad, iPod, etc.  Go visit them after the Holidays to show them that you want to see them, not that you're obligated to.  Don't participate in the system.  Don't buy Christmas presents this year. Don't send Hallmark cards.  Send your loved ones a hand-written letter telling them how important they are to you and how much you love them. Donate money to a children's charity in somebody's name and let them know you did it.

The Matrix sucks.  Unplug from it.

I do most of my xmas shopping at garage sales where you can find something worth $100.00 for a buck.  All kinds of things that were made back when manufacturing was solid.  Homework may be required.

PS no freakin sales tax for the state crooks.

And if you know how to use buffing compounds you can compound the return on your garage sale investment.

But one  has to make the investment in knowledge and experience first, which is why if you can pass on the wisdom that comes from knowledge and experience- it is one of the most valuable gifts that can be given.

The weather hysteria is really astounding, just getting worse with each passing year.

The nightly news, every night, has some dramatic "weather!" headline, with a hot weather babe to breathlessly tell us about heat in Summer, wind and leaves in the Fall, cold and snow in the Winter, and wind and late frosts in the Spring.

Imagine that, weather on a planet that rotates and has a tilting axis and orbits a sun in the vacuum of space!

This East Coast storm is going to play holy hell with everyone traveling. " An odd northward hot air surge ahead of the next blow. One that will be fueled by a similar, out of the ordinary, Arctic heat-up that is predicted to fling a freakish Thanksgiving snowstorm at the US East Coast on Wednesday."

Our cold and snow is thanks to warm Pacific air flooding north over the actic and pushing the cold air pocket south over the Eastern USA. Like last year. Record heat at the pole, means record cold and snow down here! Enjoy it folks! Looks like last year all over again. FUCK!

What I like about American Main Stream media is the fact that they have totally ceased to report real news to America. When I was a kid, the radio and TV would all be giving the news on this storm, breaking reports, weather men talking about it every hour. Real up to date forecasts. Now days. FUCK ALL! Jabbering about coloresd folks and cops and US genreals issuing threats and demands at Russia and Donbass. All kinds of commercials about not being able to get a hardon, being blind and having sleep difficulties, needing to sue over vaginal mesh or asbestos, or adult diapers. Jesus what a fucking joke!

Yet millions of travelers need some real information and can't get it. It really is the internet age, fuck TV all to hell, it is useless shit. My computer and a high speed connection does a very important job, it removes the Main Stream Media as gate keeper of what I can watch, hear or learn. No wonder government is hell bent on shutting down and taking control of what internet we have now. The Washington DC crowd must really, really fucking hate the internet!
