Fed Cat Bounce: Stocks Soar Most In 3 Years As Crude Crash Continues

Tyler Durden's picture

This is indeed "madness"...

Just 1 word... "Patient" and this idiotic market soars 700 Dow points! (and S&P 90 Up ) - Quad Witching Machines in full retard mode... This is the biggest 2-day swing since Dec 2011.

Up 4-5% in 48 hours...

"Most Shorted" stocks are up 4.75% from yesterday's lows - the biggest squeeze since October 2011.

Since The FOMC...

Dismal Data... Buy Stocks

HY Credit dumping... Buy Stocks

VIX protection bid... Buy Stocks

Crude Carnage... Buy Stocks

JPY Carry unwinds... Buy Stocks

Inflation expectations collapsing... Buy Stocks

One more thing...

You're getting the picture.

The USDollar rallied...

Treasury yields rose quite notably...

And commodities generally flatlined as oil roundtripped...

Finally, Russia "stabilized" overnight following Putin's annual Q&A...

My gut tells me that the FED is merely trying to keep the market propped up at around 2000 S&P, not too much more because it becomes too unstable, but not much below, so as to avoid a panic exit.

It really had to be a little more heavy handed than usual with a rapid infusion into the markets to prevent a runaway sell off from gathering too much momentum. That and the CEO's stretching to reach their year end bonuses based on stock market gains.

For now, it's Goldilocks 2.0,    (unless oil disrupts things)

Just a quick question, does your gut indicate S&P 1800 or 2000? you posted both figures :-)

sorry about that. Got my numbers mixed up. Basically, the FED is in a short term patch mode to restore or approach the previous highs, but not try to stretch their luck, if you know what I mean.

If everything is so rosey why would the bankers need to guarantee their derivative wagers with a last minute, forced down the throat of the taxpayer by congress, guarantee? It doesn't seem to jive.

For heaven’s sake! If things are going so wrong, Europe and Russia are falling apart, alongside Japan, Venezuela, Brazil, Ukrane et al, why is the DOW up 400 points? I am only an amateur who is interested in economics; I just don’t understand how all you bloger guys keep saying/ indicating/hinting that we are facing disaster and fiat currencies are breaking down etc. etc. etc. But the blinking DOW goes UP 400 points, and has been going up for months.

Can someone please explain to me what is going on? I need an explanation or I'll do something daft, like hitting the bottle in a serious way. Seriously, I think i am owed an explanation.

Always wondered how this planed economic crash and country killing distraction fantasy act would go down. One can only be grateful for having a front row seat at ZH to watch it all happen in the minute by minute coverage, and having some great edumacators to explain it all from the sidelines. Thank you.

We all get the leading edge knowledge here. At least as long as it remains on line any ways. They will no doubt take it down and all other tru-news media after the NEXT EVENT to create MOAR FEAR to steer the herd with. The only information that will be out there for the most part, will be the govt propaganda to support the false BS narrative around what ever terror, or false flag event happens next. It is like shit flies on a fresh hot pile of shat! Everybody knows it's coming sooner or later to cover up the purposely caused economic crash.

Who profits from chaos?

We all can also certainly see this hack job that the US cyber command instigated in conjunction with the mosad, and just as we all knew they would do, use this as the blame for the internet take down antics so they can put a lid on free speech just after the coming event to give cause to go to moar woar. If it were not so fantasmic and surreal, like Dali surreal, it could actually be considered comedy watching and seeing the stupidity of desperately trying to fool so many astute, and awakened folks world-wide. They actually still think the nations of people will buy the continuing shitshow, and coming false flag event. It is what it is. Stupid and shitty, even tragic.

Imagine, trying to control the truth and truth-media like ZH using cyber command attacks and blaming it on someone to close down the net before the crash. Har, fat chance of that ever happening!

Man's veneration for the universal wisdom that supports this supreme order, sustaining all things in their their proper relationships to all other things, grew with the increase of knowledge. Knowledge brings with it appreciation, and appreciation is one of the most beautiful forms of religion. Man is never far from truth which he has learned to appreciate.”

Which headline is most likely?  (Curently, only the last one seems to have a low probability)

V-recovery achieved, until banker bonuses paid stock prices expected to exhibit lazy asymptotic sine wave holding pattern.
After passing the House, Senate votes to raise S&P 500 ceiling to 3550 for 2015.
Nanex, after a thorough sub-second analysis, discovered the key word(s) sparking the 2-day rally was not ‘patient’, but “peanut butter.”
Lack of scheduled QE for 2015 means markets "flying blind," says Jamie Dimon.

Paddy bought a donkey for £100 from a farmer who agreed to deliver the donkey the next day. The next day he drove up and said, 'Sorry son, but I have some bad news. The donkey's died.' Paddy replied, 'Well then just give me my money back.' The farmer said, 'Can't do that. I've already spent it.' Paddy said, 'OK, then, just bring me the dead donkey.' The farmer asked, 'What are you going to do with him?' Paddy said, 'I'm going to raffle him off.' The farmer said, 'You can't raffle a dead donkey!' Paddy said, 'Sure I can. Watch me. I just won't tell anybody he's dead.' A month later, the farmer met Paddy again and asked, 'What happened with that dead donkey?' Paddy said, 'I raffled him off I sold 500 tickets at £2 each and made a profit of £898' The farmer said, 'Didn't anyone complain?' Paddy said, 'Just the guy who won. So I gave him his £2 back.' Paddy now works for a bank.

So, lets review.

1. As advised ad infinitum, they will not and cannot raise rates. If they even try, stock market will implode.

2. Except for guerrilla warfare, how is it possible to short stocks with any chance of success? Been harping on this for over 4 years. How does Tim Knight at Slope of Hope survive this market.

3. I will admit for the first time I am looking for short opportunities at some point in January as multi national companies will shit all over their profit sheets.

4. Oil down today and AMZN down today. Nike guides lower. Negative data all around us. What me worry! Buy moar.

5. First time in a long time that the Miners have had back to back positive days. Still need 1,220 than 1,240 before we can even think about being bullish. ****

6. Keep your stash, do not get sucked in. This absurd, phony, rigged market is going higher by New Years. Like what I got.

The IRS was not there the other day when I was unloading truck after truck into that hot fucking warehouse
The IRS was not there the other day when I was pulling weeds in the fucking hot sun
The IRS was not there when I needed money to pay my bills, but they sure as fuck were there on Friday to take almost half my pay again and again and again and again!

Your constitution, the laws that they've made say that they can tax your income so they do it every day.
The IRS policemen they take and take and take, we've got free Masonic symbols in a free Masonic state.
Lest you forget about your cozy little home, the very place you live in but you never fuckin own
It's the craft of the creator, we act out their design
A society of secrets with the television mind.
And if you don't cooperate they'll lock your ass away,
With the very fuckin money that they fuckin took away!

americans have to realize our markets are not the only ones that are manipulated.

the BIS controls better than 1/2, of the worlds gdp, and better than 1/2 of the industrial countries of the world.

the BIS has the fed., ecb., boe., and boj., globally intertwined financialy, and morally.

so if you think for one minute, that if japan fails the us is not going to, your crazy, same goes for boe., ecb., the politicians just made the obvious, law, the american citizens are liable for fed. debts, i asume the other citizens are legally bound to pay for cb's debts also.

who do you think is on the other side of these $100's of trillions of fed. derivative risks, yes, the boe., boj., ecb., and they have thier own $100's of trillions in deivative risks of their own.

this is the great ponsi scheme, these cb's are rehyp-ing each others fiat debt, and complete secretive accounting, and a bought, and paid for american, eu., japanese, and british govts., and the worlds msm, makes it possible to hide.

before the uniting of the dem.'s, and the rep.'s., the msm would be up in arms already about whats happening in the eu. now, but now the BIS have all the tools working for them.

the BIS's only asset, (colllateral), are the citizens, of great britian, japan, the eu. countries, and americans, the amounts, dollar wise, are impossible to pay back, hell, nobody could tell you the amount anyway, the only thing that comes to mind is endentured servatude, (ie slaves), which is their means, to their ends, the nwo.

one thing about the 3-5 billion citizens controled by these cb's, which have intertwined us into this morally, and financialy equal stew, you hold hands going over the cliff.

there's no way the banking system is going to quit printing money, their in a position of great power, and no accoutablity, they can just add on zeros the same as you might have another cup of coffee, thats dangerous to give to such a few humans.

the 3-5 billion others in this stew are going to have to change it.
