BECAUSE IT'S ALWAYS DIFFERENT THIS TIME!

THAT'S WHY!

And just try talking history to even a 40 something these days and you'll get this look like you're a kook saying the world began before Jan 1, 1970 at 00:00 !

They don't want to fucking know what went on before last week cause that's "ancient history" that's all behind us now.

Typical US militaristic boondoggle. Still haven't won a war since 1945, which in any case was more of a Soviet win, and still strutting around chest puffed up. Having their asses handed to them by tribal farmers in Afghanistan with small arms, and still they think they can come up with a tech panacea. And here we have disablet vet still sucking up the kool aid. How more insane can you get than that?

. . .  if species could improve by learning, there'd be no need for evolution.

Humans are still  EXACTLY THE SAME  as the people who exploited the Fertile Crescent or painted the caves at Lascaux — I doubt that Nebuchadnezzar or Charlemagne or Lincoln would be any better at running the EU or regulating Nuclear Power.

It would seem that every 80 years america has had a major catastrophe.... starting with the american revolution ( about 1780 )... then the civil war ( about 1860 ) then wwii ( about 1940 )...  and now... we are here again....

every time worse... everytime much worse....  never fought a war on our own soil.( against another country ).. are you sure it won't happen this time?  We fought terrible wars on other soils.... burnt stinking bodies were the only thing my uncle would admit to when asked about WWII....  He just about refused to talk about the war... my father did refuse... and never talked about it to his own son... my uncle only did on his death bed....  does anyone know or realize that 40 year old men were being drafted into WWII?

That's how serious that war was.... care to think about the next one?

What is in store for us next???

I'm a 50yr old man....

My father and uncle had seen more than most could endure..... my uncle was there at the philippines when they took it back afer the japs killed almost 200 thousand of the population before they left the place... ( yes... I called them japs )... sorry if I hurt your feelings ( not yours publicus ).... they're the same ones that had raping contests on the chinese folks or dropped plaigue'd flees on the chinese ( comfort women ).... as they called them.

My uncle was in port once and was on a bench on his ship and heard, "BUMP"... "BUMP".... get got up and looked over the edge and saw a jap torpedo.. bouncing off the ship..... too weak to explode.

what will happen to us now?

Every 80yrs the US burns... either externally or internally or both... how will it be now?

my father in law was a colonel.... he had responsibility over a base that was doing bio warfare in the 80s.

He'll tell you how much he hates monkeys.... My wife and her father had had some fallouts...

Here is the deal from a man that was doing the testing... He said this:  The British killed entire villages to destroy the virus in the 80s.... commandos with suits just went in and killed the whole village.

Hell, I don't care if you belive me..  I believe Henry... He was a full bird colonel..... and he's about 80 now.  He also told my wife that it was airborne... maybe not airborn in the clinical way but, it travels through the air.... person to person... not dallas to washington.

I like Canada...  and, I wish you guys the best... I just hope your one shot shotguns and bolt action deer rifles will protect you.

( I don't know what your laws are but, I do know that they suck compared to ours )

In Texas, for example... you can use deadly force for anyone on your property at nignt for stealing... vandalizing or being a dick when you don't like it..... others in your stead can also defend your property for you in that respect.

I'm not at all sure that Ferguson protests will work out well in Texas for those that are willing to defend property from looters.....  the looters just die and end up being target practice.... there is no grand jury... it's the law here.

If you don't like this... make damned sure and stay out of my yard... it's not safe for you, Bro.

Define evil empire:

-- Nearly 60 million abortions.

-- Attack on Christianty, the family and virtue.

-- Run away government spending, and insane monetary policy.

-- The exponential expansion of the nanny and welfare states

-- Criminal behavior of the congress, president his cabinet the DOJ

-- Deprivation without due process of private property by government to the benefit of business

-- The active destruction of other countries duly elected governments through covert force, manipulation, lies and murder.

-- Creating, training , and funding extremist groups in the ME, Africa, and the Ukraine.

The evil empire lost? Hardly sir, I'd say that they are doing just capital.

Plus, you can't learn anything from "history". You know what they teach kids in school now? That 9-11 was perpetrated by Iraqis, and that's why the US invaded Iraq. I'm not even kidding...my son, aged 14 at the time, came home from school one day last year and told me this.

At least now, we have the internet, so we can see different versions of "history" if we care to research. But now I know that it's entirely likely that everything I've learned about history from before I was born is probably a complete fabrication.

Yes, even ZH. Ostensibly, the most important thing for those in control is to control and they seem perfectly happy controlling opposing and incompatible views of the world.

If there is one thing that years of reading alternative media (and mainstream media) has taught me is that "reacting" based on what one source says wastes a whole lot of energy for no real purpose and makes one look stupid in the process.

However, I still believe (still hope) that somewhere within the compilation of everything is something useful, whether truth or untruth. Hopefully time and a library of the lies told over the years makes one better at discerning B/S.

Sun, 11/30/2014 - 23:10 | 5503379 SofaPapa

Yes, CogDis.

I have reached the same conclusion, and ZH is included.  We on here are being entertained and distracted just like our brethren.  I still prefer this to the MSM, because I prefer to think that being warned to prepare for the worst has some slight potential to be useful rather than being told how awesome everything is, when clearly it is not.  That said, however, all this back and forth is not gathering people physically together.  And that will be what tips the scale, not jawboning, but congregating.  Nowhere near that happening yet.

Sun, 11/30/2014 - 23:32 | 5503433 Cognitive Dissonance
Cognitive Dissonance's picture

There are several shocks involved in the waking process.

1) That the MSM media lies to us and always has if for no other reason than to serve an agenda(s). And that the vast majority of MSM has been thoroughly co-opted, if only to serve its own best interest (aka an agenda) and always has been.

2) That the alternative media tends to do the same if for no other reason than to serve an agenda. And that the vast majority of alternative media has been thoroughly co-opted, if only to serve its own best interest (aka an agenda) and always has been.

This does not mean there are not small patches of media on both sides of the fence mostly free of these influences. Then again, those who fit this bill seem to be mostly ignored because they do not serve an agenda. What fun is there is reading, watching or listening to media that doesn't tell you what you want to hear?

The ultimate insane positive feedback loop. I know what I want to believe mostly because I have been told what to believe. The media I listen to tells me what I want to hear so I listen even closer to the media that tells me what I want to hear. That media, strengthened by those who support it, continue to tell its supporters what they want to hear. I in turn seek out additional media that tells me what I want to hear. Wash, rinse and repeat endlessly.

Nirvana!

All media has its own agenda.  They key  is to read differnet media sites even if you disagree with them.  The problem these days is most tend to go to the same ole places as the USA is so divided these days.  Many sites will flat out ban you if you type a rational arguement about their blog. Many sites talk about freedom to exchange ideas as long as you do not rock their boat.  The main reason I come here daily is because many here post conflicting comments.  I usually just skim over the race baiting unless it makes since.

Yes, but what exactly are they distracting us from?

... or is it their version of creating purpose for our otherwise purposeless lives.

All 7 billion of us are told to believe in a God and creator who cares for each individual separately. It is not the number of units that I find daunting, but the question why?

... and maybe that is what we are being distracted from, the question and its answer.

We have seen through recent experiments that science is rediscovering that our brains put out signals that can be used to interpret what we are thinking and also what we are communicating.

The total amount of power available to our bodies, including our brain is much, much larger than that of any cell phone of laptop computer.

How far fetched is I to believe that we are constantly transmitting telepathically, but we have lost or have forgotten the ability to receive. This could be the basis for prayer ... we transmit and others, not us, receive.

This would make the current type of spying by alphabet agencies and their masters crude by comparison. They infer and compile, instead of going to the source.

It is said that we had to be re-engineered and scattered after the Tower of Babel incident. Apparently some, just can't let it go.

...

We’re so self-important. Everybody’s going to save something now. “Save the trees, save the bees, save the whales, save those snails.” And the greatest arrogance of all: save the planet. Save the planet, we don’t even know how to take care of ourselves yet. I’m tired of this shit. I’m tired of f-ing Earth Day. I’m tired of these self-righteous environmentalists, these white, bourgeois liberals who think the only thing wrong with this country is that there aren’t enough bicycle paths. People trying to make the world safe for Volvos. Besides, environmentalists don’t give a shit about the planet. Not in the abstract they don’t. You know what they’re interested in? A clean place to live. Their own habitat. They’re worried that some day in the future they might be personally inconvenienced. Narrow, unenlightened self-interest doesn’t impress me.

The planet has been through a lot worse than us. Been through earthquakes, volcanoes, plate tectonics, continental drift, solar flares, sun spots, magnetic storms, the magnetic reversal of the poles … hundreds of thousands of years of bombardment by comets and asteroids and meteors, worldwide floods, tidal waves, worldwide fires, erosion, cosmic rays, recurring ice ages … And we think some plastic bags and some aluminum cans are going to make a difference? The planet isn’t going anywhere. WE are!

We’re going away. Pack your shit, folks. We’re going away. And we won’t leave much of a trace, either. Maybe a little Styrofoam … The planet’ll be here and we’ll be long gone. Just another failed mutation. Just another closed-end biological mistake. An evolutionary cul-de-sac. The planet’ll shake us off like a bad case of fleas.

The planet will be here for a long, long, LONG time after we’re gone, and it will heal itself, it will cleanse itself, ’cause that’s what it does. It’s a self-correcting system. The air and the water will recover, the earth will be renewed. And if it’s true that plastic is not degradable, well, the planet will simply incorporate plastic into a new paradigm: the earth plus plastic. The earth doesn’t share our prejudice toward plastic. Plastic came out of the earth. The earth probably sees plastic as just another one of its children. Could be the only reason the earth allowed us to be spawned from it in the first place. It wanted plastic for itself. Didn’t know how to make it. Needed us. Could be the answer to our age-old egocentric philosophical question, “Why are we here?”

Plastic… asshole.”

"Brave New World" is okay in the beginning and then just totally falls apart. The depiction of Amerindians by self-styled expert Huxley is so bad as to beggar belief. That the persecuted young boy is a proxy for Huxley is so obvious as to be embarrassing. But it's okay, if you figure out how awful the novel is, there is an island you can go to where the pain of actually having read it will be ameliorated. In the novel, that is. In the real world, the suffering has to be endured,

Being quite versed in history, I can assure all that are reading this that history does NOT repeat. Nope.

Only the crimes of government do, and the obedience of those that have not learned about the crimes of government from history.

Saying that history repeats seems to be a bit of a cop-out; victimology.

Notice that even Huxley used the active word, "learn," not the more passive, "discover."

Know that only the crimes of government repeat, and refuse to behave as others in the past have. Refuse to emulate their obedience, and you, your country, the world, and history will have a better outcome.

Yes, history repeat it self. That is why Putin regime must be stopped.

We see how Putin propoganda brainwashes people minds about "Russian world" and "Pure Russians", "Chosen nation", etc. Putin regime has attacked and killed civilians in Chechnya when nation struggled for independence, than attacked Georgia (who where their brothers!) and occupied teritories there - now in progress to annex those teritories, than Putin regime occupied and annexed part of Ukraine - Crimea, now occupied part of east Ukraine and desperatly trying to annex it. He is acting like nazi Hitler. He has full control over Russian media and people there are brainwashed with lies just like in Nazi Germany. And now Putin regime works abroad with such propoganda channels like Russia Today and so called alternative media like ZeroHedge. There are huge buildings full with "computer administrators" which are payed to troll Putin regime propoganda at articles, forums, blogs, tweets, Facebook, ZeroHedge, Russia Today site, Youtube, etc. This propoganda machine has huge budget billions of USD to brainwash people.

Yes, indeed - history repeat it self. This mad Putin regime must be stopped - before it goes full open nazi regime.

But, if you spend time studying history, it's hard to have time to run in politics.

Unfortunately, due to a bad educational system, the politicians have not spent enough time studying history!

So, we are screwed unless we can reintroduce regular school skills + teaching thought (philosophy) and a secular, moral base.

I would call the war of 1812 a lesser war, as to the winner it is claimed by both sides. I would say that the advantage and the win goes to Britain with the caveat that it was the indirect intervention of Napolean that spared the US from total defeat to the need for more men and war materials to fight the emperor of France's campaign of European domination.

Consequently it was also to the US advantage when Napolean was nearly bankrupted that allowed for vast expansion of the US westward.

The point is that decisions have unforeseen significant and lasting consequences and second and third order effects.

I generally agree with your premise and its a perspective that I had not considered.

Ok. Thanks I'm writing hurriedly on an iPad (no excuse but a reason).
What was incorrect with the history piece?

Napoleon was engaged in wars across Europe with Prussia, Russia and Great Britain, the war started circa 1798 are you rejecting this?

Also The UK was stretched supporting two wars one on the other side of the world in the US.

The war in the US also had tied up many of Britains most experienced soldiers.

Please reply I would like to here your response. Thank you again.
