Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson Resigns, Hopes His "Resignation Will Allow The Community To Heal"

Tyler Durden's picture

Days after Ferguson was torched by angry rioters following a grand jury verdict not to indict police officer Darren Wilson in the shooting death of Michael Brown, the policeman's lawyer announced moments ago that he has resigned from the Ferguson, Mo., Police Department.

As ABC reports, Wilson has been on administrative leave since the shooting. One of his attorneys, Neil Bruntrager, said the resignation is effective immediately.

Though Wilson was cleared of criminal charges by the grand jury, the Justice Department is conducting a civil rights investigation into the shooting as well as a separate probe of police department practices. Wilson, who has been in seclusion since the fatal shooting, said this week in an interview with "Good Morning America" anchor George Stephanolpoulos that he had gotten married since the Aug.9 shooting and that he and his new wife are expecting a baby.

Wilson's resignation is unexpected because in that interview he announced that wanted to spend his career with the police force, and hoped to one day be promoted to sergeant. "I wanted to stay on the road for 30 years and then retire as sergeant and have a retirement," Wilson said. "That's all that I wanted."

But he said that after what happened, he was not sure he could return to the Ferguson Police Department. He was a member of the department for six years. "I'm not sure it's possible. I mean, you think they would accept me? You think it'd be safe for me?" Wilson asked.

He said his notoriety could also put his fellow officers in jeopardy, and asked: "Can I put them in that situation?"

Though in the interview he said he had not made a final decision on returning to the force, he offered some thoughts on what else he might want to do.

"I would love to teach people. I would love to give more insight on … into the use of force and anything I can," he said. "Anything that I can get out of this career I've had so far and of the incident, I would love to give to someone else."n is unexpected

Wilson's full resignation letter is below:

"I, Darren Wilson, hereby resign my commission as a police officer with the City of Ferguson effective immediately. I have been told that my continued employment may put the residents and police officers of the City of Ferguson at risk, which is a circumstance that I cannot allow. For obvious reasons, I wanted to wait until the grand jury made their decision before I officially made my decision to resign. It was my hope to continue in police work, but the safety of other police officers and the community are of paramount importance to me. It is my hope that my resignation will allow the community to heal. I would like to thank all of my supporters and fellow officers throughout this process."

It never fails to amaze me how people can be so short-sighted.  This "unarmed teenager" was less than 3 seconds away from becoming armed with the cop's gun.  To call him unarmed, when he was clearly enroute to becoming armed is disingenuous.  Never mind that his size alone made the disparity of force significant to warrant deadly force.

Apolgoists galore.

3 seconds?

100ft away and you need to put 12 shots into him?

would have been better getting into your SUV and run him over, probably had a better chane of living than dumping 12 shots into him hoping he would die.

That is exactly what the one world government people want. Nothing between you and them.

No dipshit, a law enforcement bureaucracy hires them. If you think John Q. Public has any real influence on said bureaucracy, I recommend you speak to the parents of Kelly Thomas. When a mentally ill man is brutally beaten to death by 5 officers, on camera, and none suffer consequences that pretty much forever slams the door on police being accountable to the public. Despite their many failings the black community has clearly understood this for the better part of a century. Unfortunately people of all ethnic backgrounds are manipulated into hatred of one another by TPTB. The racist fucktards here who claim to believe in "liberty" but celebrate the use of lethal force against an unarmed young man with no criminal record need to die in a fire. And no matter how many douchebag activists latch on to this tragedy, it is STILL a tragedy.

Liberty must come from a smaller city or town, like i do. we have exactly what he says- the ability to hire and fire law enforcement thru our smaller town ways. of course, in Some smaller towns, the fact that they have that employment power might accentuate the problem. but Still i prefer it to not even knowing any of the people on your police force. and the risk of cronyism is less now that communication and information flow is much easier than a couple decades ago. you can keep your big city system

You are quite correct.  The real struggle will be between those who want government power increasingly centralized versus those who think it should be decentralized.  Those who just say "no government" should be on the side of decentralization until we get there, but if they were really thinking things through they would not have a "no government" position anyway.

Explain to me how elimination of a violent, opressive - and very expensive - layer of the state is anything other than good.

I think what you're not understanding here is that if you like having an armend security force, you can have it! You can always hired a security company to patrol your home or your neighborhood. However in that situation, they are your employees, and if they start misbehaving, you can simply fire them. It's that simple. With the municipal Kop Force, you can't get rid of them. That's the problem.

Get it?

Private security forces can go bad just like local police can.

It always comes back to We the People taking care of ourselves. People decide how they are going to live together. Get along, or push and shove.

We've become so accustomed to being pushed and shoved that we've forgotten that we can talk and trade ideas.

No you're still not getting it. I'll clarify. Let's say I hire my own private security company. They patrol my property. They keep out robbers and so on. They are misbehaving, so I fire them and hire a different outfit. Do you see? When you have a government security force, you can't fire them, It's. That. Simple.

Now do you understand?

Are you out of your fuckin mind?

Go ahead and try to get a cop fired. Give it a try.

Then, while you're at it, try to get the whole fuckin' force fired. LOL. You idiot, you've misunderstood something very, very fundamental here. The state isn't interested in being flanked. There are interested in force. They exist by force. You can't just "fire them." That's the fucking problem.

LOL

Here's another way:

Get assaulted by a 300 lb black adult (who just robbed a convenience store) who then attacks you in your squad car and tries to grab your gun then bum rushes you as you try to enforce the law.

Fearing for your life, you justifiably shoot the attacking thug to death.

The neighborhood, hyped up by outside agitators including your own federal government, goes nuts and literally burns themselves out of what little jobs are available.

As a token of responsibility, you resign your position.

do you even understand the workings or purpose of a grand jury?  this was only to determine if there was even a *potential* for a jury case, and this got treated like a jury case.  the net effect was the system telling us "there's no possible way he's guilty, this is not work looking in to."

Good cops may exist, but I have not met any of those good cops. They tailgate my car, set up speed traps, extort money, act as enforcement arm for the banksters, but I don't see them taking too many risks anymore. Maybe they used to fight real crime, but more and more all they do is seize money and property from hard working citizens and fill out paperwork after the crime is over and nothing can be done, never solving it.

What I do know is this: If good cops do exist, they do not do enough good to make up for the bad the bad cops do and so I would fare better defending myself. Collectively, they have become bankster thugs.

Maybe true.

Haven't followed this case cause frankly I'm burning out.

Quick question though from cops on the 'Hedge - what week did you learn its a capital idea to put a suspect in the front seat with you, where your movements are constricted and your firearm is about 11 inches from him?

I've never been to cop school, as it turns out I didn't torture enough pets and farm animals to death as a yute, but ... is this standard procedure?

Oho!

Negatives? Do explain? Did the cop NOT allow the suspect in the front seat with him? As I said, I haven't followed this shooting, but I believed that was true.

Or are you ignorant enough to deny the torture of powerless animals is in fact an indicator of future psychopathy?

lol

I dunno either RafterMan with a full metal jacket, but do you remember the initial reports that the cop's eye socket was dislocated?  I can easily call bullshit on that.

I never heard that Michael Brown was allowed in the the front seat of the cop car- did you make that shit up on your own or do have a source of said info?

Brown was more than likely a punk/thug, and his momma will deny that to her grave.  But, the more-or-less indiscriminate use of lethal force by LEO's has gotten out of hand.

Nowadays, they'll kill you for running a stop sign.

No that's where I read the first round went off, in car, as suspect and cop struggled over gun, in front seat. This was early in the killing - haven't followed the case.

Edit:

Looked it up finally. Apparently, he was never in the car.

Via Wiki:

"Dorian Johnson, a friend of Brown, was walking with him in the street. Johnson said that Wilson pulled up beside them and said, "Get the fuck on the sidewalk."[76][77][78][79] The young men replied that they were "not but a minute away from [their] destination, and [they] would shortly be out of the street".[79] Wilson drove forward without saying anything further, only to abruptly back up, positioning his vehicle crosswise in their path, almost hitting the two men. "We were so close, almost inches away, that when he tried to open his door aggressively, the door ricocheted both off me and Big Mike's body and closed back on the officer."[37]

Wilson, still in his vehicle, grabbed Brown around his neck through the open window.[45] Brown tried to pull away, but Wilson continued to pull Brown toward him "like tug of war".[80] Brown "did not reach for the officer's weapon at all", and was attempting to get free of Wilson rather than attack him or take his weapon from him.[77][81][82][83][84] Wilson drew his weapon and said, "I'll shoot you" or "I'm going to shoot", and almost instantaneously fired his weapon, hitting Brown.

Following the initial gunshot, Brown was able to free himself, at which point the two fled. Wilson exited the vehicle, after which he fired several rounds at the fleeing Brown, hitting him once in the back.[37][79] Brown turned around with his hands raised and said, "I don't have a gun. Stop shooting!" Wilson then shot Brown several more times, killing him.[37][60] Johnson's attorney stated that Wilson did not attempt to resuscitate Brown, did not call for medical help, and "he didn't call it in that someone had been shot."[85] Johnson told local TV stations shortly after the shooting that Brown had been surrendering[86] when Wilson opened fire without cause or warning."

I was very wrong to question the officer's tactics or training. Apologies.

Don't have a gripe with Jews in general, just them who call themselves Jews, but are not (while they hide behind behind the cloak of Israel which the idiot neo-christians applaud in their ultimate idiocy).

The leadership of Israel is not Jewish, but Zionist.  They are also in control of the US MIC.  However, the pseudo-jews are themselves controlled by the Vatican via the Crown Corporation of London.

The cops are just the first line of defence the Crown uses to control you, and this is why shit-for-brains (marionette Obama) has just announced a new initiative to better arm and train them.

As I just explained to one of your idiot buddies, the scenario you present above is unpossible.  But you go right ahead with your bad self.

First, you don't understand the demo's of the st louis metro area.  For the most part, people who CAN move out, already have 20 years ago.  Ferguson is a shithole and all of you armchair judges and executioners would lock your doors if you accidentally ended up driving through there.  I don't understand why you commenters are all anti-wilson, have you never had any run ins with 18 year old "invincible" males?

I still want to know why the dude that incited the riot, on video, plain to see, won't be arrested for inciting a riot.  I also want to know why they don't release gentle giant MB's juvy record, which, after death becomes public.  I would suspect we'd see things in his juvy record that paints angel mike negatively.  Also, why was grandma raising little mikey?  Why does Mike's mom have such a nice list of charges on missouri case net?  Why was mikey's mom allowed to get passports fast tracked for their trip to Geneva?  When is mikey's mom going to get charged for assaulting mikey's grandma for selling mikey merchandise?  Why are all of these communist groups and anarchists infiltrating St. Louis?  I watch these streamers going from place to place in St. Louis county and they don't know where they are going.

I'm not anti-Wilson. I just wanted the guy to make his self-defense case in court. Not in a grand jury. He may be right. But no one else gets that treatment from a prosecutor. He practically made the case for the cop. And I'm not the only one saying this. The bar association said the same. Hell, a defense attorney on tv was snickering when an anchor asked him if he expected this to be the norm going forward. It was a joke.

And the show of force was to intimidate people. It was theatre. I wouldn't be surprised if some fires and violence were started by agent provocateurs.

But in the end, why bother rebuilding? Just collect the insurance and move on. It's not like any of this is positive for the future. Getting your business burned down is a blessing. Cash the bitch out and leave.

I still don't understand why are they shoot more then 1 time.

Because handgun rounds suck!  That's why.  As big as Mike Brown was, you would need like .454 Casull rounds or preferably 7.62 NATO rifle rounds out of a rifle to take that big dude down.

Most people who make silly statements like yours have never shot a "real" gun in their entire lives, and have never taken any type of firearms training whatsoever.

Take some classes and you'll learn real fucking quick why one-shot stops don't work, and aiming for legs and arms with a handgun under time contstraints (we are taking 1.5 seconds with a buzzer) doesn't work.  The whole point is to STOP the adversary and one .40 caliber round ain't going to cut it.

Most soldiers in combat don't fire their weapons. They are too scared to aggress against and/or attempt to kill another human.

More and more, the institutions employing the gun and badge thugs need psychopaths to aggress against people to rob and/or cage them. Therefore, more and more they are employing people looking for a position where they CAN hunt and kill people.

I.e. a "good" cop would resist robbing and indiscriminately caging people, and would be less "productive." Psychopaths are more "productive," if their most egregious acts can be controlled.

They fire multiple times because they LIKE to kill and are DETERMINED to kill.

That is my armchair analysis of the violence of the gun and badge thugs.

Interesting question of how many soldiers fire their guns.  From the article you link, what is now considered shoddy data from WWII suggested most didn't, but then it goes on to new conclusions arising from newer studies from Vietnam:

When asked what portion of their fellow soldiers fired during any given engagement, the veterans estimated that about 84 percent of a unit's men armed with individual weapons (rifles, pistols, grenade launchers, shotguns) and approximately 90 percent of those manning crew-served weapons (generally the M-60 machine gun) did so. From these responses it seems that Americans in Vietnam had little hesitation to engage their enemy.

Of that 16% of soldiers who didn't fire during "any given" engagement, which seemed to be a term used for consistently doing so, most had fired at times.

I would guess that in the decades since, the willingness/readyness to kill has not diminished, with most of our boys now spending their childhoods endlessly rehearsing via video games in a culture where violence is far more glorified than it used to be.

But given that we're talking about conduct in war zones, I am reluctant to see it as an indictment of the soldier per se. Gotta agree that it will be the psychopaths who will stick with it as a career and embrace those professional cultures where it is celebrated . . . as it most certainly is among cops and prison guards, as I have seen while working in their company as a psychologist.

Perfectly good testosterone becomes an ugly poison in those cultures.  The honor we're trained to embody and enforce simply as men is perverted beyond recognition by those sick fucks.  The irony is that they are considered "hyper-masculine," when they are the very antithesis of the core values of manhood: Self-control and honor

The 'repudiation' of the supposedly "shoddy" data (which was sufficiently non-shoddy as to encourage militaries around the world to alter their training) is... wait for it... a survey taken 15 years after the fact.

Oh please.

The problem of getting saps to kill other saps, is as old as war.

The good thing is that fuckwits who are prepared to kill "on foreign field", suffer debilitating psychological trauma (nearly rhymes with karma); the bad thing is that they come home and jkoin police departments.

Also - re Vietnam. I am pretty certain that faliure to engage was sufficiently large a problem that Westmoreland ordered that troops be disciplined it they were found not to have fired their weapon under contact. This gave birth to 'spray and pray' the moment there was contact - people firing unaimed rounds: the same thing that normal (non-psychopathic) men have done since the invention of firearms.

Most don't realize that Wilson gunned the kid down within 90 seconds of first interaction.

I have been tracking the brutality of the gun and badge thugs since Rodney King, so I am well informed on not only the topic, but trends as well.

One trend that is growing exponentially is how the thugs show up WANTING to kill and quickly escalate the most mundane situation into one where they have just enough leeway to kill. One sees this with the rash of killings of people that are handicapped. The thugs were called to help, but often manipulate the situation so as to be able to shoot the poor victim--"Don't call the police!"

Now some evidence:

Here a thug shoots a deaf elderly man that has just walked across the street after only 11 seconds of interaction--yelling at the victims back: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dt1mFQG3tJg

Last week, in Cleveland, the thugs showed up and gunned down a 12-year old after less than 2 seconds of interaction: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Z8qNUWekWE

What many don't know about the execution of Oscar Grant is that the altercation that the thugs were called in on had ended and the suspects had LEFT the station. The thugs showed up and started assaulting and brutalizing people, and then executed one, Oscar Grant: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5h-IEg8c6uI

Then there is James Boyd in Albuquerque. The thug actually brags about wanting, planning, to shoot Boyd BEFORE he goes and does so: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4SzpZbkgjJ8

Remember, each and everyone of the thugs you see on a daily basis WANT to rob you, and kill you if they can.

An American, not US subject.

Bonus: Here the thugs attack and kill a man, then play "Weekend at Bernies" with his body to cover up their crime while the wife is filming. His crime, not showing the thugs his ID fast enough for the thugs' liking: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qy66quF0pek
