14 Facts That Show The Number Of Children Living In Poverty This Christmas Is At A Record High
Submitted by Michael Snyder of The Economic Collapse blog,
Did you know that 65 percent of all children in the United States live in a home that receives aid from the federal government? We live at a time when child poverty in America is exploding. Yes, the U.S. economy is experiencing a temporary bubble of false stability for the moment, but even during this period of false stability the gap between the wealthy and the poor continues to rapidly expand and the middle class is being systematically destroyed. And sadly, this is having a disproportionate impact on children. This is happening for a couple of reasons. First of all, poorer households tend to have more children than wealthier households. Secondly, most people tend to have children when they are in their young adult years, and right now young adults are being absolutely hammered by this economy. As a result, things just continue to get even worse for children living in this country.
Here are 14 facts that show that the number of children in America living in poverty this Christmas is at an all-time record high…
#1 The National Center for Children in Poverty says that 45 percent of all U.S. children belong to low income families.
#2 According to a Census Bureau report that was released just this week, 65 percent of all children in America are living in a home that receives some form of aid from the federal government…
“Almost two-thirds (65 percent) of children,” said the Census Bureau, “lived in households that participated in at least one or more of the following government aid programs: Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), Medicaid, and the National School Lunch Program.”
#3 According to a report recently released by UNICEF, almost one-third of all children in this country “live in households with an income below 60 percent of the national median income”.
#4 When it comes to child poverty, the United States ranks 36th out of the 41 “wealthy nations” that UNICEF looked at.
#5 An astounding 45 percent of all African-American children in America live in areas of “concentrated poverty”.
#6 40.9 percent of all children in the United States that are living with only one parent are living in poverty.
#7 These days, a lot of single mothers are really, really struggling to survive. A decade ago, the number of women in America that had jobs outnumbered the number of women in America on food stamps by more than a 2 to 1 margin. But now the number of women in America on food stamps actually exceeds the total number of women that have jobs.
#8 It is hard to believe, but right now 49 million Americans are dealing with food insecurity.
#9 According to a report that was released last month by the National Center on Family Homelessness, the number of homeless children in the United States has reached a new all-time high of 2.5 million.
#10 There are more than half a million homeless children in the state of California alone.
#11 One recent survey found that about 22 percent of all Americans have had to turn to a church food panty for assistance.
#12 This year, almost one out of every five households in the United States will go through the holiday season on food stamps.
#13 One of the primary reasons why kids are suffering so much is because their parents are simply not making enough money. This is especially true for parents of young children. For example, check out the following numbers from the Atlantic…
Since the Great Recession struck in 2007, the median wage for people between the ages of 25 and 34, adjusted for inflation, has fallen in every major industry except for health care.
These numbers come from an analysis of the Census Current Population Survey by Konrad Mugglestone, an economist with Young Invincibles.
In retail, wholesale, leisure, and hospitality—which together employ more than one quarter of this age group—real wages have fallen more than 10 percent since 2007. To be clear, this doesn’t mean that most of this cohort are seeing their pay slashed, year after year. Instead it suggests that wage growth is failing to keep up with inflation, and that, as twentysomethings pass into their thirties, they are earning less than their older peers did before the recession.
#14 Overall, the quality of the jobs in America continues to decline. At this point, most Americans do not bring home enough income to support a middle class lifestyle for their families. Below I have shared an excerpt from an article that I published a while back…
The following are some statistics about wages in the U.S. from a Social Security Administration report that was recently released…
-39 percent of American workers made less than $20,000 last year.
-52 percent of American workers made less than $30,000 last year.
-63 percent of American workers made less than $40,000 last year.
-72 percent of American workers made less than $50,000 last year.
In addition to all of these numbers, there is also a lot of anecdotal evidence that families with children are really struggling right now.
For example, McDonald’s has traditionally been a place where poor and middle class families have taken their children for a cheap meal. But the restaurant chain just released the worst sales numbers that we have seen in more than a decade.
And the really bad news is that this is just the beginning of the economic pain for families with children. The U.S. economy is in a bubble period right now, and the authorities have been trying with all of their might to keep the bubble inflated.
Just imagine a bodybuilder that is pressing with all of his might to do one more rep on the bench press. That is essentially where we are at. In a recent piece, Brian Pretti summarized some of the extraordinary measures that global central banks have taken to keep the economic bubble inflated…
Since early 2009, central banks globally have printed more than $13 trillion. In addition, governments across the planet have increased their borrowings at historic proportions (the US just crossed $18T – another new high!), all in an effort to stimulate economies and avoid deflationary pressures. Total US Federal debt has more than doubled in five years, an increase of $9.5 trillion and counting.
Despite all of these efforts, the best that we have achieved is economic stagnation.
And now it is becoming clear that the overwhelming deflationary forces around the globe are starting to win the battle. The central banks have used up their ammunition and they still have not turned things around. In fact, as Ambrose Evans-Pritchard so eloquently put it recently, what we see all around us is “evidence of a 1930s-style depression, albeit one that is still contained”…
What is clear is that the world has become addicted to central bank stimulus. Bank of America said 56pc of global GDP is currently supported by zero interest rates, and so are 83pc of the free-floating equities on global bourses. Half of all government bonds in the world yield less that 1pc. Roughly 1.4bn people are experiencing negative rates in one form or another.
These are astonishing figures, evidence of a 1930s-style depression, albeit one that is still contained. Nobody knows what will happen as the Fed tries to break out of the stimulus trap, including Fed officials themselves.
But will it still be contained once the next major financial crash strikes?
As I discussed yesterday, there has never been a time when conditions have been more ideal for a financial crisis since the last one happened in 2008.
So as bad as things are for the children of America right now, they are only going to get worse.
In the years ahead may we all have great compassion for these victims of our incredibly foolish economic mistakes.

"Don't breed 'em if you can't feed 'em" has morphed into "Breed 'em and we'll feed 'em".
Breed 'em and we'll feed 'em until they become of age to commit a crime, then we'll incarcerate 'em. All at taxpayer expense and banker profit, of course. Follow the money.
nature evens itself out eventually:

we all know instinctively there are too many of us living like assholes on this planet.
~"#1 The National Center for Children in Poverty says that 45 percent of all U.S. children belong to low income families."~
And does this matter?
Not one fuckin' iota.
And here's the proof:
The Obama administration is importing more of them to "distribute" around the country. Because this somehow will help the "disadvantaged" ones that are already here, right?
Face it: these "children in poverty" are just so much political cannon fodder. And that goes for both the ones here and the ones they import. Dreamer, my ass.
Ha Ha Mr Goodman, don't get too worked up, the figure is way higher than 45%. Its likely 95%. After all, aren't all gov't employees getting welfare in the form of way too high wages and benifits? Arent all the companies who deal with govt getting welfare inn the form of way too high of prices on what they sell to that gov't? Arent all Medical and insurance employees in the same boat due to forcing everyone into Obamacare? Aren't the wall street whores and politicians on a teat with their insider trading? Seems to me there are damn few people in the middle to bear the load anymore.
You're right, U&A. It's just that I get tired of the "oh, dem po' chillens" crap. Somebody please bust me out a "sad bear" meme like you find on Imgur.
A country that can pass a $1.1 TRILLION appropriations bill and is raking in over $400 BILLION a month from their tax collectors cannot bitch about children in poverty. Sorry, I just don't buy it.
i'm a little short these days. "tight for bread" if you will. can't seem to make ends meet. the math doesn't add up. fuck it. let's have a kid.
Last week I had seen the numbers on govt assistance for the free portioned moochele program in my county. 82% of kids qualify. The dependency on the govt is staggering.
+1 for saying Christmas Tyler.
Consider the source of this report. Would it benefit if report believed?
History does not judge kindly on people inclined to invoke "nature" or "natural order" in support of their political views.
whiplash backlash.
it's all the rage.
Cradle to grave, we the central planners have your back. Just take our hand(out)....
Twas the Night before Fed-mas:
Now Fischer, now Blinder, now Meyer and Rivlin!
On Raskin! On Mishken! on Krozner and Yellen!
To the top of the Fed! To the top of the Wall!
Now cash away, cash away, cash away all!!
Rubbers
Most children are useless eaters. The blacks are all obsolete farm equipment.
LetThemEat Rand,
So, are we to believe the "war on drugs" is really about drugs?
And the prison industry and the drug wars are not the main causes
for the incarceration rates
and the inability (criminal record along with the lack of jobs) of lower class families to support themselves ? (Many 'drug felons' denied even the right to vote also.)
Why don't 'they' get educated at the free colleges? Oh wait.
It's all innate, is it? Just like with the Irish and Italian immigrants before?
When exactly did "Jim Crow" laws and "Jim Crow" enforcement end?
Is WIC (nutrional food vouchers for children) the first place to cut before F-35 fighters and TBTF handouts (as was just legislated)?
Yes, crime and poverty create and magnify problems, but they are themselves formed on a wider foundation of power, theft, and repression. Otherwise, it is much like having a war on "terror" without looking at the actual causes. Oh wait, is it the "muslims"?
Or, let them walk across the border and we'll feed'em.
(and give them some clothes, a place to stay, free dental/medical, and ... oh yeah, how bout we throw in a cell phone for good measure)
Now who the hell do you suppose is lobbying to feed the children? Seems Soouthern Baptist Church was paid at the rate of $225,000 per illegal per year to care for them. Times that by 4000 kids. Who was lobbying for free cell phones? Of course it wasn't the illegals, it was the cell phone companies. They get sales and you get to pay. So follow the fucking money and start to realize who the real leeches and welfare cases are. They usually arent the poor bastards trying to better their lives, its the super greedy cockroaches with all the money, thats who it is.
used, I hadn't seen your comment. I was on a stale screen that was open overnight...
C.P. you speak the truth. Here's a fuckin blood-boiler link. It's a breakdown of Pmts. for caring for UACs for 4 mos.
Be sure to compare it to the wages linked in the article above.
It will make us feel a bit more "Patriotic" with tax-time just around the corner...

Quote Article:
-52 percent of American workers made less than $30,000 last year.
I have to wonder if the SSA is hedonically adjusting these numbers? Thoughts?
In other words "50% of the country made less than $30K, but 45% of them got new iShit for Christmas, and thus felt great about being poor".
I find it interesting that the tenor of most of these comments centers on government dependence of the poorer classes. And while I agree that government dependence is absolutely debilitating, robbing people of ambition while taking one man's labor and providing the fruits of that labor to another, the real government dependence is at the top. Moreover, it is directed from the top.
Stop the welfare of the .01 percenters, ie the elimination of fractional banking and fiat money, and I am certain you all know the tax payer is back on the hook for derivatives play, or, here is an idea... print money and hand it out to the bottom 99 percent and see how long it takes to shift the concentration of wealth (and yes, I am quite aware of the destructive and immoral nature of this, but it would be an amusing experiment... that is before the accelerated debauchery of human character led to a complete fall of society... but hell, it is going to fall anyway guys).
To blame the poor for having the mentality of poor people is a rather fruitless enterprise. They are not the ones who rigged this system, and in their place you folks would do pretty much the same thing. The real question is what are we going to do about it, and the answer to that question is nothing. We are way too far down this road to turn around and go back. To mix metaphors, the bill collector's at the door people and he is going to collect, and all of us are going to pay up.
Then we shall see if there is something left with which to rebuild.
There is no wealth inequality and speaking about it is class-warfare. For example, I read an article here the other day that pointed out there are a couple dozen self-made billionaires out of several hundred, so America in total is still the land of opportunity etc. (because all the matters for determining same is the number of self-made billionaires).
LTER , I don't know how you do it any more. The commenters here have become more and more Fox News/ Rush followers. We are getting creamed in the thread above about Cheney and his crimes. What happened to ZH? I don't always agree with all of your posts, and I am sure no one agrees with all of mine, but questioning the system now has us all branded as "leftists". Is there an other site where sane people debate the days events? If so please let me know and I will regretfully turn in my fight club membership, I guess operation chaos was just a dream we dreamed one afternoon long ago.. His name was Tyler Durdin... And then he sold the place to the highest bidder and invited in the ignorant masses.
Keep your chin up, NuckFut.

Thanks
His name was Tyler Durden.
He was working on a project.
You revert to the same tired old rhetoric about "Fox" and "Rush" while calling others ignorant. Try alternet, gawker or huffington post, you'll fit right in.
Article is misleading. A record number of kids are poor because stupid poor retards have tons of kids. For every 1 kid named Steve, you'll find 30 named LaShonda. That Steve kid is middle class, all 30 LaShondas are lower class, so it fucks up the stats.
So the root problem is black people? And here I thought it was the Fed and oligarchs. Now I remember why I stopped posting here.
I believe the root problem is EBT but I admit the banker subsidies are probably numerically greater. It is debatable which causes the greater toll on society.
Miffed
The bankers run EBT, Miffed, literally and figuratively. And they do it in order to prevent revolution and maintain the status quo. It's a symptom. They are the disease.
So you're saying (in concert with .gov) the plantation economy is alive and well.
It seems we finally have an accord ;-)
We've been in agreement on a lot of things over the years. We have a few major disagreements, but maybe one day guys like us will stop worrying about those and focus instead on changing the system and iron out the differences after.
I'm for a federal government about 75% smaller than it currently is.
We'll have to start there.
If we ended the Fed (and I mean really end it, not just change the way it works), the Federal government would reduce by 25% very quickly. And be down to half in a few years I'd guess. I'd take that and worry about where the correct balance is later.
That would also reduce the "fake taxes" by a third, so I'm all for it ;-)

The only chance of anything other than rearranging the deck chairs is an Article V Convention.
True, but this would not be so if the government didn't make it so lucrative. When did bread and circuses fully stave off revolution? Only delay it so they can prepare for the inevitable and then reap the rewards of asset purchases ,pennies on the dollar, when the dust clears. Same as it ever was.
Miffed
They are the government. Never before in history did we have drones, constant surveillance, the various toys widely disseminated among a growingly militarized police, etc. Maybe it is different this time.
They truely have made a better mouse trap. Next, they will perfect the wheel.
They are what they are BECAUSE OF GOVERNMENT.
It's what government is created to do. Democracy exists to con the simple-minded dupes.
Back in the day, I would point out that oligarchs ruled the sheep long before there were free elections, and that the average person living in a Kingdom had/has it worse. But I will not do that anymore because it is plainly pointless and we'll just have to agree to disagree on this point.
"that the average person living in a Kingdom had/has it worse."
Four hundred million killed by government in the 20th century.
In the 21st century to date, the second largest democracy is by far the biggest killer. Only a complete moron would want government.
"Whether the mask is labelled Fascism, Democracy, or Dictatorship of the Proletariat, our great adversary remains the Apparatus—the bureaucracy, the police, the military. Not the one facing us across the frontier or the battlelines, which is not so much our enemy as our brother's enemy, but the one that calls itself our protector and makes us its slaves. No matter what the circumstances, the worst betrayal will always be to subordinate ourselves to this Apparatus, and to trample underfoot, in its service, all human values in ourselves and in others."
— Simone Weil, Politics, Spring 1945
http://www.seesharppress.com/warquotes.html
One more time then I'm done. What if the Apparatus was run by the corporations, the oligarchs, and the bankers? It is. And what if it wouldn't magically disappear if you took away the few remaining checks and balances we have? It wouldn't.
You're either incorrigible or stupid or both.
It doesn't matter who or what runs government. It's a tool and weapon to be used, and it will always be used.
Checks & balances like Jon Corzine or John Roberts?
Those would be the guys against whom we need checks and balances, and who have usurped the Republic, while guys like you egg them on (unwittingly) by calling for an end to checks and balances.
Nations/cultures/societies, hell, this whole damn species, follows the arc of history from plenty to deprivation and back again... ad infinitum:
from Reason to depravity, freedom to bondage, virtue to corruption, and back again....
there is no solving "ism" only a given point on a temporal curve....
only saints/sinners - cops/robbers and everlasting vigilance
There is one check & balance left that hasn't been used and you already said what that is. People can only be abused for so long by these systemic checks & balances...lol.
A thought experiment for you, what if these "checks & balances" are only an illusion of the people having some control? Not the idea of...having checks & balances on the system...but as a practical matter.
There can be no doubt that Jon Corzine is not in ass pounding prison and John Roberts bent himself into a pretzel to say something was a tax when the Executive and a majority of Congress initially said it wasn't and that was not the purpose or intent. If they are willing to manipulate, decieve, lie, show zero self control, restraint or responsibility for what they do, then there are no legal checks & balances left are there?
Every time in history when there has been oppression, the State has its arsenal they wield for control. Rome has the most sophisticated military capability of the time and used it effectively to capture and conquer many. Few could resist enslavement through their tactical and technological advancements. However, they became complacent and rotted from within. Key uprisings cost valuable territories to be lost. They eventually collapsed.
Do not be so impressed by bells and whistles. Human courage and the will for freedom prevails.
Miffed
I hope you're right, I really do. I think you're wrong, but I hope I'm wrong.
What happened to the idea of progress? Oh, wrong site. Improving human condition not to be found here. Must move on the science sites.
Over time Rome diluted its gene pool, the basis of its civilization, with the inferior gene pool of the conquered.
Same for America, the 30-40% that were libertarianish at its founding have been reduced to 1-2% through immigration and being out bred..
How's that working out?
When banksters make money, they are self made billionaires....
lol they make themselves billionaires.
The banker subsidies are PROBABLY greater? More like DEFINITELY greater.
LOL, Yup, definitely. In facthey can put away some every year and become billionaires Those on the EBT, why its jjust a pass thru program. Right into the hands of the bankers and the medical industry. Directy from the producers. SO who are the true robbers in the system? Gotta laugh when the wall streeters and the medical professionals hold their fucking noses so high up in the air thata their mommas have to tell them to tip em down or they might drown when it rains, and how fucking quick to point out what that por bastard without a savings account must have stolen....
Until you can put up with stepping over dieing people, money will go out to Poor people.
Assuming that, it might make sense to fight the enabling reliance of the gov.
Of course we should also do that to banksters.
If we have 1985'ed the Banksters in 2009 we would be far better off now.
Miffed...seeing more kids born lately to what was middle class women who see nothing wrong in having babies out of wedlock and to the expense of the taxpayer. This is no longer black or low income issue..that is so 1970's. Looks to be more of a moral less society issue.
I have seen this as well. Recently while thumbing through a woman's magazine ( egads, they make me ill) I noticed an article where a 40 year old professional chronicalled her life story how her career was her life and men were on the side. Then she realized she wanted a child and got inseminated. This was presented as a good thing, a beacon of hope to the rich single professional women that, yes, you can have it all. I was utterly aghast at the shallowness of the action. She wanted a child like a new designer handbag. It was something she just wanted. The welfare and benefit for the child was never mentioned. Only that she was rich and could provide for him. Nothing was presented as a negative to this action.
Though I admit the majority of babies born to single mothers is in the lower income classes, this showed me the moral decay and narcissism is infecting women at higher income levels as well. Just because they can pay for it doesn't mean the action is correct.
I find just watching and reading such things is so repugnant to me now I just want to escape to a hidden cave in the mountains, cut off from the horror to what our society has become.
Miffed
Steve Harvey is white? But what about that balding disease that disproportionally afflicts black males?
I'm so confused ;-)
No...the root problem is people producing people...happens across every ethnicity. Here is my campaign for that...buttsex or nosex! I could hear that in a ballgame chant.

2 weeks 40 minutes and this is what you say?
Queer!
I know I am onto something that irritates sheep when I have only negative. Last night was -17-0....I am slacking tonight.
you are
"onto something" ,
but ignorance is NOT strength,
even when recognized.
It's not a problem. We're living the dream.
LetthemeatRand is an anti-white fool who cannot face reality. Get lost, loser.
What does the percentage go to if you include kids living off their Grandparents social security?
Good point. Just today, I was in the checkout line behind an older couple who was caring for their toddler grandchild. The couple were buying a lot of baby food to feed the toddler. I had the distinct impression the grandparents had become the defacto parents of the kid. Even though the grandparents likely had to disrupt their retirement to raise their grandchild, at least the kid will grow up in a comparitively normal household, and hopefully avoid prison later in life.
Forward (over the cliff)!
Looks like the grandparents weren't too successful with the infant's genitor.
You spreadem you take care of em . Screw School Bonds, EIC, School Buses etc as well. Let parents pay for the crappy education and shit.
You need not look any farther than the church to realize why so many young women are having baby after baby, with nothing to offer them but a state sponsored life. Thank the Church as a pregnant woman is praised OH YOU ARE PREGNANT!!! YIPPPEEEE GOOOD JOB. As if getting pregnant takes some kind of talent. The growing congregation can mean only one thing - MORE MONEY. Oh just love to offer but that is about it. and if the young girl has issues from some dysfunction that only Oprah can drag out of a person (Tell us about it, tell us everything, leave nothing out), then grandpa can foot the bill and grandma can take responsibility of the path this new baby who will be a person to be dealt with, with no thanks from anyone. We are a nation of personality disorders, issues that require analgesia (street drugs will do, thanks, CIA).
you've picked up a drive-by down vote, not that these things matter - but I thought I'd add a perspective anyhow. . .
perhaps all these young "Mother Mary" types have an instinct for survival kicking in, and see their immaculate conceptions as a means to be cared for (by a congregation who sells this idea to them originally, no?).
all the hate focused on them outside of the pew-class - and absolutely NEVER mentioned are the sperm donors who impregnated them? so obviously, no sperm happened, it wuz gawd's will for these baybees to be born.
someone has a narrative to promote, and some people are acting their parts.
Yet another Snyder listicle. Fuck you, Michael Snyder.
"These days, a lot of single mothers are really, really struggling to survive. But now the number of women in America on food stamps actually exceeds the total number of women that have jobs."
Bulllllshit. Single mothers on food stamps (who probably have Medicaid, Section 8 housing, Obamaphones, utility assistance, etc. as well) live better than single mothers who work. For reference, see the gazillion articles the Tylers have posted with pretty charts and graphs and shit. If the total number of wimmin in 'Murica on food stamps exceeds the total number of women that have jobs, then they are doing much better as a whole.
And, for fuck's sake, don't use the term "food insecurity". That's more of that blue pill word obfuscation like "differently abled" and "______ challenged" that makes me want to kick puppies with spike-soled boots. They are not insecure in their food, they just don't have parents who are willing to bust their asses to feed them.

Thanks for the late week misery Mike, right on cue.
"Did you know that 65 percent of all children in the United States live in a home that receives aid from the federal government?"
Welfare should more accurately be called "rebate." They steal the wealth and opportunities from you directly, or indirectly, and then steal your dignity with a "rebate"of your own wealth.
An EBT card is really a rebate of opportunities stolen.
WIC is a rebate of part of that 15% FICA you pay.
Section 8 is a rebate on rents pushed up by the banksters' price inflation, and a way to divide the neighbors.
PELL Grants are a rebate of the tuition inflation caused by other grants and loans.
An American, not US subject.
"If I don't pay taxes, they will cage me. If I pay taxes they will give me welfare. How about we just call not paying taxes self funded welfare?"
And, guess what city/ state tops the list again? Obama vacations there with D. Patrick. BOSTON, Mass..
But, Elizabeth (Oklahoma Carpetbaggard-neighbor?) Warren seems to be the next in line if Hitlary drops-out for president. Where's, or What's, the #1 man in the US House of Rep's., Sir Richi`RICH'Neal doing about the Heroin?
Why, he's going to be on K-Street getting grants for $Billions for Drug-Rehab,... minus the housing!?!
While Patrick Deval dines with Obama on the Cape where the addiction runs rampant, and the highest paying jobs are retail with Boston's Real Estate eclipsing $200 Billion. WOW!
Perhaps they can put the homeless families on floating barges and ship them to Mexico as foreign exchange drug-collaterol damaged goods.
What`ta ya say, Boston Patriots!!!

All of this "who's running" stuff is hilarious, as those that know, know that the next president has already been "selected." All else is theater and cover.

Do sheeple vote?
Who cares how many live in poverty, they all have an Iphone if over the age of 10. 90% of people in America do not know what real poverty is.

#3 According to a report recently released by UNICEF, almost one-third of all children in this country “live in households with an income below 60 percent of the national median income”
Well of course 33% of people live in households below the 60%....actual 40 % of people live in household below the top 60%...that is the way it works. There are so many awful facts...why fake any?
Jamie, Lloyd, Warren and Jack will make sure your stockings are full of massive debt kiddies.
No Virginia there is NO Santa Claus. It's just a lie played on children by the Tribe. And it helps puts your parents in debt and now apparently poverty. Happy Hanukkah !!
Fuck. How can you call this social setup civil? You've got nearly five million homeless, one million homeless kids, in the land where nearly 19 million housing units stand idle unoccupied. If this is not brutal violence, then what is?
Go visit Guatemala and get off the beaten path. You will see kids living well below any standard of poverty. No iPhones, no TVs, no EBT cards - they play soccer with a patched up ball - no fancy cleats, no shin guards, no tech-T's, etc, etc. They don't know about these things - so they do not miss them. No one has promised them anything. They play, they have fun, they grow up, they work - and they do not riot and burn down their town.
The US cannot afford to pay its poor to live at what some consider the 'poverty level'. When the day of reckoning comes, and the US poor face what the Guatemalans see each day - and what existed in the US not that long ago - what will happen?
Hey, my great grandparents lived in a one room shack. They had no fucking electricity. They used a fire to heat their home. They fucking plowed their fieldsd with a goddam horse when available to the few who could afford one. They put in the infrafuckingstructure. Goddam it, enough with how others live, we are the children of people who fought that world and won. The reason we are here is the politicians who refused to stand before the world and say the truth. They did say NO NEW TAXES and bankrupted the nation. Politics is a get rich quick scheme in this country and the politicians will who decided our fate with never know the poverty they have forced upon us. ALL WE HAD TO DO WAS PAY THE FUCKING BILL and maybe, maybe we would have paid closer attention to these pricks and their ugly wives with nothing to show for their positions of power but diamonds and a nice house (or 4). So fuck you all. We are to pay for failed govt in other lands? What the fuck?
TO THE WORLD: Our ability to govern has been compromised by snipers who work for a bank run bya man who refused to leave castle in spiote of the fact he is a lying, pitiful slob who steals for a living.
To the person who down voted me - You are a rat and belong in the sewer with the rest of the rats who scavenge for a living. A better person than you can be found on a street corner, holding up a sign "Wil work for food." If we added up the hours of our actual work, it would amount to 9 months, the time it took your slut of a mother to eject you from the hell called her uterus.
Wow. Nice rant, Bunny.
I'm guessing the ones in poverty are going to be the kids who curse their parents on social media for getting an android phone instead of the latest iPhone...
What a load of crap. Yes, there are poor people in this country, and poor children. But this is a case of moving the goal posts. We've given social welfare entitlements to 2/3rds of the country, then say that 2/3rds of the country is poor because they are on benefits. Does anyone see the circular nature of this? This is one more bleeding heart, guilt-tripped liberal argument for enlarging the welfare state
Let them eat derivatives......
Too many people give NO thought to having kids today. There's little downside to having kids you really can't afford with all the aid available. Now you can argue that there needs to be a 'safety net' of sorts but we do seem to have far exceeded that.
We waited over a decade to have kids - and were college educated making decent money. In contrast we have relatives who had kids right off, got divorced and pretty much guaranteed themselves poverty. A niece who barely got through HS got married and divorced within 18 months - though pregnant (without knowing it for 6 months) when divorced. She pawns the kid off on relatives at any opportunity - I pity the kid. She will NEVER get beyond minimum wage jobs and seems destined for a series of similarly employed 'boyfriends'.
I've been doing genealology research on my family and it's quite informative. Even WITHOUT reliable birth control you had SMALL families during the Great Depression. Many people NEVER married - you had a 'bachelor' son or 'old maid' daughter taking care of Mom and Dad until they died. If they then got married - late in life - odds are they didn't have ANY kids. Pretty common actually. Lots of older Aunts and Uncles with no kids of their own. People did NOT get married as early as you might think. Men got 'established' before marrying in their mid to late 20's. Well off families - thoe showing serious assets on census forms had more children (and servants) while the working class ones tended to have smaller families. Boys were working in their late teens - if not earlier. You lived with your parents until you married - sometimes after. You MIGHT go to live as a 'boarder' if you were working elsewhere - or were apprenticed out. That's a term you NEVER hear today. If parents died, kids went to relatives. Out of wedlock children were very much a scandal - I clearly remember stories of one case in the 1930's. If you chose 'badly' odds are you lasted it out and tolerated the situation. Divorce was a rarity. One great grand aunt married a real SOB during the 'Roaring 20's ' to get out of a strict house. She wanted to go back home after her first kid but her parents refused. He drank too much, screwed around and hit her. She made excuses for the situation for the rest of her life ('He like me because I fight back....' WTF?) Now you shouldn't have to stay in an abusive relationship but hell.... too many people make BAD choices and bail out - with everyone else footing the bill..... one of my wife's sisters married badly - and now seems to forget the years living on welfare, still never taking responsibility for her bad choices in life. On the other hand you have people getting divorced because they're not 'fulfilled' - they wanted a 'soulmate' and got a real world relationship. Hell - in the past you often married for very pragmatic reasons (her father owned the farm next to yours and he didn't have any sons), married someone with a similar background (from a very few choices in smaller towns) or married someone because your first wife died and you needed a mother for you children. One guy in the 1800's had 3 wives - clearly the first 2 died with children in the house - the last wife was obviously the servant 'girl' who was likely thrilled with the 'move up.'
We've gotten to a point where there's little personal responsibility or accountability for the choices you make in life. Your family tolerates your screw ups because they no longer have to bear the cost. In times past you might get disowned if you really pissed off your parents.... hell - in one case the eldest son was disinherited for NOT marrying a Baptist.... Hell.....today you can have a half dozen illegitimate kids and nobody cares.
One thing I learned early talking to other men. No man is surprised to learn some bimbo's asshole turned out to be a real asshole. Women on the other hand seem to be shocked when this happens.
What about the 15th fact?
A middle class beautiful, educated, hard-working American woman gets almost no aid when she brings up babies. A poor, lazy, obese, unmarried foreign woman gets the largest amount of aid.
This goes against the nature. A charming, clever, kind woman marries the best man and makes children. A kid of a lazy and poor woman dies.
Saw many foreign woman on medicaid and welfare. Disgusting how corrupted the system has become.
Goverment stats and UNICEF - not credible sources.
Completely agree.
If people are "living in poverty", should they be breeding, ie imposing that poverty on their offspring ?
Why isn't that cruelty to children ?
Thats the most ignorant out of a whole lot of ignorant posts here this evening. Now suppose you got your way and lined up all those with under $50,000 a year incomes and shoved em off a cliff or filled a big boat or 3 and sent them to china? DO you think you're done with poverty? LOL, fuck no, those with $100,000 and under jobs would be the new lower class. And the top $10% would pick the middle classes bones to death and feed those lower class, same as always, as thats their support base. Always has worked like that and always will. I'd encourage everyone to follow the fucking money. I dont see any of oit ending up in bank accounts of the lower class of people. I do see all of it ending up in the accounts of the top class of people.
I should clarify that a bit. By class of people I am referring to economic class only. Its quite obvious some at the top have no class and some at the bottom have lots.
Lot's of emotional class garbage from you, obviously you are overflowing with bitterness and resentment resulting from your own poverty, for which you want to blame people who are more successful than you.
1. I never suggested "shoved em off a cliff or filled a big boat or 3 and sent them to china" - these are YOUR suggestions.
2. You never addressed the questions that I asked.
Look in the mirror and you will see the person responsible for your personal failure. Take your anger out on him/her.
Fuck you prick. Maybe you should look in the mirror yourself. What were your retartded questions as you call them? Namely that why should anyone in pverty be allowed to have children and second isnt that child abue for them to be born in to poverty? Well let me tell you asshole, you must have been born with a siilver spoon up your asshole righht? There's just no other explanation for such sheer stupidity.
Your response is proof you are a mental defective, blinded by your envy and resentment of the successful and blaming them for your personal inadequacy and failure in life.
I was born not only poor, but lost my parents when I was just 5 years old, raised myself living with a foster parent almost too old to take care of herself, got myself educated, was a successful entrepreneur and comfortably retired at 40.
What are your excuses you pathetic living monument to personal failure, bitter envy & resentment of those more capable and successful than you?
You envy and resentment of the successful, your blaming them for your failure, and your excuses for your own failure are the foundations of entitlement ideology. National policy should be to hunt down all of your kind and expel you all.
Compassion. Got any?
Sad.
Sick fucks turn innocent children into commodities of socioeconomic judgement in the comment section. Junior IB desk jockey fucks.
The scum bags running government and banks should be lined up and run over with a paving machine. Anyone who supports them should join them. They must all be sociopathic idiots who cannot see past their next capital gains.
My question is that when they have all of the wealth and power what do they do then? Where do you go with human mysery every where you turn. What do you do when just outside your estate's gates there are starving kids laying in the streets. How do you live with yourself?
My next question is How do you live at all when they FINALLY figure out who stole their lives from them and their children?
It is my hope that there is a heaven and a hell because then those fuckers will be smelling sulphur at the end of their greedy pathetic lives. That may be the only punishment they ever see.
I pull down the window-shades of the Bentley.
Poverty is so depressing and ugly and I won't stand for it.
Re your first question....when I went to Pakistan I was floored by the poverty and squalor and the obscene wealth that existed side by side. An ex-pat who lived there told me his initial reaction was the same but 'after a while you get used to it and eventually don't even see it'.
We need to feed the children who are alive but I don't see why we can't force birth control on the adults who receive welfare.
lol, yup - that's what the Repub team is looking to do
FORCE CONTROLLED BIRTHS, the latest label being "Human Life Amendments."
but never believe it's only for "welfare" peoples - in their eyes, all the useless eaters are "welfare'd".
put them on a school lunch program
Hell, they'd starve for sure on Moochelle 0's skool lunchs!
That said, welcome to 0baMao's Amerika-and we were invaded over the summer by tens of thousands of kids from south of the border. This part of his marxist Utopia.
From widows and orphans
to whores and bastards.
Blame the Unions.
Years ago, those children and their spawning prone mothers would be gainfully employed in the mines somewhere.
Not today, thanks to union rules.
A bit cruel but the problem is that women are incentivized to have lots of children that they cannot support by themselves. The system works against those who marry and have only the number of kids the can afford. They end up paying for the birthing units who keep popping out little turdlers every year.
NORAD will save them..

We need people to have children, but unfortunately the sort of people that are reproducing the most are not the ones that benefit society.
It seems that the greatest population growth is from the dependent sector, and they ain't producing many engineers, scientists and people that create value and improve our nation.
"... may we all have great compassion for these victims of our incredibly foolish economic mistakes."
How about, when the SHTF and the rage of a demeaned, abused, economically terrorized people finally bursts forth, "may we all recognize and embrace it as our own."
That Mexican-American mother has had to go through Hell proving to endless petty beaurocrats that she's poor enough to get food for her babies, not to mention having to eat all kinds of shit to hold on to poverty-wage jobs, when she could get them. When our nice pretty educated middle-class mothers' anger boils over because she needs help and there is no help, fingers will point at that Chicana mother and say "her fault!" But is not Betsy's pain, is not her outrage, ultimately the same pain, the same outrage as Rosalita's? As our own?
Did we not all dream the same American Dream?
As the system implodes, our test will be not which of us will have compassion with the poor and their children; it will be which of us will stand together with them against the billionaires, oligarchs and kleptocrats and their high-class goons, toadies and tricksters.
Free contraception, socialized medicine, wealth transfer payments to sluggards, lower standards for coloreds, open borders, crony corporatism, green energy, and ecology first will solve these problems.
