Guest Post: Fanning The Flames In Ferguson

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by James H. Kunstler via Kunstler.com,

The climactic uproar in Ferguson, Mo., a week ago took a zany turn when the “we want peace” message of Michael Brown’s family rotated 180 degrees to the imperative command, “burn this bitch down,” hollered repeatedly by stepfather Louis Head outside the grand jury headquarters as the decision was announced. The assembled crowd dutifully obliged and burned down many of the businesses that the local population depends on for routine commerce.

The scripted quality of these events seemed as formally predictable as an 1856 minstrel show, and the parallel is worth reflecting on because the nation appears determined to explode again in some kind of a civil war — bearing in mind Karl Marx’s advisory that “history repeats, first as tragedy, then farce.” As is the case with many show-biz extravaganza’s of our time the script had many authors.

First were the cable TV news venues, led by the race hustlers at CNN, whose limitless pandering to the intemperance of black viewers played a large part in cultivating the mood of injustice that failed to square with the objective reality of Michael Brown’s shooting at the hands of policeman Darren Wilson. Every conceivable delusion generated by the event was nurtured to the max in order to amp up the melodrama at the expense of clarifying what had happened. In the end, CNN celebrities Don Lemon and Anderson Cooper got the explosion of violence that their producers had worked so hard to fuel.

Next were the professional black race hustlers such as the Reverend Al Sharpton, now an MSNBC anchor! It seems generally forgotten that Sharpton fomented the 1988 Tawana Brawley rape farce that occupied the nation’s attention for a good year before all the allegations unwound into a limp skein of falsehoods, and Sharpton along with his race hustler lawyer sidekicks, Alton H. Maddox and Vernon Mason, were found liable for making defamatory claims against a Dutchess County (New York) Assistant District Attorney (alleged to be among several Brawley rapists). Now, 25 years later, a new crop of race hustlers has come along such as Brown family lawyer Benjamin Crump, who previously worked for Trayvon Martin’s family in the 2012 Florida case. In Act 3 of the Ferguson soap opera, you can be sure Crump will be trolling the “deep pockets” of Missouri for a “settlement.”

Next are the two idiots on The New York Times op-ed page: Nicholas Kristoff and Charles M. Blow. Kristoff, in his latest installment of racial self-mystification — When Whites Just Don’t Get It, Part 5 — proposes a “national commission” to study America’s race troubles. Wow, what an original idea! Commissions are so darn effective, don’t you think? Mr. Blow repeatedly makes the point that Americans are not willing to have an honest debate about racial issues. That is true largely because public figures such as Mr. Blow will instantly label as “racist” any idea or opinion that contradicts their own pleadings. Is disproportionate black crime a problem? “Racist!” Don’t go there.

A week after the grand jury decision and the riot that followed, the Michael Brown incident is already disappearing down the national memory hole. Why? Mainly because anyway you cut it Michael Brown was a poor candidate for martyrdom. The generous view of his fate is that he made a series of very poor choices one summer’s day. So now CNN is shopping for a replacement. As of Sunday night, they seemed to have settled on 12-year-old Tamir Rice, who was shot while brandishing a BB gun in Cleveland, Ohio. The media insist on calling it “a toy gun,” though photos depict a BB gun obviously designed to look like a regular automatic pistol. Poor Tamir Rice was foolishly acting out a childish mime show, pretending to shoot at passers-by. Someone in the neighborhood might have advised him that this was a good way to get himself shot. But no one did. Now, why was that?

Ferguson isn't about race even though race hustlers and racists would like to claim that it is.

Officer Wilson should have recognized that he was in over his head when he reached for his gun.  He should have disengaged, called for back-up and then 4 or 5 police officers could have dealt with Michael Brown without anyone dying.

But he didn't.  Either Officer Wilson used bad judgment or he was trained incorrectly.  I fear the latter is the case and that we have a nation full of Officer Wilsons.

No. We have a'hood full of Michale Brown's, rather than a nation of Officer Wilson. get that staright dickhead. When someone is homocidal enough to punch a cop sitting in his car, battle for the cop's gun in the car (get shot in the thumb), then flee ... then stop and charge the cop... all within 90 seconds or so....

And your pathetic, self loathing advice is thast the Offcier should have known he was i over his head...and to call for back up? You sorry, self absorbed fuckin' piece of shit.

don't forget the 'fact' he was a demon, stronger than hulk hogan, with staring scary eyes and grunting fury who could 'bulk up' and charge through a mass of bullets, and had 2 horns literally growing out of his head. (OK, I made up the bit about the horns, but really, go read Wilson's testimony, try it, you know, reading it, and you will see that my little add on fits with Wilson's 'story' almost perfectly)

if you read it, you would know that's exactly what it said. Wilson felt like a little kid. Felt like he was wrestling Hulk Hogan, and that brown 'bulked up' and charged and was looking straight through Wilson. That Brown had the look of a demon.

But it's easy to see when you try and refute the actual recorded testimony that you haven't read it, so you are arguing in ignorance.

So you fail.

What you have to love about this 'story' is that there are clearly TWO DIFFERENT sequences of events circulating.

One is firmly of the belief that a innocent little kid was holding up his hands, saying "don't shoot" while an officer rashly gunned him down.

The other is a story of a thug, who was in the grooming stage of becoming a gangster, used to using intimidation, violence, physical force to get his way.  Hmmm.....

A man and his wife, both Caucasian, were driving their vehicle in South St. Louis on Sunday when several juveniles came up on foot and began to strike the car. The man got out of his car and the four suspects began yelling at him and hitting him with hammers.  After the assault, the four ran away. The man, identified as Zemir Begic, 32, was struck on the head, face, mouth, and abdomen. He was taken to a hospital where he died of his injuries. The juveniles fled the scene, but two were caught and taken into juvenile custody, the station said; no physical description of the two teens in custody was reported. Police are still searching for two others, a 16-year-old black male and a 15-year-old Hispanic.

Meanwhile, MSNBC host and National Action Network's Reverend Al Sharpton tweeted that he would be attending the White House meetings on Ferguson and law enforcement that President Barack Obama is hosting. Sharpton met with the Brown family in Ferguson and reported directly to White House senior adviser Valerie Jarrett. According to Politico, Sharpton was instructed by the administration to seek out specific information, including what the Brown family wanted from the White House.

The officer had plenty of time to evaluate his options before he engaged.  The evaluation should have included "can I handle a 6'4" 300 pound man".   The obvious answer was "no" and no intelligent officer is going to engage in one on one combat when 4 or 5 officers are a call away.  Mistake one.

How did Brown get his hand on the gun?  The officer pulled his gun  instead of backing his unit up.  Mistake two.

After firing his gun the officer quickly had the upper hand, but proceeded to fire several more bullets needlessly killing the suspect.  Mistake three.

So the question remains; bad judgment or bad training?

As for your other comments, feel free to share them with a public audience.  You won't have any credibility at all.

You stupid fuck.

Your lists of "mistakes" are simply made up in your inflated sense of self. It is obvuious you have no experience in any of which you armchair dissect above... you weak fucking piece of shit.

Just to illustate ...simply what a stupid fuckwit you are.... the officer's job is to police. That is to address the situation directly. Wilson had already called the situation in beforwe he took action that was his responsibility.

"Can I handle"...? what a stupid fuckln question... you lily livered peice of shit. You are trained to handle it... not ask "Can I ". Officer Wilson handled it, and handled it well given the eye wirness testimony.

Now.. if Micha Brown went on his merry way bacause Officer Wilson though like you (you pussified peice of shit), and the wenton to hutr, rob, streal,...perhaps kill another citizen... Offcier Wilson would have rightly been accused of NOT fulfilling his responsibilities.

You fucking self absorbed pussy... get out into the streets and take a hit.

Mistake one: becoming a police officer in a city filled with black thugs. Mistake number two: living in the USSA where a corrupt Marxist president and his black racist Attorney General will exploit racial situations to advance their radical leftist agenda and deflect the public's attention from real issues.

Ferguson was 75%+ white 10 years ago.  How it changed so rapidly is an interesting topic, but not necessarily relevant here.

Both sides of the issue have tried to avoid the truth, because neither side comes out "clean".  This President's actions regarding race have been reprehensible.

You don't know what you are talking about, the evidence, coroborated by the forensics team hired by the Brown family, is that the thug tried to take wilson;s gun in the initial encounter, he had gun burns on his hands, the only time he was close enough for that to happen was when wilson dischraged his weapon insde the car. there is no disengagment at that point. the cop has to defend himself and shoot his attacker or let the thug take his weapon and kill him, Brown took the situation beyond the point of no return  within seconds of the stop.

There won't BE voters.   Do you think the DHS ordered 2700 armored vehicles and 2 billion rounds of hollow point ammo for shits and giggles?   Why do you think there are FEMA camps all over the rail way system in the US.   Why is there a FEMA camp in the middle of NOWHERE Alaska capable of holding half a million people?   Are there even half a million Alaskans?  Why are US military training with Chinese and Russian troops here on US soil while both nations have opnely and publicly threatened to nuke us in the past 6 months?  Wake up to reality dude.  They are tightening the noose that is already around your neck that you can't see.

Okay, to address your points:

Ammo:  Yes, they did order it for shits and giggles.  They ordered it because they needed more federal debt so the FED could buy more treasuries.

FEMA camps:  They might have them, but sure as shit people will be more apt to try and break IN them than OUT of them. See NO during Katrina.

Haven't seen anything about training any scale of troops on our soil. Certainly not enough to undertake the disappearance of millions of amerikans.

Have not seen where anyone from either the Chinese or Russian governments have threatened to nuke us in the last six months, but again, that might go against their soldiers working alongside ours to corral up us into FEMA camps.

Everything you have listed is called a contingency plan.  A situation where you have to plan for outliers.

I try to keep up with what might really be going on, but all I am seeing is a government desperate to keep debt expanding any way it can.

Could they be doing all of this to get me?  Sure.  Is it something I can plan for?  Nope.

So I live life.

"There won't BE voters"

And why is that? The american people have proven themselves to be very dependable. They can be depended on to keep voting for the same shit, no matter what is done to them. They may swing back to a republican president next time, and he will do the EXACT SAME SHIT as obama is doing, just like obama does the same shit bush did before him. I know, obamacare, blah blah blah, but that is nothing, IMO, compared to the erosion of civil liberties, and the continued destruction of our eceonomy. There is no need to suspend elections or declare marshal law since people basically impose it on themselves by continuing to make the false choice between rd and blue every 4 years. our rulers can get what they want with the 'soft' marshal law we have now, so why bother risking an insurrection when they get what they want without it?

Give me a break. It doesn't matter who's in the white house, they all take orders from the heads of oligarch families & international bankers. It wouldn't matter if Obama was dictator forever or the US elected a Republican for the next 20 years, nothing would change in any serious fashion. Sure they may lay off the nation wide gun control & maybe repeal the ACA, but the Fed will still control the monetary system & people will still be serfs & slaves to benefit the few at the top.

Divide et impera  - keep the people divided so that can't organize to fight the real enemy

problem-reaction-solution - social engineering of various world events relayed in a specific narrative to further an agenda with a predictable reaction. Then offer the preconcieved "solution" to the manufactured "problem" that only benefits those in power (i.e.: ultra-wealthy, politicians & those appointed to the "priest class" who act as the intermediary between commoners & those who rule by "divine right"). Which is the equivelent of begging for a yoke (or noose, your choice) around their necks, or rather at this stage, to tighten the yoke (noose) already there.

It does matter who is in the White House. Wall Street, TBTF bankers, international corporatists, and big tech installed Barry the Marxist into the WH with the understanding that he would be able to institute his radical leftist agenda and his income redistribution from the middle class to lower classes as long as he and his attorney general didn't interfer with their activities--or prosecute any bankers in the case of the TBTF banks.

Republicans are just as responsible for this as democrats. Ferguson was a referendum on the police state. Is it acceptable for a police officer to act as judge, jury and executioner in the shooting death an unarmed man, twice in the chest, then after he falls to his knees, four times in the abdomen? It is that simple. It is also dismaying in that the answer to the question seems to be yes, it is acceptable to most Americans. Does it really matter that he was not a choir boy? The racial issues are a distraction away from the fact that police have a license to kill in the USSA.

I'm note sure why you are getting thumbs down because you are 100% right.  Crimes against police are at record lows while murderers committed by cops are at a record high, and we all know what happens.  The officer gets a 6 week paid vacation until he is cleared of all wrong doing before he is allowed to go kill some more.  I have no earthly clue why the sub-Saharans picked this particular piece of garbage to rally around because there are numerous incidents of truly innocent people being murdered in cold blood daily by police.  Hell, they won't even PROTECT you any more.   Their OWN STATED MISSION is officer safety first meaning they are there to collect evidence and haul away your body after you've been killed.   Watch the video at Ferguson with the cops standing around checking their pension values while looters were in the background doing what they do.   So why dowe even NEED the police if they stand by and watch people burn shit to the ground?   Fire them all, and give all citizens guns.   Let them sort things out.

People who are not in the least libertarian or concerned with a critique of the dominant economics paradigm.

People who think the US and Israel is never wrong, can't imagine any narrative but what they hear on CNN and in the NYT, and pretend to care about civil liberties but have no problem with increasingly militarized police, and the neocon, interventionist foreign policy which has been so wonderful over the past 13 years of squandered blood and treasure.

You're getting your groups mixed up.

There's a reason CNN has a tenth of the viewership - or less - of Fox News. Because, in general, conservatives & libertarians* don't bother wasting time watching the pointless Communist News Network**.

Same with the NYT. Hear how fabulously well the NYT's business is doing right now? No?

You say that "right wing 'conservative' types.." "can't imagine any narrative but what they hear on CNN and in the NYT.." -- my point being, "right wing 'conservative' types" don't bother watching or reading such drivel.

* Ok, not just those two groups. I guess it's safe to say pretty much no one with at least a 3-digit I.Q. pays any attention to CNN.

** Yes, yes, I know they're not -really- 'communist'. That title acts to help call attention to their obvious bias.

it should have gone to trial, where I'd expect there to be a not guilty verdict and riots anyway, but when you have a cop firing 12 times at an unarmed person, from yards away, including at least one shot to the crown of the head...  yeah, that should go to a full trial, even though it's clear that reasonable doubt exists, and it's most likely the cop believed he was free to make that street a free fire zone until an unarmed teen 30 or 40 yards away wasn't moving at all - which strikes me, anyway, as fucking absurd, but probably standard op procedure and not a criminal act.

You just have to look at the physical evidence... (shots were fired from inside the car, at close range).  Brown's blood inside the car and on the officer.  Other physical evidence of Brown's hands in close proximity to the gun.  Blood further away from the car than where Brown fell upon his death.

People can cry and whine all they want but at some point you're going to have to grow up and accept that Brown isn't the martyr you're looking for and you can only fabricate so many unsubstantiated emotions over this situation.  The frustration and anger that has driven people to violence has roots stemming from other areas of the impoverished, depressed poor communities - not with the criminal who got shot and killed on that day.  You're being led astry by others who want you to project your anger onto the officer and/or the police and/or the government and/or ??? - but that's simply agents guiding those who can't think for themselves to their agenda.

Imagine for a moment I know more about criminal cases and evidence than the average bear, and just imagine that I'm also smarter than the average person sitting home assuming the white cop 'did it.'

In your missive above, you're evidently assuming all sorts of things about me not in evidence....

That's the point - assumptions.  The blood in the car could have been planted.  The radio squawks released by Anonymous don't prove anything but certainly raise questions.

You have some sort of wrestling match for the gun in the car, and a total of 10 shots fired - none of the shots that hit brown were from close range and his body was several yards from the cruiser - I'm not sure how many to be honest, off the top - but the indication is of someone moving away from the fired weapon, and hit 6 times, including once on the top of his head.

If the shooter isn't a cop, you don't think this goes to a full trial?

It should have gone to trial where the cop would likely be found not guilty.

Plenty of reasonable doubt, but also plenty of probable cause to find a crime may have been committed.  A grand jury is not the same thing, at all, as a trial, where much more, and much better evidence and cross would have gone on.

I know the "anti-nigger" cop-worship shit is strong here at ZH, but many of you fucking idiots seem to resist the idea of putting cops on trial in circumstances where anyone else would go to trial.

And that makes you for blue privilege, and security state apostles, and really - part of the problem.

blood in the vehicle indicates brown was close to the vehicle. There was a struggle betwen Brown and Wilson. The only 'evidence' that Brown was trying to take the gun was Wilson's testimony.

If only there were other evidence like testing Wilsons guns for fingerprints which would prove beyone a shadow of a doubt that at the least Brown had his hand on the gun.........But OH NOES! the police FORGOT to test his gun for fingerprints. How unfortunate.

and yes, plus a million, and I can't see anyone disagreeing with your statement:

+100.

Not testing for prints could be a fuck up, for sure, but is also shitty evidence gathering.  The blood could easily have been put there after the fact.

And if he's in the car, fighting, how does his body end up yards away, after "charging toward" the cop with 3 or 4 bullets in him?

I mean, there are people here who prove their fucking case by assuming that all testimony supporting the cop's story is 'true.'  But the whole point is not to assume, ahead of time, what's true and what is not.

Jonathan,

Let's put this in perspective.  Of COURSE this COULD have gone many ways.  However key elements to think about.

  1. The officer's version of events is supported by the evidence at the crime scene.
  2. Mike Brown just robbed a store, on video.
  3. There are numerous reports that corroborate the officer's story.

These three alone should give pause to anyone who thinks the cop is "automatically guilty".  But let's just go with the first two for a moment.

What are the chances, a "crooked cop" would shoot Mike Bown on this day, OF ALL DAYS.

What are the chances Mike Brown would suddenly be a model citizen 15 minutes after robbing a store?

Seriously, take off the anti-white racist hat and think objectively for a moment.

It's evidence, it certainly doesn't "prove" it.  The blood could have been supplied after the fact to back up the cops story.

None of the bullet wounds showed burns consistent with close proximity firing.

None.

It helps to have some awareness of the ways in which cops have fabricated evidence in police misconduct [42 usc 1983] cases.

I suppose if you don't think cops lie, or make up evidence, or pressure witnesses - you end up with the consensus position of the non-cop, non-lawyer fucking experts here.

we're arguing the same side of the coin. I don't know if the blood was planted or not. I haven't read through all the forensic testimony. I was under the impression that the shot in Brown's hand had some residue that indicated it was from being close to the shot.

What really gets me is Wilson's testimony. It seems to me to be prewritten, not just for the GJ but for the sure to follow civil case.

One very specific piece of the testimony is that Wilson is sure the Brown ran away, then stopped for no reason, turned around and bulked up for a charge. That's when Wilson let out his first volley, paused to assess the situation then fired again.

Whereas witnesses say that Wilson fired at Brown as he was running away, then stopped and turned around.

To me this difference is HUGE because if Brown was running away at the time, Wilson had no right to fire at Brown and is slam dunk guilty.

Hey Spanky, give it up.  Just give it up...  I shall call this the Idiot Statement of the Day...

Jonathan HorseAss said: "None of the bullet wounds showed burns consistent with close proximity firing.

Here's a little clip based on fact, not your mouthbreather nonsense....

The ME found a tangential injury on Brown’s right thumb that traveled along the surface of the thumb — grand jury testimony Volume 3 (Sept. 9), page 114, line 12 etc. (hereafter cited by just page and line number).  The ME further explained that he saw what appeared to be “soot” in the wound, which was consistent with a shot from close range (116:22).  Indeed, based on his training and expertise, the ME thought that the soot would be indicative of the gun that fired the bullet causing the wound having been only 6 to 9 inches away (118:12). The soot was consistent with that discharged from a gun (122:13).  The official report from the Office of Medical Examiner later confirmed that “the previously described particles of foreign particulate matter are consistent with products that are discharged from the barrel of a firearm.”

The significance of this wound and related physical evidence is that it places Brown’s right hand within 6 to 9 inches of the barrel of Wilson’s firearm.  This physical evidence is thus quite consistent with Wilson’s testimony that Brown was trying to get hold of Wilson’s weapon, creating a fear in Wilson that he was going to get shot.  It also creates a problem for those who view Brown as having been somehow accosted by Wilson and was just trying to escape.  At least in the theories that I have seen sketched out, no explanation is offered for why Brown (who weighed around 300 pounds) had been forced by Wilson to have his right hand in a position where it was close to the gun  and inside Wilson’s police car.

my favorite is how the ADA is explaining to the Jurors their role. As one juror noted they felt it was their job to find the truth in what happened and then come up with a judgement.

And the one thing that Sheila has explained as far as what you must find and as she said, it is kind of in Missouri it is kind of, the State has to prove in a criminal trial, the State has to prove that the person did not act in lawful self-defense or did not use lawful force in making, it is kind of like we have to prove the negative.

So in this case because we are talking about probable cause, as we've discussed, you must find probable cause to believe that he committed the offense that you're considering and you must find probable cause to believe that he did not act in lawful self-defense. Not that he did, but that he did not and that you find probable cause to believe that he did not use lawful force in making the arrest.

That's exactly what they did. They weighed the testimony that supported Wilson's actions against those that didn't and came to the judgement that the weight of Wison's testimony, evidence provided, and corroborating witnesses outweighed the other eyewitness accounts. The judgement was in favour of Wilson.

I know exactly what a Grand Jury is SUPPOSED to do. But that's another story isn't it?

Mongoloid language is what Google translate(tm) does best. I didn't know Nigerian was so polite though.

Discussed this topic at Thanksgiving with extended family members (they are not awake).  When I asked them to describe the facts of the shooting, or the witness descriptions, no one could offer any except for the alleged "hands up, don't shoot" line played by the media.  Source information is nearly invisible in the media - you need to really seach to find documents presented to Grand Jury and then you get completely different view of the events.  Pathetic.

I didn't care about Ferguson when it first came up.  I didn't care about it as the MSM was clearly building it into the next big made-for-cable manufactured story.  And I sure as hell don't care about it now.  It can't fade from the news fast enough for my liking.

"Grand Jury Investigation" rings loudly of due process and justice doesn't it?

It must be all about a probing search for truth, right?

What a sad joke playing upon the ignorance of the public:

Reminds me of the FISA Court as well.  Here the interests of "the people" are also represented solely by conflicted agents of the government.  There's a damn good reason Assange remains in the Ecuadorian Embassy.

A welfare-dependent population turns into a criminal population.  Everybody knows it, yet the bleeding heart half of the country can't seem to stop itself from giving more and more.  Just wait until the same thing happens to the newly imported hispanic population, and then white folks will have to live and work in security compounds.

For whatever reason...you got downvoted by some folks.

I can guess who they are.  Gruber spoke of them eoloquently and often.

One thing I can tell you about who they are NOT.....they have never lived in a place where liberalism took root, festered and grew like the cancer it is.....and destroyed everything it touched.

I saw this firsthand.  It is so basic, so simple, so obvious, that to not acknowledge the causes is an act of denial or possibly brain damage, perhaps due to drugs.

Whatever......fully half the nation has officialy gone full tard.

Thank you public "education".

Thank you liberal propaganda disguised as "media".

You cannot reason with these idiots. They cannot think.  Or won't.  At all.

Ask Gruber. He will tell you.

So you just move away from them, and let them rot in their own homemade liberal stew.

That's what I did.

Gruber really did throw it in publics faces.  Especially the Dems, after all they are the ones that had to be fooled into supporting it to vote for it as the Republicans didn't vote for it.  Now after we have that news out you would think the Dems would be out raged at being purposly lied to by Obama.  But saddly the Propaganda machine known as media has kept it quiet and the street Dems think that it was the Republicans that were tricked so they think they pulled one over on the Republicans.  They are really brain dead and the Republican leadership is obvously comprimised since they are not calling for impeachment for that or any of the other criminial behavior from this administration.  The public is truely stupid as Gruber stated.

darian johnson should be charged with a hate crime.  he started all the rumor after the fact around the dead body about hands in the air, execution, shot in the back.   browns own forensics eliminated shot in the back.  witness 10 backed up the cop 100% and said the crowd turned on him when he tried stop the hands in the air rumor.  and my darian johnson admitted the hands were NOT in the air and there was a fight in car prior to the shooting.  funny what a perjury charge can do to one memory.  read the grand jury testimony.   its a shit show.  watch darian johnson still try to act like it was hate crime, though he thoroughly changed his broadcast on al sharpton tv show race baitng story.

and most all of america sees right through this travesty as an attempt to start a race war.  why?   because poor, impoverished humans don't have anything to lose and are bored and just want some action.   maybe they steal some gold, because they sure won't earn any.
