Accident Took Place At Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant, Prime Minister Reveals

Tyler Durden's picture

Several days ago we heard rumors, unsubstantiated, of an accident at Ukraine's Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, Europe's largest and the 5th biggest in the world. Considering Ukraine's history with nuclear accidents, and resultant panics, we decided it would be prudent to wait for an official confirmation before proceeding with a report. We got the confirmation about an hour ago, when Ukraine's new/old Prime Minister Arseny Yatseniuk, or "Yats" as his puppetmaster Victoria Nuland likes to call him, said "on Wednesday an accident had occurred at the Zaporizhye nuclear power plant (NPP) in south-east Ukraine and called on the energy minister to hold a news conference."

A "minor" accident that is, which remains a rather nebulous term on the continuum of nuclear power plant "malfunctions." So minor, in fact, the PM waited almost a week before revealing it to the world.

From Reuters:

"I know that an accident has occurred at the Zaporizhye NPP," Yatseniuk said, asking new energy minister Volodymyr Demchyshyn to make clear when the problem would be resolved and what steps would be taken to restore normal power supply across Ukraine.

News agency Interfax Ukraine said the problem had occurred at bloc No 3 - a 1,000-megawatt reactor - and the resulting lack of output had worsened the power crisis in the country. Interfax added that the bloc was expected to come back on stream on Dec. 5.

Just like Fukushima is expected to come back on line in a few years ago.

So is this just another Chernobyl? According to Ukraine, "the radioactive meltdown is contained." RT has more:

"There is no threat ... there are no problems with the reactors," Ukraine's Energy Minister Volodymyr Demchyshyn said at briefing, adding the accident affected the power output system and "in no way" was linked to power production itself.

The incident was not made public until Wednesday, when PM Yatsenyuk asked the energy minister to report on what happened and how the ministry is handling the situation.

The accident left several dozen towns and villages without electricity, Russian media reported, citing local officials.

Of course, there is no way to actually know what is happening on the ground as the NPP is located close enough to the "fog of war", that its status, and updates thereof, could merely be part of the fog of war. That said, if there is an unspoken message here by Ukraine, which recently handed over its gold to unknown "Western" interests, and suddenly feels neglected by its western allies (as its central bank head is about to find out personally), it is targeted directly at the IMF: "hand over more loans, or the nuclear power plant gets it."

Why is it so difficult to see what nuclear power plants really are? Nuclear power plants are nothing more than stationary nuclear bombs and the most obvious avenue to the end of life on this earth.

There's one more angle:

Russia recently signed some deals to build nuclear plants in Iran and Turkey. This might be a reminder that Russian technology is "risky" (in which case there was probably no real accident).

Um, no. These people are TERRIFIED by the name of Jesus Christ. On nowtheendbegins.com there is a very telling clip from Communist News Network (CNN) in which Benjamin Watson, a black Christian football player, is railing against the melee in Ferguson. He says change must come from within and the "salvation of Jesus Christ" then BOOM, he's cut off! Technical difficulties? Sure it was. Why do you think they have tried so desperately to remove God from everything? But it's only the Christian God, isn't it? Allah, Buddah, Krishna, and Money are all acceptible objects of worship. Why are we funding and arming the muslim fanatics who are butchering Christians in Africa and the ME? "Aw, we lost him" says the newsreader. We will see who is lost and who is found.

Yeah, and it was all them medical doctors that caused people to shoot each other.  You really need a little education.  The printing press was invented a long time ago.  Bibles are now freely accessible (if you live in the right part of the world).

(Perhaps that doctor thing was a bad analogy.  Who prescribed the SSRIs?  Okay, it was the mechanic that caused your car to break down.  No, that doesn't work either.  All that clothing you bought made you naked?  That might work.)

Forget all them Martial Arts lessons.  Nothing like telling people to reject materialism and be nice to each other to raise the deadliest army in the world.  Either that last sentence is true or it is false.  Please consider the ramifications of both instances.

No doubt this power issue can be contained alot better once they isolate Eastern Ukraine from the system, just like they did in the last couple of weeks in the banking sector which left pensioners and people in the East unable to abstract cash from the banks to pay for food and utilities.

No doubt this is a ploy to weaken the East, getting ready for a final push, supported by the recent military provided by the US.

This is what Putin is preparing for, an attemped last ditch land grab by the West

Come on, there is a nuclear plant accident in neo-nazi Ukraine and some here are blaming the Jews/Zionists? Seriously, how fucked-up in the head are those?

The only truth here is that nuclear power is unsafe in the midst of political circuses, as it needs daily serious, dedicated surveillance and maintenance. Not the forte of failed, corrupt countries where politicians are at each other's throats to get a piece of the cake while every regulating organism goes down the drain and the country collapses.

Yep, Clean, Safe, Green, nuclear,  power. Tree huggers love it like the second coming... almost like solar panels which take mucho petroleum and far more power to manufacter them AND their associated necessary equipment than you will ever get out of them. Then there's ethanol, biofuel and the rest of earth saving garbage.... Okay, I'm winging off but it's all BS.

This is not good news and a reason the world would be better with a stable Ukraine. The idea of America getting involved or jumping into a war in Ukraine would have been hard to imagine a few years ago. As I write this the potential for this to escalate into a major shooting war is real. Allowing events to deteriorate into a major war or possibly into what some see as World War III is becoming a reality.

As insane as it appears this could become the final outcome. The location of this as a military confrontation is right in Putin's backyard and this is a strong advantage for Russia. It is silly to think Putin and Russia will back down. This means poking the bear is not a smart move. More on this subject in the article below.

This is a Russian-designed nuclear power plant, and Ukraine cannot operate its nuclear plants in the long term without Russian fuel and technical assistance. Ukraine has, or once had, an agreement with Russia on nuclear power. Another reason why it was a bad idea for Ukraine to kick Russia.

So what's a bit more radioactive waste in the Donbass. The Ukrainian military is using old Soviet era tanks from the abandoned bases around Chernobyl. Here is a You tube video where one is checked and its sending the radiation meter off the scale:

UA troops receive old tanks from Chernobyl zone

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vbe5IDcWbM4

There is also sites in the Donbass where Chernobyl radioactive waste has been buried and the Ukie Army has being trying to expose it using ballistic missiles.

I'm sure if the Ukie soldiers knew they were being radiated they'd probably be a bit pissed off with Porky and crew.

These are the same reactors that the openly NaZi Right Sector thugs legally took control of this past summer, after a failed attempt to storm them in May.  A well-timed meltdown could result in a plume that would pass directly across the breakaway provences of the Donbass almost directly to the east, and on into Russia, perhaps forcing the evacuation of Rostov-on-Don, population 1 million.

For example, from

"Ukrainian nuclear plant vulnerable to Kiev’s artillery strikes – Greenpeace expert"

 RT, August 31, 2014

"In May, Ukrainian police prevented a group of armed men from entering Europe's largest nuclear power plant. The men said they were members of the Right Sector group, though their intensions remained vague.  Now Right Sector, which praises neo-Nazi ideology, does not need to break into a nuclear power plant. The National Guard, whose core includes Right Sector members, has been assigned by Kiev to guard all country’s nuclear objects, nuclear fuel and nuclear waste, along with national missile and space booster production.

"A law enabling the National Guard to protect nuclear energy industry facilities and other security-sensitive installations was published on Kiev government’s official website on August 13."

http://rt.com/news/184004-greenpeace-zaporizhia-npp-danger/

Yeah, yeah I know someone will do their duty and reply that we can't believe what we see on RT.  But I saw this in other places at the time as well.

Due to the lack of Coal and Gas the Nuclear power plants are probably running at above their capacity (110%) due to the cold winter. Pushing power station into the red for long periods of time "accidents" as sure to happen.

Russian can now play the "Ukraine" plays with everyone’s life/health when they do not pay for their gas for heating etc.

Will Europe send the necessary Coal for these plants or Blame Russian for this tragedy?
