Regarding Ferguson, I support the cop: if you read the Grand Jury evidence, his account is supported by it all. Those protestors, protesting out of ignorance, bother me a great deal. They are anarchists, or racist, or just idiots.
The case of Garner in NYC is altogether different; in this case, the thug appears clearly to be the cop(s), and at least the guy with the chokehold should have been indicted, IMO. I'm with the protestors on this one.
Every group has its problem members, and even groups that we normally attach high status to - doctors, judges, and cops for example, are no different.
The problem is, depending on who you are and what group you are with, determines what "justice" gets meted out, or doesn't. Celebrities usually walk free. I can't recall the last time a Senator went to jail.

Wilson's account is not supported by a lot of the evidence. Check out where the shell casings were recovered and try to reconcile that with his story of firing twice from inside his vehicle and racking his gun to clear the chamber from a misfire. Why did he have no injuries after being beat on by the hulk? If he couldn't take the time from fending off the beating from Brown to get his pepper spray why could he take the time off to rack his gun? There is a lot of things that, if he were not a cop, the prosecutor would have grilled him on and he couldn't answer.
Even I can arrest an unarmed person without 6 bullets to the head and body. No excuse to an inept or criminal or both policeman.
I'd like to see you single handedly arrest a 6'4", 292 lb individual who is belligerent. Good luck with that.
But your comment is a non-sequitur anyway. This is not about an arrest. We clearly have a case where Brown tried to wrestle the gun from Wilson. That does not warrant killing him after the fact, but it does set the tone of the encounter. And there were eyewitnesses who said Brown charged Wilson. Those that said Brown did not have been thoroughly discredited.
I don't think I would have any problem at all arresting Brown.
If Wilson feared for his life then why did he not roll up his window and drive a safe distance and call for backup ? He could have easily defused the situation, instead he chose to kill someone in the middle of the street, middle of the day. Wilson gets a complete fail in my book.
Brown grabbed the gun. Was it in defense because a bedwetting cop stuck it in his face and threatened him? There is no "evidence" other than Wilson's testimony that answers the question. The tone of the encounter was established when Wilson rolled up and told them to get the fuck on the sidewalk and then slammed his car in reverse and backed up to block them almost hitting them. So close to Brown he couldn't open the door though he did try to hit Brown with it. Your idea of "thoroughly discredited" is amusing. People who eere being wuestioned and said things damning of Wilson were immediartely interrupted by police or FBI and threatened with perjury if they lied. Wilson wasn't challenged with anything and anyone supporting him was accepted at face value. Try to explain how Wilson's blood was mixed with Brown's when the medical report said that Wilson had no cuts, lacerations or bleeding.

The Newsweek article is quite biased, as I would expect from Pema Levy. As for the evidence in your first link, that is not so conclusive. You should drill down into the original source material rather than take the reinterpretation of the Daily Kos, a site of extreme liberal bias, and read some comments on that. For one thing, it is not possible to say that the shooter did not move, with only one source recording. Sorry, but if the shooter moved parallel to the reflecting building, that would not been seen in the delays between primary shots and reflections. And the source of the recording, is unknown.

The government in Iceland have been trying to arm the police by buing 250 MP5 machine guns, this was supposed to be a adition to Glock guns, MP5 and MG3 machine guns already recently imported.
This was supposed to be imported secretly, but some how this info leaked out and customs seized the gun shipment because of false iformation in the paperwork.
The guns will be returned to Norway where they came from. It looks like the elites in Iceland are expecting some trouble in the near future.
How can you criticise Iceland? At least they jail their bankers.

When information about the gun import was released in the media the authorities said that the guns were a gift from Norway. There were some doubts about that, it was not easy to see why Norway would be giving machine guns away for no reason.
Some one pitched the idea that it could be a compensation because Norway had not sent us the traditional Oslo Christmas tree this year, after getting offended when one was burned down in the so called pots and pans revolution in 2009.
As it turned out, when the Norwegians were asked, they showed a signed contract for the weapons purchase and fully intended to be paid. Then the customs seized the gun shipment because the paperwork indicated that the guns were a gift, so the shipment was put under lock and key and will remain there until it is shipped back to Norway.

Even though it had been decided that Iceland would not get a Christmas tree form Oslo this year it came anyway and was lit last Saturday.
On Sunday, this storm came and turned the tree into firewood.

There were some attempts to "save" the banks in the first few days after the economy crashed, but it was obviously hopeless and probably not even a good idea to try to save something that was so rotten and discusting.
Those rescue attempts did cost us the central bank currency reserves, promting the govt to apply for a loan from the IMF.
Only a small part of those loans to the banks have been recovered.
On the other hand there have been some corrections made regarding public, like loans in foreign currency lent by the banks to individuals and companies. Those loan were found to be illegal and corrected accordingly.

This plan has already gone trough parliament, it will be paid for by a special bank tax that has already been implemented and is already being paid by the banks.
This was a election promise form the Progressive party. That party had a near death experience in the elections shortly after the crash and would have expired completely in the last elections if they would not have made this promise.
Usually in politics the parties make promises before elections and after elections a coalition is created between 2 or more parties. During negotiations to align different views between parties on key matters all those promises are usually negotiated away. Leaving the owners of the political groups, the oligarchs, with a mandate to do what ever the hell they want.
But this time the promise was kept. Despite of that i would not have many compliments for the current govt. I suppose they realize that all the things they do while in office will be revived in the next elections.
The former govt did a far better job than the current one has done so far, the former PM Johanna Sigurdardottir was probably the best PM Iceland has ever had.
The current prime minister needs to step up his game, he has big shoes to fill.

A story I read was that, before the American Revolutionary War, Ben Franklin visited England, where they gave him an honorary PhD for inventing the lightning rod and giving it, patent-free, to the world. Franklin was appalled by the high unemployment, poverty, and misery of the English lower classes. When he addressed some group of very powerful people, he was asked if things were different in the colonies. He replied that there was very little unemployment or poverty. They asked how the colonies could be so well off, when the British pound was in a contraction. Franklin replied that colonists simply wrote each other notes, and everyone honored those notes. So a baker could sell a carpenter some bread, and the carpenter could give the baker a note, and then the baker could pay for eggs with that note, and the egg-farmer could then ask the carpenter to build something for him, and the carpenter would. Apparently, this "let the cat out of the bag", and Parliament immediately began passing laws like "the stamp tax" which regulated all the commerce in the colonies and prevented the colonists from using their own notes (money). This greatly increased unemployment and poverty, which resulted in many colonists signing up to join the Revolutionary Army.
I think I got the story mostly right. It was an AHA moment for me. Controlling the money is how you control the people. And you can alternately expand and contract the money, and then put on your angelic face and pretend you have no idea that each wave is moving more of the lower classes into poverty and misery while it funds your upgrading of your manor house or pays for your hunting expedition.
The Icelandic economy has recovered incredibly fast from the ruin it was after 2008. The currency reserves at the central bank were depleted, the local currency took a huge dive in value and was no longer accepted anywhere outside of Iceland, the stock market was wiped out and all kinds of wolfs were circling Iceland.
The reason why we bounced back so quickly was a combination of determination from the people, some outside help and luck.
For some reason all the Mackerel in the northern Atlantic decided to move to Iceland, this is a type of fish that had never been seen before in our waters, but now they are all over the place. This helped the fishing industry considerably.

Another key element is a enormous increase in tourism, it has grown so fast that it now generates more income than the fishing industry. Hardly any one talks about Aluminum smelters anymore who used to be the enterprises most pushed by the politicians.
The interesting thing about tourism is that the flow of money goes directly into the economy, it is difficult to herd it into the pockets of special friends.
So if you want a quick recovery in your economy, try to isolate politicians and bankers from it, at least until you can afford to have them bleeding your economy again without any major risks.

In my youth I was arrested quite a few times. Once for verbally threatening an adult man who ripped me off for a few c notes. I was handcuffed gorilla style, one arm over, behind the back. Thats illegal now. It was illegal then. I walked the next day, no charge. The guy who cheated me was dealt with, by the community who witnessed this travesty. But at no time have the cops found it necessary to stomp my ass sideways. When arrested, I comply. No matter what.

Even most lawyers (bag and waterboard one to get the troof out of the slimy things) advise their clients not to press charges, and when they do these lawyers all - all - all - sand bag and ditch the case badly.
Kill all litigious parasites. Defend yourself, outside the courts. The judges, senators, congresswhores are lawyers too. Fix your own problems. You have to, anyway.

"...tax was paid on the inital sale." Actually no, it wasn't. Part of the reason this "market" for "loosies" exists is the extraordinarily high tax rates on cigs in many communities. They are smuggled from locations with lower tax rates. Thus the aggressive response, it's a crime against the funding mechanism of the state (or city, as the case may be). Contrast the response when the crime is against the government, with crimes by one individual against another. How many murders were there in Chicago this year, and how many were solved, and how much tax revenue was lost? A lot, not very many, and less than none.
How much tax revenue do jaywalking and littering cost the government, not much. Crime heirarchy needs to be resorted.
Sales taxes transfer money from poor peasants to rich rulers. Rich rulers are always trying to increase sales taxes.
