California only exemption.
They become a "monk" at the temple, do some minimal amount of "work" at the temple, and then claim that their home is religious property exempt from property tax. In practice they just make a big donation to the temple and then the temple signs off on it.
The exemption was originally for pastor's quarters that were part of church property. It was somehow not fair to tax it so some types of non-religious property can be exempt if it meets other qualifications.

This article was run about a moth ago I think. I like ya Mike but I think twice is a bit much! This though is on ZH not you.
To focus, I wrote that the really, really big reason for the Chinease to come to Arcadia, California is probably due to the Fact that Arcadia is home to Santa Anita Race Track. After being in Macau several years ago and seeing the the Chinease in 3-4 deep in their passionate love of gambling I would think that would explain the settling this area.
I graduated from hige school school (John Muir) and Pasadena City College (Jr College) which is about 10-12 miles from Arcadia, Calif. Having spent more that a few dollars at this beautiful track.
While living there for several years I would also note there are several gaming cities in the nearby communities (many owned by Indian tribes including Palm Springs)
There is usually a pragmatic explanation for seemingly odd behavior though I am not saying that these other little festive reasons certainly would seem to be vey valid. Caio Milestones

I think the Clintons had a good relationship with Taiwan and not with the mainland. Remember the P-3 Orion incident and when China was lobbing rockets at Taiwan, Bill sent in an aircraft carrier to keep the peace. Recent Democratic Presidents (Obama and Clinton) typically had a bad relationship with Republican Presidents especially Nixon had a better relationship with China.
USD is just vouchers for buying shit in the US. That's it, nothing more. All the USD overseas eventually comes back, especially when direct exchange deals are setup which bypass it being needed as a Forex middleman and for oil purchases. China's not going to piss it away buying services and consumer shit like the US did, why would it when it can create all that domestically? I worked in Arcadia a long time ago. Arcadia sucks. You can't even go jogging in the summer because of the smog. Although it is a convenient location for asians. Even in Pasadena at Jet Propulsion Laboratories the air quality was bad. But coming from China they probably don't notice that at first.

I think people don't realize the taxes in China on imports.
A $50k car here costs $150k USD there. So when you look at the supercar's car for the ones in that range, it's a no brainer to get them.
