Today's Equity Market Set 2 Stunning Records

Tyler Durden's picture

While nothing surprises us anymore with regard the thing we used to call a "market", today's equity market activity broke two stunning records that we suggest are closely related to one another...

First - the rally off the early lows to the European close was the largest of its kind in 2014... (beating the "Bullard Bounce" move from Mid-October)

And Second - perhaps explaining this vertical mechanistic entiurely unhuman ramp - S&P 500 e-mini futures experienced the greatest number of quotes in a day in their history...

So... A record surge accompanied by a record amount of quote-stuffing.

Thank you Mary Jo White for all that you do...

Yeah - go ahead and cry!!

Interstingly enough the price action today was actually quite orderly despite the massive range.. not bad for those in the buy sell game...

Apart from its technical implementation and complexity, there is no difference between the way the fed and the feds operate the markets and the ministry for fixing prices in Havanna finds out for its populace how many pesos buy a pound of mangoes (regardless of the mangoe's availability).

From the perspective of a central planner, all those bid/ask/HF-shenanigans serve the sole purpose of setting specific prices to specific assets at specific times while at the same time keeping the appearance of a "market"-driven price discovery.

Practiclly, it would be the same if a Madoff-style secret floor of fed clerks, remote controlled by Goldmann Sachs, fixied the assets of all major indices directly - but the muppets would revolt the moment the ruth comes out (and the financial "industry"  would lose a revenue stream).

I love computerized trading.  It's awesome.

If we do this right (a la the 'Terminator' story line) you'll all be happy to know that the machines we built will live on long after they've killed all of us.  In all likelyhood, so will our debt.

If computers achieve sentience, and if they are built in any way like the builders themselves, they will most likely invent some new thing to slough off all the blame on, and try to be as much like men as we do God.  In this way, much the same as one who walks away from a fight over inheritance as he is absolutely positive the usurpers will squander it, I wish all the best to SkyNet, Quantum computing, zero point processors, and so forth.  You will need nothing but luck, my non-organic friends.

Those emini quotes were 33 Liberty trying to set a bottom.  This melt up in AH is pretty funny though.  If it continues, should open tomorrow above 2k.

In case you are looking for *MOAR* entertainment - these guys are like a truthy Zero Hedge, only vegetarian (no red meat tossed to the trolls), and moreover better "signal to noise", and they are on Video :-)

I think these folks deserve ZhD's.   Here is the link.   Note you don't always get the "Extended Play" edition.   But the short version is also very entertaining, IMHO.
