One is about industrial PRODUCTION, the other is about industrial ACTIVITY.  No activity, but plenty of production.

See, it all makes sense.  They got this, guys.  Believe me, they got this.

Somebody up there has encountered a contradiction. We obviously need a Minitruth to control the dissemination of information, especially that which is contradictory.

It's possible that the rest of the country is doing great while NY has the worst in 2 years.  Though we have been brought up to believe that the NY Fed region is representative of the whole country (i.e. strongly correlated).  In that case, this is at least a very unexpected result and therefore it's newsworthy to show the 2 (seemingly) contradictory headlines juxtaposed.

Exactly. They have sustituted 'manufacturing' for 'distribution'. Massively increased margins. Labor is now 'other' on the 'cost of goods' pie chart.  Good work if you can get it, or until the sheep run out of money.

LOL, the US doesn't need real manufacturing.

The only manufacturing the US Federal Reserve wants is debt manufacturing. Print 10s of trillions more in debt.

Everyone can go on disability and welfare and the Fed can print trillions more.

Modify the Zimbabwe 100 trillion dollar note and put Ben Bernanke on the front with Janet Yellen on the back.

Also put "In Bill Dudley we Trust" instead of "In God We Trust".

Last quarter America's GDP came in at a strong 3.5% but the fact that a 10% jump in federal spending, mostly on Pentagon hardware bolstered growth and was very much behind the numbers.

This "pre-election" spending was the biggest increase in federal spending since 2009 when the Obama administration put in place a huge economic stimulus package.

When you mix in an upbeat November number concerning job creation, falling oil prices and ever higher stock market prices and new record highs and many people have the impression we are on a roll.

The American and world economy is in uncharted water and weird crosscurrents are clouding our economic future. The truth is if this market is as over extended and distorted as many people think a crash may occur at any time. The article below delves into some of the many crosscurrents at work that could bring the economy to an abrupt halt.
