Bullshit. I worked Accounting for Small-Medium sized firms. I had file cabinet access to resumes, CV, and all pay data to the penny. I knew payroll and filed it at some places.
Women and Men earn the same - WHEN they have same experience and education. +- $500 USD. Identical pay. Identical. Identical.
Of course the Junior Partner (woman) of one firm would come into my office and complain that she made less than the two senior partners.

Back in the day, where I taught at a university, men were paid about 60% more than women regardless of educational level, experience and duties. They were up front about it. my contribution to the discussion is that, yes, there is an increased rate of women in the workforce. From what I see, that's because of lot of the new jobs are in the 'social services' sector (social workers, caregivers, etc.). If I am right, then that is overall not a positive development since these types of positions are a net drain on the taxpayer.

Yeah.... I write software for a living.... I work for a VERY large phone company.... they're moving entire groups off of US soil..... they're not even bringing them here now.... Just moving the jobs to another country, hiring and badging guys overseas.... and the coup de gras is that they're about to open shop in centeral america so they can lay off the rest of domestic talent.
I'm switching to one of the cloud dev. teams.... moving to an architect position... and even there... it may not be safe.
For now... If you have achieved the architect title.... you're safe.... that means 92% of domestic tech folks are shit out of luck at the moment.
Just a suggestion for you, okay? Learn to do the work that requires someone to physically be there to perform. They cannot offshore those skills. Some dude in India cannot physically install the phone system, the trunks, or anything like that. The problem with that is that pretty much all jobs that work in the datacenter and pick things up, move things or plug thing in are controlled by the union under union contracts..... You can't even pick anything up over 35 pounds unless you want to get slapped with a union grievance.
H-1Bs are bad, but at least they are numerically limited (although Obama more or less has gone all around that as a result). There is now a lawsuit against student OPT (work permit) visas - you know, the kind where they don't have to pay the social security or anything on the employees? A tech workers union is suing the government because they just extended these work permits from 12 months to 29 months - with the US gov't bragging how many tech jobs this will offer to the visa holders who have no minimum pay scale and don't have to have social security paid for them. Yeah, over here... they're taking whole departments of tool teams and moving them to India.... of course now, if you want to have things put into applications the new team manages.... good luck with that.... it takes 8mos to get it done now when you used to just make a phone call and have it in a few weeks. It's really a challenge to describe to them what you want also... everything has to be in writing no or you won't get what you want..... it won't even resemble what you asked for.

A few thoughts:
1. It's gotten a lot easier to be a victim and ward of the state--even for "priviledged" White men.
2. Many White men are tired of pulling the cart. Increasingly they would rather someone else do the pulling. Even I feel that way sometimes.
3. If your wife already wears the pants in the family, why not just be a kept man?
4. Many man-children are opting out -- live in their parents basement for free, play video games and watch porn. What's not to luv? And the aging parents keep the illusion that junior is still at home.
5. Lowered expectations. In school, you got a diploma just for breathing. Education increasingly turns White men into medicated eunuchs.
6. Lastly, the jobs just aren't fuking there. And, even when they are there, White men don't cut the mustard like they use to (see #5).
I just met a white man who is about 50 years old, lives with his mom, smokes weed and plays games all day. He is the self-appointed expert on everything. I'm sure Mom loves him because he's sooooo smart.
I am in my late 50s and its been a few years since my kids flew the coop. Fine with me as they have degrees, jobs and are doing okay. Much as I love and miss 'em, the last thing I'd want is for them to be living at home in a permanent state of dependency. But, a surprising number of my contemporaries don't feel the same way. They are perfectly okay with having man (or women) children living at home, sponging off them. And these are SMART people who you would expect to know better. A lot of it is emotional--they can't seem to stand the thought that their children don't need 'em anymore. Or maybe just not having their kids around makes them feel old and alone? On some level, I understand the feeling, but nurturing it is ultimately self destructive to you and, more importantly, your kids. My #1 priority in raising my kids was that they be strong, prepared and independent.
It's been a progressive slow long cook that's been going on for at least 2 generations in the West. The end game has always been to destroy tradition and culture, it's no surprise. When you want to destroy something that you consider a pest, you target the egg layers. Some of those "pests" however have become immune and strengthened.
I want my kid to stay at home, get a job, and pay me rent. That would be ideal until the whole dating thing happens but rules are rules and no dating before marriage and no marriage before 30 so yeah.

He wonders why he cannot get a good paying job. He won't take a job that makes less than $20 an hour because it is beneath him. The situation is hardly helped by a slow but sure change in risk-taking behaviour.
In "today's" OH&S obsessed climate, "anything" that might be remotely "hazardous" is going to be regulated into the ground. So people no longer pursue hazardous activities, or rather, only pursue such activities if "others" are always in a position to mitigate any unforeseen event.
We sail - and we sail VERY long distances when time permits. For safety reasons we avoind shipping lanes (plenty of cases of even larger vessels being run down at night, owing to very poor watch-keeping on Commercial traffic).
So, if anything goes wrong we are on our own.
So, we THINK and PLAN accordingly.
With the entrenched "someone else will think for me" mindset, the result is predictable, - "don't need to think - others will think for me" - and I suspect this too may account for the decline in "employability".

Too many parents don't think twice before putting their kid on meds. I let my wife talk me into taking my son to a psychologist when he was younger 'cause he got into a few scrapes. Could tell right off the guy was a new age quack. Even more scary was looking around the waiting room at the sad-sack kids who were his regular patients -- and their wishsy washy parents. After 3 visits, I told my wife that we weren't going back anymore. She protested, but I said I wasn't paying for it and she could damn well divorce me if she disagreed. It went no futher than that and he turned out fine. I'm convinced to this day, my son would be a fuked up loser if we had continued seeing this guy.
The point is your wife convinced you to do what "the system" told her was right. You were fortunate, most are not and just go along to get along.
My wife never went for the med stuff with our oldest but the system definitely pushed it for years. It's much easier to just get in line and dope the kids up than to actually work at parenting. No one in my family is on any type of regular medication and other people seem shocked by that. People seem to want to feel like there is something wrong with them so they have an instant excuse when shit goes wrong.
There is nothing wrong with our children, they are a gift from God. We've become such a selfish and souless generation. Even a guy like Ceasear Milan knows that there is nothing wrong with the dog, it's the owner that needs therapy. So obvious, it makes me want to spit.

Yup +1000. Cisco just offered me a job as a Network Engineer through a 3rd party hiring firm for $15/hr W2 no benefits. Since wife works full time at her reduced female rate and this obviously won't pay for daycare which is 2x my fucking mortgage. This "kept" man will stay home taking care of child. A good cisco engr should be pulling 60-70/hr.... if you're doing anything more than just carrying them around and putting them into racks.
I work with cisco gear in the SAN environment.... and the FCOE environment... it's pretty cool stuff... I'm moving groups though.... going 100% development now.... rolling out the cloud for a large phone company.
You're correct. I have my degree in Information Sys Security. Pretty sad eh? Also 10+ years in the industry. I guess they just don't want to pay anyone anymore. Got to get labor costs to zero somehow.
I had no idea that there are folks out there paying so little for cisco experience.... Hell, wasn't even of the opinion that anyone with much experience at all would be paid less than 6 figures.
I grew up with Unix... SunOS, then Solaris, HP-UX, IRIX... I was doing that before anyone really knew what the internet was back in the 80s... There were no degrees in Information Systems back then... so, I have no degrees... at some point, you have to just teach yourself to keep up, I suppose.... LOL... I remember the day that I found "mosaic"... it was the only web browser that existed... it was only on Unix and, we found it and started putting documents on it internally for ease of use....
Back then we were running Usenet news as most of our internet traffic.... we had a fractional T1 back then... and even fed some Usenet news down to other sites using UUCP over modems. Things have changed.
Now running Unix isn't as hard as it used to be... it used to be almost a full time job compiling tools, setting things up... sometimes running a break out box to wire up a plotter..... Just running a newsfeed required programming to fix the history file and clean it up from time to time.... All that has changed now.... Running a Unix machine has now become so easy that your can run instances of virtual machines from file images on other Unix boxes.
I moved to SAN storage... I used my programming skills to automate the process or allocating storage, assigning it to multiple hosts, removing it... having an application where the planners fill out forms.... software gets the forms and figures out the specifics and allocates the storage or assigns it to multiple hosts etc..... Now, that job is being offshored.... because it's become push button. The job that used to require 60 people to manage the storage can be done with about 6 now.... if the storage frames were faster at giving their configurations to the software, it'd require less than 6.
Now, I have to move again.... so, instead of attempting to manage virtual machines or some such thing... I'll be putting in the system that manages them and writing software to manage the manager. I see the writing on the wall.... knowing the hardware/software part of large systems is becomming a thing of the past except for the networking group.... networking has never been that interesting to me because so little of it is automated and it mostly seems to be keeping up with static files and are loaded on routers and switches... I wrote interfaces to our cisco SAN directors that would add and remove SAN zoning for setting up the connections between our host and storage systems, however....
The skill you want to have now is being able to use and write your own APIs so, if you can't program, you may be SOL in the cloud environment..... hardware is becomming a commodity....... put in racks of blade servers.... racks of storage, turn it on and the software exposes the cloud to its tenants. Writing software to pull performance data from the group of servers collecting performance data from our storage systems and expose, collect and run the data into another system the planners use for example for planning new projects that require storage..... it's stuff like that that will be in high demand in the future, I think... running the hardware and keeping things going and managing them is becomming much easier than it used to be.

I work for a very large phone company... just moved to using the java cloud crap... You ought to be on the user end. You would have a very different opinion. I'll leave it at that.
I don't think I'll be doing much with java... Looks like a lot of python since most of the openstack bindings are in python... probably rolling out some cloud endpoints.... exposing and creating some REST interface APIs first.... automating the cloud rollout... probably customizing the horizion interface a bit..... writing in a lot of automation for creating virtual networks, virtual IP addresses etc.
The user end will probably get better.... a lot of it comes down to putting in enough hardware to make it work the way you want.... cloud isn't good for everything..... I'll give you that. Most user's experience is that it is slow but, it's not really if you give your virtual machines enough horses to run on. It's not good for things that require very fast response times though.... Infrastructure as a servce may solve that issue but, it's still being worked on. Critical machines creating 20k records per second are not a contender for cloud over here. haha
Most don't know it but, Infrastructure as a service will allow someone to have hardware set aside by the cloud to be dedicated to only one project or tenant.... You don't see it being offered yet but, it's part of it and will be offered soon... for now, you see sofware endpoints or virtual machines...
Around here, there are lots of internal applications that need to be exposed to other applications.. pull data from one group's db and expose it to another group's developers for their own applications... but, for now... it's cloud rollout.... so software for setting up and tearing down tenants and their environments... cloud monitoring stuff....
It's a big draw for a company to be able to give a project it's own servers in a matter of seconds and not months.... A big part of the company I work for is union.... and having anything brought to the datacenter floor... or plugged in or anything else requires a massive amount of headache.... if you are on the tech side though, it's all non-union.... I suppose that is why most of the layoffs are happening in the non-union areas..... Well, that and that if it's a physical job, the unions seem to have that area sowed up.
Those in technical IT should have a close look at the cloud.... it's not all the way here yet but, after some time, it may be the job killer for most IT jobs if you can simply rent your IT dept from your phone company and run it in a virtual cloud for a monthly fee. You'll have to have skilled people running it but, you won't manage the hardware anymore... you won't have maint contracts.. you won't have to have floor space for it or the cost and pain of forecasting what you will need next year... If you need more compute cycles, you add them on the fly and keep going etc..... It's not all the way here yet but, it's coming....
If you believe in the stock market... invest in rackspace hosting.... they're driving a lot of this..... My company will be putting them out of business in a few years, I imagine. It's hard for a small company to keep up with a 120yr old phone company in rolling out something like this. Is's all open source so... it's sort of like what android did to apple.... the source code is out there and anyone can add to it..., nobody has a monopoly on the technology..... it's coming.... and that is what will make it a powerhouse....

I mostly agree with your post, however, here in California almost all the bearded middle aged men that I see with a "Hungry -- God Bless", or "Homeless Vet-- Hungry" cardboard signs at the exit of practically every shopping center are almost always "white men". I have hardly ever see a Hispanic with that cardboard sign around his neck. Needless to say, no Asians are ever on the corner begging for money. Blacks bums that are around town seem to be mostly dealing with some mental health issues and often talking to themselves, as they walk down the street. They are also almost never seen standing at the exit with the cardboard sign.
In sum, at least in California, the "white man" seems to be going down fast in his social standing, and now represents the stereotype of the "typical cardboard sign guy at the shopping center exit."

This apparently escapes you, but Scandinavian men showing little or no qualms about women having a high degree of autonomy and self-determination is not exactly a recent development. Viking women, for example, enjoyed many more rights than an average European woman living under the yoke of Christian "morality" did, such as the right to divorce her husband. This was well over 900 years ago.
This is because Scandinavian males typically do not need to repress, limit or dominate their women in all sorts of ways in order to get themselves laid on a regular basis (Oslo literally is the world capital of one-night stands). However, when a male does require women to be constantly put down or psychologically repressed before he can feel good or confident about himself, then I can well imagine how feminism may look like a scary thing to him. When I was a child, the working class white male dominated society. There were fewer really rich people than now, even those up the professional or corporate ladder were simply upper middle class, living in nicer but normal suburbs. The garbage man lived four houses down form us, his house was decent, his car was decent and he was raising 5 kids. The Milk Man was on our block, he had a stake in the creamery where he worked, so he was more than just a delivery guy, the Dime Store Owner was a block up, his house was new, nice, but small. The Mail Men, we had two on our block, same small conservative but decents homes and cars, steel workers and rail roaders made up half the town. All made good livings. ALL these people were white, middle class, workers. Conservative, we knew the forst names of the cops, the Sheriff was my Sunday School teacher and scout master. Nobody was above anyone, they shared a common culture.
Was that good? Bad? What? I don't know, I just know that that is how it was. My best friends on the block had parents who like this. The County Highway Engineer, The Milk Man, the Mail Man, and 3 had steel worker parents. We took a middle class life for granted. The Military Recruiters loved our town, ususally 1/2 of all graduating boys enlisted within 12 months. No for careers, not for training, not for pay and benefits. We all did it because we were taught that that is what men did, it was a duty, those who shirked it were looked down on.
America was a totally different world, but as I hit teenage years it was already blowing up in their faces. Mass layoffs in steel, the rail roads and closing small manufactering. The New World Order would not tolerate payscales that supported middle class life. The NWO was a race to the wage bottom, still going on.
That's when capitalism died and cronyism took over.

When I was a child, I swam in the ocean near the Tybee River where a nuclear bomb had been lost, but nobody was told about it. My sister and I both developed thyroid problems. There were still signs back then left around saying Whites Only on drinking fountains and restrooms.

In the work force the women could do tasks

So when I got laid off and started a new job 2009 in another city same industry, I heard one of the directors talk about how
quality sucked because they fired anyone that had any experience. The parking lot was empty but filled slowly over 18 months into
2010, it was usually the middle age motherly women filling up the employee parking lot, what replaced the experience.
Hard to imagine living in this country. I make good money late in career but 43% of it is tax. I make major innovations consistently
and in fact I have to throttle them, space them to run over a few years incrementally. They have no idea what I know and what I
can do, that is the white mans secret. I dont knwo what I can do but I find things, discoveries, creation, by doing work. I may
have no limit.
Tiny tiny numbers of people like me, and I'm not saying I am all that, but I have acheived and created more than others.
The best way for people might be to use Chapter 7 every 8 years. I dont know the remedies. Get to a doctor and get diagnosed

The "Rust Belt" phenomenon of the Reagen years showed the beginning demise of American manufacturing, taking many union jobs with it. Now, both husband and wife usually have to work to support a small family. Stay-at-home moms are becoming rare and often are on a government welfare program.
