"Burning Money To Keep Warm" - China's New Normal
Worried about money-printing in China... don't! As China.org reports, an electricity generation plant in China's troubled Henan province is burning banknotes in what appears to be an effort to raise efficiency and reduce toxic emissions. One ton of scrapped banknotes can generate about 660 kWh of electricity, which means around 4,000 tonnes of coal can be saved in the province every year by using this process. Perhaps that is the solution to higher natural gas prices in winter for the US NorthEast... just transfer some banknotes up from The Eccles Building and heat the nation...
Old banknotes, which are out of circulation, have been used to generate electricity for the first time in China. These old bank notes were earlier used to make paper products.
An electricity generation plant using old notes from the People's Bank of China in Zhengzhou was set up in April this year as a pilot project to test the feasibility of the idea. The power plant was set up in Luoyang city in central China's Henan province.
One ton of scrapped banknotes can generate about 660 kWh of electricity. Around 4,000 tonnes of coal can be saved in the province every year by using this process.
Authorities aim to replicate the success of this pilot project in Henan province and use old banknotes as a biofuel to generate electricity across the country.

You can't eat gold... but you can burn banknotes.

Coming to a Western country near us soon?
And/or use as TP....
Better use... toilet paper.
BS: 1 tonne of banknotes == 660kWh
Only if you don't stir them up so they don't burn faster. LMAO.
The aliens are watching us and this is just embarrasing

Well if they'd burn gold it would produce more electricity because it burns at about 2000 degrees F. So there, another use for the barbarous relic. Makie more electricitie than fiatie. That's why they're buying it, I been told.
China leads the world in innovation.
China leads the world in innovation.
Ah... China leads the world in copying other people's innovation.
So with all that coke on the banknotes, is it like smoking crack if you're in the room?
damn.
no way i'd use those bank notes as toilet paper.
Fer chrissakes, don't print the paper into currency. You'll lower its value. No one like having ink stains on their ass.
The central bank in Zimbabwe finally figured that out when they discovered they were lowering the value of the paper they bought by printing zeros all over it.
I believe that fucktard Keynes counts this as growth!

Your bunghole will be permanently green after a year.
old banknotes are diriter than shit and more germ ridden than anything you can come into contact with.
for the health and tenderness of your pucker, plz stick to regular toilet paper
When I was at COSTCO the other day they had a special on recycled toilet paper.
So, that's deflationary..... right?

Why not just burn all of those aborted babies?

The true value of fiat!
Digits on hard drives don't even have calorific value!
They could use them to make adult diapers for the Japanese.
Standard issue gubbamin diaper w/ camera, microphone, and internet connection. "You'll need it to shit your pants, when you find out that the dollar is worthless."
Too bad we can't burn our digital bits and bytes when our currency is devalued to the point of burning it for warmth and cooking.
You can just pretend to be warm just as easy as you pretend to have tangible wealth.
if you have a large plasma screen TV, the zeros on the screen will heat the room.
Are you telling me they've printed enough of this shit to make a goddamn powerplant specifically for the purpose of burning them?
That's not insane. That's beyond insane.
And also the reason the US prefers the Digital Zero because there wouldn't be fucking tree left on the planet.
that's why we in the west are more advanced: digital zeroes saves trees!
In a paper standard the face value reflects the scrap value of a banknote.
The higher face value bill has a higher BTU rating. Ka-dumb!
I'd like to see you try and burn those piece of shit 'precious' metals to keep you warm in the winter.
Checkmate goldbugs.
You are correct that PM's won't burn. Used as collateral , well that's what it's all about. I'll take my 2014 Silver Eagles over any fiat currency any day of the week.
why would I burn my PMs when I can walk down the block and collect firewood from thousands of empty, overbuilt, overpriced, bank owned (but not foreclosed to save from paying the taxes) houses which are just rotting away unmaintained?
For the smallest Gold trinket I can get a smart fat girl to keep me warm.
Just plain stupid.
They copy everything and make most everything we have, so why don't they just print $USD's as well? No need to buy them when they can print their own.
Yeah but since we are collapsing and they are so envious as to want to be just like us they will collapse also as they are doing the same stupid shit we are.

BULL. FUCKING. SHIT. This is either intentionally misleading or an outright lie. Bank notes have less energy per ton than coal. So either they are burning 6000 tons of bank notes per year or they are pulling numbers out of their collective asses.
Well, it is China.
Heuristic adjustment
Totally possible if you are burning twenty thousand tonnes of paper every year. Think of the energy that they could produce burning all of that virtual digital cash that they create. It could end global warming. Zero emissions!
Maybe the energy output is also fiat. Most people suck at math.
Reporters don't do Maths, it is hard.
Probably meant that they burn many tonnes of scrapped notes, and those many tonnes save the burning of coal.
They state that burning 1t of banknotes generates 660 kWh. This does not mean that they only burn 1t per year.
They do not mention the number of tones burned each year.
"Hey Japan, do we have your attention yet"?
I am jealous. I can't burn my silver to get warm.
Sweet we're all going to be warm and rich also - thanks Paul Krugman you hairy wee wealth maker.

Long Yuan?
My question is.......are they still printing them? Wouldn't want the powerplant to shutdown you know.
I seem to remember this being done before, 1920's Germany I believe:
How many kWh in one tonne of bankers?
