Black Friday And The 'Ferguson' Effect
Of the 10 days on which the FBI has conducted the most background checks since December 1998, two are the last two Black Fridays.
As WaPo reports, it's not just Best Buy and JCPenney that sees throngs of Americans herding hungirly in anticipation of a 'deal', many hope for a discounted firearm at stores like Cabela's - and guns make popular gifts. However, the flood of demand on Black Friday is actually a problem for the oh-so-efficient government...
In 2013, 186,000 people were allowed to buy weapons without a
background check at all, according to the AP, after the FBI was unable
to process their applications within the legal window of three days. This year demand is even higher...

There are no jobs here how can they sell so many guns in Ohio? Gangsters getting ready?
Where in Ohio do you live? No jobs in southern Ohio maybe. But elsewhere it's looking very good.
South West Ohio.
Making laws that can't be enforced are not laws, they're wishful thinking by obtuse statists. Not my problem. Buy buy buy!
No kidding. Not to mention, background check? fuck that shit... walk in to the gun shop and hand the clerk a copy of the Constitution
havent you heard, the consitution is just a piece of paper. It grants you the right to own guns just like it grants you the right to be secure in your person, papers and home against unreasonable seaches an seizures, the right to a fair trial by your peers, the right to not be deprived of your property, liberty, or life without due process, and the rights of states to govern as they see fit. sorry to be the one to break it to you, but we're well past the time these people gave a shit what the constitution said
I'm assuming your using sarcasm.
The constitution does not grant a person anything. It binds the government in what it can’t do. Inalienable rights means that those rights are yours. That a person has those rights by virtue of being born, as such they cannot be taken away, (only suppressed by force or voluntarily relinquished until such time as they are taken back. This can be done simply by exercising them).
I've legally bought firearms in the US from 'da police with just a handshake and some Bejamins.
I was also at a Swiss gun store earlier today (Saturday being reserved for CHristmas CHarm in Grindelwald and Guns, and Sunday being reserved for GOd and GOld) - here they do the police check before-hand and then the purchase is cash and carry (and I have to bite my tongue at my wife's taste in firearms in either country).
But the AP is wrong. The number is not 186,000. Included in that 186,000 are many citizens of the various States who have been issued concealed carry permits, and hence- they have already undergone a criminal background check.
The simple solution (which also addresses the misnamed and fictitious gun-show loophole) is to make the entire process cash and carry if one has a valid and current permit, and incent the States to pass shall issue concealed carry permit laws (for a reasonable fee) and do all the investigations beforehand, and then just sit on the non-permit holders applications for the legal three-day period to incent the Citizens to get CCP/CHPs.
With simple State maintained websites where vendors (both commercial and private) could easily and freely validate that a permit is valid and has not been revoked - a far greater percentage of gun buyers would actually be screened.
And they wouldn't actually have to pass any new laws in most States in order to do this.
Redneck, I like your solution to the "gun show loophole." But, you know that the "gun show loophole" is only a red herring. What the gun control statists really want is all firearms transfers to be recorded so it will be easier to confiscate them in the future.
Tuesday, I purchased an evil handgun at my favorite gun store. Since I had a CHL, I only had to fill out the 4473 paperwork. No FBI background check - the clerk was very pleased that he didn't have to make the call. That means my purchase does not show up in the FBI background check statistics.
Forward (over the cliff)!
The federal government does not, and should not, have any authority to regulate intra-state commerce between private parties involving second hand goods. Self-identified liberals (who often seem more like closeted nazi cocksuckers who really do need to just be honest and come out of the closet) love to talk about "common sense" gun control, but they routinely reject all common sense since that is one of those "code words" they accuse others of using (and because they cannot come to terms with their own closeted nazi/statist desires).
I wouldn't sell a gun to a person with an obvious chip on their shoulder or their pants hanging around their knees, but unless I am willing to go through all the headaches and paperwork of an interstate transfer, or accept a lower price for one of my fine firearms by introducing an unnecessary middleman to the transaction, there is no way for me to verify that even my next door neighbor is lawfully entitled to purchase a firearm.
Responsible private individuals should have more options available when they choose (or need) to sell their firearms.
But to me guns are like potato chips, if I am in a store browsing new merchandise, I can't buy just one (and that doesn't show up in the statistics either). I think to only to obtain remotely accurate aggregate US gun acquisition statistics would be to combine annual production from the large manufactures with net imports and subtract destructions.
Doesn't matter as long as legislators can claim they fixed a problem they helped to invent. "Yeah, see, I'm tough on crime. Please consider donating to my election campaign."
Actually, the point of making laws that can't be enforced is to add stacks of charges to the people they choose to destroy. It's retroactive. They don't intend for any of these laws to be enforced pro-actively, or to prevent anyone from doing anything. It's about enhancing the punishment afterward, to bankrupt the individual and extract all actual and hypothetical future wealth from the person, and hook the person up to The Matrix. There are millions of lawyers, judges, bailiffs, social workers, jail and prison workers, cops, sheriffs, media and PR types, psychiatrists, pharmaceuticals salesmen, etc. depending on this. Without the add-on charges facilitated by these laws, the courts' allowing of multiple charges for the same action and tainting of jury pools with impunity, all of these people would have to find honest work. And that's not easy as the Empire and the internally-contradicted economy unravel.
Owning a firearm is one thing. Being ready, willing, and able to use it is quite another.
It takes a tremendous amount of time to become proficient.
Start now. Be safe. Don't quit. Have fun.
Dont forget the small group training sessions, after you become proficient with the basics. Static defense is worthwhile, but moving and firing in small teams is what gives you an edge on any battlefield.
until one of your team sells you out...think Judas Iscariot
You're a fucking idiot.
Must be rough for you to know there are lots of us out there in the field training. It is the inevitable outcome of too much tyranny. Bet you lean that Sig over 90 degrees before you fire it. All Boyz in the Hood style. Chump.
Wow you guys have something in common, fucking idiot meet fucking douche bag.
Heady is a cop. And doesn't like us to be well armed, proficient, and willing to stop the highway robbery being committed everyday!!!
I suggest learning how to hunt big game in several hunting techniques. You will acquire a variety of useful field skills if you are to be consistently successful. The technique and equipment will likely change with the terrain and species. You may even improve your physical fitness and navigation/orienteering skills.

"In 2013, 186,000 people were allowed to buy weapons without a background check at all......"
Does anyone understand the difference between a right and a privilege? A privilege is granted to me by a higher authority. A right is already possessed by the only higher authority that counts..........ME.
Fuck this 'allowed' shit.
The problem is the gov. controls commerce. Gun stores have to be licensed which means they break the law if they sell a gun to you and you don't have a FID card.
Yeah you can own one without a license. If you don't have one, where are you going to buy it or ammo without the license??
Government is limiting your rights by limiting a business privilege..
just curious, i don't follow gun laws outside of the south since I will never live there, but where the fuck do you live that requires a license to buy AMMO?
Not sure if it is a license or a limit but Mass has some sorta restrictions on ammo. They had to pass a new law for Kevin McHale about shotgun ammo back in the day. Don't remember the deets but google is your friend if you want to know.
And there is the new normal perpetual ammo shortage. Don't need a license here but that doesn't matter if nobody has any for sale.
Shortage for my favored calibers just means the big yellow smiley face is sold out.
Mass, CT, NY and perhaps NJ all require an ID to buy ammo and gun powder
Canada
I made my kid get the license.
Illinois you need a FOID card to buy guns and ammo.
Chicago had the strictest guns laws and the highest murder rate, west side of Chicago is a fucking war zone.
Kids getting shot every weekend, never makes national news.
It's always the Sandy Hook's, Tyvrone's and the Michael Brown's that get the attention.
Curious to see if the new influx of armed citizens in Cook County Chicago will deter some of the violence.
Allowed to what protect myself, exercise a right, fuck you thats what I say to that. Its all bs..
You are right, but you are wrong. Or perhaps confused like everyone else. The "Right" has been preempoted by a privilege. You do NOT own your firearms as Property is defined and protected by our constitutions. A right of liberty or property would be an impossibility without a process of law to protect it. And of course as with firearms, there are 2 distinct classess of persons that possess firearms. Manufactureres and Dealers engaged in a taxable business/occupational privilege that affects the health, saftey, and second amendment rights NOT possessed by the Licensee. The other, the citizens. You know which class you fit. But that is irrelevent. The LAW has placed you in I in the Privileged class along with all its summary administrative processes that go with it.
An explanation: The firearms is manufactured. It is then TRANSFERED between manu and dealer as subject to both business regulations via State police powers and summary contril of the PROPERTY via the federal TAXING power as it moves through COMMERCE. The Gun control Acts the require the firearm to be RETRANSFERED to the citizen ...AS IF....And under the same ongoing summary administrative powers as between manu and dealer. The second amendment does not apply to that class does it? Not according to the USSC. And these summary administrative powers, by law, are extended to you and me.How do the courts view these powers? Hands off under the separation of powers doctrine. The courts of law and equity do NOT deal with political questions and they could care less WHO is affected by the law along the chain of TRANSFER.
Sorry, you do NOT own your firearms. You possess them subject to an unconstitutional EXTENSION of the federal jurisdiction via a LAW that will NOT release them from the plenary taxing and commerce powers. Look up summary siezure and forfiture laws and understand that the entire legal framework has been laid for confiscation of ALL firearms and ammo in the good old USA. The second amendment is IRRELEVENT in the eyes of the court.
Go ahead and down vote me. 30 years and over 60,000 hours of research in the areas of constitutional law we are dealing with. Am I the only person that gets it????? Constitutional / judicial process has been REPLACED by summary administrative processess under the PRIVILEGE all protected by an illusion created by separation of powers. Without the courts, WHO will stop the insanity of the political branches? Thats right. Its called justification for CIVIL WAR.
Hedge accordingly
HI all...I am going way off topic but there is something important I wanted to talk about..I dont post much but to be honest, I usually get alot of thumbs up when I do....Please forgive me for going off topic this one time, but this question is driving me nuts...
Its about precious metals..I was a gold bug I guess, I also said to buy pm's etc. But check this out.
1. Of course gold is money etc.
2. the price manipulation will not stop until they are ready for the dollar to die and go to SDR's or whatever etc.
3. By the time that happens, the police state will be overwhelming
4. Silver and Gold will go thru the roof.
but my final comment...Do you think on Gods green earth, that when the metals hit high numbers they are going to let the low lifes such as you and I trade it in for...??? SDR's dollars??? I mean WTF? you gonna go into a coin shop and get 5k for a coin?
Seriously, if gold goes to 5k an ounce, what will it even do? They will call you a terrorist for trying to trade it in..
Oh, some like Jim Willie say put it in another country...Yeah right..customs will see it, and dear lord, I could write a novel here but are you getting my point at all? I am jsut a layman and dont know anything, but this is a topic that should be discussed..
I truly apologize for going off topic, but I am at the edge of my seat here..
Thanks to you all, and I do love this place because most of you are not sheeple..
Love, Stephen
You should buys US Treasuries.
lol hedge...I dont know what to buy anymore..actually I am out of money, but lucky enough to own some country land where I can grow food etc...guns, ammo, storable food.. Your answer was humorous, and thanks tho. lol
actually, I am gonna wait until January and buy a big screen tv for $100 dollars that people stood in line for all night that paid $500... :-) Then I am gonna veg and watch tv and stock up on beer...not but whatever. And anyone who did not buy firearms awhile back, well...dont know what to tell ya. And as another poster mentioned, buying a firearm is not knowing how to use it... Most people that buy firearms, well, I will just take them from them...dorks. Having a firearm without training will only save you from some stupid thug breaking into your house for money to get a heroin fix. ....sorry you guys, but I think I may have broken up with my girlfriend tonite, and will probably bug you because I am alone :-) Its cheaper than going to the bar...
Teach yourself to brew beer. It's easy, cheap, and the ladies think you are 'renaissance', whatever the fuck that means.
It means they think you'll also cook for them morning, noon and night.
That's the trick. I will cook for them at night. I am hungry by then. That's why I installed the grill six feet from the back door.
The whole point of gold and silver isn't to trade it in for cash. It is to buy something without using cash, just don't let your head explode on that thought.
you forgot to indicate "sarc. on"
MyRA or is it MyIRA? That is the way forward.
Into a grave.
@coast, you should post more often.
A friend of mine gave me a nice slingshot last week. I will pick up ammo as I go.
If you trust me with a vote, why not with an M9 and a fully automatic AR-15?
Hmmm....
When you vote, they know you are shooting with blanks.
At a minimum everyone should carry a slingshot. These guys have the best slingbows on the market.

You jam it in a back pocket and forget about it. Light, transportable, rocks abound. Who knows what tool in the kit is the deciding factor.
Asymmetrical warfare. Mnemonic learning. I'll put up our 7 billion node-collective over their tiny coterie everyday.
The've been forced by our learning curve to accelerate their plans. Advantage us. Their curtain of concealment grows thread-bare.
Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.
Nahhh... I just carry a small Sig instead
Kahr PM9... before the unfortunate boating accident, that is.
Am I the only one who thinks ALL firearm purchases should be made without the KNOWLEDGE of ANY federal government agency, including the FBI?
No but apparently all the .gov trolls got the night off. Holiday weekend, you know?
The 3D printer agrees with you.
The FBI must be backlogged from all the Syrian rebel background checks for all the AK's and rocket launchers we gave them
In South Carolina, once you have your concealed carry permit, you may purchase additional firearms without specific background checks. The beauty is, the Feds dont automatically know what's in your arsenal. All the dealer records is that a short/long gun was sold to a CWP holder.
But you still need one license to plant cotton and another license to pick it. Yeehaaaaaa!
I've been there. I genuinely loved it. Still, the above gave me great pause.
It's simple. The CWP enables you to amass an arsenal that the Feds have no direct record of.
If I could be escorted in my uncle's tank to Darra Adamkhel, I'd buy there and skip the CWP.
I am not a bible thumper, I consider myself a bible scholar. I jsut read. If you dont know the story, type it into your search engine..."Jesus and Barabas". The provacteers (sp), incited the crowd to release barabas who was a known thief and low life instead of Jesus...This stuff has been going on for centuries. And they picked the worst one to do this with because this was actually an incident where the cop was in the right, which is rare..yikes...
Party time bitchez.
I wish they had the same rule with income taxes. If your return is not processed within 3 days you should not have to pay.
I don't need no stinking gun. I keep a Taylor Made 6 iron under my bed. Come at me.
I carried a nine iron in the back seat in Miami the first year I lived there until I realized that it was worse than useless. I was 23 and had never heard the expression 'knife to a gunfight'. Amazing what i learned in Miami between 1981 and 1984.
The low crawl?
Change Amerika : A Police officer in the state of _______ who, in the course of his duties, shall cause the death of a citizen, shall no longer be eligible for any public office or in law enforcement within the state of _______.
No judgement of guilt, moral or legal, is implied by this statute. Just a loss of employment in civil service to the community or state.
By far the largest army on Earth... armed American citizens... just got a little larger.
We need to be armed with the UN and the Police mounting assualts:
http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/us-shootings-by-police-prison-condition...
Didn't know there was a time limit on the background check. Thanks for the info ZH.
